Some memories detonate on impact.

Fresh from the adrenaline rush of her latest case, FBI Special Agent Emma Last dropped a bombshell on her friend and coworker Mia Logan—she can communicate with ghosts. Worse, one spectral figure is Mia’s brother.

And he insists he was murdered.

But there's little time to grapple with the supernatural when the Violent Crimes team is thrust into the heart of Randall County, West Virginia where a local diner is reduced to rubble in a powerful explosion. Although the owner and his daughter live above the restaurant, no human remains are found in the rubble. Did they have the motive, or the skill, to make a bomb?

Or are they the victims of a more disturbing vendetta?

The stakes heighten when another local diner faces the same fate, its owner and his daughter also conspicuously missing. The pattern is undeniable. As a winter storm encroaches, Emma and her team are in a race against time to find the victims before a third explosion blows Randall County apart.

Last Chance, the fourth book in the captivating new FBI series by bestselling author Mary Stone, drives home a haunting reality: you don’t need enemies to become a target.

Last Chance

Last Chance was a really good book. I can’t imagine what caused Ruth to want to destroy diners where dads and daughters owned and operated them. I guess some people can be so damaged by the abuse of a parent that they really go insane. This book has a really scary ending.

Bomb it and watch it Burn

Special Agent Emma Last has finally told Mia Logan that she has seen Mia’s brother’s ghost. Emma lets Mia know that Ned’s ghost has told her his death was not a car accident. Emma was surprised that Mia believed her about seeing Ned’s ghost. What made Mia accept that Emma was seeing Ned’s ghost? Will Ned reveal what happened?

SSA Jacinda informs the team they will be heading to Eklund, West Virginia to investigate what appears to be the bombing of a diner. They are told that the daughter and father owners of the diner are missing. Emma along with Mia, Leo, Denae, Vance and Special Agent Sloan Grant will be searching for the person or persons responsible for the bombing. Special Agent Sloan Grant has the expertise with explosive devices needed on this case. Mia Logan is unhappy that Sloan is on the case because she blames Sloan for her brother’s death. Who bombed the diner? Where are the father and daughter? Are they dead? How does Mia handle working with Sloan?

Before the team is able to find the person responsible another diner is blown up. Again it appears the owner and his daughter are missing. Why are the diners being targeted? What happened to the owner and his daughter? Will they find the person responsible before another diner is blown up? Are the missing fathers and daughters alive or dead? Does Emma she any ghosts that will help with the case?

Emma is still dealing with the Other and also hears a wolf. Leo has been having dreams about a wolf. Leo also wants Emma to tell him what is going on and is pressuring her for answers. What happens to Emma? Will she tell Leo her secret?

Last Chance is well written and has plenty of drama, action, suspense, fear, twists and turns to keep you reading until the end.

LAST CHANCE is the fourth installment in Mary Stone's the Emma Last FBI Mystery Series. Like everything from Mary Stone, each investigation and each character are unique and the story a page turner  that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Once you start reading, make sure you have plenty of time to get lost in this FBI thriller. WARNING: If you don't like stories with ghosts or the supernatural, don't read this series. Do try any of the other thrillers by Mary Stone.

Winter had visions, Autumn reads emotions by touch and Emma, for the last ten years, has been seeing ghosts, even talking to some. She's trying to understand the why she sees them and what they want as they try to help and hinder with the murders in this story.

Emma is still dealing with the Other and also hearing a wolf howl. Leo has been having dreams about a wolf, too. He ends.up saves Emma from jumping off their B and B’s high deck in this current story.

Some one is kidnapping father/daughter owners of diners in small towns, then blowing up the diner. What happened to the owners? Have they been killed elsewhere or being held captive for some diabolic reason? Can our team solve this clueless case before another diner blows up?

I recommend this book and the entire Emma Last FBI series to those that enjoy thrillers.

I received an ARC of this book from the author and this is my honest review. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to more in this series.

