Rate this book
Mordichai grew up under the shadow of the baddest bad guy out there—Hieronymous Black—and he’s used his power to conjure fire to help Daddy Dearest in numerous nefarious plots. But he’s reformed now—and just in time to meet the woman of his dreams.

Isole Frost knows all about Mordi’s past, and she believes him when he says he’s truly reformed. Trouble is, she also believes that Hieronymous truly wants to give up his dark ways and join the good guys, and nothing Mordi says can sway her. He may be the dark-haired, green-eyed man of her dreams, but she’s sure that he’s wrong. And when they’re forced to work together, they’re either going to prove that fire won’t mesh with ice—or that the inevitable result is a whole lotta steam!

J. Kenner (aka Julie Kenner) is the New York Times, USA Today, Publishers Weekly, Wall Street Journal and International bestselling author of over seventy novels, novellas and short stories in a variety of genres.

Though known primarily for her award-winning and international bestselling erotic romances (including the Stark and Most Wanted series) that have reached as high as #2 on the New York Times bestseller list, JK has been writing full time for over a decade in a variety of genres including paranormal and contemporary romance, “chicklit” suspense, urban fantasy, Victorian-era thrillers (coming soon), and paranormal mommy lit.

Her foray into the latter, Carpe Demon: Adventures of a Demon-Hunting Soccer Mom by Julie Kenner, has been consistently in development in Hollywood since prior to publication. Most recently, it has been optioned by Warner Brothers Television for development as series on the CW Network with Alloy Entertainment producing.

JK has been praised by Publishers Weekly as an author with a “flair for dialogue and eccentric characterizations” and by RT Bookclub for having “cornered the market on sinfully attractive, dominant antiheroes and the women who swopn for him.” A three time finalist for Romance Writers of America’s prestigious RITA award, JK took home the first RITA trophy awarded in the category of erotic romance in 2014 for her novel, Claim Me (book 2 of her Stark Trilogy).

Her books have sold well over a million copies and are published in over over twenty countries.

In her previous career as an attorney, JK worked as a clerk on the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and practiced primarily civil, entertainment and First Amendment litigation in Los Angeles and Irvine, California, as well as in Austin, Texas. She currently lives in Central Texas, with her husband, two daughters, and two rather spastic cats.

Aphrodite’s Flame by Julie Kenner
Protectors/Superhero Series Book 4 (6th story)
Mordichai Black didn’t have much going his way. His Outcast Protector father hated mortals and Mordi was a Halfling. His mortal mother considered him a freak and sent him to his loveless evil father. Mordi was caught up in a world of wanting to be a good Protector and yet yearning his father’s affection. Finally he realized that only one of those things would be possible for him.

Isole Frost had to face the fact that other Protectors believed that she didn’t earn her status as a Protector or her new promotion, but that it had been handed to her as the niece of the High Elder. On top of all that she now has a high profile case of an Outcast she needs to test to see if he really is a good guy now and can be reinstated to the Council. And then there’s the handsome guy working with her who’s dangerous to her in more than one way.

Mordi is one of those characters who’s been in most all of the books. You can see where the war between good and evil is fought within him and that he’s just a lost little boy. You rooted for him to do the right thing, but his desire for Dearest Daddy’s love was just too strong. It made this story all the more exciting. As with the previous books the author brings in the other characters. It’s been my favorite kind of series as they had roles in their own books as well as the other stories. The final story is in the Anthology: These Boots Were Made for Stomping – A Step in the Right Direction.

Fourth in the Superhero Central romantic fantasy series revolving around different Protectors, all descendants of those whom we all thought were Greek gods.

The Story
Mordichai Black has openly returned to the side of the good and has been proving himself over and over but it's not until he is teamed up with Isabelle Frost to assess a pretty big fish for Re-Assimilation that he finally reintegrates in with humanity.

My Take
Cut and fluffy romantic look at beings with inherited superpowers. Kenner has a nice light, humorous touch poking fun at bureaucracy (I do love the memos she includes!) and humiliating the villains with a campy approach to their James-y Bond-y lives even as she creates a homey atmosphere.

The Cover
The cover very accurately reflects the cartoony quality of the story with its cherub of a superman aiming his flaming arrow. I'm not sure where the title arises from unless it refers to the love that flames up so quickly between Mordi and Izzy.

Mordichai Black spent the first three books of the series trying to help bring his father, Hieronymous, to justice. His father never appreciated Mordi because his son is a halfling (half Protector, half mortal). But Mordichai helped because Hieronymous is truly evil and basically wants to enslave the mortal race. So, Mordi's kind of shocked to find out that his father has been accepted to the re-assimilation program.
Isole Frost is a counselor for the High Council. She is also the niece of the most powerful in the Inner Circle of Elders and some people think that she's been riding on Zephron's coattails. For years, Izzy has been trying to prove that it is her powers of empathy that have gotten her to where she is, not her family connections.
They are assigned to work together not only on working to see if Hieronymous has truly repented but also to work on the latest mortal treaty.
Suspend disbelief, think that this is going to be a light, fun story and it is pretty enjoyable.

