Laurie and Rachel the childhood best friends who went there separate ways with families and work lives. Until one day when they are 35 they both need each other once again. The pair end up house swapping.

Rachel living in Yorkshire with her family swaps to live in London. Thinking her marriage is in a mess while her daughter is messaging this guy.

Laurie the workaholic of London gets the taste of the countryside in Yorkshire while not wanting to be romantically involved. That's due to not being over Jay her ex back in London.

I liked Rachel from the start but Laurie was not so likeable. She grew on me when emailing Milly (her God daughter) and when she was with Jay. Jay should have featured a little more.

An easy read that gets more festive as you get into it.

If you’re looking for an easy and charming read for the Christmas season, look no further – Meet Me Under the Mistletoe, Abby Clements’s debut novel, will definitely put you in the Christmas spirit. It’s a light and entertaining read that would make a perfect Christmas present or a great read the week before Christmas Day. Even though it’s only October and snow, Christmas trees and fairy lights are still nowhere to be seen, Laurie and Rachel’s story made me feel like I was sitting in fire-lit living room with the lingering smell of cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg filling the air. On top of a witty storyline, the book has a festive, cheerful atmosphere which I really enjoyed.

While lots books from this genre tend to be quite predictable, I was relieved to find that Meet Me Under the Mistletoe is not one of them. There are so many chick lit books out there (usually about love triangles) where you can figure out the ending before the book has even started but Clements’s book was definitely a pleasant surprise. The plot was very well written, full of twists and turns and I seriously couldn’t predict what would happen next. The characters are likeable, the plot is original and very enjoyable and I’m not exaggerating when I say I read it in one day. Also, in addition to the fact that the book has a stunning (and very sparkly) cover which I absolutely adore, it also includes two bonus Christmas recipes that are featured in the story. How creative is that?

The book has a third person narrator but it’s divided into two parts – one chapter is about Rachel, the next one is about Laurie and so on, which I particularly liked about this book. Laurie is a brilliant character and she even reminded me of myself a little bit. She’s the typical city girl who lives on takeaway food, whose cooking skills are limited (or let’s just say non-existent) and whose countryside surviving skills are even worse than her ability to cook. Now, give this woman a pair of high heels and designer clothes clearly unfit for the countryside and put her in a cottage with no central heating or anything remotely modern and you’re guaranteed a real good laugh. Laurie’s attempts to fit in this small community is hilarious and I thoroughly enjoyed this side of the story.

The only thing I wasn’t particularly keen on was the writing itself. While I enjoyed the plot, I found dialogues and some descriptive parts rather bland. It’s not as bland as to put you off and as I said I loved the book itself, but I do think it could have been better. And by better I mean a bit wittier, funnier or more realistic in terms of how the characters talk to each other and how the third person narrator tells us what’s going on in their minds. For there were times when I was trying to put my finger on what was missing and the only explanation I managed to come up with is that it’s a bit… simple and fluffy. Something was missing for me and I think it was that extra bit of spark, humour and realism from the writing and the dialogues. At the same time, it has a very warm and festive feel to it which is always a plus.

All in all, Meet Me Under the Mistletoe is a great debut and a light, entertaining read for winter nights. I would recommend it if you like this genre or if you’re looking for some Christmas reads. And don’t forget to try the recipes after reading the book! That’s exactly what I’m planning to do.

Still in a festive mood, I decided to read this novel, my first, by Abby Clements. Reminiscent of the film “The Holiday” two former best friends swap homes for a few weeks. Laurie made a mistake in her high-flying job in London and was told to take two months off to get herself together, while Rachel had to leave the comfort of her countryside life to come to the capital while her mother-in-law underwent some hospital tests. So they swap houses in the run up to Christmas and use the time to re-evaulate their lives and refocus their priorities. It was a nice read, well written with some interesting characters and good descriptives. It just felt a little flat to me, I was hoping for more of a Christmas atmosphere, more romance, or even some humour to really make it sparkle. Light, quick, and easy reading when you have a few hours spare - 3.5 stars.

