Awesome conclusion to this series. Zach was in the last book as first a rebellious troublemaker 12 year old, and even then was likable before he changed for the good. In this book, he is now a 24 year old just having adopted troublemaking twins, a boy and girl. The other books had a lot of suspense in them, whereas this was not suspense.....but was my favorite of the series.
{Merry CHRISTmas everyone! Every Monday, Wednesday & Friday in honor of our Savior’s birth there’ll be a new Christmas book review! With a couple giveaways sprinkled in, it’s going to be so much fun! Let’s start!}

I was shocked to learn that this book was right up my alley! I knew that I knew this author…after researching on Goodreads I found out she’s the author of “Firewall”, a modern suspense book that I wasn’t a fan of. Needless to say, I was a bit worried about “A Texas Legacy Christmas”! Which I really didn’t need to do! It was really cute and pretty clean! I laughed many times at the twins & their antics! Now here’s a fun surprise! I’m giving away a copy of “A Texas Legacy Christmas”!
*(And just in case you’re one of those who always tries to read series in order (which is fine! I’m one of those! ;) ) this is the cleanest one out of the series. So, just stick to reading this one, forgo the others in the series. Trust me. This author would be where you read our disclaimer at the end of every review. ;) We like this book, but not the other ones we’ve read by her.)
SUMMARY: Zack Kahler heads back to Texas with homeless eight-year-old twin pickpockets named Charlie and Curly in tow. But soon Zack finds his hands full as he tries to run a newspaper, recover from a lost love, and keep his unruly charges out of trouble. Boardinghouse worker and life-long outcast Chloe Weaver has had her fair share of hurt and rejection. When Zack, Charlie, and Curly show up on her doorstep, more than one wounded heart is stirred with love. Can the love of Christmas present a miracle to heal these Texan hearts?
REVIEW: This is a sweet, warmhearted historical fiction read. The twins, Curly and Charlie, stole my heart from beginning to end. Zack is such a caring, faith-filled man who takes the twins in and jumps right in to fatherhood. Chloe has had a rough life and wonders if finally things will go right for her. A dedicated, hard working young woman, she is trying to build her faith and do the right things. I love that Zack was surrounded by such a loving, supportive family. I think this was what made him the type of man he was. Good storyline with delightful touches of humor (no surprise with 6 year old twins involved). This is #4 in the Texas Legacy series but is a good stand alone. I look forward to going back and reading the first three.
FAVORITE QUOTES: "Living our faith is never easy but always so worth it to please our God."
"Worrying about what might happen meant she didn't trust God to take care of her."
"Making God happy is not always easy.....Remember, He loves us when we do bad things, too."
A Texas Legacy series is a series of four books, of which this Christmas tome is the last. I read this without reading the previous three books and did not have any problems following the storyline. I could see that there was some history hinted at, but the missing parts did not in any way detract from the book. In addition, this author is well known and has written about 50 books altogether. Her usual genre is Christian suspense filled with tension and terse relationships. While A Texas Legacy Christmas was not built on that foundation, it certainly contains great well-rounded characters the reader can relate to. It is also a historical fiction like the other books in this series. But it is still capable of standing alone.
Unlike many of the other Christmas stories I have been reviewing, this is not a short story or an in-between story. It is a full length novel and completely developed from beginning to end. It contains not one, but two sweet romances. The two main characters were once childhood friends, attending the same one room schoolhouse, living in the same community, Kahlerville. Zack Kahler's family is vast and the town was named for them because they were the founders. Growing up, Zack developed a passion for the newspaper business. After a stint as reporter for the New York Times, he returned to his home town and purchased the local newspaper. He had great dreams of what he was going to do with this icon in his hometown. Before he moves back, Zack has a run-in with a set of twins living on the streets. To make a long story short, he ends up adopting them and bringing them back while he established himself in business. It was a stretch, but he felt this was what God was leading him to do.
Chloe Weaver had a difficult time as a child. Her mother, part Native American, died when she was very young. Her father took to the bottle in his grief and never recovered. His neglect of his daughter caused her to be teased by other children in school, while she never had clean clothes and enough to eat. Her embarrassment was complete when she received charity from others in town in the form of blankets, clothing and such. One boy in particular stood out. Zack Kahler would share a sandwich with her on the sly. Without his help she would often go without food. She is now grown and keeping the account books and serving customers at the village's only boardinghouse. When she hears that Zack has returned to town with two children in tow, her heart beats faster; she still loves him, but has he changed since adulthood? Was he married? Where was his wife?
