I was born and raised in Philadelphia where I lived a typical childhood with a far more interesting fantasy life. I mean, how many other eight year olds were sticking their Star Wars action figures in Ziploc bags filled with water and putting them in the freezer to recreate the ice planet of Hoth? (Really? That many? Never mind.)

After college, I moved to Los Angeles and was very lucky to get a job as a page at Paramount Pictures only months after I got into town. I worked as a tour guide and usher, and I performed temp office work around the lot.
Eventually, I took a position working in the studio's licensing department where I quickly worked my way up to middle management.

After a while, one of my friends in the publishing industry offered me the opportunity to write a Buffy, The Vampire Slayer short story for a collection she was editing. Well, when I heard how little money I could make as a writer, I immediately quit my job to try it full time. (Stupid, I know, but it kind of worked for me.)

I started out by writing books based on such wonderful TV shows as Star Trek, Roswell, and Sabrina, The Teenage Witch. I have since written over 30 books based some of the best shows on TV, adding The West Wing, Alias, and Prison Break to that ever growing list.

While I continue to work on these media tie-ins, I have also been focused more on my own original fiction, including my teen series DRAMA! and the Simon Pulse Romantic Comedy Love, Hollywood Style.

The comic is enjoyable, but I do not consider it part of the official storyline. Given that the author was not involved in the show, I find it difficult to view it as season 9. For me, everything following Constance Burge's departure feels more like fanfiction.

Constance Burge was essentially pushed out of her own project, while Brad Kern completely derailed her original vision for the show. Constance aimed for a storyline centered on sisterhood and female empowerment, but Brad transformed Charmed into a series focused on male heirs, revealing outfits, and bizarre transformations. Instead of a captivating tale about strong sisterly witches, the show morphed into a lackluster Harry Potter knockoff.

I adore the first few seasons; they are truly iconic. I'll share the common opinion among fans - Cole deserved better. If you know, you know.

As I previously stated, the comics are enjoyable, but it's important to note that they should not be considered as a direct continuation of the official storyline.

First I just finished watching the Complete Series. Which brought a longing for more even though they tied the story up with a nice bow. I would love to see them go on to the children taking over. I have one complaint this being a comic they took many liberties with the character drawings.
So this is not a pick it up right where they left off but at least a few years later than season 8. The demons have been quiet long enough to make the sisters miss their calling. And an old familiar trouble is on the horizon.
But who is pulling his strings?
This is a must read for fans of the series and it is said that these comics are how the story would evolve.

Do you remember that TV show about three sisters who discovered they were descendants of a long line of witches? You know, the three sisters who were known as the Power of Three? You know, that show called Charmed? Well, the spellbinding series continues as graphic novels.

I was so excited when I heard that Charmed was going to be continued in graphic novel format.

In the first volume of season 9, the Charmed ones' first innocent - when Prue was around - they save is dead. And she appears to look the age she had been turned after being captured by Javna on the second episode. Never mind, The Power of Three is here...

Season 9 picks up roughly 18 months after the last episode of the television series, which puts us in the middle of the happy endings glimpsed at the end of the “Forever Charmed.” During this demon-free period the sisters have all been busy leading normal lives and having babies. The comic opens with two of those babies displaying the first of her powers and the initial stirrings of demonic forces. You know, your typical beginnings for a new season.

In a lot of ways the comic retains much of the feel of the television series. He may not have been part of the show, but Ruditis shows a wonderful grasp of the show’s continuity, which is saying a lot given how wacky the show was at times. There are little things such as Piper whining about how her life can’t be normal, assorted jokes that attempt to be witty and are almost funny, and, of course, shots of Phoebe’s assets. But what really stood out to me was that the freedom of the comic medium allows for the series to sort of get back to its roots. For instance, not only do the sisters get a boost in their active powers, but the demons actually look like, well, demons again! That includes the new (several times over) Source.