This was an okay book. I liked the story premise, but honestly think it could have been about 100 pages shorter. There was just too much filler and I found myself bored way too much throughout.

Meet Me Under the Mistletoe is a seasonal read telling the story of two estranged friends who for reasons beyond their control are forced to temporarily swap house. They reluctantly settle into the for them foreign places and after a bumpy start they start to learn more about themselves and discover what is truly important in life.

Laurie is a fashion designer in the bustling city of London. Consumed by her career it's not uncommon for her to arrive at the office as early as 7.30am. However, her focus on work does mean that her family and friends get neglected and the one glint at a romance she's had in the recent past failed miserably because she told the guy in not so many words that her work was more important than pursuing a relationship with him.

Childhood friend Rachel's life couldn't have turned out more different from Laurie's. Now a mother of two and a devoted wife she spends most of her time in the family cottage in a quiet village in the countryside. Her day-to-day activities consist mainly of taking care of her children, husband and to a lesser extend her mother-in-law Bea. But when the latter unexpectedly needs to go into a hospital in London the friends' paths cross again.

To not bankrupt herself on accommodation costs in the city Rachel asks if she can stay in Laurie's apartment for the duration of her mother-in-law's treatment, and her old friend is more than happy to help out. Even more than that, since Laurie has just been forced to take temporary leave from her work she not only lets Rachel and her two children stay over, but also offers them the use of the entire apartment while she spends a few weeks at Rachel's cottage to get out of their way.

What starts off as a forced change of scenery for Laurie, with the predictable withdrawal systems because of lack of phone reception and general city mod cons, turns into more than she could have ever hoped for when against all odds she actually starts to enjoy the countryside, peculiar villagers and all. She discovers a part of herself that she had forgotten about by being solely focused on her career since leaving school.

The change of pace and people London provides Rachel and her family does them good too. As her teenage daughter spreads her wings they actually grow closer and Rachel and her husband start to see each other in a different light as well.

The novel's pink and purple cover literally sparkles, and printed with snowflakes and Christmas ornaments it perfectly reflects its contents; baking Christmas goods, ice skating in Hyde Park and of course eligible bachelors to spice the story up. It was a cute read and very funny at times, particularly in those moments where Laurie was completely out of her element far away from the big city.

Towards the end of Meet Me Under the Mistletoe I kept thinking that it should've been titled I'll Be Home for Christmas instead, as that phrase was used a few times in memorable moments, but of course that was before I had come to the inevitable romantic scene under a sprig of mistletoe on Christmas Day which makes the reader feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

At the back of the novel author Abby Clements has included a recipe and a craft idea for the holidays, which were fun little extras. Though being so used to having recipes included in books nowadays, thanks to most prominently Jenny Colgan's recent releases, what I was really hoping to read was Bea's Countdown to Christmas, the handwritten book by Rachel's mother-in-law outlining all the preparations for Christmas. Considering the amount of times The Book was referenced throughout the story it felt like a missed opportunity to not have it be part of it.

Meet Me Under the Mistletoe is still suitably seasonal and has a few twists towards the end to keep both the characters on their toes and the reader wanting more. A lovely novel to dream away with on a cold winter's day, I can particularly recommend reading it while curled up under a fleece and with a nice cup of hot chocolate at hand.

I was so thrilled when I got this book in the mailbox the other day. It was like Christmas came early and with the stunning cover and heartwarming to boot, it really felt like Christmas in October! So instead of studying for my finals, I started on it straight away and I never regretted! But before I discuss about Abby Clements's fabulous debut novel, can I point out that the cover is absolutely stunning! Initially, the cover was light green, almost like pistachio and the design team managed to revamp it and look at that cover, you lot!

