Recipe for magical mayhem: Equal parts shifter rage and vampire hate, Add a pinch of sweet witchy cluelessness Stir pot till it explodes…
When mysterious vampire hunters target Hazel’s friend, the trio must investigate the murder of Britt’s vampiric sire. A creepy professor who preyed on his students. Unsurprisingly, that sleazebag had more enemies than a donut has sprinkles. Soon, every supernatural in town’s on the suspect list.
Things go from bad to awful when a vampire kidnaps a young Green Witch. To rescue the missing girl, Hazel must work closely with hot---but bossy--Deputy Elliot James. And the more she gets to know Elliot, the more she wonders who he really is behind those dark, intense eyes.
With romance in the air and sparks flying, Hazel has to juggle her budding love life alongside a brewing supernatural showdown.
If you like new adult chick lit and a witch cozy mystery series with slow burn romance, escape to the charming, sea-swept village of Blue Moon Bay!
Author's Note: In addition to gorgeous new formatting, this book has received a second professional proofreading pass, thanks to friendly readers pointing out that the first pass may have missed a few spots. 😅
I live for magic. Modern magic, infused with heart and humor. Sometimes with an edge. Always with bright romantic sparks.
When I’m not spinning urban fantasy tales, you can find me flying after my 6-year-old witchling, cackling with my coven, or savoring a book while cuddled up with my cat familiar and, of course, coffee.
I enjoyed this book EVEN THOUGH it left me on THAT cliffhanger. I do think it was a little slower than the first book but as it is building up to the third book it had to have more beef to it so it makes sense. Still a cute, cozy book for this time of year!
Me ha gustado mucho más que el primero, posiblemente porque ya conocemos a los personajes y porque el misterio es mucho más complejo que en el primer libro. El final es abierto con click hunger :(
Genuinely hate the main character 😭😭 like home girl is suchhhh a hypocrite!! “Oh I like Kade but he’s a criminal” “oh I just found out Elliot is some rlly old bad guy/criminal but I still like him” BRO WHAT and let’s not even get into how she merely suggested she thought he was Hugin, never talked about it again, and then confronted him about it in the last chapter. NOT TO MENTION WE GOT LIKE TWO LINES OF INFO ON WHO HUGIN IS. This book has soooo many plot holes not to mention so many grammar mistakes. Like I understand a few mistakes here and there but this was bad. And the repetition of things as if they hadn’t happened earlier on the page😭😭makes me want to cry. I can’t give things one star unless it’s actually atrocious but I do like the story line of this series, I just wish who ever edited this gets fired bc they clearly did not read what was written.

I can’t believe I’m lowering my rating because the editing was so very poor it ruined my enjoyment of this book. Normally I can overlook editing errors, but there were so very many - and not just the garden variety spell check errors - that it was a slog to finish the book. So the book gets 4 stars and the editing gets 1 star.
I was so excited to continue this series. Hazel continues to come into her own and gain confidence in herself as a green witch. She once again teams up with her friends to solve a mystery that hits close to home. I really enjoyed all the different supernatural groups in this and seeing how they interacted. So many twists and turns, and I was not expecting where things ended up. But I am really looking forward to the next book and seeing where things go from here. Hazel and her friends are just so much fun, and I wish I could live in Blue Moon Bay.
Honestly I just really don't like the main character, she irritates me so much lmao. I will say, the twists in this book were marginally less predictable than the first book but I can't believe there's going to be a third - which I absolutely will read FYI
I found the main character a little unlikeable and some of the premise to be almost comedic. If it was intended to be funny then it wasn’t really that funny. If it was intended to be serious it kind of missed the mark. A shame because I had enjoyed the first book in the series
This is book two of the Blue Moon Bay Witches series and main character Green Witch Hazel Greenwood is being kept busy with trying to keep her family legacy, Sage’s Bakery going, as all its customers seem to be getting taken away by the Java Kitty shop. Add to that is all the animosity between shifters and vampires, she only just found out about the existence of, and now threats from vampire hunters. The vampire hunters are claiming the death of an old vampire, the very one who turned her now friend Britt, drawing her in during her first year at college in his class. How dangerous these vampire hunters could be is unclear and it seems a group of shifters, who call themselves the Carnivora, and are a gang of troublemakers who Max’s brother Kade narrowly managed to avoid being pulled into during his troublesome teenage years. The trio of green witch Hazel, dual shifter Max (Maxine) and vampire Britt, now have a dangerous investigation into the death of Britt’s vampire sire, who it seems has been a bit naughty and has been turning young college students without any authorisation! On top of that, the bakery and her gran’s declining magical health, Hazel has been informed she needs to mentor a young green witch, Yolanda, at the latest Green Witch Association breakfast at Purrfect Pancakes. Jacinta is the head of the organisation and has put Hazel’s name down to be her own daughter, Yolanda’s mentor, which Hazel isn’t too happy about!