Zack could stay with his parents, who would love to have their grandchildren around more, but he chooses to stay at the boardinghouse with Curly and Charlie. There they all become better acquainted with Chloe whose presence helps he adjust to having children to care for. As he searches for a home for himself and the twins, his relationship with Chloe seems to pick up right where they had left off, upon graduation from school. Their romance is sweet but slightly complicated by Zack's new business, the twins and a rival for Chloe's affections and time.
While the storyline does not have many twists or turns, and is a bit predictable, it is a lovely romance with a few complicated elements that delay our expectations a bit. I loved the historical elements, the emerging of modern inventions like the automobile and towns moving from settlement to growing, vibrant communities. The author's writing is smooth and connected and gives us the full experience of community and its growing pangs. I highly recommend this book for those who love historical romance as a genre, and this author in particular.
I stumbled upon this title during one of Christian Book's massive clearance sales back in 2008. My mom ended up purchasing it for me for Christmas that year when I asked for it, and ever since it's become one of my all time favorite Christmas books. However, I didn't realize until this year that I've never actually reviewed it for my blog before. I absolutely adore this heartwarming, holiday tale, and I knew I needed to go ahead and do so after this reread.
I actually ended up reading this one before any of the other titles in the Texas Legacy series. A couple of years later I went ahead and read the others, but didn't end up enjoying them nearly as much as this one. It's a wonderful read about a young man who's recently returned from working in New York to run his hometown newspaper, who has come home with two unexpected surprises. After a chance encounter with two pickpockets on the street, Zack Kahler finds himself adopting twin siblings. Returning back to his hometown with them in tow, he finds another surprise at the boarding house where they're booked to stay. Chloe Weaver has dealt with many tragic circumstances throughout her life, but she's finally found a reputable job working at the town's boarding house. When the man she never thought she'd see again shows up as a guest at the boarding house with two kids in tow, she's determined to guard her heart. Only this Christmas, God has other plans, and what follows is a lovely heartwarming tale full of faith, family, frustrations, and new romance.
I can't possibly recommend this beautiful story enough, and it remains one of my all time favorites despite the many, many times I've reread it over the years. The plot is quick moving and engaging, the romance is sweet and swoon worthy, the characters are all well developed and draw you right in, and most importantly, the faith element is at the front and center. Many Biblical messages are included throughout, like forgiveness and redemption, and I'd highly recommend picking this one up if you enjoy Christian historical romances.
Final Rating: 5/5.
I'm sure this will be far from my last time rereading this wonderful holiday tale.
I got this set of books from my church library when it was being cleaned out and read them somewhat close together. It follows the stories of the Andrews and Kahler family in Texas; the first 3 books are about the Andrews siblings. This Christmas one takes place a few years later and focuses more on the son of one of the siblings. Zach Kahler is now grown, comes back to his hometown of Kahlerville to run a newspaper. After an encounter with a couple of orphan street children in New York he arrives home with some new charges in tow and a newspaper to run. Kind of a nice follow up and ending to these books.
I have to preface this by saying that this book doesn’t align with my interests so THAT is why it wasn’t my cup of tea. Not because the writing was poor or because it was offensive in any way. The writing was absolutely fine and I found her style enjoyable.
I actually really really liked this. Usually I don't say that about books that seen to be solely about romance, but the whole struggle with Curly and Charlie seemed to be the best part
A TEXAS LEGACY CHRISTMAS is the final book in the Texas Legacy Series. Zack Kahler is now grown and living in New York but looking forward to moving back to Kahlerville and running the town newspaper. Before he leaves New York he has a chance encounter with a set of 6 year-old, pick-pocketing twins. When he learns the twins are orphans he decides to make a donation to the orphanage before he leaves town. In a twist of fate and a matter of 24 hours he finds himself adopting the twins, Curly and his sister Charley. Wondering what he's gotten himself into, he tries to figure out how to balance fatherhood and running a newspaper. Checking in at the boardinghouse, Zack is surprised to see Chloe Weaver working the front desk, an outcast in school because of her mixed parentage, Zack had befriended her, bringing her a sandwich each day so that she didn't have to go without lunch.
Chloe has led a difficult life. Losing her mother at an early age, she lived with her abusive father until he died in the house fire that took her home. When she lands a job at the boardinghouse, she is thankful to have a place to stay, and an income. Though Mr. Barton, the boardinghouse owner vows to win her heart, she knows it is not his to win. Her feelings for Zack, her childhood hero are nothing short of love, but she brushes them aside as foolishness.
Chloe helps Zack with the twins and the adjustment that comes with having kids. Not wanting to complicate his life further, Zack tries to ignore his growing feelings for Chloe, but it is no use. The kids love her and so does he.