As I've mentioned countless times, I love debut novels. They are written by new, fresh and yet-to-be-discovered talents out there. So it's almost an adventure for me every time I read a novel by a debut author. And glad to inform you that Abby Clements's new book - Meet Me Under The Mistletoe - is one hell of a book. It's such a compelling book, heartbreaking at times and so warm, it could thaw the coldness during a quiet snowy winter day.

Meet Me Under The Mistletoe is about to former best friends who were inseparable but after fifteen years or so, the both of them lead different lives. Laurie, the one who used to be the outcast, unpopular with only Rachel as her friend, living in London and working as a fashion designer for Seamless whereas Rachel, happily married to her high school sweetheart, Aiden with two children in tow, living in Skipley. Although both women are so far apart, geographically, but at some point, their paths will cross unexpectedly, with the magic of friendship and Christmas, both women are set for something life-changing.

Okay, let's do characters! Laurie, workaholic, always busy and recovering from a failed relationship with one of her best friends, Jay. After a disaster at work, she finds herself in the little village called Skipley, house swapping with Rachel. Then there's Rachel, mother of two, loving wife and daughter-in-law to the lovely Bea, who has to go to London because of Bea's medical treatment, living in Laurie's place. Honestly, at the beginning, I couldn't stand Laurie because she was proving rather difficult to be likeable. But as the story progresses and she becomes a warmer and better person, a whole lot better than the snob she was. Regarding Rachel, I don't have anything to say much but to tell you what a cool mum she is. Supportive wife, loving mother and a total sweetheart.

The book is divided between Laurie and Rachel, where you can read about what a lovely albeit small village Skipley is, compared to the busy, vibrant and happening London city. The setting of the book really worked for me as it contrasted the calm, peaceful environment of Skipley with the hustle and bustle of London. For me, it was the chick lit, modern version of The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse but with a twist!

It's a proper pick-me-up during lonely wintry nights when you've decide for a night-in. The perfect companion. I couldn't recommend this book enough if you are a fan of Julia Williams. This will make your Christmas even sweeter with its heartwarming contents.

You can order it here on Amazon or here on Book Depository.

I love being able to curl up in front of the fire with a glass of mulled wine and a Christmas read so was delighted when Lindsay asked me to review this book for her blog.

The story is told mainly through the eyes of Rachael and Laurie, childhood friends who have chosen very different paths in their adult lives.
Laurie is a fashion designer in a London firm, a work- a -holic she puts work in front of everything else in her life. A mistake that will cost the firm a lot of money forces her into an unwanted career break.
Rachael is a domestic goddess who lives in the country with her husband and two children and along with her mother in law Bea is preparing for Christmas the traditional way until Bea takes ill and requires investigations in London.
Both women decide to swap houses in the lead up to the Christmas period . Laurie to get away from her ruined love life and her enforced break from work, Rachael to help Bea out while in a London hospital.
The story evolves around both women trying to adjust to their new surroundings and socially fit in while endeavouring to sort out their own issues.
It is told through their eyes in alternating chapters, a technique that I always warm to and is interwoven nicely with the introduction to the rest of the characters who had issues of their own. I thought I knew how it would pan out and was very wrong in that assumption as the tale takes a new twist half way through it.
I loved the writing style, feeling that I was part of the plot, nicely paced and very descriptive, so much so I want to live in Rachael's house and village! On reading Laurie's disaster I found myself very distressed for her and the unjustness of it all and throughout the book was drawn in similarly to other ongoing events.
Beautiful book cover with an appendix at the back that included a recipe and instructions on how to make a snow globe. I was left with a warm glow on finishing this and intend to watch out for further gems by this author.

