Invasion of Sorority Z: A Sci-Fi Alien Love Story

Rate this book
Stevie Living through the end of the world is boring—and I’ve been living through it for months. A zombie apocalypse has taken over Earth. Studying for finals? No longer the most stressful thing I have to endure. I have to survive, and with the help of my sorority sisters, we’ve been managing. Threats loom closer to our secluded house, and just when I think all luck has run out. They show up. Marrec I did not imagine coming to this strange and dying planet would lead me to Stee-vee. The tiny hu-nim declares me as her friend shortly after my arrival, and I do not protest. There is much about her that calls to me, and I do not wish to leave her side. As hours pass, and days end, I know for certain: I will not return home without her. This is a post-apocalyptic, sci-fi romance with an alien love interest.

okay first let's imagine;;;;

you're living with your sorority girls and finishing your degree📚 everything sounds good right? wrong ❌ there's a virus that turns people into zombies as you call it with your friends 🧟 but don't worry while everyone and their mothers were dying you girls survive in your cute sorority house for months 👑 but one night you wake up and zombies are close to your house 😲 don't worry though right this moment zombie eater aliens come to save you 😏 but wait there's more, one of them is your soulmate😱

so the story wasn't bad but everything was happening a bit too conveniently for her 😂
✔️the zombie virus killed her parents? oh well they weren't close anyway
✔️after meeting a random alien he offers her his bed? let's sleep together!
✔️the same alien is her soulmate? let's go to his planet!
✔️she can breathe and eat on an alien planet? obviously!
✔️he builds her dream library? yes let's ship books from earth!

and can we talk about the way she just starts living on the new planet? like where's the government? why is no one asking questions about her? 🙄

also sarah(one of the sorority girls) was such a queen 💅🏼 i love a high maintenance girl 💅🏼 she said oh you're my mate? then get me out of this garbage planet 👑

🚨 no third act, no owd(there's literally no one around), no omd(someone hit on her but he just 🔪🔪). virgin hero, vibrating dick?, breeding

i liked the story and definitely recommend reading because it was mostly fun but also i got bored because nothing really happened. i'll continue reading this series because characters were fun and i want to see what will happen to the other girls👀

Invasion of Sorority Z started off well for me. I knew going in that it was light and easy (thank you to buket and Callie for their awesome reviews!). I was hoping to just turn my brain off and enjoy a marshmallowy alien hero falling for a human woman. Unfortunately, I needed some kind of external tension or action to maintain my interest when the romance became too sugary and simple. I'm a low angst lover and this was still too low stakes for me. While there are features present that were fun and entertaining, overall I was left wishing for more. Written in first person, dual POV. No ow/om drama, H was a virgin and h was not.

This is a post-apoc romance where zombies roam the Earth, but we never see a zombie on page. I actually get really freaked out by zombies in books/movies and I was disappointed there wasn't a single scene with even a hint of a zombie! Stevie (h) has conveniently and luckily survived the zombies, along with a handful of her sorority sisters, when aliens pop up unexpectedly. The aliens travel around looking for undead to hunt/eat. While the aliens' background with their planet being invaded and the low female to male ratio were interesting, I wasn’t as emotionally invested. I also had questions about the ages of the aliens and what they had accomplished (one was mentioned as being ten when he became involved in fighting…).

Marrec (H) is instantly protective of and curious about Stevie after a bit of a debacle of a first meeting (because strange aliens would frighten just about anybody initially). Their quick friendship and attraction was adorable and I liked their chemistry. I esp appreciated that their interest was present from the start and before it became clear that they were fated mates. Then we're pretty much beaten over the head with all the cuteness and ease of their love and moving Stevie from Earth to Marrec's home planet. The steamy scenes were a mix of hot and falling somewhat flat for me because of some of the language choices not being my personal preference. Marrec does bring some size difference, will it fit, energy though and then he’s got some additional anatomical differences depending on whether he’s in breeding mode or not.

So much could have been done with the move to Marrec’s planet, but there's only one scene that was interesting to me once they got to there and that was because Marrec got to be uber possessive and protective and kick another alien's ass. Then we were back to the programming with all the cute overload but nothing else happening. No fish out of water scenes, adjustment to a different government, very little adjustment at all frankly because all of Stevie’s path was fairly smooth. Except for a sensory processing sensitivity she had, which was an excellent representation to include. I have a child with sensory processing disorder and I thank the author for making the choice to represent people who process their environment differently.

