Greek Myth #2

The Oracle of Delphi

Rate this book
Perseus, demi-god and son of Zeus is on a mission to save his mother's life. He needs to behead Medusa and bring it back to the evil king of Seriphus in a fortnight, or his mother will lose her life.

Princess Andromeda is on a mission of her own. Once thought to be the successor to The Oracle of Delphi, she bravely sits atop the throne over the pit of knowledge in trickery, to get an answer from the oracle herself. She is to be sacrificed to a sea serpent in order to save her village and the oracle tells her only the demi-god Perseus can slay the beast.

When Perseus seeks out the oracle in order to find the abode of Medusa, the feisty Princess Andromeda tries to trick him to go on a quest of her own. But Perseus has no time to lose in the mission of saving his mother.

Shadows of doubt linger and it is certain someone will lose their life with one wrong choice, in The Oracle of Delphi.

This is one of the better-know stories of the Greek myths. Perseus, the demi-god son of Zeus and Princess Andromeda of Thessaly. Both of them have been subjects of prophesy from the Oracle of Delphi and are rebelling against their fate.

Perseus has been fated to be the cause of his grandfather, the King of Argos’ death. So he and his mother have been hiding on a small island. He is frustrated and bored as he tries to control his demi-god abilities. Until his uncle King Poldetes orders him to bring back the head of Medusa.

Andromeda, due to her father boasting of her beauty has angered the sea god, Nereus who now demands she be sacrificed to him. Trying to prevent this she runs away, back to the Oracle.

All that sounds like it’d be interesting doesn’t it? But some of it was so silly and ridiculous that I had a hard time following the actual story.

Footnote: 1) Even if we don’t know the actual details, it’s nice to have the stuff between the main myths be filled in making them more real.

Fave scenes: the Oracle speaking to Andromeda, the hornet nest, tricking the Gorgons and Apollo’s help.

Interesting idea, but the romance had almost zero organic development and some of the early "steamy" scenes were laughable.

There have been a number of adaptions of the tale of Perseus and Andromeda, one of the better-known stories in Greek mythology. The adventure, action, and danger in defeating a Titan and rescuing damsels in distress are all here. Elizabeth Rose adds a romantic touch and a surprise or two. I found her take on the story interesting and entertaining.

Good re-telling of the Perseus story even if it leans too much towards the romantic genre

A good read for a story that has been on tv but this is a little different. I would still recommend the story since it does not follow the norm.
