All is fair in love and war, until you throw greek gods into the mix...
When Pandora first opened her eyes and was greeted by the beauty of Mount Olympus, she didn't expect to be kidnapped, tortured, or thrown into a world of destruction and chaos.
As the first and only woman to ever exist, she is a valuable commodity--one men and gods are willing to start wars over. She has no say in what happens to her, but she's ready to change that.
There is a titan who has caught her eye, a god who was brave enough to steal fire from Zeus and strong enough to endure an eternity of physical punishment for helping the humans. She thinks she's falling in love.
Unfortunately, his brother and the chains that weigh Prometheus down, make it impossible for them to be together.
But...
There's this box.
She's not supposed to open it. All kinds of horrible things exist inside , but it promises to make all her dreams come true.
Her curiosity is so strong that it hurts. One peek won't destroy everything, right?
She's ready to find out and it's time to pay the consequences.
If you love Percy Jackson, but wish it was written more for adults, then this is the book for you.
E.B. Black’s life changed the moment she learned how to read. She had an active imagination and books allowed her to visit new worlds and meet new people that she’d otherwise never know. As a teenager, she often neglected schoolwork and sleeping in order to get in more reading time.
Now, she writes fantasy, science fiction, and romance books. She hopes to captivate her audience in the same way she’s been captivated all her life by books.
She lives in southern California with her husband and a dog that she loves and spoils.
Since Pandora's Box is a short story, I'm going to keep this review short as well. If you feel you'd like more details feel free to ask and I'll try to answer as best I can.
This is a great novella. I'm going to assume that my readers know the classic myth of Pandora's Box. (If not I've provided the link to the myth on Wikipedia. You don't need to be familiar with the it to enjoy Pandora's Mistake, but if you haven't heard of it you should go check it out just to enrich yourself. The Wikipedia article isn't that long so it shouldn't take more than a moment.) Well Pandora's Mistake is an interesting twist on the original tale. I always got the impression from the original myth that Pandora was a bit of a nosy twit. I don't mean to be mean, but she was told to do one little thing and she couldn't do it. The only reason it really annoyed me was that for some reason since then some people like to use her as a stereotype for all woman. (I'm not saying everyone does just a few shallow idiots.) I definitely like Black's version of Pandora better. She hasn't been changed into a sword wielding super brain, but the reasoning behind what she does is a whole lot better than a lack of self control. Also her naivete is more because no one has ever told her anything much beyond she's supposed to be a good wife and not to open the jar, instead of her just being an airhead. Also I like how she evolves throughout the story. As I said it isn't a thousand page novel or anything, but in the pages that are there the author provides us with a glimpse of Pandora realizing that her world wasn't all that she thought it was. I also like seeing Prometheus's version of events. Both those leading up to his eternal torture by Zues to his interactions with Pandora. I can't wait to read more of The Fate of Eros books. I'd really like to see what else the author does with Greek mythology. This one gets 5 out of 5. It's currently free on Amazon, the link is under the cover pic above, so go grab it while you have a chance.
I got this book from Amazon because it was on sale and decided to review it for this event. All opinions in this fair and honest review are my own.
Well written, captivating mythology story line. I love mythology. This prequel is very well written and a page turner. I wish I could have a magic bow and arrow to shoot the raven that daily pecks at Prometheus's liver. Pandora and Prometheus fell in love when Pandora tried to ease the pain and suffering Prometheus had to go through at the beak of this undead raven.
Really got into this book but there was on HEA in the ay you expect. It was really sad and my heart broke for him. He lost so much. I just felt l like things weren't resolved. I haven't come across many books that don't have HEA in the traditional sense so this was different and I didn't like it. But I will say that overall it was a good read and kept me going which is why I gave it 4 stars.
This was okay. I wouldn't read it again and probably won't read anymore E,B. Black books since I've also read Medusa's Desire and didn't care for it very much either. Of the two, I think this was a better book.
The story of humanity as seen thru different eyes!!!
I've heard a story of Pandora before, but never quite this eloquently!!! You are truly pulled into the struggle like never before. I understand better her struggle and am wowed by her perseverance!!! Exceptional retelling!!!
I enjoyed this story. It was about Pandora and instead of a box it’s a jar. Of course it ends like the original story does she opens the jar. But I enjoyed this story.
I have to say, I was a bit disappointed in this book. Although I liked Prometheus and Pandora's characters, I wasn't left with the kind of satisfaction I hope for at the end of a romance book. And although it made sense for Pandora to fall for Prometheus so quickly, I didn't think it made much sense the other way round.
The author did do a good job of showing how much pain Prometheus was in. His brother's attitude towards Pandora made a certain kind of sense - but I would have liked the book better if he hadn't been abusive towards Pandora.
One of the reasons I liked this book was because of the note of sacrifice in it. Prometheus chose saving mankind above everything else. However, the book changed the myth - and I'm not sure that it really worked, given that the ending didn't seem to match the original myth's.
I do have the second book on my Kindle and I'm hoping that it'll leave me with a better feeling than this one. I really do like books based on myths and legends... but this fell far short of my expectations.
Let me start off by saying that I absolutely adore mythology based books! Pandora's Mistake took an ancient legend and made it into an almost new story that I just thoroughly enjoyed! The details of the world before time were just incredible. The storyline was kept very original and fresh, the details were spot on and the characters were each unique and complex with palpable emotions. I was completely entranced by this awesome story that fulfilled my every desire for mythology with complexity! I absolutely could not stop reading this book and finished it in a little over an hour in one sitting. The author did an absolutely amazing job and I can't wait to read more of her work!!
This book was pretty good. This is the first book I have read with a mythology feel. I had heard about Pandora's box and what was inside but thats pretty much it. This was a good spin on her origins and the history surrounding Pandora's box. I have always been interested in the Greek gods so I think I will follow this series to see where it goes. I took off a star because this book was short and where I expected to continue to 99% with this story it ends somewhere at 60% or after and then a few chapters of the next book starts.
This was a good short story. Though at times I felt like Pandora was kind of annoying and naive it fit with where the story was taking place. I also felt that sometimes it was too descriptive for a short story. It seemed to drone on and on when I felt it wasn't necessary. other then that it was a nice quick read.
This story reminds some of love won and lost. Or at least it did me. But then it will make you think if love can concur all. It is also a sad story. I would recommend this book to friends. So if you do I hope you enjoy it. I try not to give books I read away. As reading a story and getting your own point of view is why I enjoy reading so much.
This is a romantic version of the story of Pandora and her box but even with the romance it is a Greek tragedy aside from that it was a great read and I enjoyed it. I can't wait to read the next book in the series 5 gold stars.
I am giving this book 5 stars because I completely LOVED it! Very dark and barbaric take on Pandora but I could not stop reading this. I wish it would had been longer ,I really just didn't want it to end. will be happily reading the next book.
The book is badly written and rushed. Couldn't enjoy it. I feel like the concentration was misplaced for a greek myth type. Wouldn't recommend to anyone with qualms about sexism.
This story was well done at least to what I know of greek mythology. I do know some of the story about Pandors and the box, now I want to do some more research and reading on it since I always lived mythology. otherwise all I can say is the story and characters were well done.
What a strong mythology story. This will captivate fans and an excellent page turner.
This is a great novella and interesting twist on the original tale has Pandora evolves throughout the legend. I will read the next Greek mythology of this series.
