Alastair Campbell sits in the Cabinet, has an overview of government denied to ministers with control over the flow of information. Here is chronicled his Rabelaisian early years as a busker, porn-merchant and hard-drinking Fleet Street pugilist until a nervous breakdown in mid 1980s led to his conversion to focused political animal.

a thorough and informative analysis of the chief titan behind the formidable new labour media machine. no doubt confirms in my mind that cambell (of course, alongside blair, brown and mandelson) was a true genius of his time, whom much can be learnt from — and should be learnt from!

A very thorough and revealing account of Campbell's relationship with the media during the Blair years, and his power over the press. This is not a puff piece.

A bit dull but did nothing to dispell the impression I get that Campbell is a hypocrite (a typical champagne socialist).