As well as college, Yolanda works shifts at her mother’s restaurant, along with her best friend Amethyst, who somehow refuses to be mentored by one of the older green witches and asks if the new beige witch in town could be her mentor. Not that they do the same sort of magic or even spells, but Jacinta is too distracted to really refuse the change. Hazel pops round to see Yolanda after work, to break it to her that she can’t mentor her and sees her dealing with a very annoyed customer. Shortly afterwards, the young witch is kidnapped by a vampire and the trio have to try and find her before anything happens to her. Only problem is that Deputy Elliot isn’t very happy with them interfering, especially after having to rescue them during their last case! Hazel ends up having to take in Britt to protect her against the vampire hunters, who have been threatening Hazel for siding with vampires! Money starts getting thrown around by Drew Kensington, from one of the wealthiest and oldest families in town, first to offer to pay the ransom, but then to also match shifters with their vampire enemies to protect them against the hunters, by giving the shifters money to do so. Word of him flashing cash makes the kidnappers raise the ransom exponentially and raises concern about how they know about this. Hazel gets to work closely with Elliot and is finding out more about his secret life and who he really is, as she hopes to begin a real romance with the person she crushed on at high school. The kidnapping case soon takes a complete curveball, as the remnants of yet another vampire are found and a still hidden group of vampire hunters take the credit, as the young witch is found safe and sound, but the ransom money somehow managed to disappear. Add in a young love story with two very different kinds of shifters, with a connection to the head of the Carnivora gang, and it makes clear the hate still perpetuates. A good twist with the vampire hunters and the kidnapping, plus a revelation Hazel makes about Elliot at the end. Another magical mystery to solve and a trio getting closer despite their differences. I received an ARC copy of this book form BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
After Britt receives an undeath threat, she moves in with Hazel for safety. Along with Max, they intend to expose the vampire hunters. First step is to determine who killed Britt’s sire, a local film professor who preyed on his students. When members of a shifter gang rob Sage’s bakery, the women wonder if the gang is related to the vampire threats. Meanwhile, the head of the Green Witch association assigns mentors to all of the younger witches. Hazel, being unsure of her own abilities, turns down her assignment. Then her prospective mentee is kidnapped by a vampire and Hazel’s guilt urges her to investigate. Tensions are running high with the old war between shifters and vampires, and prejudice is mounting. Drew thinks he can solve the problem by paying shifters to guard young vampires, but it only makes the situation more volatile. When the ransom money disappears and the vampire hunters rescue the witch, Hazel finds evidence that makes her believe things aren’t as they seem. As things come to a head, grandma Sage’s life hangs in the balance.
The unlikely friendship between Hazel, a witch; Max, her former best friend and shifter; and Britt, their former bully and vampire; is the core of this series. These young women continue to bond as they sort through the difficulties in their respective supernatural communities. With well thought out world building, a nicely paced plot, and an interesting mystery, Ms. Cross brings the reader into the world of Blue Moon Bay. I will definitely be returning for book 3.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
4.5 stars due to the terrible editing job. Luckily it wasn’t throughout the ENTIRE book, and I could still tell what was going on.
This is the second book of the Blue Moon Bay Witches series and I love cozy mysteries from reading the first book. I finished that first book right before October started so everything was still fresh in my mind. The ending of this book left the story open to a third book which is what I’m hoping for. I’m invested in all the characters and the plot line now!
I enjoy Hazel’s witty humor and how even 2 books in, I’m questioning the character of well the characters! Not everyone is who they seem to be and I like that air of truthness to these characters. Many of the characters have also grown since the first book and that’s something I enjoy when I read a series.
Hazel can also be very relatable to a certain group of people (me) and I think that’s also why I like these books so much. While still having that escapism I yearn for when I read a book 💜
I’ll be looking forward to that third book, hopefully it’s also on Kindle Unlimited, as I read the first one for free during “stuff your kindle day.”
If you want to read a cozy mystery full of spooky season delight, these are some of the books to read. They are not too heavy and could even be a palette cleanser!