Overall the story is above par for what I expect from an episode of the show, but it starts off very slowly. It’s not until the fourth chapter (“Mortal Enemies”) that there is any real action. That isn’t completely abnormal for the show, which often kept the action limited to the third act, but I expect a bit more going on in a comic format. The first chapter (“Charmed Lives”) is little more than a glimpse at the domestic lives of the sisters with some bad guys plotting stuff thrown in. I think I also have a slight problem with how easy The Source was taken out even though they’ve battled him numerous times before. But maybe it just feels easy since the preparation for and the actual battle are condensed into their own chapter (“Unnatural Resources”). I did like that the sisters had a few side stories of their own, like Paige’s new charge, Piper’s restaurant location search and Phoebe’s presiding over a mass wedding ceremony that included Romeo and Juliet. These B plots are usually my least favorite parts of an hour long episode, but in the new medium they don’t overtake the story to the same extent. Or maybe they’re just handled better.

The design of the comic is kind of baffling to me. The characters are often very hard for me to differentiate between. Part of this is certainly due to my color blindness, but the designs themselves don’t give much help. The initial artist is replaced after the third chapter (“Innocents Lost”) and there is a distinct difference in the art. Most notably, the color palette changes from something out of a Berenstain Bears book to a style that’s much easier on the eyes. Unfortunately, while the sisters are more recognizable, I had an extremely difficult time telling the husbands apart with this new artist. There are some wacky things that deserve mention like the random cover designs and odd posing of the Charmed Ones. The new format does allow for a distinct rise in the level of violence shown, albeit it’s minimal. I’m interested to see if this will translate into more elaborate action pieces in later books. It’s still very early into the comic, though so I’m happy enough to say that the art does improve with each chapter.

The comic itself is pretty accessible to those unfamiliar with the show, and the graphic novel includes pages from the Book of Shadows; this prequel chapter (“The Sourcebook”) serves as a basic introduction to the Charmedverse. Though, given the slow start I don’t know if I would have stuck out the waiting if I had read this issue by issue, especially if I had never seen the television series. I do think that Ruditis handles the material better than the show’s writers did in many cases and he’s set up an intriguing enough mystery with Neena that I’m willing to continue reading future volumes and see where he goes.

{Notes}

*First and foremost, nothing can compare to the Charmed television series. I'm a huge fan of the series, and when I learned there was a graphic novel continuation, I was absolutely ecstatic. Ordered the first one immediately, and ripped open the package the moment it got here.

*To be honest, I was a little underwhelmed. For only being 154 pages long, it felt like way too much happened. Maybe I'm used to the pacing of the show, but the graphic novel was just breakneck speed. I think I may even have whiplash!

*The writing is obviously not on par. The writer didn't seem to fully grasp the dialogue that makes these girls so appealing. They all pretty much sounded the same, and even though I tried to do the voices in my head, it just left me a little flat.

*The plot was also just kind of WTF? *SPOILER ALERT* Everything's fine. POOF! The Source is back. POOF! Everyone is evil and out to get them. POOF! They come up with the perfect plan. KABOOM. The Source is dead. Again. Insert mystery evil plan, revealing that the Source was only a pawn in a great scheme. Yeah. A scheme greater than the literal SOURCE of all evil, which evil cannot exist without, even if it's not currently residing in a host body. NO SENSE. And all in 154 pages.

*But the most important part of any graphic novel is, obviously, the art. The first volume has two artists, and I'm kind of torn. Obviously the cover for the first volume is amazing. But I'm torn between the two main artists. I appreciated the style and coloring of the first three chapters, with only the occasional element of realism towards the actresses thrown in - just enough to figure out who was who. They were similar, but with the artist's own touch. Though, I did not agree with Paige's red hair, or a lot of the clothing choices. Piper does not wear belly shirts people! Not to mention that little Melinda looked like a bobblehead doll, and Chris and Wyatt's heights were way off for their age. Artist loved some flip flops too! Still, I preferred this stylistically over chapters four and five. I think the artist maybe tried a little too hard to make the girls look like the actresses, but still put his own spin on it. It resulted in a lot on inconsistent features the first artist did not have. Best part, however, was the replica Book of Shadows in the beginning. All those spells, and recaps, and bios! I loved it!

*This is also a very boobalicious graphic novel. I understand that comics and graphic novels are dominated by male readers, but Charmed was a pretty female dominated show. It's all about girl power. Now, I appreciate a pretty piece of art, but the girls should not be looking like superheroes with latex-tight shirts and jeans, and boobs up to their chins. They're normal women! But I doubt that's something that will change, and it's just a personal pet peeve more than anything. Also, who decided to have the new villainess look like she just came from a ho-down? Red, tied button-up and cut off jean shorts? Seriously? All she needed was a pair of cowboy boots and a hat.