First of all, the cover of the book is just F - A - N - T - A - s - T - I - C. I am such a sucker when it comes to such covers, so sweet and festive, and so, so nice.
Then, the book itself have me hookes from the very first page to the very last one. It was a fabulous read. I don't know why, because maybe the plot was not the most ambitious, but it was written in such a pleasant, warm and emotional way. Very likeable characters, very nice people, very likeable problems. I loved Rachel and Laurie, I loved Rachel's family - but, sad to say, not Aiden. He played on my nerves so, so much, I just hated the way he treated Rachel, and even if I understand he did this all for the family, I couldn't stand his humours and his "But don't you understand". Of course she understood, but she is a woman as well and she can hope, can't she? And he wouldn't win me over with his christmas present, oh no.
And I must say that the book was not so predictable for me, I have thought it will end different for Laurie, for Milly, for Aiden, but this time - no. and it's good so:)
So, all in all, very nice read, very clear, very logical, and very, very warm and full of feelings. What else can one need for a long, winter evening? Made me want Christmas to come immediately:)

Ok so after reading the ice cream books and loved them I had a feeling i may feel the same way about her other books and it turns out I was right. Meet Me under the mistletoe was a warm easy paced book perfect for Christmas time or anytime really, when I read the cover I automatically thought of the film the holiday and in some ways they were simular. The book was full of little twists and revelations but it had a constant feeling of love, family and warmth running through it and it was easy and pleasant to read the characters were very likable except for Patrick of course and the story line felt realistic I really enjoyed this read and recommend it ☺☺

This is the first book by Abby Clements and reading this I didn't think it was. Her writing is really good and this book is very thought out. It made me crave to have a big family one day to spend Christmas with and to do some baking during the festive time. At first I didn't warm to Laurie but as the book went on I became to like her more. I liked her relationship with her Rachels daughter Milly. I look forward to reading more from Abby.

It's not worth it. It's gone onto the "Gave Up!" shelf. Plot as see-through as a net curtain and nothing remotely interesting in what I can see through said plot.

Any writer who feels the constant need to say things like "he smoothed back her silky dark blond hair" or "her chestnut curls framed her face" etc all over the place really needs to read a few good books for ideas. (less)

"Открадни си целувка" на Аби Клементс създава Коледно настроение. Не е сладникава като останалите романи от този тип. По-скоро разглежда взаимоотношения между деца-родители, между приятели и в семейството. Действието е спокойно и разтоварващо. Между страниците се усеща Коледния дух. Тази книга те кара да искаш да бъдеш по-добър.

I really enjoyed reading this book. Even if it took me more than 3 weeks to finish. Yeah, due to work and study.

I’m a very Christmassy person, I start talking about Christmas in August and I literally can never wait to put all my decorations up as soon as it hits December. One thing I especially love as a reader is books with a Christmas theme, and so as soon as I saw Abby Clements new book I could not wait to start it!

We open the story at the start of a very big morning for Laurie. At the fashion label she works at, the handbag that Laurie has been in charge of for months has its release date on that very date. Full of excitement, she rushes into work to await its delivery. But when a mistake happens, her career comes crashing down on her. Told to take a few months off ‘as a break’, Laurie is devastated.

Up in Yorkshire is Rachel, married to the handsome Aiden, and a mum to two children, teenager Milly and little Zak. She is living the perfect life with a loving family, and preparing for Christmas. All of a sudden, Rachel’s mother-in-law Bea falls ill and needs urgent treatment in London.

When childhood friends Laurie and Rachel get in contact again, a house-swap falls into place, with some interesting and surprising results.

I really really enjoyed Meet Me Under The Mistletoe. The story was a lovely read, and I found that I could go along with the story at a pace that suited me, I liked how easy it was to read, I liked the themes that were incorporated in, and I liked the warm happy feeling that the story left me with long after I had finished.

