Strange things have always happened to Nia, and until now she’s written them off as flukes. At nineteen she has seen her fair share of odd occurrences and just feels lucky.

Nia finds herself unexpectedly drawn to a stranger and begins dreaming of people who seem to know everything about her.

They offer little in the way of information as to how and why. It all feels too real but Nia is unsure, at least until she wakes up with a trinket from the encounter.

When dreams and reality collide Nia will have to face dangers she never knew existed. Ready or not she will have to discover her True Fate.

strange things had always happened to Nia. however, she and her best friend Rhea had always written them off as flukes. on her eighteen birthday, she spoke of a prophecy, scaring Rhea to tears. now nineteen, she met with a stranger that she felt attracted to from the very moment they laid eyes on each other. Aaron felt the same way towards Nia, like they were fated to be together. knowing each other on the first day felt like they knew each other for the lifetime. they were both approached by Lilith, a girl who claimed that they weren't entirely human. with the danger upon their tail, they need every help they can get to survive.

i received a free e-book from the author in exchanged for a review. the book started out promising, especially the part that introduced the dreamscape they were in, communicating in their dreams was a refreshing idea. while i personally believed in the existence of soul mates, it was quite a pain to see them repetitively throwing themselves at each other or knowing how their body tingled with each others' touch. having matching marks to proof that they were fated was truly an overkill. fortunately, the moment Nia showed her power, it made the waiting worthwhile. unique, Nia had the ability to manipulate and gain strength from all four elements, which made her rare and precious to her people. seeing how perfect her life and her boyfriend was, it was actually believing to have Nia going through the savior mode to balance it out. i enjoyed the action part of the book more than its romance, which was a little too heavily dosed for my taste.

My Initial Reaction…
True Fate has the potential to be a really fun YA fantasy series and I hope that it will continue to grow with the next book.

The Characters…
I almost fell in love with these characters, but not quite. I think my problem was that there were too many of them competing for my attention – although this is most definitely Nia’s story, the other characters’ stories and romances really dominated and confused the plot at times. Case in point, as I was writing that last sentence I kept thinking of character names – Avery, Aaron, Eric, Savannah, and couldn’t remember Nia’s name! I had to go to the book description to remind myself. Of course, that could also just be because her name was one of the must unusual…

Anyway – my point is, I got a bit frustrated with all the side romances that kept blooming. Nia meets this guy Aaron and as it turns out (really early in the book, so this isn’t spoiling anything for you) they have a fated attraction to each other. For these mystical beings (part of the mystery is what they are, so I can’t tell you) soul mates is a literal thing. At first it was kind of cool, but two things really detracted from it for me – (1) that Aaron loved Nia or Nia loved Aaron was said way too often. (2) people seemed to be getting bonded to each other left and right. There was one couple that actually didn’t get bonded and I was waiting for it to happen. It took away the novelty of Nia and Aaron’s bond, not to mention distracted from their relationship. It was like romantic whiplash, everyone was falling in love with everyone!

I also just realized that this is my character section and I haven’t really said much about the characters. But this is the problem – they weren’t deep enough to really talk about. They were a bit too defined by their relationships for me. Nia clearly has a lot of growing to do over the course of the series, because as it stands right now, she’s a bit too wimpy for me. She’s always breaking down and crying. And a lot is happening – I get it – but it’s time to toughen up chica. And the moments where she tries to be commanding felt forced. The men are always breaking down and crying too… I don’t want to sound like I’m not okay with guys crying, I totally am. But it just didn’t feel appropriate here – situations where I wouldn’t really see a woman crying and the guys are getting all teary eyed.

So anyway, the characters lacked for me. As did their dialogue.

The Story…
However, the world was a definite strong point. I really love this world that Shayna has created. It’s our world, but supernatural beings live among us and Nia is one of them – she’s always known something was different about her, but she didn’t know what it was. But something’s happened and it’s flipping her world upside down. Shayna developed some really cool elements here – a lot happens when the characters are asleep, because the enter another realm and communicate there. The magic potential is very neat too – I would have liked to see a lot more of it, but I see the potential for sure. I was particularly frustrated that (considering all the shifting view points) we don’t really see Aaron developing his guardian powers, just all of a sudden he says he’s been practicing in his sleep. It seemed to me that the story could have really benefited with a few less romantic focuses and little more time really showing us all this magic and the fantastic world that clearly exists in Shayna’s head. I look forward to seeing more of it.