This book does contain breeding so FYI and the ending includes a baby, which made for a cute HEA, to follow the overall theme of the book. It’s blatantly hinted at that the other sorority sisters should be finding love with the other aliens (there’s at least one other mated pair by the end and one pair that’s clearly going to be meant for each other). While I found a couple of the side characters lovable with intriguing personalities, I’m not sure I’m curious enough about their potential romances to continue.

Overall: 3.5 rounded to ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Readability: 📖📖📖📖 (This started really strong for me but my interest waned about halfway through)
Feels: 🦋🦋🦋
Emotional Depth: 💔💔💔
Sexual Tension: ⚡⚡⚡
Romance: 💞💞💞💞
Sensuality: 💋💋💋 (I wanted just a bit more emotional aspect when compared with the details)
Sex Scene Length: 🍑🍑🍑 (a lot of these felt lighter/short – the beginning ones were the longest I think)
Steam Scale (Number of Sex Scenes): 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥+
Humor: Yes
Perspective: First person perspective from both hero and heroine
Cliffhanger: No, this ends with a happily ever after
Epilogue: Yes, several months later (plus a bonus scene that takes place 2 weeks before the epilogue)
When mains are first on page together: Pretty soon in (chapter 2)
Format: voluntarily read an advanced reader copy from the author in e-book form
(Descriptions found at end of my review)

Should I read in order?
I think this is the first in the series? Some other relationships are started in this one so might be best in order for this series.

Basic plot:
Stevie is trying to survive the zombie apocalypse with her sorority sisters when aliens arrive. Luckily, Marrec and his companions seem to be on their side.

Give this a try if you want:
- post apocalyptic Earth and alien setting
- human heroine/alien hero pairing
- sorority involved heroine
- huge hero/tiny heroine – this hero is at least 2 feet taller than our heroine
- protective hero
- hero nurses hero back to health (light)
- aliens bring higher technology
- fated mates
- virgin hero
- lower angst
- hero cooks for the heroine
- mid to higher steam – there’s a number of scenes but some were short or on the lighter side

Ages:
- heroine is 22, hero is 28 in Earth years

First line:
An apocalypse did this to me.

My thoughts:
I adore the inclusion of playlists with books! I love that Mann included this in the beginning of the novel.

I really loved the first half or so of this novel. I thought it was a more unique spin on scifi romance – kind of a post apocalyptic Earth where a virus has created zombies and the last thing you’d expect is an alien spaceship arriving ready to eat them all and help you out. And as absurd as that sounds I just loved that idea! I thought the beginning was quite funny and I was very curious about getting to know the aliens and see what would happen.

Right around the fated mate reveal though (which I thought was rather anticlimactic? It seemed like a really big deal for the secondary couple, then how it happened after with our mains just felt like ‘oh, us too? Cool’ – and how when they had spent more time together??) I started to lose a bit of steam for this read. Part of it is probably it’s a bit lower angst – which is really great for a lot of readers, but I tend to eat it up. Without the angst I needed something else to really pull on me. Things were happening but a lot of it was pretty smooth sailing through the book. The second half kind of felt like a nice, peaceful extended epilogue to me. This could totally be my mood too though.

The sex started off great to me but seemed to get quite a bit lighter as we went on. I appreciated the bonus scene though, very much ;)

Given to me as an ARC and my first one at that! What a delightful first arc it was!

Everything in this book goes at great speed. The timeline from meeting to everything else, I'm pretty sure was like a week? I think that's the only thing that bothered me (that and we don't really learn much about the whole aliens showing up for the zombies thing). The rest of the book had me smiling, had me laughing and of course the smut had me 💦

My fave part about this book other than the laughter I got out of it - is that our MMC is a genuinely soft-hearted guy dedicated to treating the FMC like a queen.

I'm looking forward to book two! I just know Rem is going to be HYSTERICAL.

This was darling! Honestly never thought I'd describe a post-apocalyptic romance between a "surviving-not-thriving" sorority girl and a zombie-eating alien as such, but it's true!