Following the first book of the Blue Moon Bay Witches, Fangs and Frenemies, I wasted no time in reading the second book of the series. The story continues where we left off in the first book and is another adventure for Hazel, Max and Britt. Only this time, Britt is being targeted by vampire hunters 🧛🏻️🔪. The story follows Hazel and the gang while they investigate 🔎 the town’s suspects and try to figure out who is behind the kidnapping of a young green witch. 🪄
What I ❤️ about the book: 👉 The story is written in a super fun way and I did not want to stop reading. It was a light mix of supernatural and comedy with a hint of will they won’t they romance.
👉 The fact that Hazel is way more confident in this book and we saw her grow as a witch and coming into her own.
👉 It was interesting to learn a little more about the other characters in the book and the fact that there’s a possibility of a third book.
What I 🥵 about the book: 👉 There wasn’t a lot of Max in this book and I missed her quirkiness in the story.
👉 The typos and errors were a little annoying while reading.
All in all its a very relaxed read and I loved being immersed into the town of Blue Moon Bay. Can’t wait to read the 3rd book which I’m hoping is coming out soon! 🤞🏻
Listen, i loved this book. I loved it. Is it perfect? No. Still love it. The small town vibes, the whole solving a mistery while also flirting a bit and haging out with friend. Girl, I'd be stressed pero glad them mc could.
The only issue for me is we are shown certain things in the story that are never mentioned again. Literalmente pichaera despues. Like when Kade got iffy about scruffy mentioning how he could get into buildings without a soul noticing, that seemed to lead into the mistery of the money pero pichaera I guess. Same with Granny Sage, somebody using grey magic to weaken her, could be the old coffee shop but then its mentioned Jacinta been dabling in grey magic... quizas soy yo. Idk its weird.
Also, I know there was the whole Elliot and Kade thing. But girl fucked up her date with kade. Its not just that they wouldnt work its that she straight up fucked up the date. Also Kade flirting with her was so hot for me. I hope in the next book they end in better terms that just her ignoring him. And Elliot well... we'll see.
Title: Scones and Slayers (BOOK #2) Author: Sierra Cross
Amazing book all the way around!
I LOVE Hazel and who she is developing into! Her friends are a great pair for her lol
The twists and turns in this book was WILD! I kept thinking I knew who did what and why, but boy was I WRONG! Everytime I thought I had it figured out I was thrown another curve ball. The ending had me crying cause let's be real it's GRAN! We love Gran around here lol.
Hazel is a wonderful Green Witch. And I love how she tries to be inclusive of every supernatural. Her friend Max the Shifter and Britt the Vampire are an AMAZING addition to Hazel! I love how they all seem to grow and develop in these books.
If you love a good mystery I recommend this series! I love the paranormal aspect and who could forget Elliot the Deputy!
Once again, a quick and enjoyable read! I think that I might be heading into a cozy paranormal mystery era.
This series is seriously so cute and fun to read!
Hazel, is now trying to solve the mystery of her friend Britt’s vampiric sire’s murder. Along with trying to solve this murder, Hazel is put into the crosshairs of a shifter gang, and a budding romance with Elliot, the hot Deputy. What could go wrong?
This book was so fun, I love a cozy mystery fantasy book. I love that we still revisited our favorite characters from the last book I was definitely not expecting Elliot to have a different side of him. But I also don’t like how harsh of a guy he is towards Hazel. I am just as much confused on whether or not he likes her or not and the fact that Kade show interest I was really really hoping something would come out of that. I feel like I want Hazel to have her happy ending but it doesn’t seem like she will be getting one anytime soon, the one thing I did appreciate is her getting stronger with her magic in this book and the fact that now she has to show other witches how to be witches, while she still struggles with her own powers, I’m excited to see where that ends up going. Max I feel like I’m very indifferent with her character but I’m definitely liking Britt but other than that the book was fun, it was a nice little mystery. I love the little twist and turns, it was such a cozy little read very enjoyable, and would definitely recommend.

I think the characters lost their pizazz a little. Max had a loud personality in the first book, and not so much this one. Britt is a hard character to connect to, and it’s hard to believe she’s soft enough to fall for a shifter. The underlying plot was good. I enjoyed the vampire aspect of the story, which is leading me into other books with more vampires. The slow burn romance is too slow even for me, but maybe that’s because I’ve evolved as a romance reader recently, so I won’t dock her for that, there’s a great love triangle opportunity that wasn’t played very heavy on and that I will dock her for.
