I've been in the mood for tragedic romance and this book is perfect.

Old review:

The story starts off with Harriet and Arthur madly in love. They've just announced their engagement to their families before Arthur has to return to the Navy. While he's gone , Arthur's family are preparing Harriet to take her place in society. Harriet is very wary of them. She knows they disapprove of her and wanted Arthur to marry his cousin. Knowing this, Arthur had the forethought to send his best friend to watch over her.

Unfortunately, Harriet's happiness comes to an end when she learns that Arthur has been killed in action. The devastated Harriet is sent to her Aunt's cousin to recover. What Harriet doesn't know is that both families have conspired to keep the lovers apart.

Harriet has been sent to a Captain who smuggles women. The only reason she is still alive is because the Captain's wife finds her useful but that's soon to come to an end. While escaping, a carriage pulls up and Arthur steps out to rescue her. The lovers are finally reunited. But what has happen in the year since they've been separated?

The heartbroken Arthur was told Harriet ran off with her lover. It isn't till later that he starts to question what he's been told. Now he has his love back and he will never allow anyone to separate them again. The problem is is that someone is still trying to destroy them. They will soon find out how elaborate the conspiracy real is.

This story has many twist and turns. There were surprises I never saw coming. I highly recommend this book but just be prepared to cry 😢 !

Harriett, a young woman with a gift for visions, suffers the loss of her betrothed and is quickly disposed of by her aunt and uncle. Naturally, things are not as they appear (not sorry for the cheap pun) and Harriett must rely on her visions as a blessing and not as a curse.

Okay, this is my first foray with Colleen Connally and her work. I do not usually like to mix my historical romances with the paranormal. It works in it's own way, but the premonitions seemed more of an easy plot device. If supernatural elements are your bag, then this book is for you. I really enjoyed the pacing, the writing, and the multi-layed mystery that spanned generations.

Colleen Connally's engaging plots, distinctive characters with perfect composite of heart, and cleverness. She has a subtle way of playing your emotions that it's hard for the readers to put the book down.

Harriet and Arthur's fate entwined, somehow is doom to fail. Is it a curse, perhaps?

I feel in love with Harriet's character a tough young lady, who's willing to correct her mistakes and forget her past. She has a trustful heart, which one of her vulnerability that gave her justification to stand back and fought of what hers for the future.

Ms. Connally has done it again. This book in particular is one of my favorites. It pulls you in with it's mystery and somewhere you just fall in love with the characters. It's hard to not lose yourself in the era. As the story builds to a conclusion you are sad to see it come to an end. Highly recommend to lovers of all things romance, slightly paranormal, and historical....as well as suspense readers of this genre. Good stuff inside!

Great love story!

Old story of boy meets girl, boy goes off to war, girl told boy is dead, girl runs away, boy returns. Throw in girl has the ability to see into the future. So many people are out to get her. Will she end up with boy? This was a very well written period piece. Well worth the reading time.

Four stars!

I really liked the paranormal aspect of this story. The love story was good, although a little long winded. However, the mystery part of the story was best of all I thought.

I liked it a lot. Fun mystery and interesting , well developed characters. Not as good as the first 2 book in series was still good. Gave 3 1/2 stars for the type of book it was.

Seductive Lies is a continuation of the Secret Lives series. I did not feel like I was missing anything essential although I can honestly say, this book was written far better than a previous historical romance I read from the same author. In Seductive Lies, the characters come with a rawness about them that makes reading their stories appealing.

Colleen Connally creates a story that deals with the heart, mind and emotions. If you like historical romances, Seductive Lies is worth reading. Its powerful theme of love, moving on and doing what is correct but not necessarily right will have you captivated.

I like a story that takes me (the reader) on a journey back in time. Seductive Lies brought me back to Victorian England, when if a woman done wrong, (or her family), she was shunned and ostracized from society. This story had my hackles up and made me want to punch Arthur right in the head. I loved it! I was on the edge of my seat at times, and teary eyed at others.
I would love to read the story of James when it is ready! I just love a self confident, determined, arrogant and sexy man who's had the rug pulled out from beneath him. I HIGHLY recommend this book to those searching to leave this realm for a simpler time of romance, suspense, and diabolical intrigue!

It was a very intense story for probably what would be labelled as a bodice ripper. I did not like the hero of the story for quite a while as he was rather selfish in his needs and wants and the heroine was a little too selfless.

It had a good storyline otherwise, with twists and turns and skullduggery :D A thing at the end annoyed me though, without saying for it would be a big spoiler, the heroine rather selfishly decided to keep a key bit of information about someone to herself just because she wanted to avoid scandal to her husbands family, it was a secret that could have been kept within the family and therefore have avoided it anyway.

I received this book in return of an honest review. I do not usually care for historical romances with paranormal twists; LOVED this one! Colleen kept my attention the whole time.
I thought this would be a straight forward he or she did it and let us have our happy ever after. Nope, had to follow all the twists and turns to the very end!
Colleen thank you for a wonderful book and can't wait to read more of your works.
