So volumes 12 and 13 would make a start for season 2 for the series, the season that never happened. Basically, if you're too lazy to get through known material, you can skip vol. 1-10 or even 11 and get straight to the next ones. But I think it's not a good idea, the skipping, because some small but important details can be missed. Manga is always a fuller source, anyway, even if anime was made with minor or none at all changes. Right now I'm even more intrigued than I was in the beginning.

Claymore 13

En cuanto a la historia principal, seguimos aprendiendo cosas sobre que paso hace 7 años y la organización. Y pues hay digamos dos grupos que van hacia ciertos puntos, quizá .
Al final hay un par de flashback, interesantes.

[ Re-read in 2023. ]

Audrey and Rachel are fighting against Riful and the squad of the surviving Claymores come to help them before they get killed or in worst case, before they get awakened in order to join Riful’s plans.

Riful gives Clare information about the other Creatures of the Abyss so she would become her ally because she can read yoma power and apparently that’s a skill she needs to defeat Isley and Priscilla. Still, Clare only considers to join her side and when the time comes, the squad runs away before Riful can get to them.

On the other hand, we have Miata, a young yet powerful Claymore of the new generation that is on a mission to get Galatea’s head along with Clarice.

This volume was a bit less interesting than the previous ones because it feels like it’s all over the place with the timelines but I hope the next one gets better.

3.5/5 Audrey and Rachel are facing off against Riful and it seams like they have the upper hand until they don’t. Clare and Mirai jump in to save the day. We then get a bit of history which fleshes the story out a bit.

After that we’re back with Clarice and Miata and their whole bizarre mother daughter breast feeding thing as they are set off to hunt Galatea.

The last 2 chapters are side stories one about Teresa taking a black card from the former #1. And one about Mirai that also involves the wack job Ophelia.

I still love the art and action but this whole timeline jumping is making things confusing and we’re getting a larger and larger cast of characters whom all look a like.

Clare saving a claymore for Riful on the cover of Volume 13.

I decided that this was it.
In the past few days I've gotten into reading Mangas for real for the first time. And like the way I tackle all things in life, I go a little over the top and follow extreme measures.
The story of Claymore still interests me, though I came to the conclusion that it just wasn't worth the time, seeing as I've just finished the 13 volume out of 27!!! I just want to state again that I really enjoyed it thus far. However, I've read somewhere that they stretch out the plot too much and I read some Wikipedia summaries as well and skipped through a few pages of the later volumes. I have a general sense of how it will end, but just really don't want to invest my time in it. Besides, I did get confused often during the action fight scenes because the warriors all look so simmilar and the angles don't make it easier to recognise them.
Reading Mangas, however, did bump up my reading stats for this year by a lot. I feel kinda like I'm cheating because normally it wouldn't be possible for me to have 50 books under my belt by July. So, I guess, I'll have to up my reading goal again to still keep things fair haha

Good solid quiet moments and CONTEXT!

World: The art is superb with Riful stuff, it’s gorgeous. The world building also takes a big step this book with finally some context of what’s happening in the greater world. There has been a time jump and we see where are all the pieces are now and what’s at stake...but still not a lot of info on the organization.

Story: The first part with the four mains was well done with Riful and some context. I like that we get some answer, still not seeing why Clare would wait 7 years to find Raki, that makes absolutely no sense at all, but oh well. The things we learn are interesting and I am enjoying that much needed context. The second story with Miata and what’s happened with her and the organization is also interesting and we do get a bit of a look at what’s happening, not enough though but Miata and her Mama (I forgot her name) is interesting, and creepy.

Characters: Solid character work this time around with quiet moments and context. But not deep, only surface and moving pieces around. The new info on Miata is interesting but mostly also on the surface. This book really needs more time to dive into these characters.

Solid building book.

Onward to the next book!

Always as good! We also have some kind of extra scenes at the ends, almost 1/3 of the book actually, that bring some background/past moments from various characters, which is good but slow down the actual storyline evolution, you can obviously skip them but I wouldn't recommend so because there are good and bring some, not essential, but important detail and help appreciate some characters even more.

The series continues to be solid at the halfway point, with this volume serving to fill in some more story gaps that were created when the seven year jump occurred, as well as setting up the next big arc. I'm really looking forward to seeing the development of Miata, who is quickly turning into a very intriguing, complex, and downright strange character, and it's nice to see such a different, unpredictable Claymore. I also enjoyed the two flashback chapters, as getting to see Teresa again was a nice treat.

i still don't know how i feel about having a big time jump. I feel it makes things more confusing and harder to follow. At this point, I also don't really care about the new generation of Claymores. i think it's too many characters to follow and the fact that they look pretty similar doesn't help.