The apocalypse is here: humans are getting turned to zombies and somehow these six girls have survived just because their college administration relocated their sorority to an isolated home in the middle of the woods. Talk about silver lining.

Stevie and her sisters are doing their best to survive and one day aliens pop up and tell the girls they're there because zombies are a delicacy where they're from but they'll gladly stick around and protect the girls.

And then it turns out the aliens are compatible with humans and fated mates start getting reveals and you know where this is going.

The characters were delightful, the angst is low, and the MMC is so stinking sweet. I thought the author did a great job addressing any concerns a reader may have with sci-fi stories like this (ie: how can the humans and aliens communicate? why do the guys talk like that? why are there no zombies after the aliens are introduced? etc). I also enjoyed that Stevie had 0 reservations with leaving Earth for an alien planet. Homegirl really embraced the idea of being mated to an alien and the lack of hesitations was neat!

Did I mention the MMC can vibrate his dick in order to impregnate the FMC?

I do wish we spent more time experiencing the apocalypse properly, not like I want to read a horror story, but we only got a brief look at surviving 101 before the story shifted when the aliens arrived. I think that would've driven up the stakes a bit and made it much more compelling for her to leave the planet and what not.

Overall, this was a low stakes and angst, sweet sci-fi romance! There's a great balance of characters, story, and smut and I'm really excited to read about the other guys' romances!

Rating: 3.5 rounded up to 4 stars

I am very grateful that I was able to receive an ARC for this book.

This book was not only beautifully written, but it sucks you in immediately. It has such a unique storyline that leaves you eager to turn the page, ready for more.

Marrec is the blueprint. He is such a doting and loving mate to his Stevie. The things he does for her will have you swooning right alongside her.

Stevie’s sensory issues are something I can relate to and I’m happy she never let them stop her. She fell for him quickly and so did I.

Overall, this book was wonderful. I would have finished it sooner if I didn’t have class or work. I cannot wait to read about the rest of the sorority and the Aprixians!

I thought this plot was SO COOL. Like hello?? Hot aliens come to earth after a zombie apocalypse 👀👀. And these aliens EAT the zombies 😳. Literally killing two birds with one stone. Not only that, but this race of aliens TREASURE females and see them as a blessing?? Yes, please.

So we have FMC, Stevie, who has survived eight months into the zombie apocalypse with her sorority sisters. She acts as their in house gardener and has used their amazing SMARTS to create a filtration system and other amazing things?? Not only that but she’s overcoming her sensory sensitivities to help garden 🥲.

Then we have MMC, Marrec, an alien who comes from a planet called Aprix. His fellow aliens have come to Earth to feast on the undead. His kind has very advanced technology that allows them to implant a chip into their necks in which they can upload any language into the chips and can easily understand and speak the languages. He has a metal arm that can transform into a sword and he can communicate through. Like that’s SO FREAKING cool. And I love how they all talk. Especially when they try to repeat human words and phrases 🤭.

And when and where can I have a Marrec? Like how is this male so sweet😭😭. He treasures Stevie from DAY ONE. From quite literally the second he lays eyes on her. He wants to protect, care, and always stay with her. Seriously, love him. And he quite literally almost kills a man for touching and speaking to Stevie without her permission 👀👀. LOVE.

I’m also REALLY excited for the rest of the books. I can’t wait for Anna and Drak’s book. They are SO funny. I already love them. Also for Rem and Sarah’s book. I mean he’s a cat dad🥹, and he’s so fun. And just the sneak peek we have of his book, I LOVED. Like I’m in love with his thoughts🤣.

Favorite quotes/scenes:

“I bet there are parts of you soft enough to cut off.” (Anna)
“I should like to see you try. You may touch all of my parts in your search, mean one.” (Drak)

Sixty seconds later, there’s another gunshot.
“Brooke?!” (Cayte)
“I’m fine! Anna shot Drak again!”
“This hu-nim is very fond of me.” (Drak)
Another shot rings out.

“You’re not uncomfortable with him, are you?” (Stevie)
“With Rem? The cropped-top-wearing cat dad who asked Megan to paint his nails and who jumps off of the roof to see if he can dent the ground with his fall? No, I’m not uncomfortable with the sunshiney space frat bro.”(Sarah(

“What about you? What are you looking for in a mate?” (Stevie)
You, I long to say. Stee-vee is what I wish.