This is a great ARC read. This is the 4th book in this series and you get more of the fear that Emma is feeling over her ability to see ghosts. After a stressful case the FBI unit Emma belongs to are called to another situation. It seems that a small restaurant in Randall County West Virginia has blown up and the owner and his daughter are missing. Due to a small Police force the unit is sent to help. This occurs just after Emma tells her friend and partner that Mia.s dead brother came to her and tole Emma that he was murdered.. Now, with this on both their minds, they have to focus on this new case. After doing an initial search of the bombed out restaurant, the team rest in the local B & B, only to be called out for another bombed restaurant in a local town. Can the two be connected? Where are the father and daughter owners of these restaurants? Are they alive or dead? Whose is doing this and can they find the person before another restaurant is bombed? Also, Emma wonders how many ghosts are she going to see this time? Will she also get more info on the wolf that haunts her dreams?

Ghost here, ghost there, ghost, ghost everywhere. Emma the team are busy trying to find out who is blowing up dinners and where the owners have disappeared to. As they descend into multiple small towns in a very rural area they encounter multiple bombings and possible kidnappings and are in a race against time to stop the next and find the missing people. During all of this, Emma has multiple encounters with various ghost, including Mia's deceased brother. Emma finally had told Mia she sees ghost, including her brother. Leo too, has been having some strange experiences and has been watching Emma closely. Will she be telling him next? A good solid and enjoyable story!

Poor Emma is really on shaky ground in this adventure. She still sees ghosts at the most unusual times. But, now she has a friend that knows about her special gift. But what is her connection to Leo and why is hearing the wolf howling? Why are Emma and Leo both hearing and dreaming about wolves. Emma is going to try to breach the vale to another dimension. Is it a huge mistake or is she going to finally contact her mother? This book is the best of this series. It's a thriller and it keeps you guessing. But the ending is a real breath taker! I really want the next book to come out quickly. It's a fast read and well worth the time.

Oh my, things are getting complicated now! Emma and the team are called to the desolate areas of West Virginia where someone is blowing up diners, and the owners are missing. Add to that the discussion Emma and Mia had in the last book, and Sloan being along on this case, in the same vehicle, things are getting really complicated.
This was an explosive book in more ways than one, and I loved it!
I quite like this ability that Emma has, although it's going to be trouble for her, I fear.
Great, great book!

I finish this book in one sitting. The thrill, tension and heartbreak filling my heart, while following a new fast paced crime filled story. Mary Stone created amazing character s that creep into your heart and never leave. How can I be sorry for the perpetrator , when it’s despicable crimes they leave behind? I was glad to see Emma to share her secret with Mia. Will the ghosts help ? The relief from solving crimes is so short, when Emma wants to follow to another realm. The cliff. Hanger end is really chilling. I can hardly wait for the next book (5). Thank you Mary. Lida

This series gets better with each book. The team is asked to aid in finding the cause of the local dad and daughter restaurant. Their restaurant has been blown sky high and there is no sign of them. With very few clues to go on their case is moving slowly. Meanwhile in a neighboring city there is another dad and daughter restaurant blown up, and again no sign of the owners. Mia and Sloan eventually find a way to get past their previous and with lots of help the team finally gains some insight to the person responsible. This story is good !

Who's Last Chance? FBI on the job again, someone is kidnapping and blowing up small town diners in the Appalachian's. SA Emma Last is again seeing ghosts. In the BnB all the agents are staying in the hostess tells them an old ghost story or is it folklore of the area.
Another SA Emma Last book in the series and it keeps you guessing and wondering. The Author Mary Stone has the right stuff to write spellbinding books. I enjoyed reading it and I know you will too. Follow the SA Emma Last Series and all of Mary Stones books.

Distinctive

Emma Last is certainly a unique FBI agent. Her unique and distinctive ability to see ghosts, is one of a kind. She needs to stay out of the Other. Anyway... the villain in "Last Chance" was a soul and mind broken by childhood abuse. What I perceive as the author's theme thread through the story. No justification for Ruthie's actions, though. The story kept me engaged to the end. 3 lives saved from the victims. And 4 more due to Sloan's last ditch effort.
Thank you, Mary for another distinctive, excellent Emma Last episode.

