When the battle is finally far behind him, Sir Minalan the Spellmonger makes a quick detour to Wilderhall to select his new domain, learn how to be a noble, and then claim his pregnant bride -- it's time to start his well-deserved Happily Ever After, and he can't wait.
But along the way down the river he stops to buy a bag of smoke and discovers that he might be receiving some unexpected guests at his wedding. After everything he's been through, he's not about to let his bride's one perfect day be ruined. And he's willing to start a peasant's rebellion to protect it, if he has to.
With the power of the Witchsphere now in his hands, and with the help of family and friends, he can't take a chance that something will go amiss -- because he's worked too hard for it, fought too long for it, and because you just can't get your deposits back easily in a feudal economy.
Join Min as he, Pentandra, Alya, Tyndal, and the rest of his family contend with unexpected guests, welcome and unwelcome, in this prequel to Magelord!

Before i found the short stories or novellas.... There were events reffered to in the series that. I kept expecting the author to flash back to. The expected flash backs never came so things like the wedding and the events surrounding it seemed rediculously glossed over.
Wife hostage or threatened... Sir Cei becoming castellan .... even the riverfolk (the Loblolly especially)....well they never seemed to be explained. At first, I assumed this was some sort of device for later entanglement of later events into the story - sort of a "Tell You Later --> Oh Hey remember that Story I Promised? Well It Fits With NOW".
- Quote: “There’s only one boat, even if you only sit on one side of it,” he explained. “But if there’s a hole in the boat, it doesn’t matter if it’s on her side or your side . . . there’s still a hole in the boat.” - Thoughts: An interesting and light short story, without goblin slaying or dead gods. To be read before Magelord ▶◀ These are my personal opinions, you may discord, my final rating of the book is not necessarily linked to this system and may diverge from it. I must admit I was a touch confused whilst reading the main Spellmonger series going from one book to another expecting to find details of the wedding only to find it was a done deal. On top of that it got referenced occasionally. Regardless it’s a lovely story that fills in some gaps in this captivating series.
Another installment full of character, wit, and magic
Having been a follower/reader since the first book, this book establishes a solid groundwork for The Spellmonger arriving in Savandor. As usual the characters and dialog are well developed and entertaining.
Probably should have been tagged onto Victory Soup short or started up The Honeymoon novella, as it was such a short short. It was amusing in places and was good to see Min's homecoming and his reuniting with his pregnant bride (although that could have been more emotional). Just a filler.
short story after victory soup. Important information to the plot so mandatory reading. I didn't find this as gripping as some of the others, but it's a fairly short read so you'll get onto the honeymoon in the next short story.