*Overall, I was underwhelmed. I had a lot of complaints. So why did I rate it so high? Because it's Charmed, and I will always be biased. I will always love it, not matter how god awful it is. I will keep buying these things until they stop making them, because I want to keep the Charmed Ones alive as long as possible.

Charmed was one of my favourite TV shows (and probably still is today) and the continuation of it in comic form was great! I liked the story and things happened just like they would in an episode.

What I thought could and should have been done a lot better was the artwork, especially the drawings of the characters. I should at least be able to tell which character is which!

I could definitely picture this being apart of the television show. The only problem I had with this comic was I was not impressed how the sister's were drawn.

I am 14 years late to the party but tbf this comic itself followed many years too late after the official finale. I basically grew up with Charmed, so my star rating makes no sense for someone outside the fan cult 🤓, but I really enjoyed it despite the cringy drawing style, very typical for most American superhero comics. The plot is very much in the spirit of a typical episode, but yk, as logic-free and sexy top-oriented, too. 😄 The intro was pretty boring, but then I liked how the action part picked up in the middle, and then there was a very rushed underwhelming happy end, so not sure how I’m feeling overall about this — will read on the next issues. It’s all considered canon, and the story does agree with how these characters would progress in my mind. Still, I’m mourning the lost opportunity to correct the male gaze-based writing from the original series and annoying plot holes.

The Halliwell sisters are enjoying quiet time with their families until the Source gets brought back (again!)

The story was ok. It would have been maybe 2 episodes on tv. The art was confusing at times. I could not tell Piper from Phoebe…and forget distinguishing Coop, Leo, and Henry.

As a major Charmed fan, I was so excited when I found out that the series had continued on in comic book form. I've had the book sitting on my shelf for ages and finally got round to picking it up and marathoning it with the first three volumes of season nine. It's just been like switching on the TV and watching the episodes and characters I've always known and loved!

Picking up where the season 8 finale gave a glimpse at, this volume is a bind up of the first seven comics of season 9. It follows the sisters living a relatively normal life, raising their magical children. Phoebe is still writing for the Bay Mirror. Paige is spending her time on her charges, and teaching at Magic School. Piper is working her way towards owning her own restaurant. And Leo is teaching at Magic School. Everything is going swimmingly until they attend the funeral of Brittany, the innocent they saved from the demon Javna, and their innocent as the Charmed Ones. They soon realise that the Underworld is on the move and a new power is rising up, attempting to destroy the Charmed Ones once and for all - what's new? They protect all of their innocents and call on the powers of all White Magic in order to stop the new Source of all Evil.

As soon as I opened this book, I was instantly hooked. The characters felt familiar, exactly how I remember them from the show (which I haven't watched for a while) and the storylines flowed how they would have on the show. The writing and the art had me feeling as if I were actually watching a whole new season, and it was great to be back in the presence of these characters.

On several occasions I laughed out loud, because I could totally imagine the characters I'd grown up with on the show acting and saying everything that was happening. Paul has managed to capture the essence of the show, the characters and their world within these comics and continue their story on. I loved the continuity and that the stories made sure to include the history of the series, rather than just creating a new story.

Having already read this book a couple of years ago, the drama did fall a little flat this time around on me, but I still really enjoyed it and can see it setting up the rest of season nine.

I highly recommend this book for Charmed fans as it's a wonderful way to continue the series. You will instantly connect with the characters and feel like you'd never said goodbye.

