She made her debut in September 2003 in the monthly manga magazine Nakayoshi with her story, Tenshi no Tamago ("Angel's Egg", no relation to the anime movie of the same name). Gokkun! Pūcho is considered her best representative work. Tokyopop has licenced it under the title Pixie Pop. All of her works are published by Kodansha, and they are enjoyed mainly by preteen and teen girls. None of her series have yet become anime.
This series is absolutely amazing, need I say more? I would have bought the fourth volume but I think my mum would faint if she saw that I spent almost $40 bucks on this series And I think my other books are getting jealous, just like Yukina. A fun and hilarious volume just like the others. Mission 1 I order you to read this manga...NOW!!
Yukina's classmates avoid her for the cold look she gives everyone. And that suits her just fine: she loves to observe people as it gives her ideas for the novel she's been writing under the penname Yupina. Yupina's novel has become widely popular but there's one thing her readers are in want of: romance. As this is new terrain for Yukina, she decides she needs some first-hand experience. Coincidently, she finds out that her popular classmate Shigure isn't as nice as he lets on. Yukina decides that he will be the one to teach her romance through her missions of love or else she'll let the school see Shigure's true colours.
Missions of Love is an engrossing and addictive manga whilst also being problematic: people who like to crush things by pointing out all its social and moral impropriety will have a field day with this one. My personal main issue with it, though, is that it suffered from its length. I am very sure that this manga was dragged out after the first volumes proved to be such a success.
This manga starts off very strong in which Yukina and Shigure playing out a perfect high school enemies to lovers scenario. Both of them are strong characters and they're constantly trying to get the upper hand in their power struggle which is also filled with lots of chemistry and tension. At times they are perfectly mean to each other, at other times true feelings start to surface and they begin to care. Rivals are thrown in one after the other and while a lot of people might not like this, I believe it was rather necessary in this particular case as neither Yukina nor Shigure would be willing to confess how they really feel without some jealousy or sense of loss involved.
Tōyama has the tendency to make rival characters come across as creepy psychopaths, it's actually something I never liked about her works. Be that as it may, the first two rivals are Yukina's cousin Akira and Shigure's childhood friend Mami. They are both rather possessive and for the most part feel like meddlers. As the story progresses, though, both of them become more fleshed out and start to move away from their obsessions. This turns both of them into likeable characters who actually have really cute and warm sides to them. Mami in particular really grew on me once she stopped being the little psycho she was introduced as.
I would have much preferred this series to have wrapped up with just those characters and with only half the amount of volumes it actually amounted to. The story seems to progress naturally when suddenly the kindergarten teacher arc is introduced: Yukina's former teacher has left her with insecurities she still struggles with today. Although this was already mentioned early on in the series, the appearance of the teacher seemed to derail the plot. That whole arc feels random and cutting it out wouldn't change the outcome of the series one bit. It almost feels like Tōyama was trying to create new tensions, realised it wasn't going well and opted to drop it in favour of a different plotline. It was over and done with as fast and sudden as it came. I faintly remember even thinking of dropping the series at that stage during my first read.
However, while not as strong as the first volumes, Missions of Love catches itself again and makes a turn for the better - mostly in any case. Another rival character is introduced and it adds both pros and cons to the remainder of the story. Hisame is Shigure's younger brother (through marriage, non-blood related) and boy do they not see eye to eye. This adds some much-needed insight to Shigure's life and why he is the way he is. The problem is that Hisame is yet another psychotic little jerk who, unlike Akira and Mami, stays that way. Sure, he certainly does have a few nice moments and cute scenes, but ultimately, he's a creepy little shit.
Putting aside Hisame's creepy ways, the latter volumes mainly deal with the characters' inner feelings which is particularly important in regard to Yukina. She is a tricky character in the sense that a lot of her behaviour seems odd. I can easily see her coming across as a character who is impossibly oblivious to love when it's standing right in front of her. You could read this manga and ask yourself time and again, why is she being so dense? In that same sense, you might wonder how she can share intimate moments with multiple characters without understanding why it's wrong or why it would bother others. While it's never actually spelt out, it is highly implied that there is more to it than just poor characterisation. I don't know much about the different sexual identities, so I won't go ahead labelling Yukina as something I know nothing of, but it's clear that while Yukina feels sexual attraction, she struggles with the concept of love. She is genuinely trying to understand what's inside her heart and beats herself up over not succeeding. She loves different people around her but she doesn't seem to understand the differences between the love one has for friends, family members and the romantic type.