“This is the greatest day of all days. My soul seed has lightened for Stee-vee. She is mine. My hu-nim female. My mate.”

“I will be a patient male for my Stee-vee. I will show her that I desire more than her delectable body. Her mind and her soul must be mine as well. I must have all of her.”

“Of course I am not leaving you behind. I would sooner stay on this abandoned, dying planet than return to Aprix without my little blossom.”

“Hu-nims are not honorable opponents. Kicking a male where he loves himself most, have you no morality?” (Drak🤣)

“An-nana does not wish to be near me on this day. She tells me she is on her month-lee. I do not know what this is, but she tells me it means she does not like the sight of my face.” (Drak)
“Oh, Drak, I’m sorry, that’s not very nice at all.” (Stevie)
“I am unhurt by this. It only means that she likes the sight of my face on all other days.” (Drak)
Oh brother.

“I am going to try like I’ve never tried anything before to make sure this man—my man—is cherished beyond measure. I’m not sure that I’ve ever been motivated to do anything more.” (Stevie)

“I will crumble into a million unmendable pieces if she ever decides that I am not what she desires for her heart. An unfathomable amount of ache would wreck my body and break my mind, and still my soul would shine to her. I would never let her go.” (Marrec)

“You’re crazy.”
“Crazy for my mate. Mad with affection for her. Insane with devotion to her. Out of my mind with passion toward her. It is a welcomed lunacy, I assure you, little blossom.”

“If any others think to even gaze upon your books without your permission, I will pull their eyes from their heads and gift them to you.”
“That’s a bit extreme, Marrec.”
“I shall allow one warning first then.”

“I was already eternally thankful for your love, but now I am even more in awe of you. You are the heart of my soul, little blossom.”
“I love you so much.”
“All my love belongs to you and our children.”
“Already thinking about baby number two?”
“I am always thinking of your stomach round with my child.”
“Greedy.”
“For you? Always.”

If you want a sugary sweet alien romance, this could be for you!

I will take an alien obsessed mate trope any day. Sometimes (a lot) they can be instalove and lack substance. This one was instalove too for sure, but Marrec likes Stevie before he knows they’re mates and really appreciates many parts of her personality. That might sound obvious but sometimes in instalove I wonder why they like each other apart from instant attraction and with this I actually felt like they fit well together. Similarly, Stevie likes Marrec and wants to make sure he feels loved for who he is rather than his battle wins, etc.

I do feel like, however, this devolves quickly into just cheesiness and lack of problems. There’s really nothing that happens in this book? 😂 I don’t even think we saw a zombie and that was the first premise!

Still. The side characters are cute. I liked how Stevie is friends with his crew and it’s not just 100% them two and their romance, but then you barley see them again after they leave Earth. (I think maybe because they’ll have their own books later on.)

To me, I think perhaps more action should’ve taken place on Earth and then they go to his planet at the end. I don’t think the stakes for anything were very high and Stevie wasn’t even sad to be leaving her friends? So overall, I think it could’ve used a little more angst or plot, but if you just need a sweet read, it’s good for that!

Extra points for me because he’s never been with anyone else! I’ve read too many playboys these days and that was refreshing!

If you like cozy alien romance this is for you.
Picture your barely surviving the zombie apocalypse when some very hot aliens pop by and tell you they are now here to protect you. What is a girl to do? Well luckily for us these ladies accept their help in more ways than one.

I would also want a alien to save me, cherish me and give me air conditioning.

You haven’t read an alien story like this, I can guarantee it. So if you want cozy, fast paced, adorable alien romance this is the one for you.

WOW if you are big into alien spicy romance books this book was AMAZING! I recently became super into Ice Planet Barbarians but Invasion of Sorority Z was SOOOOO much better. I loved the progression of Stevie and Marrec's relationship. KL Mann was so good at describing her post-apocalyptic world I could picture every little detail.... even when Marrec took Stevie out to get some"luxury" things shes been wanting but couldn't get due to the zombies. The amount of sweetness to spice to comedy ratio was PERFECTION . I can not wait to read the next couple.

