Oh my gosh, I absolutely LOVED issues #11 and #12! As a Dungeons & Dragons player, I got a total kick out of "Oubliettes & Ogres", plus the O&O character named "Lejandar Gygax" (FYI: Gary Gygax was the creator of Dungeons & Dragons). Also, who else got the issue #12 line "We have a few hours left, why don't we play a quick game of Hocus Pocus: The Get-Together?"

All in all, these two comics made me love My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic" even more. And I now appreciate Cadance and Shining Armor far more as characters and as a couple!

Issues 11-12 are one story.

My stepdaughter and I have disagreements about this story. She says that it is totally unrealistic that Princess Cadance would have attended a normal pony high school. I think the whole story is awesome. Oh, well.

Twilight and company are at a dinner party with Cadance and Shining Armor. They begin to tell the tale of how they met.

Shining Armor and his geek pony friends are priceless (especially while playing "Oubliettes & Ogres").

Issues 11 and 12 are pretty adorkable with Shining Armor and Cadence relating the tale of how they got together. While I never saw Shiny being a nerd, I really loved the D&D references, and the Quantum Leap reference in issue 12. It's those little things that the "target audience" is too young to understand that really make me appreciate the fact that they totally also have their older readers in mind :-)

This is story is about a bunch of water that is evil.
Q: What makes it evil?
A: Nobody knows.
There's a pony. Her name is Luna. But she has a dark thing inside her. Now Pinkie Pie - she was also hit by the evil magic water. Lots of ponies were hit. Well, Pinkie Pie is throwing these evil water balloons and she hit Luna. And Luna became Nightmare Moon, one of the evilest ponies.
Then Fluttershy declared war on Ponyville. (Q: Is she usually a bad guy? A: No, she's very nice! Usually.)
The main character in this story are the three little kids. The went to Zecora and Zecora made a special water that if you put it on someone who is mean would fix them. So when Nightmare Moon got Pinky Pie they put the special water on her and she got better. When Applejack saw that her own flesh and blood was working against her she started storming against her but the little kids threw the good water balloons at Applejack and she got better.
They decided to do Rainbow Dash next. So they made a target with a bucket of special water over it and then they dared Rainbow Dash into hitting it.
When she was good again she flew so fast with the buckets that it rained. (Did that take care of everyone else? No, just Fluttershy.)
In the end Nightmare Moon and Rarity and the others became good. Then they started to put right what had gone wrong.

Would you recommend this book to your friends?
No. I might. It's a little embarrassing. I would give it to my friends who really like MLP.

It's really nice that this comic fills in some more details about Shining Armour and Cadence. Their debut never tells us why they love each other so much, nor did any of the episodes (so far, at least - we're not quite halfway through season 8 yet). It's one of the main downsides to their characters - we're only ever told that they're super duper in love, but we never see why, so it feels like the show tries to force it (even though their dynamic does match, which helps sell it a bit more).

I can't get over how his nerdy friend is named "Poindexter" lol (and he looks similar to the guy Rarity charmed to get the asparagus for Fluttershy in S2E19). It's probably a coincidence, but it'd be funny if they were related or even the same guy lol).

It seems like part 2 will explain why they love each so much, but for now I suppose I'll end by saying this was great. I'm kinda disappointed it's only two issues ngl - but that is enough to tell what's ultimately a somewhat short story.

"SUCK IT UP POINDEXTER"

Even though this volume was nothing alike the past ones, as it focus on a lighter story (how Cadence and Shinning Armor met), its common sassy tone and gripping storytelling remained intact and it once more won my WHOLE ADORATION.
It left my curiosity curiosity uneasy.