People who have only read the first few volumes and criticise this manga over Yukina blackmailing Shigure into playing love games, this problem does actually get addressed in the latter volumes. Although Yukina is generally speaking a confident girl, there is something about her that prevents her from reading certain social cues, and I suspect it's the same that prevents her from understanding the different kinds of love. Yukina is often seen doing things that either stand out or just makes others around her feel awkward. She herself doesn't feel any of this awkwardness and it's usually done out of complete innocence. Once again, I am no expert, but there is definitely a complexity behind why Yukina is the way she is and a lot of this manga's ultimate question is whether or not Shigure can love and accept her for who she is.
Missions of Love does have a couple more things sprinkled throughout that rub me the wrong way: I can't get my head around when Yukina, Shigure and Akira get intimate at the same time, I wish there would have been more closure to what became of Mami and Akira (I can't say I care what became of Hisame) and what is it with Yukina's breasts?! I love Tōyama's art but can we take a moment to look at how material hangs over breasts - Yukina seems to have rather large ones but it doesn't mean her clothes should stick to her.
Drawing 101:
Here I'm just nitpicking but Yukina's breasts are definitely drawn like the former.
Missions of Love has it's issues - no doubt there. But it's nicely drawn and really brings out what you'd expect from an enemies to lovers plot. For the most of it, it's an enjoyable read and one that you don't put down easily. I'd definitely recommend it to romance lovers who can turn a blind eye to the issues that come with Yukina and Shigure's story.
I sped through this manga so quickly, you would think that I was in a race. Not only was it super easy and engaging to read, but I just had to know what would happen next. I'm hoping that from this manga onwards, you would start to see a healthier relationship being depicted between Yukina and Shigure because Shigure explicitly says that it's not about the blackmail anymore. The downside is that Akira, Yukina's cousin still wants to be with Yukina romantically. That's the only thing which is making me not enjoy this book. It would have been better if they were not related or if Yukina didn't like her romantically. You can have a love triangle without including incest. I do have one more manga. I am interested in seeing what will happen next but I am unsure if I would purchase more books of this series. I will have to wait until after the end of the fourth volume to make that decision. I do hope that I am able to continue with the series because I think there is potential for me to enjoy it, but I also know that if I start disliking other elements of the manga series, along with feeling uncomfortable about Yukina's romantic feelings for his cousin, then I probably would stop reading the series.
Codarda!!
I’ve realized that Comixology only has the first 9 volumes with Unlimited and that my local library for some reason only has 16-19.... am I going to splurge and buy 10 through 15... that might be like 60 dollars... for maybe a days worth of reading... why is manga so expensive!

There is a weird amount of sexual tension in these considering that the characters are 14 or 15. That said, and in spite of the oddness of the love triangle (he's her cousin for crying out loud), I rather enjoyed that.
I'm both amused and horrified that the two main love interests are literally just using each other, but in using each other are developing actual feelings.
Akira is still superior though and deserves better. His backstory was so sad.
It's getting interesting...I really liked this addition to the series. I like the characters more and more and their relations to each other become more tangled and interesting.
This is not wonderful, but it's also not a complete snooze. I suspect it will continue to hold my interest but, when I'm done, I'll happily donate the series to the library.
As usual, in general I found volume 3 of Watashi ni xx Shinasai! better than its predecessor, but once again I only give it three stars. While there are lots of positive improvements going in the manga, some negatives are emerging that diminish the development of the plot lines. If that's the case, then why do I still continue reading this when there has hardly been any significant change? As I have mentioned, the sole purpose why I read shoujo-slash-romance mangas is because they make my blood pump in sheer excitement towards the romance between the characters. Since it's doing that for me, I don't complain too much.
First of all, I would like to note that the cover is misleading. Even if there's smut written on the genre list, it's not smut at all. It was illustrated wonderfully as usual, but it is quite disturbing. Which brings me, the relationship of Akira and Yukina kind of ruins the picture. I wish for the nth time that the mangaka didn't make the latter her cousin. Seriously. How many times do I have to say that?