I mean I’ll probably wrap back around to the 3rd one, but I have so many witchy reads waiting, it won’t be a priority
This is an entertaining paranormal cozy mystery series. A fun cast of characters and an entertaining storyline. Hazel is a kitchen witch. Or green witch. She owns a bakery with her grandmother who is semi retired teaching her the way of a witch. Hazel has recently picked up a couple of young witches that she’s going to mentor. Her friend Britt is a vampire her friend Max is a shifter and there is someone evil out there trying to attack vampires. Hazel and her friends are going to try and see if they can stop them before someone gets hurt. A lot of action and direction in this particular story. Twist and turns in lots of mystery. Check it out
This is the second book in a series. These are fun, easy reads and I like the story and the characters. I definitely will be reading the next book. However, once in a while things don’t quite make sense. Also, I read these books through the kindle app, so I can’t speak for the physical books, but they desperately need editing. This book was less than 300 pages and had so many small errors, and the prior book did also. I enjoyed reading the book, but after a while it really takes some enjoyment out of it. I’m looking forward to seeing what Hazel and her friends get up to next.
The 2nd book in Blue Moon Bay Witches was just as adorable as the first! I will say this one seemed a little more disjointed at times, but overall still a fantastic read! I was not expecting the cliffhanger at the end but thankfully I had the 3rd book all ready to go. I absolutely love the characters, there is some character development and explanation but ultimately this is a cozy read that doesn't dive too deep into world building. I love a slow burn romance so I'm devouring these waiting for it, but every scene has me kicking me feet and giggling.
Also Sierra Cross is 2/2 on me not figuring out who the culprit is. I'm fighting a losing battle but I absolutely love it.
Fun very light read. I enjoyed book two much better than book one. The characters are adorable. I love Hazel and her cozy witchiness! My biggest complaint is the editing. There are a lot of words with the wrong tense or extra words in a sentence. Personally, my brain just fixes that and moves on, but i do know other readers that this would pull them completely out of the story, and then the wouldn't be able to focus on meat of it. Even still, I liked this and plan to read the prequel to the series AND book 3 when it releases!
The second installment in the Blue Moon Bay Witches series was just as cute as the first! The story picks up where Fangs and Frenemies left off - with a trio of unlikely friends joining their paranormal forces to solve the town mystery. Paranormal prejudice, adventurous storylines, and a little flirting create a cozy paranormal mystery with a beautiful message about doing your part to break down stereotypes, become an ally, and embrace differences.
Can't wait to see what comes next, when Fruitcake & Familiars releases in March!
Hazel, Britt, and Max team up together again, an unlikely trio of friends, to stop yet another impending threat on Blue Moon Bay. The sassy characters, twisting plot, and budding romances make this the perfect little read for when I’m trying to unwind, and I absolutely adore it.
I’m impatiently waiting for book 3 to come out so I can DEVOUR it immediately, because I need to know what happens! I love a good series, but ohhhh the cliffhangers…it sucks to have to wait, but I know it’ll be worth it!
Book number two in the Blue Moon Bay Witches series picks up right where Fangs and Frenemies left off and doesn't waste any time diving into the story, which I greatly appreciated. There was so much world building in book one that I felt a little overwhelmed at times, but now that I have it all down, book two was such a fun adventure and mystery to solve. Lots of depth to the plot and interesting new characters made this a super fun read for me!
In this second book, we find Hazel and her two other crime fighting friends working on another case! Only this time it involves a kidnapping and vampire hunters on top of it...or are they connected? I gave one less star for this book only because there were a few mishaps with sentence structure and a little issue in continuity. Nothing to make me stop reading and I look forward to thr 3rd book when it releases soon.
It’s a good book, overall! An easy read with a cute storyline. There are parts that have you chuckle out loud. The characters are simple, maybe the next books will go more in depth about their character. For now, the women in the book are gorgeous and the men are hot and the main character is also hot, but in a everyone-tells-her-and-she-doesn’t-believe-them type of way. If you’re looking for a quick, easy, overall enjoyable read, I think you’ll like this!
Editing errors aside (there were many & sometimes had me thinking I'm drunk), I really enjoyed it. It's still a great combination of cozy, crime and supernatural mystery, and we get to know the characters a bit better, while the slowburn romance really has me hooked.
The ending came a bit abrupt and unexpected, but definitely has me longing for book 3!