I found this a couple of weeks ago at a used bookstore and even though that I was not done with watching the series on DVD, I went ahead and bought it so that when I did finish the TV show, I could jump right into this.
Back when "Charmed" debuted, I had no interest in watching the series, but years later, a friend was collecting the series and bribed me into watching the first season. After getting mildly interested, I discovered that she only had seasons 1-3 and no intention of buying the rest. This lead to me buying the 4th season for myself, but after starting it I was lost. Needless to say, I ended up with the first 3 seasons and finally rounded out the whole series when I found a collected set of seasons 5-8 at Wal-Mart. So, for much of 2015 and all of 2016, I have been watching "Charmed" in between breaks from other, better loved TV shows.
I stumbled across this graphic at the right time and out of fear that the season finale might leave me hanging, I purchased this volume with no idea of what it was about as I didn't really read the back to avoid possible spoilers since I was only on season 5 at the time.
I liked the bright, vibrant colors that were used throughout the volume. For the most part, there were clean lines and some decent detailing. I didn't care for the fact that the girls didn't look as much like their TV counterparts as one would expect. The guys were especially hard to tell apart, not so much that they were drawn just alike, but rather they looked even less like the actors than the females. I preferred the art of Dave Hoover from the first 3 issues more so than the last 2 issues done by Marico Abreu. Hoover had cleaner lines and better faces, as well as detailing. Abreu had a thing for that "painted" look that I am not a fan of. His faces weren't as detailed but his backgrounds were ok.
I liked the introduction that was included, with a look back on the 8 "years' of the Charmed Ones, with a peek at parts of the Book of Shadows. I can see how a refresher course would be helpful for someone that hadn't watched the show in awhile. The story-line was fitting for the "Charmed" universe and I felt that the dialog had been ripped straight from the tv show. It was easier to tell which witch was which more so by her lines than her looks.
Overall, I enjoyed reading this. The bonus story at the end had nice art by Novo Malgapo and was interesting all of itself. I don't see myself ordering vol.2 from Amazon tonight, but I will be on the lookout for it each time I am digging through the shelves at 2nd & Charles.

I started re-watching Charmed the T.V show again recently & remembered that I still hadn't read this-Despite having had it for ages!
It didn't take me long to read, once I got used to the style-As I haven't read a Comic Book in ages!
I love the imagery-The Book of Shadows catch up in the beginning is great & the second Artist, Marcio Abreu, is my favourite out of the 2 main Artists featured. As the characters resemble the actresses a bit more & the style is more realistic-Especially body wise!
The plot was just like an episode of the T.V show, as was the dialogue-Corny moments {From both sides} & all!
I also enjoyed the Bonus Prelude Story & the Cover Gallery at the end. I love the Issue 2 Cover A Wraparound by Greg Horn-Beautiful!
I'm blatantly biased, as I love all things Charmed, but this is still a great Comic Book!

Watched 8 seasons of Charmed in 2 weeks, so what's more natural than diving headfirst into the graphic novel continuation of the series?

Season 9 picks up 18 months after the end of the show, with a bunch of new toddlers and of course new (and old) enemies. Honestly, the toddler part, I would have liked to see how it developed (i mean the pregnancy and stuff) but anyway.

I particularly love the artwork of the covers, because it most closely resembles the actual actors and actresses of the show.

I enjoyed this one far more the second time around. The drawings are pretty well done, the story develops slowly, so that it remains unclear who the big bad of season 9.1 actually is. I liked the pacing, the humor and the action.
The volume ends with a surprise twist and cliffhanger, so I'm eager to learn more about the character of Neena.

3.5/5

I'm a long standing fan of the TV-show and re-watch it almost every year. This year, I learned of the comics that stand as the official season 9 and 10 of the series.
I've been putting of even thinking about reading them, as one of the problems I ended up having with the show were the endless prophesies, and I learned there would be a twist in season 10 that made me groan.
But, stuck in bed as I am and wanting to watch the show again, I took a chance and bought the first volume of Season 9. (It seem to be out of production, though, but they have it on kindle, so I bought it there and read it on my computer to get the colors.)

Now, I have a bit of mixed feelings.
Mostly, they managed to capture the characters and feel of the show. I found the story interesting but overused until the twist toward the end.
So, I am interested in reading the rest of the season, but if that stay true through the next volumes, time will have to tell.

I had some trouble with the art-style, though, finding it kind of generic and flat, and at times really hard to tell the difference between the characters. This was something I was prepared for, though, as I'd seen a few pages by searching on google.

I was also a little annoyed at the fact that in 18 months, all the girls had become pregnant and birthed another girl. Why did they have to rush it like that? That story-line could easily have gone during the season, as it did with Piper in the main show. But, alas, breeding seems to be the best sign that everything is alright and that a woman is happy, which is a cliche, but used here...