Sadly, Yukina's character is on its way to losing the potential charm that I glimpsed at the first few chapters. By now I could say that she has managed to fall into the cliche category of shoujo manga heroines. While once in a while she would still showcase her strong and domineering side, her weaker persona far outweighed her strength. Furthermore, her naivete has become more extreme to the point of sheer stupidity.
Bit by bit, I am liking Shigure more and more. Surely he is definitely different than most heroes, but I can see his innate charm. Needless to say, Mizuno is annoying and she is another epitome of cliche - it should be branded on her forehead. She was way too expected and predictable she seemed to make the whole thing crumble apart.
I'm still not losing hope that Watashi wa xx Shinasai! will ascend to four-stars. And since so far it's able to do what I wish it would do, then I'd continue reading this.

Yupina's cell phone novel gains a major boost in popularity with the introduction of the typical love story trope–the love triangle. What does this mean for Yukina's real life? Her cousin Akira has confessed his undying love for her, and both she and Shigure become unsure of their true feelings.
My Thoughts:
So Akira has confessed his love to Yukina and Shigure doesn't like it at all. He doesn't seem to really understand why it bothers him. He seems to think that it's just because he doesn't want Yukina to fall for anyone but him. That may be part of it, but no way that's all of it.
Yukina for her part now has two boys that make her heart skip a beat. I think she likes Shigure most, though. She can't seem to get him off of her mind, at least, until his childhood friend Mami shows back up at school. When Yukina thinks that Shigure has some kind of unrequited love with Mami, she thinks it's boring and loses interest in him. She even decides to let him off the hook and stop doing her missions. Before that, though, she actually feels jealous of Mami, though she completely misunderstands her own feelings. It bothers her that Shigure can be his real self and smile at a girl that isn't her. But when she feels she's over him, Shigure doesn't like it at all. It's no longer about missions; he plans to make her fall in love with him for real.
Mami witnesses this interaction, though I don't think she sees the whole thing. Just Shigure carrying out his mission of carrying Yukina in his arms. When Shigure gets called away, Mami approaches Yukina... I don't trust that girl one little bit. She may really be sick, but she tends to exaggerate. Something makes Shigure rush to her side, though. Why? I can't wait to find that out.
I am enjoying this series more now, and I am determined to get caught up in it, but I’m still waiting to be enraptured in the story. I’m just not really feeling Yukina’s character, or as much of the romance as I should be.
I am enjoying the romance, and even liking the love triangle (and forming square), even if I’m not connecting quite as much as I could be. I like the potential I see in all of the characters, and I’m enjoying what I’ve gotten so far, but there just isn’t enough for me yet.
I like Akira—he seems like a sweetheart to me, if a little possessive. I like Shigure, although he’s frustrating me. Shigure and Yukina are definitely oblivious to their actual feelings, or in denial of them, which I hope doesn’t last too much longer.
We got some family background for Yukina and Akira, and I liked that; I also just like Yukina’s parents and find them absolutely adorable. I’m intrigued by the new girl, Mami, and look forward to officially getting to know her in the next book. I know that the romance is going to get heavier, or at least more physical, in later books, and I look forward to that, being the romance junkie that I am.
I’m looking forward to being completely enraptured in this series, and I feel like it’s coming—I just can’t wait to get there.
Though, it turns into a love quadrangle pretty quickly, but it still has the essence of love triangles I hate: One girl who can't pick between two guys and so they fight over her to win her hand. I'm sorry, I hate indecisiveness. Though, on the bright side, the "Oh noes! I don't know who to pick!" isn't played up much. In fact, it isn't played up at all. It's more of a, "I don't really care who I fall in love with, just one of you win me already," kind of attitude, so I suppose it's different, but still... :\
Otherwise, this has been rather par for the course of this series, even with the introduction of a new character (possibly a rival in love?)
So Akira wants a chance and suddenly the punk from school wants her to fall for him even tho he "doesn't like her" lol I hate guys like that, but man, he looks sexy trying to fluster her, can't blame her for being attracted to him haha Hope Akira gets a fair chance though, he seems to truly love her