I’m sticking by my 3 star rating because, even though I seem to keep pointing out things I wished had happened, I liked the story enough to care that they didn’t. If it wasn’t good with solid potential, I just wouldn’t care. I think I kept waiting for things to get super exciting, though, and I just hope they will in book 2. True Fate started off with this really exciting scene and then we flashed back and it took too long to get back to that point (and when we did get to it, it didn’t quite fit in. I kind of questioned whether I had actually gotten to it or not, but I assume that I did). So yeah, I’ll just reiterate – more of the action and magic that was super cool and less of the romance.

I have one other complaint that I don’t usually like to harp on, but feel I have to mention - True Fate was still in need of a good edit. I’m not talking about a few misspellings (because then I wouldn’t even mention it). Tense is constantly shifting from past to present tense… you can tell a story either way, but please be consistent. There was also a lot of sentences that were badly punctuated and it took me a second to understand them, because they should have been two sentences or had a comma or something. So I hope that the next book in the series will be more carefully edited (or that this one will get major revisions and a rerelease/eBook update). This was the Shayna’s debut novel, so I’m not going to let this be something that keeps me away from her future books at all.

Concluding Sentiments…
In the end, True Fate had enough action and world building for me to enjoy the story and I do plan to read the next book. I hope that we’ll see a bit more character focus and get a chance to see more of this fantastic world, because I think they both have fantastic potential.

"Fate may have been on their side but anyone knows going too hot and heavy too fast causes a fire to fizzle out before it's time."

True Fate is the perfect combination of love and romance thrown into a strange new world. This book is filled with amazing characters that will steal your heart away!

Nia is nineteen. She is living the perfect life, with a best friend who is like her sister, a loving family, and a dream house. Life couldn't get any better for Nia, that is until she bumps into Mr.Perfect and feels an instant connection to him. What Nia doesn't know is that this new boy she met, will become her guardian, sworn to protect her. Nia is swept away when she enters a dream world where people are constantly telling her that she is special, and in danger. Can Nia really be that special?

I absolutely loved this book. Even thought it does focus on more of the love story between the characters instead of action, which is not something I read often, I really enjoyed it.
It's pretty hard not to enjoy a book with a well-rounded character like Nia. Not only is she a fun loving character, but she also has fantastic taste. In her parents dream house, her room is filled with books, and she's even read Clockwork Prince, major props for that. I love the relationship she has with her best friend Rhea and her family in the beginning of this book, I honestly couldn't describe a more perfect character. Even thought I loved Nia in the beginning, there were parts with her that I found odd, there is a part in the book where she fights with her dad, and I tried to understand what she went through, but it just seemed like shes never had a problem with her parents before and she just didn't know how to deal with it at first. Things like this made her seem like a "perfect character" but not something a real person would do.

Aaron is Mr.Perfect I mentioned before. I was pretty impressed when Nia bumped into him, and my respect just kept growing for him, especially since he doesn't drink, which is a major plus in my books (I am way too tired of books with under-age drinking). He honestly seems like the perfect guy for most girls out there, but for me he seemed a little overprotective of Nia and I don't dig the whole "It's cute when you're jealous" thing, but I feel like most girls would.

I absolutely love how the main romance isn't the only romance in this book. It seemed pretty much like every character got to be in a relationship of some sort and it just made things way more enjoyable to read, and it made things really different and exciting.

I also wanted to take some time to congratulate a specific character.
Avery - the first girl to get out of the friend zone!!!
A round of applause please!!

I definitely recommend this book to everyone, it was such a lovely story to read. You will not be dissapointed. I absolutely can't wait till the next one comes out.

Thanks so much for reading,
- Aneta

Thanks to the author I received this book for free in return for a review.

True Fate is the author's début novel and she has done a really good job. I liked this book a lot but, there are a few shortcomings.

Lets look at the positives first.

The book has romance and, mystery with a hint of action and, will appeal to readers of YA. It has a good plot with no obvious loopholes. Shayna Varadeaux is a really good story teller and she draws you into the story with ease. The characters have been developed well and, are believable for most part. The conclusion wasn't a cliffhanger but, there are a lot of unanswered question at the end and, you will definitely want to read the second book of the series.

Now the negatives.

The first and, the most frustrating thing that struck me as soon as I started reading, were the grammatical mistakes. When you are narrating a story you do it in past tense. But, here one sentence is in past tense, the next one is in present and, the one after that is again in past tense. The sentence construction was also bad in some places. Some sentences had extra words in them that did not belong there. The were some spelling mistakes too.