"Aphrodite's Flame" is the fourth book in the Superhero Series by Julie Kenner. Mordi has a lot to prove. Mainly that he deserves to be a Protector and that he is not going to follow his father's path in life. Izzy Frost, Zephron's halfling niece, also has a lot to prove. Mainly that she deserves to be a protector and that her recent promotion is because she's worked hard not because she's related to the High Elder. As a re-appointment counselor she has to evaluate outcasts who wish to rejoin the Protector ranks. Little does she know that her first case is going to be the notorious Hieronymous Black. Overall, I enjoyed this novel. Watching Mordi's transformation from the first novel to the current one has be an interesting journey. If you like sweet romances with a mythological twist then this series is for you.

Mordecai has left his evil father, Hieronymus, and been reassimilated into the superhero fold. But when his father turns up, claiming to want to return to the good side, Mordecai is unconvinced. Working with his father's counselor, Isole Frost, he must figure out Hieronymus's goals.

I wish that we had seen a little bit leading up to this book. As we left it, Mordecai was still a mole and hadn't yet gone public with his change of heart. It seemed that much had changed very quickly, so it disoriented me a bit. Mordecai has done a complete 180, suddenly very committed to being good. It's very interesting that his motives are never called into question during the entire book, which is unusual. Overall, a quick read, and enjoyable too.

This is the 4th book in the series, and it belongs to Mordi and Isole. I have liked Mordi from the very begin in Aphrodite's Kiss, and I think that Isole was perfect for him, I loved that all the characters were in this book, and I LOVED that Mordi got his HEA but it bothered me terribly that every just up and forgave him so freaking easily. I mean its great they did but geez how unbelievable is that. Very in my book. This book bounced just like the others and it still have that god awful licking of the lips that i hope i never read again. but all in all this was the best ending of this series.

Mordi is getting a reputation for being a dedicated hunter of bad guys, trying to prove himself as being free of his father, the worlds most super villain. He and Isole are called to assess his father's honesty about wanting to turn a a new leaf. There are plots within plots and plans within plans and it will take the two of them to work together, but can they trust each other long enough to save the day and to solve the puzzle? What are they going to do about the growing attraction?

It's a chick-lit romance novel and there are some very predictable moments here, nothing serious, a park-your-brain read.

Demon fighting soccer moms to demi-gods superheroes, why is Ms. Kenner not a Netflix series yet? This one hits the age old bias against mixed blood heritage. As a halfling, Mordichai Black is kicked out of the "cool kids" club. Doesn't help that his father is not the most friendly guy.

This is the 4th book in the series. Like the other three before it there was nothing that really stood out about the book and yet I would still say this was one of the better books in the 4 book series. The characters felt the same, Mordi had lost his personality so he could become a love interest, but the plot itself was better than the others and a little less contrived to force them together. However, as the previous novels, when the two fall in love I just didn't feel the "wow" of it. Good story with forced romance.

Cute story. I'm glad Mordi finally decided to be a good guy and turn against his father. He deserved his happily ever after. I thought it was super poetic that H-man was not only foiled at the end, but that all of his powers are now gone and he is what he hates, mortal! It was a nice wrap up to the series. Everyone if married and happy and the family has finally learned to trust and love each other. It was a sweet sentiment and sweet story.

Fourth in the series.

The story turns to Mordi, Hieronymous' Halfling son, who's been in every book so far. Torn between loyalties to his twisted father and to the Protector's Council, Mordi has been an emotional mess. He meets Isole Frost, an empath, who's entrusted with verifying the Hieronymous has really turned back to the good. She thinks he has, Mordi's sure he hasn't but a small part of him hopes he has. The gang once again unites to save the day.

book was ok, don't think I would pursue the series. Its kind of like a supermanish type story but with Demigods if you, little sex, definately a young adult book. Felt like the story just went back and forth on the same thing - 1st what he was thinking then what she was thinking about the same thing.

I know I said the last one was my favorite in this series but I have to amend that to this one. The plot was strong and it was much less a romance book then the previous ones. Not that I'm against a good romance, but I love an engrossing story more. A good mix is even better!

Goodreads Synopsis:

Continuing Kenner's loosely linked Protector series that includes the "USA Today" bestselling "Aphrodite's Kiss" and "Aphrodite's Passion," this long-awaited story features Mordi, the good-natured villain from previous stories, who finally finds love. Original.

Good if you like light and fluffy romances with super-powers thrown in. I did a lot of skimming to get past all the usual hand-wringing and over-analyzing that Julie Kenner's characters always seem to do. Definitely better than most of the previous books in the series, though!