I love K.L Mann's writing and when I found out that she was going to be writing an alien romance book I was IMMEDIATELY sold! Marrec is so freaking adorable and I seriously couldn't get enough of him. The way he immediately just cares for his Stee-Vee and will do anything for her is just 🤌🏽. And because he’s an alien he only understands certain English words so seeing try to pronounce and understand the words was cracking me up 😂. What he calls Stevie’s underwear will forever have me bust out laughing 😂.

The spicy scenes were 🥵. Now, Aprixian males are virginias so therefore Marrec is one but you would never know with the way he was getting down 😏. There’s this one scene where he protects Stevie on his planet and it was HOT 🫠. I love me a protective alien.

I can’t wait for the next books to come along and see what Stevie’s friends get up to with the other Aprixians. Specifically Drak and Anna.

Invasion of Sorority Z is low on mental commitment and high on feel good vibes, which, I don’t know about you but I need sometimes. This was all about slowing down for me, taking a breather and letting myself get immersed in the warmth these characters and their story had to offer. Book one and follows Marrec who is a retired warrior and Stevie, the sorority gardener who also struggles with some sensory issues. The girls of the sorority each have such relatable personalities and quirks, like I’m seriously in love with Anna’s snarky little attitude! The cast of characters are so fun and if you’re looking to see how a group of Sorority girls survive the apocalypse with the help of some hunky aliens, you’ve found your next book!

P.S. Did I mention there’s also fated mates who have special 🍆 that are warming and vibrate? 👁️👄👁️

🛸Virgin MMC
🛸Big soft protective boi
🛸Sweet and Spicy
🛸Friends to lovers

🛸“I understand,” he tells me, seemingly sincere. “HELLO HU-NIMS!” Drak shouts, cupping his hands over his mouth. Not sincere, then.
“WE COME IN PEEZ.”

🛸 ‘Sheesh. This guy needs a serious cuddle. Twenty-eight-years old and never experienced affection… I’ll have to tell the girls that we’re rocked up with a bunch of virgins. Megan is going to give them all heart attacks.’

🛸 ‘She twirls her fingers in her lap.
“What about you? What are you looking for in a mate?”

You, I long to say.’

🛸 ‘She is mine, this creature.
Stee-vee is Marrec’s. As much as Marrec is Stee-vee’s.’

Marrec & Stevie were such a fun couple to read. I loved how Marrec was immediately simping for Stevie when he met her and just fell harder and harder from there. He genuinely wanted to be her friend before developing a relationship and once they got together…total fireworks. I mean, vibrating peen and simping alien - what more could you ask for?

I loved Stevie and how real she felt. She struggled with some of her sensory sensitivity but still pushed through and was helping to provide for herself and her sorority sisters.

I was laughing left and right while reading this. You truly will love the side characters just as much as the main characters. *cough* *cough* Drak & Anna *cough* I loved how the sisters all came together during the apocalypse and made shit happen, I know my sisters and I wouldn’t have been able to do that 💀

I was lucky enough to assist with Beta reading this book and it meant the world to me for K.L to implement some of the changes I suggested 🥹

This book was amazing. The banter, the alien’s not knowing certain words causing miscommunication, the humor, the SPICE, the sweet moments. All of it was just perfect. I loved every moment of this book and I can’t wait to read the rest of the couples’ stories!

Thank you, K.L for the ARC and letting me Beta read your book baby!

This book randomly popped up on my feed and I just had to read it. I’m always in the mood for weird books even if I very often end up hating them.
Honestly, this could have been fun if the characters had had more depth or were actually likable. I didn’t care at all about Stevie, the other girls or any of the aliens. The writing wasn’t great and there were a lot of moments that made me cringe. Mostly smut scenes, unsurprisingly. I only like the fated mates trope if it’s done right. This insta-love thing is not really for me, especially not in such a setting.

“It is a blinding thing to recognize the severity in which my soul calls to hers. She is my every thought, and I would rather come to my end than live another moment any other way.”

If you need a serious dose of dopamine, read this book. It gave me IPB feels but with a completely different plot. The aliens are lovable hunks and the humans are all unique and badass in their own way. Marrec and Stevie were sweetly spicy and their adoration for each other melted me. Can’t wait to see what other couples KL will give us in this series!

Probably more like a 3.5/5 for me, but I always round up for my fellow indie homies.