Then there were the punctuation mistakes. I was reading a sentence and, suddenly I realised the sentence didn't make much sense. I read the sentence again and, that is when I realised that there were actually two sentences but, the full stop between them was missing. This is just one of the many punctuation mistakes found in the book.

It was really frustrating that despite the author's beautiful writing style and, a good plot, I couldn't enjoy the book as much as I wanted to because of these mistakes.

As far as the story is concerned I just have a few minor issues with it.

The good news is that most of the grammatical and punctuation mistakes are found in the first one third of the book. As the book progresses these mistakes become very few and, are not very obvious.

The book definitely needs to undergo another round of editing and, I hope that the next book of the series doesn't have any of the shortcoming present in this book.

Despite its shortcoming I really enjoyed reading True Fate and would recommend it to readers of YA and Paranormal Romance.

This gets a three star mainly due to the mystery side of the story. I loved how we were revealed small parts at a time; it certainly kept my mind guessing at the possibilities.

Firstly, I really liked Nia as a main character. She was strong when she needed to be but had a softer side that made me want to like her. I feel that nowadays, most authors go one way or another; ultimately, you hate them because they are too slushy/weak or are too hard faced/abrasive. Nia was just the right balance. :)

My only concern was the dreaded insta-love curse. It hit pretty hard in this one, but for some reason, and I fail every fellow Goodreads member on here by saying this, I didn't care that much. (I can't believe it either. I managed to look past it!)

Yeah, it was annoying and I rolled my eyes a few times, but for the most part I enjoyed reading about Nia and Aaron's romance. My only issues - Aaron was bit too heavy at first, can you say creepy stalker much? And, Nia was a bit too trusting, can you say naïve much? BUT, it wasn't as bad as some other stories that I have read. It was probably the "fated" storyline that made me appreciate the love. It had a purpose and therefore I understood the necessity of it.

However, I was intrigued from the start - if we weren't falling in love with Aaron, we were travelling through the paranormal world, imersing overselves in the mystery and meeting even more mysterious strangers. The paranormal side of the story didn't fail me and I really enjoyed how Varadeaux revealed small parts, bit by bit, to keep you on the edge. I loved the interwoven storylines between the other characters, the history that was involved in the story and the general paranormal element of the plot.

The ending didn't disappoint either. :)

Basically, if you love paranormal mystery, romance and adventure, then I would definitely give this a go.

What?!?! Are you kidding me? You can't leave it at that! You just can't! I want more! I need book 2 right now! Oh my God, it's gonna be a very loooong wait I suppose.... *Sigh*

Okay, so, my review:

The story was good, very good, even though there were some scenes a little too sugary where the love birds were concerned. I mean, so sugary I wanted to either go and wash my teeth or get a shot of insulin. Especially in the beginning when Nia and Aaron barely knew each other. I wanted to gag some times. And it took me a while to warm up to them. I just didn't feel the love right away as they did for each other. I started to feel their emotion and passion about halfway through the story.
What was I saying? Oh yes, the story was good and intriguing. I wanted to know what/who Nia was and what was her destiny and what was that prophecy about. One thing remained a mystery though: what the hell happened in Nia's sleep to wake up wounded and bleeding?!?!?! This is gonna kill me and blow my mind until next book when we will maybe learn more.
How about the characters? I must say, Aaron and Nia weren't my favorite characters. Not that I didn't like them. They were nice and didn't bother me. Except for when they were too sweet and sugary or when I wanted to slap Nia for being silly a couple times. So, they were good characters, but I didn't feel that special thing for them.
I totally loved Eric (aka Rian) instead! And I'm not ashamed to say I now have a little crush on him. Don't tell Avery though!
I also liked Savannah a lot. I was skeptical and didn't trust her when she first arrived, but then I warmed up to her in a very short time!
Rhea was an amazing friend to Nia and I liked her.
I can't say much more. Sorry, I'm still in a daze.
And also thinking about Eric.... *blush*
So, I'm telling you, you MUST read this book! And I can't wait for book 2 "True Chaos"!

I got this book from the author, free of cost, in exchange of an honest review from my side.

Firstly I would like to thank the author and Lovers of Paranormal Group of Goodreads for giving me this opportunity of reading and reviewing this book.

This book is really awesome!!!

