Reveals the daily lives of Russian people during the rule of the Romanovs, including the celebrated serf actor Mikhail Shchepkin, Princess Catherine Dashkova, and others of the period
Pretty good I guess. It's nice to have a book with lots of art and pictures and timelines after reading so many history books on the subject, but there wasn't really anything I didn't know. Also it was more an accounting of royal events than "what life was like."
A good beginners read with some excellent rare facts sprinkled in. Catherine the Great's horse was named Brilliant? Tsar Nicholas II had his coronation collar fall off him in a bad omen? Now those are cool facts. The books formatting was clunky at times but overall it was a pleasant read.
This book gives great insight into what life was like in Imperial Russia. The information is well-researched and well-written, and it is a fascinating look into the lives of people that most of us have only heard of. This entire series is very well-done.
Not very well laid out and not very useful for what I was looking for (information on Elizabeth Petrovna and details of day-to-day life in Russia during the 18th century).
I quite agree with Bethel. This was a very enjoyable book, and while it doesn't provide in-depth information, it does give the reader a very colorful description of the time period.