The bombings were intriguing but what captured my attention is seeing Mia interact with Sloan again, Leo confront Emma about wolf meaning and her actions, Emma’s quest to see her mom and time with Marigold. The team dynamic is fluid and was great to see as they battled a case in rural America and in a blizzard. The relationships were not as focal which I appreciated for this series as so much sways toward the paranormal and crimes. A solid read for the series, with an outstanding emotional scene for Sloan and Mia.

I can never decide which Mary Stone series I love the most. Right now it has to be Emma Last.
The author creates the best characters and the ones in Last Chance are phenomenal! Emma’s psychic abilities makes the series all the more enjoyable. This is a great thrilling read that had me terrified at the end. A genius plot that only Mary Stone can produce. The cliffhanger is very intriguing and has me waiting impatiently for the next in this series!

Emma and Mia have finally had a chance to talk about Mia's brother Ned but only barely. Now they are off on another case and Sloan--Ned's ex-girlfriend is with the group. Can Mia get past her hatred for her and work with her? Plus, it seems there is someone else in the group that is 'on to' Emma and her 'gift'. Will that cause an issue in solving the case they are on? I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.

Another exciting book in the Emma Last series. Emma tells Mia about her contact with her brothers ghost. If that isn’t enough of a chock, they are on another case involving a bombing & kidnapping. And who is helping with the investigation? Sloan, who she accuses of being the one who caused her brother’s death. Oh boy! Will Emma see more ghosts to help on this case? What a roller coaster ride. This book will not disappoint!

harrowing hint of an arsonist/bomber

In the dead of winter, a devastating explosion and fire in a small town overwhelms local law enforcement; a blizzard and the suspicion of either arson for insurance - or kidnapping - when the owners of the destroyed business are gone without a trace.

Personal drama ensues as Sloan - the woman who refused Ned’s proposal - is attached to their squad as the explosives expert.

The situation is incendiary on multiple fronts.

So, good I couldn’t put it down. I feel like there is more ‘talk’ about Leo and Emma (how things go together between them and if anything is going happen between the romantically) also Leo finally approaches Emma with what he has seen and heard and she didn’t answer any of his questions can’t wait to find out what and when she tells him. The end of the book Emma finally talks to her mom and what she says hooks you for the next book and has me excited and eager to read book five.

Hear The Wolf Howl!

Emma are you really ready for what is in your future? Wasn't what we just went through with the destruction, fires, unplaned deaths enough? What tragic child hoods we can bring into our adult life bring all sorts of twist and turns to us as adults. Add in the appearance of ghosts I am so looking forward to what if anything Emma's mothers ghost tells her on Wednesday If she shows up. So many Ifs. So ready to get reading!

Horrored results of Child Abuse

What pushes a person beyond the boundaries one has set for oneself? Constantly thinking you are worthless because a parent told you over and over, time and again. How does a person regain their self worth and overcome that upbringing?
On the flip side, why would a parent do this? You can tell Ruth is not a person filled with evil but unsure of how to find happiness and see the truth.

Really great book, just like all of your books, was hard to put down, trying to figure who the bad guy is, also can’t wait to see what happens when she finally lets Leo in on her ability, and if there is a connection there. Then her mother is another thing, WOW, so much going on Mia, Ned and Sloan, and then there’s Oren, not sure about him yet!

wow!

Another edge of your seat page turner! Emma, Mia, Leo and the rest of the team head to Virginia just as a blizzard hits! Someone blew up a restaurant and the father & daughter are missing, before they can get a good grip of what happened another restaurant is blown up & the father and daughter go missing, also!

Abused

This story was complex but interesting. What abuse can do to an individual is something that doesn't go away but stays with the person. Just seeing someone so happy can trigger the individual who was abused to do terrible things to justify why they do what they do to feel justified. Good reading

Last Chance

The team is in West Virginia. Two diner have been bombed and four people kidnapped. Emma is still spooked by ghosts and Leo is beginning to get feelings about things to come. They catch the very sick woman doing the damage but not before she shot one hostage in the leg and killed another. Great series.