There is action, adventure, secrets, suspense and so much more. I loved the story line very much because it felt really unique and fresh. The awesome writing of the author grabbed my attention from the very first and kept me hooked in. The descriptions are so vividly portrayed that it will lure you in to the story and will make you a part of it.

Talking about the characters I would just say that I loved Nia the most, she was a little confused at first, well I guess when your world is falling apart you get the right to be weak even if you are the heroine in here. I liked the plot planning and the way the events smoothly unfolded was really nice, it felt as if one event led to another automatically.

The suspense was well kept and I couldn't predict the big bad secret even at the moment just before the revelation of this secret and it gave me chills and thrills too. I would highly recommend this book to others and I know that you guys are going to devour it and who can resist the gorgeous cover, eh? So go ahead and grab yours now before your friends beat it to it. Enjoy!!!

I was given this book by the author Shayna Varadeaux, via Lovers of Paranormal, in exchange for an honest review.

Nia knew that odd things happened to her and that she was 'different' and this story follows her discovery of how she is different and the people that help her on her discovery.

Not until the very last word do we find out just how different Nia and Aaron are.

Nia and her relationship with her friend Rhea is very strong and believable.

I loved this book. The first chapter or so was a bit confusing but not too off-putting. The characters are great and really well written as well as being consistent and likable. The book kept me gripped throughout. The love-stories of the various couples are cute but not sickeningly so. Nia and Aaron are just lovely together!

The different characters that are brought into the story as we go along all have different aspects of the 'other realms' to share and enlighten us a bit further. I can't wait for the series to continue to find out more about the back stories of them all and the world they come from.

A great read!

What would you do if your fate led you to a destiny where you had to trust strangers to protect you and you were expected to be something you didn't know existed?

Nia has always known she was different, but she kept it secret from everyone but her best friend Rhea. But when Nia meets Aaron her life begins to change and she is thrust into a world she never knew existed. Nia's life is in danger from those who want her dead and her only hope relies in the hands of strangers she doesn't even know. But with the help of Aaron and the support of her best friend, Rhea, Nia pursues her fate to find answers about who she is and what she is destined to become.

True Fate is a great read full of action, betrayal, and love. I highly recommend this book to those who love fantasy, romance, and a fast paced read.

I was happy to receive a copy of TRUE FATE from the author via smashwords.

TRUE FATE is a story bursting with good ideas, and the author's vision is ambitious and full of potential.Unfortunately there were grammatical errors and tense issues that were hard for me to overlook while I was reading. However-- TRUE FATE is undergoing editing and may read more smoothly in later editions!

Great storyline

Let me start off by noting that this book is very detail oriented. If you like to get right into the action, then you might not like this book. Personally I didn't mind it, although sometimes I skipped through parts because there are just too many details.

Other than that the story and characters are well written. The story starts of with two best friends, but the main character is Nia. Her and her friend Rhea are taking a break from school and are planning a trip up north. Before the trip while Nia is shopping she literally runs into a very good looking guy,Aaron. There's an immediate attraction for both of them, both physical and emotional. They're not sure why, but they feel like they've known each other for years.

Nia has always known there was something different about her, but never knew why. It seemed she had some powers or something magical since she was little. It was Rhea's and her secret. When she meets Aaron she is unknowingly beginning her new life, as well as Aaron is beginning his.Her powers start to become stronger as their journey begins together.

I enjoyed all the characters. I really love Nia's family. It is her mom and dad and two sisters. They all seem very close, loving and a family I would enjoy being around. Their home sounded absolutely amazing. The parents definitely made quite a bit of money. I like that Nia wasn't a spoiled brat and didn't want to be one. She worked for her dad and bought her car on her own. She really didn't want hand outs and enjoyed working hard. I'm happy the author added that in because its not something you see very often.

Overall this was a good book and I look forward to reading the next in the series.

I was sent a copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.

This story start off with Nia, she is the type of person where strange thing always happened to her. Rehea is Nia best friend, and they just called them flukes, not knowing that there was more to it than that. Than one day Nia met a stranger name Aaron, and there was immediate attraction to him. It felt like they knew each all of their lives. It was a knowing that they belong together from the moment that they laid eyes on each other. Well I guess I will stop here before I give too much of the story always.

This book has adventure with suspense, and romance, that Shayna Varadeaux, was able to include paranormal element to the story. It was an enjoyable read one that I couldn't put down until the end.I can't wait for the next book to come out.
