1,234 books49 followersIsaac Watts was an English hymnwriter, theologian and logician. A prolific and popular hymnwriter, he was recognised as the "Father of English Hymnody", credited with some 650 hymns. Many of his hymns remain in use today, and have been translated into many languages.
Watts was the author of a text book on logic which was particularly popular; its full title was, Logic, or The Right Use of Reason in the Enquiry After Truth With a Variety of Rules to Guard Against Error in the Affairs of Religion and Human Life, as well as in the Sciences. This was first published in 1724, and its popularity ensured that it went through twenty editions. Isaac Watts' Logic became the standard text on logic at Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard and Yale; being used at Oxford University for well over 100 years.

Much like reading the Biblical book of Psalms, there is a hymn for many different occasions & varieties of emotions! A few of them I highlighted & took notes (in the eBook version of it), so I could go back & use them for different occasions. There were also some hymns that I recognized as church songs, & I was excited to make note of those songs. I was even surprised by how few of his hymns were actually made into church songs, or just surprised by how few of his hymns were still sung today. I thought so many were relevant, & even divinely inspired, but I was shocked that I had never heard them sung. I hope to use some of the verses in some songs as inspiration for artwork or encouraging posters (definitely giving credit where credit is due).
