This series truly changed the way I looked at Mother/Daughter relationships including my own. I got so angry, I cried. I got so inspired, I cried again. Loved it
This is probably the best book I have read in a very long time! This is a wonderful story about different generations of women in a family and follows their lives and how they heal generational trauma and hurt over time. It has a wonderful story of how a relationship with God is so impactful and inspiring. I wanted this story to go on forever!!!
Loved, but was many times disturbed by what I read in these stories. At times it felt way too close to my own story. It made me realize that mother/daughter relationships are complicated in every home. Learning to speak truth and be open is something we appreciate in our generation but it was not always appreciated in the past. Remembering that our mothers, grandmothers, great-grandmothers were once little girls, had lives, hurts, hopes, etc. helps bring them down from the pedestal of motherhood to mere humans like the rest of us. Gave me a renewed freedom to love my mom, grandmas and greats for the complex people they are/were. Francine Rivers never disappoints!
I loved this series. My friend form work lent me these books and I could not put them down. Her Mother's Dream I read in about a day and a half. It is about a life of 4 women who were daughter and mothers of one another. It is very uplifting and it showed how God's grace and love prevailed through this book. It was uplifting and sad. No matter the struggles that each women went through the Lord was in the situation. He taught them how to love and discovered just how much they were loved even though they felt no love. I would recommend this book to any mother or daughter.
I loved this book. I was crying, sad, mad, frustrated and happy. Had me guessing what the legacy was exactly but it was a great surprise finding out what it was. I could not put this book down. I have this book five stars because right where it could’ve ended, it didn’t. It went on to what you would call a second ending and helped you find full closure in the story of all characters. What a wonder it is to find out you are truly loved. Oh the importance of telling someone you love them! Recommend this book 100%
I could not put these books down. At times, the four generational story seemed a little overwhelming and I had to keep checking to make sure I knew which character was which. It was captivating and the ending pulled all 4 generations together very well. A great story with a great message on many different levels.
I was drawn in to Marta’s story immediately. I love historical novels, and was enjoying the mental escape of daily life. As her family grew, and we got to meet the next generations, I was so affected by how I found Marta’s and Hildemara’s relationship to be so like my own mother and sister. It was fascinating how I kept making mental parallels! The relationship between Hildie and Carolyn, however, shifted my parallels to my mother and myself, and I begin to wonder at Francine’s writings: was this really a Christian author?! I was admittedly frustrated, but so far invested in the story, I kept going, wiping my tears as I read. I’m so glad I stuck with it and finished this morning. How good God was to bring their relationship to healed brought such joy for me, and has caused me to reflect on my own family dynamic, and how the power of prayer can most certainly shift our focus to Hope, through Jesus Christ our Savior.
An intriguing series that takes the reader through a century of relationships between mother and daughter. While reading, I found myself thinking "well, if they had just talked about it they wouldn't have been in this situation!", however, upon further reflection I found such similarity in our own lives, as women. Often we conceal our inner most feelings about the other, when if we would just openly communicate with each other relationships would be so much more rich and less hurtful.
Francine Rivers does a wonderful job pulling the reader into the story. A captivating read that you won't want to put down! Make sure you have the sequel "Her Daughter's Dream" close by, as you will want to snatch it up as soon as you finish reading "Her Mother's Hope"!
Very detailed in action, but some of that detail is what prodded me back to the book. So not boring with it’s inclusion. I have a family with relational difficulties on my dad’s side, this book could have served me with inspiration to help them seek to bridge their difficulties rather than ignore them. Twenty years without talks NNG and less than ten miles between homes! How very sad! But she did it right. Insisting that God do the work of bringing the family together.!
I have never been disappointed with any work of Francine Rivers. These two books are no exception. There are many threads in the books, all expertly woven to tell a saga of multiple generations of one family. Ultimately, it is a story of redemption of a family torn apart by secret’s kept, intentions wildly misunderstood, and walls built . I loved it and highly recommend it.
This was a hard book to read for me, the abuse in the beginning, the theme throughout which felt like a mother's rejection, passed down from generation to generation. I shed a lot of tears through these two intertwined books. God's plan unfolded in not so gentle ways, but I am glad I stuck it out and finished both books. Life is hard, but God is good.
I love Francine's writing. I truly get captured by the characters she creates. The are so very real. Through this story it was interesting to see how misconceptions and misunderstandings can have a domino affect impacting multiple generations. Makes me want to err on the side of grace with those I dearly love.
Although Mark of the Lion is one of my favorite series, these stories didn't have the same feel. The writing reminds me of Willa Cather; short, choppy sentences that read more like a history than a work of fiction. The books left me slightly depressed although I have to admit, I had a hard time putting them down.
This author writes about life in a way that brings me to my bible! It is heartfelt and sometimes I've had to reflect on my own life! Growth in my Faith! Opening my bible more often in reading her books! Sometimes I would ask myself Is this written just for me! Lol Opened my eyes and heart and also my Faith in Jesus!
I cried. I laughed. I blushed. I cringed. I empathised. I felt included. Most of all, I developed a newfound appreciation for my relationship with my mom. Like, it really could be worse.
If you are a Christian woman, I advise you to read this 900-page collection of 4 generations of mothers. The drama pot was sizzling.
It was wonderful to see Gods work intertwined in so family lives. Through so many sad and tragic events the story reminded of God's purpose in our lives. Always love one another and trust God.
Such a good series. She follows four women. Starting with Marta in the early 1900s and finishing with her great-granddaughter in early 2000. There were many unexpected twists in this book. I absolutely loved both books.
Wonderfully written. A book full of joy and heartbreak as you read about the lives of 5 generations of mothers and daughters and their impact as they share their choices to give strength to their children.
Very good book focusing on mother\daughter relationships. The story started in europe, then continued with the hardships of immigrants, and complexities of raising families through 4 generations. Definitely a book that has impact.
What I’ve said to everyone since I read it is that these characters are just TOO human. They make the same painful mistakes that we’ve all made, but it’s so hard to read it happening to others when you just want to shake them. I was so moved and challenged by these books. Loved them.
This is one of the very best books I have ever read! It’s wonderful to have found a Christian author! Thus far, every book I have read by Mrs. Rivers, has been beyond outstanding! I look forward to reading as many of her books as possible!