I loved the premise of this one, and it was really sweet and cozy with some genuinely funny moments! But I think a bit more could have been done with it. I would have liked to see the premise utilized more, and for the protagonists to have been given a little more depth and consistency. There's nothing wrong with this book by any means, and I would definitely keep reading the series to see where it goes! But every now and again I come across something like this that is good, but could have been amazing with some little tweaks here and there and I get frustrated with it. But that's really a me issue, honestly

Invasion of Sorority Z de K.L Mann

Argumento:

Stevie

Cozy alien boyfriends during the zombie apocalypse? Say less.

4/5⭐️
3/5🌶️

When the tropes and synopsis for this book dropped I was already sold.

There's no mention of zombies or ~eating~ on page... I'm hoping for some zombie slaying when we get to Anna's book (pls?)

Stevie is a sweet and determined FMC. She struggles with some sensory issues, but was able to over come some to provide for her sisters as they navigated the start of the apocalypse. I found the description of her physical reactions to be well done and I could feel the ICKs in my own body while reading.

NOW, Marrec... oh my space daddy, he is such a loving goof... and the DIRTY TALK HELLO. I loved his instant desire to help Stevie and the girls and his deep sense of doing good. I love an MMC who is quietly understanding of their FMC and deeply supportive.

Was this a little insta-love, sure. But when a soul seed shines you just know bb!

Overall it gave me some sprinkles of IPB without the freezing climate. The soul connections and need to take care of their mate was quite similar and lemme tell ya I'm here for it.

This was totally character driven which gave it a very cozy, comforting feel. Very low stress conflicts which was fun.

If you want some sweet alien men who live to love and protect their girls read this book!

I received this as an ARC from the author (thank you, love) for an honest review. And honestly, the aliens need to come down here already cuz earth (URTH) men could NEVER.

The Invasion of Sorority Z was a fun, cosy, super adorable romance!

Stevie is one of the few survivors of the zombie apocalypse. living with 5 of her sorority sisters in an isolated house, she's just trying to survive. Marrec is an alien who ends up on earth hunting zombies which happened to be a delicacy to his people. When he meets Stevie, he's instantly interested in the fragile, hu-nim that faints upon seeing him.

The zombies are only background info in this book, which was good for me since I'm a wimp when it comes to horror. The real focus was on the development of the relationship between Marrec and Stevie, and I really enjoyed their fated mates, friends to lovers relationship. At its core this book is the cosiest of cosy romances and I enjoyed every page of it!

I absolutely love the 'I must care for my fragile human mate but also I know nothing about humans so I will freak out at every perceived danger' thing this book had going. I ate it up and will still come back for more. Marrec's caring for Stevie is one of my favourite parts of the book. I am weak for a himbo, cinnamon roll alien! And if his parts have special features, that's just some extra spicy fun!

If you're in the mood for a low-stakes, low-angst, adorable af romance, this book is absolutely for you

I look directly into her lovely eyes. “There is not a soul more special or genius than yours, little blossom.”

The Good:
- I can not wait for Drak and Ana's book!
- All of the characters feel complete
- The coupling happens quickly so def not a slow burn
- I enjoyed the sexy scenes
- I love that there is barely any communication issues
- Very funny

The Bad:
- Men suck, and this book makes sure that we know it. It felt like overkill to explain over and over how bad the men are, but I also kind of get it. The setting is very clearly not great living conditions so I don't like how much time we spent hammering in how dire everything was and the threat of rape from human men looming over us so often.
- The concept may be better than the actual book, BUT I am trusting that we get there and I did really enjoy this.

The Ugly:
- There wasn't much of an issue to address or get through so the plot didn't ever thicken
- We spent too much time getting Stevie used to the new planet and I think the book could have used some more plot/climax on earth with the girls and this could have made the book more interesting

Wow. I soo like it!

I am so happy, I felt like I found a gem in a desert lol

I love all the characters! I am so intrigued with the upcoming stories in this series especially about the twin and their respective mates!

I love both H and h. they were so cuteee together. The sorority feels made me feel like I am watching a teen flix netflix series with aliens-end of the world in the mix but make it r-19. I am so curious about the world building too, like it is so interesting but we only got to have a sneak peek of, more than half on the book, also the characters left on earth, there's some romance building on there! I hope the author continues this series.