No wonder there wasn't a season 2 for the Anime...

I did really appreciate the extra Teresa Scene though

I hope it gets better *Fingers crossed*

I really enjoyed the last awakened one but why is a child who is well past breastfeeding age suckling?

I’m just very disturbed by the whole situation. It literally starts with sa! It just why did the author have to put that in its fucked up

Claymore is a manga about Yoma who pretend to be human in order to kill and eat the humans. The Claymore are the hybrid of the two stronger faster but still human with the ability to slay the Yoma which they do for a price. They travel from village to village slaying Yoma with nothing but the sword on their back using the Yoma abilities but slowly turning into a monster that they hunt. When the time comes a Claymore will send a black card to another claymore to be slain before the Yoma takes over and so they die as a human.

In the 13th installment the claymore’s who faked their death have returned to the lands they once roamed hunting Yoma only this time it’s for revenge. While Clare is determined to find Raki it isn’t at the cost of her friends or comrades. They wear different uniforms because they no longer work for the organization and when they save a pair of claymore’s from Riful they knock them out. We are also given a little more story on Clarice and Miata as they hunt down Galatea.

I like Clare she’s a sword carrying slayer who isn’t afraid to die charging in risking her life. She may not survive every encounter but that doesn’t stop her from doing what has to be done protecting the humans. While most Claymore’s wouldn’t allow Raki to tag along she accepts him and maybe it’s partly because they are kindred but he needs her and she him to keep her humanity. I find Clare to be an intriguing character and can’t wait to see more about her back story as well as what’s going to happen next. We are given a little back story on Clare which introduces us to Teresa a Claymore whose life was changed by Clare.

I’ve seen all of the episodes on Netflix a few years ago actually binge watched them over a long weekend. I love the concept for the Claymore the hybrids created using parts from the monsters that they have been created to fight. While I am familiar with the story it’s interesting to see it play out as I read it. The art is great it gives me just enough to create the story in my head as I read each detailed page. This is only my 2nd manga so I don’t have a lot to go on but so far I’m super exited to read the series. Claymore is a fast paced loaded with action series that is captivating right from the start hard to put down till the last page. Can’t wait to start the next one in the series they just keep getting better. I feel like a voracious Reader because I can’t get enough.

With every volume it feels like we're on the verge of a major plot revelation, but it never comes. The vagueness gets irritating. I understand as much about yoma and creatures of the abyss as I did 10 volumes ago. I want to learn more about the universe, but all the interesting bits get shoved to the side so we can have another long battle that takes up 75 percent of the book. I find the fight sequences boring due to their incoherence. I can only tell which way the battle is heading once it's over and one person/monster is dead on the ground.

A little too much nudity and sexualization of children for my taste. One of the weirder entries in this series.

This volume is set-up for the eventual war to come. All the different parties and rallying their troops. Plot wise, it seems like the calm before the storm, but it is still action-packed.

Halfway through the series, this has been a superb read. Clare is becoming one of my favorite female characters. The pace and worldbuilding are perfect. The stakes is always clear and the scale of a fight is well conveyed (which distinguishes Claymore from most battle manga).

The art is excellent. My second favorite in manga after Inoue's 'Vagabond'. Not only because of the mastery you can see in every page, but for the fact that the art style complements the themes.

In a world where claymores, warriors infused with the blood of monsters, can draw from their inner monster to become stronger, every battle is risky. Do you call upon your inner demon in order to survive, at the risk of becoming a monster yourself, or do you struggle in a shorthanded fight you're likely to lose? The claymores are always walking on thin ice.

What does that have to do with the art style? See, claymores who turn into monsters are drawn with a hyper-realistic level of detail, while at the same time having a menacing, surreal character design. When you see these creatures on the page, they look like they have ascended into another plane of existence. Compared to the flat, and often bland design of the claymores in their human form, the monsters are all distinct and innovative in ways that will make you gasp with every reveal, even after 100 chapters.

Now you have two art styles at odds with one another, the world of humans (people and cities) have this flat feel to them, where as the wild world of monsters and nature are drawn with exquisite detail. My interpretation is that this is an external representation of the Man-Beast duality. Humanity comes with a price to pay; you sacrifice the uninhibited satisfaction of instincts, but at the cost of losing a lot of your individuality and becoming a more "tamed" version of what you could be. Perhaps this is a far-fetched interpretation, but these are the questions that Claymore is making me ponder.

This is a manga you should definitely not miss.

