Just when crime scene cleaner Gabby St. Claire’s life is on the right track, the unthinkable happens. Gabby’s fiancé, Riley Thomas, is shot and remains in life-threatening condition only a week before their wedding.
Gabby is determined to figure out who pulled the trigger, even if investigating puts her own life at risk. But as she digs deeper into the facts surrounding the case, she discovers secrets better left alone. Doubts arise in her mind and the one man with answers is on death’s doorstep.
An old foe from the past returns and tests everything Gabby is made of—physically, mentally, and spiritually. Will her soul survive the challenges ahead? Or will everything she’s worked for be destroyed?
Christy Barritt is an author, freelance writer and speaker who lives in Virginia. She’s married to her Prince Charming, a man who thinks she’s hilarious—but only when she’s not trying to be. Christy’s a self-proclaimed klutz, an avid music lover who’s known for spontaneously bursting into song, and a road trip aficionado. She’s only won one contest in her life—and her prize was kissing a pig (okay, okay… actually she did win the Daphne du Maurier Award for Excellence in Suspense and Mystery also). Her current claim to fame is showing off her mother, who looks just like former First Lady Barbara Bush When she’s not working or spending time with her family, she enjoys singing, playing the guitar, and exploring small, unsuspecting towns where people have no idea how accident prone she is.
SPOILER ALERT- Another quick read in this series. While I am still not fond of a serial killer with the first name of my Grandfather, I had a feeling Gabby was right. He seemed to evil to die so quickly in the last book, but then his death in this book seemed not hard enough. One would have thought getting shot and then falling eight stories from a bridge would have done the trick. But then to be killed by a tree? That’s my only reason for rating this book not a five. Last book was odd that Gabbys best friend and her partner were not in at all, unless you count the five seconds of them telling her they were getting married. Then this book, they are back from their honeymoon and again, not very big characters in this one. Gabbys garbage dumpster diving, “freegan”brother isn’t in this one very much either. And the Riley didn’t speak at all in this until the very end. I just felt awful for Gabby. One week prior to getting married and your fiancé is shot in the head and in a coma? That’s harsh. But it was a great reminder, especially for her being a fairly new believer, God’s got this, you just have to give it over to Him. Her faith wavers and you can see why. The girl is under a ton of pressure and again has some mad man out there hunting her. This time she is mostly alone. Since Riley is in a coma and she sort of shuts everyone else out. On to the next book I suppose. Since the wedding didn’t happen in this one, I need to find out what happens!

This is book #6 in the Squeaky Clean Mystery series. Christy Barritt certainly knows how to grab an audience and hold them spell-bound until the end of the story. You know it will all turn out okay and yet it is so scary that your mind wonders if it will.
Gabby is out shopping for a wedding gown for her marriage to the love of her life, Riley, when she gets a phone call. Riley has been shot and is lying in a coma. Everything goes wrong from there on. She argues with Riley's parents and becomes distanced from them. She learns that Riley had been meeting another girl and now that girl has disappeared. Was he cheating on her? Gabby is convinced that Milton Jones, the killer from the last book, is still alive despite the fact that he was shot and fell into the river from a great height. Is he back and taking revenge on everyone who put him away- or are related to those who did? Gabby nearly becomes a victim herself before the mystery is resolved.
I didn't think it could be as good as the last one but it was. It seems the author is just getting better and better writing suspense. As soon as I got in from church tonight instead of tuning into the super bowl I sat down in my comfy spot and finished the book. Gabby thinks the serial killer from the last book survived the fall. Did he? I just had to keep reading to find out. Also, Riley's betrothed is in a coma after being shot. What will he be like if he survives the coma? Gabby uncovers some secrets while Riley is in the coma. Was he involved with another woman? Keep reading. You won't regret reading this book. I suggest reading all the books in order to get the full enjoyment of this series. At least if you won't do anything else read book 5 before reading book 6.
I accidentally read this book out of order so big spoiler alert for me. I like the main character, she's likable and spunky. Even if she does take unnecessary chances when "looking into things." This time the love of her life plays a major part in why she does what she does. That's all I'll say about that. Christy Barritt is one of my favorite authors and I know what I'm getting when I pick up one of her books. She is a clean writer meaning that she's not going to use offensive language or graphic scenes to convey her story. I appreciate that and in my estimation it takes a very good author to do that with her work. Now onto book #5! Oh well at least I'll know why some things happened in this book. LOL
To Love, Honor and Perish is probably going to be one of my favorite books in this series. The perseverance of Gabby throughout the book regarding her love for Riley, her fiancé and her tenacity to find and conquer the presumed dead serial killer, Jones makes this an outstanding book. Gabby’s relationship with God adds to her ability to be real and honest with her feelings and thoughts throughout this story. This is a great read!
There is no way I would have expected this intense departure. It amazes me how each book can be so filled with so many new leads and diversity. And how she comes up with such unexpected angles is keeping me awake at nights because I simply can't put these stories down until finished!
What a rollercoaster! This book was gripping. So many layers, all written superbly. I didn’t want to put it down. It was so emotionally engaging too — you feel everything that Gabby feels. Fantastic book, from a brilliant series. I highly recommend reading them all in order — they’re epic!
I really enjoyed this book. I love all of Christy Barritt's books, but this one struck a chord with me. I don't tell any of the drama in the stories, because I would rather you read and make your own decisions. Lots of activity in it though. Now I'm on to my next Christy Barritt book! Enjoy, and until next time .......
The emotional roller coaster on trusting God during adversity was right on. The story line was strong for Gabby's and Juliette's character when each one had to draw from their God given strength not their own.
Gabby St Clair has her faith tested as everything seems to spiral out of control and go wrong. She learns about how storms can test our faith but if we trust God He will bring us through stronger on the other side. Another great book by Christy Barritt!
Another Great mystery unfolds with Gabby as our always well intentioned heroine. But this time she may have gone too far with her snooping when she is kidnapped. And this time it will take every ounce of strength and courage she has to get out of this one.
This is an interesting mystery, I just do not know if I'll read any more of the series. Some of the things that happen are not believable and the past 3 books have been so detrimental to the heroine I just can't take any more problems!
Another great book, by a great author!! If you're looking for a book that has it all, you've come to the right place! A murder mystery, love story with a twist and turn around every corner!! Highly recommend reading this series!
This is every bit as exciting as all the previous books in this series. Will they ever stop the cereal killer? You will have to read it for yourself to find out.
My husband and I keep reading these series Christy Barritt writes. Every single book in each series is nothing short of terrific. On now to the next one....