Charmed Season 9 Volume 1
PLOT: Charmed Season 9 Volume 1 is a continuation of the popular hit show Charmed which focuses on the lives of sisters Phoebe, Piper, Prue, and Paige. These comics take place months after the season finale of Season 8.

MY THOUGHTS: I enjoyed Charmed and was excited when I saw on the Charmed Wikia that it was continued into a comic book series and finally came upon some of the issues (which took time). While the issues stayed true to the series there was something a little lackluster for me and I didn't get out of them what I thought I would. It's interesting to see what life is like after the Power of Three but the new threats introduced and the reformation of the Source just didn't do for me flipping pages what it did for me as watching it. The story was a ok read, but it was nothing to rave over for me. Then there was the artwork, which started out okay, but by the end of the issues, I read got horrible! I am a artist so I can only describe it as what looked like laziness. It was hard at times to tell which sister was which. The kids looked unrealistic and just plain ugly at times and telling the difference between Coop, Henry, and Leo was a unwinnable challenge. But since this is just the start of the series I will continue to read it and hopefully, there will be improvements as it goes forward. I'm not giving up on it.

RATING: I give it 5 stars. It's decent but could stand some improvement.”

Mini review time! Set after the show, this volume deals with the Charmed Ones trying to have a normal life. As usual, that doesn't work out for them. They've been able to start the families they so desperately wanted but they're not entirely safe. They haven't had to deal with demons for a long time, but that changes when two new foes bring back an old one. This is a great start to the "season": the women have children of their own that are coming into their powers, their careers are going strong, and their powers are advancing at a time when an unknown foe begins to move against them. I really enjoyed it. Reading it brought back how much I loved the show.

I enjoyed the story lines for each chapter, but I was a little thrown by the art. Some of it wasn't the greatest--I honestly couldn't tell Henry and Leo apart and sometimes I wasn't sure if I was looking at Phoebe or Piper. Later on the chapters got better and more detailed, so I'm not sure if the artist changed?

In any case, these are definitely very enjoyable if you're a fan of the show! I recommend it for the continuation!

I realize that I just read this in March of this year, but I recently discovered that volume 2 was running anywhere from $54, all the way up to $278 on Amazon, so I doubt that I will be reading anymore of the series. Before I traded my copy of volume 1 in, I just wanted to flip back through it to make sure that I didn't want to keep it. I ended up simply reading the whole thing again and decided "yeah, I can part with this."
I wasn't the biggest fan of the show, as I stated in my original review, but I did enjoy it, just later than most. The graphic seems like a good way to extend the series in a way and I can see why so many people are crazy about it. As with most tv shows that expand into graphics, there are issues with artwork and the overall look of the characters, but Charmed handled it better than some.
I actually dropped a star from my previous rating as I just didn't enjoy it as much this time around.
I would't mind reading more of the series, but with that hefty price-tag, I think I can live without it.

I really enjoyed the storyline and being with everyone like before it read just like an episode or two of the series and that's what I wanted. The characters read so much like each other it felt really authentic to me especially Paige and Piper. However, I had a lot of issues with the artwork. It really wasn't at all consistent throughout the volume, I liked some more than others. The main style of the majority of the panels wasn't even that they didn't look like the sisters that much, it was more so how I couldn't differentiate Piper and Pheobe in most of them. They were drawn so similarly, it was easy to get mixed up. I found that to be so irritating throughout my read and when you combine that with the art style literally changing sometimes, it was a bit distracting, to say the least. Overall though I still really enjoyed it and will be continuing.

Eh, I wasn't a fan of this. Over the past year or so I watched all 8 seasons of the show, and when I saw it was continued in comic form I decided to give them a try. I've just got to say that it wasn't for me. It just didn't feel the same. I know they couldn't really go into as much depth as they did in the show, but it just didn't work. I'll always love the sisters, but Ill just have to leave them where season 8 ended.

The art style was really... something. I do not understand why some comic books are drawn the way they are. Completely took away from my enjoyment of revisiting this world after so long. Felt like the art had absolutely no understanding of its characters (especially Piper, holy shit). It got better after issue 3, though, when artists changed.

The plots in these first few issues felt a bit introductory, a bit perfunctory. Good thing they get better in the later volumes.
