There's a mystery in Bear Country, and Actual Factual is just the bear to solve it. Dr. Zoltan Bearish plays nemesis to Actual Factual and the cubs in this Bear Country hugger-mugger, involving faked fossils, phony discoveries and a scandal that threatens to dash the reputation of estimable Professor Actual Factual before it's all through.
Stan and Jan Berenstain (often called The Berenstains) were American writers and illustrators best known for creating the children's book series the Berenstain Bears. Their son Mike Berenstain joined them as a creative team in the late 1980s.
The Bear family is back with more adventures from Bear Country. What’s that about a skeleton of a new dinosaur found in Bear Country? What’s that about a school swimming pool and coed swim classes p? Read and found out.
Great for reading to younger children as reading skills are built. Should also satisfy those going well into the middle grades.
Just finished reading this with my five-year-old granddaughter during our Saturday Zoom reading sessions. She's a big Berenstain Bears fan. I wasn't sure if she was ready for a chapter book without many pictures, but she enjoyed it and asked me to find another one to begin reading next week. She really liked the mystery and the humor scattered throughout the book. I liked that it prompted her to think about the sciences. All in all, a good read with her!
This is an enjoyable book for young children just beginning to read chapter books. The value of being able to solve problems with deep thinking is demonstrated. The issues of greed and revenge, good vs evil, and how interesting science can be are all present in this short book about dinosaur fossils and fraud.
This e book version is based on the 1999 book version of the same title. The authors have published more than 250 books in this series with the beloved Berenstain bears. I really enjoyed this book. As a bonus it includes an excerpt from The Berenstain Bears and the Phenom in the Family.
At the beginning of the tale we encounter Ralph Ripoff relaxing at home when the doorbell rings. The door opens to reveal that Professor Zoltan Bearish has come to make a proposal. It appears that this is a very unlikely and strange relationship. The Professor is a well respected chemistry professor at the Bearsonian Institution. Why is he coming to engage Ralph Ripoff, the notorious swindler in a scheme? Simply because Zoltan wants revenge! Actual Factual recently had him fired from his position for what Zoltan considered a trivial reason. The reader learns that the well known dinosaur expert, Professor Factual has been searching for years to complete a T-Rex skeleton in the rotunda of the Bearsonian. Zoltan’s plans include faking the discovery of an even greater find, that of a giant dinosaur skeleton. He asks Ralph to find other accomplices and stage a fake digging discovery. Ralph is bothered by this because he does not want to hurt the reputation of an innocent man, but his love of profit wins out over his conscience. Zoltan manages to persuade Ralph and the swindle is staged. One year later after he is no longer in danger of being arrested for fraud, Zoltan will reveal that the discovery was a fraud by using chemical analysis. One of the bones is marked by a chemical symbol known only to himself.
Plans do not go smoothly. The bear cubs are on a school trip when they notice something amiss in the desert, a large truck and some digging near Sandcrab Jones’ small house in the desert. They persuade Papa Bear to drive out to the desert to investigate. But the family lock themselves out of the car. A tour bus visiting the dinosaur discovery site rescues them, and affords them the opportunity to look around the discovery site.. Finally, the day for the sale and unveiling of the reconstructed skeleton arrives. Professor Actual Factual will be paying five million dollars for the skeleton. Will the fraud be discovered? If so, how will the culprits be discovered and punished. There are several surprises and unexpected events in store for the reader. This nearly seventy five page chapter book will appeal to children who are dinosaur lovers, detective story enthusiasts, and of course, Berenstain Bear followers.
I hadn't read a Berenstain Bears book in years so this was a reminder of how much I used to love these as a young kid. In this particular story we come across a revenge scheme to cost a professor his reputation and job by selling him a fabricated skeleton of an unknown dinosaur bigger than an actual T Rex. But the Berenstain Bears sense that this great discovery that has been made may be more than it seems and set out to find out if G Rex is a fraud in time or will the professor buy the dinosaur before they can.
While obviously not written for an adult I just didn't enjoy it. Perhaps there are some things from childhood that are past left to the past where every book was a new adventure and every page golden.
This is the 1st Berenstain Bears book I've read. It's called a 'big chapter' book, is aimed at/for young readers. I was actually kind of surprised at all the references to real, modern daily life...all which might've earned a smile/smirk from this adult reader! And I was pleasantly surprised to see that this book (maybe all of these do this?) offers some learning opportunities too...something I always appreciate in any book I read. I'd think my nieces/nephews might enjoy these books.
I enjoyed this book so much. These bears are hoot. The chapters are short enough to hold a child's attention...even an adult's attention. The story was easy to follow. I lo forward to sharing this with my grandson.
An enjoyable book for childern of all ages. Also a good book to read aload to children that have not yet learned to read. Teaches them to tell the truth and the way to decide what's real or fake.
Read this to my little boy recently. I think they tried to fit too much in one story. The ending is pretty anti-climactic. I did get it for free from B&N.
A Berenstain Bears chapter book where the Bears work together to uncover a dinosaur hoax. I was able to download this e-book for free from B&N and it fitted my need for a light read.