Today's post is on Claymore volume 13: The Defiant Ones by Norihiro Yagi. It is the thirteenth the long running Claymore series, you need to have read the first twelve volumes to understand the story. It is 192 pages long and is published by Shonen Jump Advanced. The cover has Clare carrying another Claymore as she is dodging an Awakening One. The intended reader is someone who likes dark plots, high action, and strong female characters. There is mild foul language, no sexuality, and lots of violence in this book. The story is told from third person close of the main character. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

Review- Audrey and Rachel continue their battle against Riful of the West, and Clare learns some surprising truths about Priscilla, Isley and the struggle for power amongst the Three Great Awakened Ones. Meanwhile, the Organization decides to send Miata and Clarice out on an important mission, but will Clarice to able to keep her unstable young charge in line?

Review- We pick up where the last volume left off with two new Claymores fighting Riful and they are losing but do not know it yet. Luckily for them Clare and her comrades do know it and they are not going to let them get killed. Riful is willing to talk to Clare and give her information but Riful is looking for Claymores who can sense Yoma energy and Riful wants Clare to join her in fighting Isley and maybe take over the world. The very powerful but childlike Claymore Miata is something else entirely, she is so powerful but her mind is totally gone. Clarice has a lot on her hands working to keep Miata calm when she is not fighting Awakened Ones. I am not sure how the two story lines are going to merge and I am very curious about what the Organization is really getting at with these odd Claymores but I will find out soon enough.

I give this volume a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.

(Zero spoiler review) 3.5/5
Two decent arcs in a row. I could get used to this. All of my complaining about the inconsistencies and imperfections of this series. Is it too much too think that we are finally... finally getting somewhere as we draw to the halfway point? If it continues on in a similar vein to this, I will forgive all past indiscretions (within reason) if I can get another 14 volumes with this level of structure, narrative competency and increased dialogue and shorter, more focused fight scenes. The split into multiple plot points is starting to pay dividends, even though it is still highly difficult to tell the various Claymores apart. I wouldn't complain if they all started wearing nametags to be honest. The haircuts only help to a point.
Whilst the dialogue doesn't exactly vibrate with poetic intensity, it is becoming slightly less the sole vehicle for exposition and now advances the plot to a certain extent. Plus there's more of it. I think this volume took the longest to read out of all the others, which added to the experience, and made me stop and reflect more on what was happening, rather than just breezing through the bloated fight scenes. I'll likely know later today whether this trend will continue., when I pick up volume 14. Fingers crossed, not for the first time. 3.5/5

They kinda had me goin at first. Bold enough to do a major time skip = bold enough to kill main villains

Miata’s so metal. She be missing a few screws but that allows her to soar. Poor lass. For awakened designs there be a lot of Diablo vibes. Rosemary and Luciela look like Diablo IIIs female avatar. We’re given some bonus chapters which seem purposeful for creating character moments, however some of them are likely not coming back…I wonder what other motive there could be for our blasts from the pasts. If it’s for the sake of it that’s cool. If it’s to setup some emotional scenes down the line or simply to remind us that the old numbers were strong enough for powerful awakened ones that’s cool too.

I appreciate the series on certain volumes while others fall flat. I don't know what the magic is though. Perhaps it's simply the enthusiasm? Maybe it's drawn out dialogue...I'll think on it.

Claymore, Vol. 13 is a continuation of the saga of half human/half monsters called Claymores who are women who have been created to fight monsters called Yoma who kill humans and can't be seen except by Claymores. In this episode, the Claymore continue to hunt out the Yoma and Claymore who have become monsters called the Awakened Ones. The hunt takes place in several locals and the Claymore organize differently depending on who is left after casualties in the battles. Also, a group of Claymore who went into exile have returned to fight. Usually this would make them targets as well and this is another plot line.

The main story in this volume was as good as to be expected, and we got a little more of the plot revealed than was typical. Almost as if to make up for that, rather than 6 regular plot chapters, we got 4 plot chapters and two extra ones that didn't really advance anything, one ocusing on Teresa, and honestly not being particularly good, just a show of her power, and the other not great, but somewhat satisfying (we get it, Ophelia is the single most rotten bitch, I though we were done with her). And honestly those two brought this volume down a star. Back to the main plot I say!

First off, the side stories, need more of them but glad we had some.
The seven ghosts look like a special task force. Love it. They honestly have retained more of their human side than ever after everything that has happened.
Glad to see that the Abyssal Ones are still insanely strong, to the point where they can just barely escape one. But this does raise questions about how they will defeat Priscilla, by the time they meet her again.
