A truly outstanding short horror story collection by an author I have never read before...but will certainly do again. These are quite intelligent,very dark in parts and each story is linked in some way. There is so much to mention from mad pyschopathic grannies, live underground burials, end of the world scenarios and my all time favourite a demented clown/children's entertainer. I particularly loved this character Freddy Yurple the clown, just turned 51 and hates his life, hates his ex wife, drinks too much and loathes the little brats he has to perform his routine for...but today will be different! " He felt the part now, and was ready to perform. He slipped the belt full of ammunition around his waist, and slung the bag of hand grenades over his shoulder. The M16 and sawn off shotgun were already loaded, and he filled the remaining pockets of his jacket with as much extra ammo as would fit.There was a knock on the door, then a voice, gone as quickly as it arrived..."Yurple. Showtime".....
You take a risk when reading something by a new author especially a collection of ideas and happenings in one volume. I was amazed by the quality and writing of each and every story and I have no hesitation in giving it my highest recommendation!!

WOW...I just finished DARK CORNERS by Michael Bray, and I have to tell you: this guy is going to be a superstar in the horror fiction world. If you’ve never heard of him, don’t be ashamed; his first book just debuted last year. But I would wager you will soon hear his name more and more as buzz builds up about his work. DARK CORNERS showcases 12 of his short stories, and they do not disappoint!
When I finished this collection, I sat in my recliner for a moment with a huge smile on my face. These stories entertain on many levels, but they also leave a nice tinge of terror imbedded in the reader’s brain. There are a couple of stories that I’m still dwelling on, thanks to their intense nature and/or horrific imagery.
The tales in DARK CORNERS are all written very well. They have a smooth, flowing style that never distracts from the story and thus allows for full sensory immersion into the scenes as they play out. Bray is a powerful storyteller and has a keen ability to focus equally on characterization and detail in his settings while he sets the stage for the terrifying outcomes that ultimately await in each story.
I tore through this book in about two days and loved every minute of it. I was particularly surprised yet very pleased to note that all of the stories are intertwined in some way. This is sometimes subtle and sometimes blatant, but the realization when it occurs prompts an “Aha!” moment from within the reader.
If I were forced to pick a favorite story from DARK CORNERS, I don’t think I could; they’re all too good. But one of my favorites is titled “That Gnawing Feeling”. In this story, a man’s ex-girlfriend and best friend attempt to get rid of him in order to take his inheritance. But they don’t expect him to survive their attempt at murder...and in turn, take his own revenge.
My sole complaint about this collection is the way one of the stories, “The Box”, ended. There was too much vagueness for me, and I found myself mildly disappointed. This in NO WAY is a deterrent from reading the book and you should definitely check the story out for yourself to make your own decision.
DARK CORNERS is an excellent collection of horror and I highly recommend it. Give this a look for sure.

This journey through the macabre and Hell was a week-long feast of gore, terror, hell, demonic debauchery, you name it. Additionally for a week straight, I struggled to sleep, either because I was completely hooked on one of Bray's twisted tales, or I was apprehensive that one of his diabolical creations was going to materialize through the walls and carry me off.
SPOILER ALERT
To be honest, when I began reading the first story, I was not in love with it. The character himself was smoothly laid out, humorously sardonic, and yes it was pretty horrifying what happens to him. It was interesting that Bray explored a scenario where someone would be transformed into what we understand to be a Zombie. I like zombies, however I craved for an exploration into scenarios that remained unexplored, and I worried that the zombie scenario was a precursor for other stories that might go down the road towards conventional. Fortunately, I was not disappointed. Going through these stories, the mind of a serial killer is explored, the creation of demons is revealed, sexual pleasures that are deemed nightmarish to society are described as complete delights. There are moments where the reader can't help but join in on the side of the demonic, but then will suddenly be revolted enough that the reader is back to being horrified. Additionally, I loved the way the stories seemed to all connect, and by the book's end I was slightly disappointed that there wasn't one final story that tied EVERYTHING together. However, there being twelve varying tales, that would be next to impossible and I think Bray does an excellent job with having some of his tales bleed into others. All in all, i enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone who wants a good scare and a few stomach jerks. I give it a 4 out of 5 suns!

This was a pretty decent group of horror stories. What I liked in this book that some of the same characters appeared in other stories, which made it interesting. These short stories have been to compared to very early Stephen King. These are well thought out although some are a bit predictable; and some end that leave you hanging (although you can figure out what happened).
For a nice, enjoyable horror story on a cold night, this is a great book!

This is a thrilling and varied short story collection with some fantastically written stories. I found Michael's writing very easy to read and his style felt very visual to me, I could picture the story unfolding in my head effortlessly. Each tale grabbed you by the arm and pulled you readily to its bloody conclusion.

Plain and simple: Dark Corners by Michael Bray is one of the greatest short story books that I've ever read. The fact that there are small connections among the stories but not to the extent that they are classic and dull makes the book more enjoyable and the transitions between the stories fresher.
As others pointed, the writing style (opening, development, conclusions, etc.) reminds you of Stephen King (hence the inspiration section in his page); this is not a bad thing though, not the slightest, contrary to what we can see in some King-wannabe-writers' books. Even though in the similar vein, you can feel the uniqueness of Mr. Bray's style.

Dark Corners – Twelve Tales of Terror is a collection of short horror stories. The first story, Observation Room 5, is about a man who is quarantined in a hospital after being the victim of an attack that causes his body to transform strangely. Each story is creepy and, at some points, they interconnect.
In all honestly, I couldn't find anything to dislike about this book. If you like a really good and gritty horror, this one is for you.

Another great read
Michael bray has such a fantastic talent. This book was such a great read. I didn't realize until about the third story that the characters intertwine through each story. A mix of demonic storiz, paranormal stories... this is why michael bray has become one of my favorite authors

This is a fantastic read! Very impressed!. I am a big fan of Stephen King and though I could say it's somewhere in that area, I am going to say that soon people will say "in the style of Michael Bray"...Loved it.

I liked how the author linked some of the stories together with the different characters. That was a cool touch. Sometimes I felt like he went too quickly to the gore and didn't work on the story as much. Overall, there was some cool stories in there.

It's annoying to read a book that hasn't been properly edited. Misspelled words, missing punctuation, and jumbled sentences really take away from the experience of this book. There are some good -- and even excellent -- ideas here. It should be cleaned up and edited properly.