I enjoyed A TEXAS LEGACY CHRISTMAS. It was fun to catch up with past characters like Morgan and Casey, Jenny and Grant, and Bonnie and Travis. Though the end was predictable, I still enjoyed the easy pace and enjoyable story DiAnn Mills knitted together.
"A Texas Legacy Christmas" by Diann Mills was a wonderful Christian Christmas story and the fourth in this series that will keep you turning the pages until the end. We find Zack Kahler is returning to his hometown of Kahlerville, Texas to work at his local newspaper. However, he never knew that from a slip on ice would land him with two six year old twins. As the story goes Zack wallet is stolen and this is where this story really takes off. All I will say is that you will have to pick up "A Texas Legacy Christmas" to see how this author brings it out to the readers. It was a charming and exciting read. There will be some twist and turns with a bit of mystery only that helps bring the wonderful read of interest to the reader. I found all of the characters very appealing especially the hero and the heroine of this story and all in all a wonderful Christian story of family and love. We find this single man adopting twins...moving back to his hometown, meets a school friend Chloe...only leaving you to say wow that was some read. Again, you must pick this novel to see how everything will turn out because there may be a surprise at the end.
If you are looking for a good Christian romance you have come to the right place for "A Texas Legacy Christmas" will give it all to you and more. Would I recommend? YES!
So many themes that I could discuss. Forgiving those who've done you harm: both the twins and Chloe have to forgive the school bully for things he did and said to them. They also learn his family history which makes them more understanding of the things he did.
Abandonment: Chloe experienced it as a child and later realizes that her childhood experience is what allows her to bond with the twins Zack adopts as well as what gives her compassion for others who don't have others to help them.
Love: Zack's family shows love to many both within and outside their family. Zack's father (stepfather really) helped him get back on the right track when he was younger. They attempt to do the same with Eli Scott. The twins are accepted into the family even though they were unexpected. Parental love between the twins and Zack.
Romantic love springs between Annabelle Scott and Simeon and between Zack and Chloe.
All good themes.
I guessed many of the plot twists before they were revealed. I guessed the identity of the "thief" and wondered why no one else in town considered that it might be who it was. I guessed that another love interest might show up for Jacob Barton to relieve the love triangle that the author created.
A sweet Christmas romance. Nice to see Zach Kahler all grown-up and navigating fatherhood with those precious & hilarious twins he's adopted, and pursuing romance with childhood friend Chloe Weaver.
Sexual harassment occurred long before that term existed. In this story, Chloe must deal with sexual harassment from her boss who wants to marry her. Add her school teacher, Miss Scott, who is the teacher you wished you had. Then there is Simon who is a great cook but probably more important--a wise man.
Zack [from book 1 of this series] who loves the Lord & find he can love a set of twins. Zack & Chloe have known each other since childhood. Even then he was helping her. Add Zack's loving family (you'll learn what happens to the couple in series book 2]. So enjoy by DiAnn Mills -- check ou this series. ~ 4.5 stars.
Good story so far of a man who meets up with two urchins on the streets of NY and they try to steal his wallet, he soon makes many changes in his life and theirs. A single man adopts two urchins that he believes to be boys only to find that one is a girl. He takes them to his hometown and his whole family fall in love with the angelic couple. Life really becomes interesting when Zack meets an old friend from schooldays and they find that they have a lot in comon and tho both have decided to live single they fall more in love as each day goes by. I really liked this story and you will too....
a great story line to finish the series.... story continues with Zack and his exploration in finding his way and making decisions on his career n relationships in the city and returning where he has love and support of family n community to make his life count. Listening and being obedient to God's voice and learning God walks with you in the hard time as you learn forgiveness and explore your emotional buttons that you need to hand over to God to work in you. We are all adopted into God's kingdom no one is greater or lesser according to Father God he wants a willing heart...Thank you DiAnn for this series
This book covered a number of topics: unwanted children, racism, parental abuse as well as the love of family, friends, a spouse, and God. It was a nice book to read at this hectic time of year. Plot: Zack Kahler leaves New York with 6 year old twins he has unthinkingly agreed to adopt. Chloe Weaver has always been an outcast who is now succeeding in her work at the boarding house. Now Zack has returned to his hometown--he like her; she likes him. Can they get together??
This one takes a slow pace throughout the book towards the inevitable. No big surprises here. Other than the slow-paced romance, there is a side-theme regarding the plight of orphans of that era and of child abuse and neglect. Although it was a slow walk in the park, the trip was enjoyable.