Although there are essentially two separate stories – Rachel’s chapters and Laurie’s chapters – Abby Clements manages to cleverly and subtly blend them in with each other, and this allows the story to flow at a beautiful pace. I liked in particular that there was a contrast between the two ladies, Laurie being a single workaholic who is used to the busy streets of London, and Rachel being a devoted mother who loves the easy pace of country life and home-baking. I really enjoyed seeing how both of these characters coped when thrown into each other’s lifestyle, and it was very compelling to read. I felt myself connecting with both Rachel and Laurie – I laughed at their mishaps, I cringed with them when they found themselves in embarrassing situations, and I really felt for them during the hardships too. I LOVED my time with them, as I felt myself travelling on his journey with them, and I was quite sad to finish the story and leave Laurie and Rachel behind.

The descriptions of the two settings are brilliant. Yorkshire in particular, and the small villages within, are depicted as picturesque, beautiful, homely little places, and I was immediately drawn in by its charm. With the added Christmas theme, I even felt warm and Christmassy as I was reading, and I think it was a perfect setting for the book.

Abby Clements has created a wonderful story, and one thing I particularly liked about Meet me Under The mistletoe was that not only were the main characters developed, but the supporting characters were also very well-written and came across as very real and lifelike – I can not fault a single character. Milly, Rachel’s daughter, was very well-written and even though I’m not a teenager myself, I found I could relate to her and I understood her. Up in Yorkshire, Diana, Joyce and co. came across so well, their personalities shone from the pages so much that I almost felt that I was Laurie stood in the room with them, and after reading this book, I’m very keen to visit Yorkshire again!

Meet Me Under The Mistletoe is warm, it is light-hearted – though there are a few surprises and twists to keep you hooked! This story is the perfect one to help ease you into the mood for Christmas, and to be a gentle reminder that not only is it nice to have a change of scenery every now and again, but so long as you have family, friends or people you love around you at Christmas, then life really is beautiful.

After reading Amelia Grey's Fireside Dream this year, when I found out that the author, Abby Clements, had written a Christmas-themed book, I put it straight on my must-read list for this year's festive season. I bought the book a few months ago, but as soon as the calendar announced that it was December, I couldn't resist picking it up and reading it! This story leads up to Christmas day and certainly has the right amount of Christmas spirit!

I really enjoyed the build up of the holiday excitement that this book created and the festive atmosphere that it conjured - it is a really good book to get you into the Christmas mood. This book doesn't drown you in Christmas though, so I think that it would be a fantastic read at any time of the year.

Abby Clements has such a lovely way of writing. Her writing is simple, fluid and so easy to read, it's a page turner and very easy to lose track of time when you're reading. However, despite the simplicity, the book is not missing anything, nothing feels inadequate - there is just the right amount of substance and enough detail to make the characters seem authentic and the settings realistic. There are surprisingly quite a few different issues with different characters in this book, but it really is well balanced and well paced so that there is no risk of becoming bored. Another positive in to this book was that it was refreshingly unpredictable - there were a couple of twists to the story that I really was not expecting!

I can honestly say that I liked all of the characters in this novel. Laurie and Rachel were our main characters and two very different people, lifestyle wise, but it was obvious to see why they made such a great pair of friends. Though they have different personalities, it was very easy to warm to them both and I felt like I was making new friends alongside the other characters in the book. It wasn't just Laurie and Rachel that impressed me though, all of the supporting characters were as equally well formed as our protagonists. Clements managed to create a surprisingly fun, older rural Yorkshire community and a very colourful and warm spirited community in urban London. The chemistry of the characters was interesting to watch and read about. I liked seeing the different characters help each other with their own individual thoughts and skills.

One of the issues that the characters faced was Milly, Rachel's teenage daughter, who became interested in a guy she met in their village pub. I thought Clements handled the subject amazingly well, in such a realistic way, despite the complications. I particularly enjoyed reading about Rachel's family relationships, seeing how they all pulled together throughout a difficult time.

Overall this book has confirmed what I already thought, Abby Clements is a very talented writer and her stories are just so easy to devour - I can't believe that this book was actually her debut novel, as she writes just as well, if not better, than many chick-lit authors with many years experience. I will definitely be keeping my eye on this author and check out whatever else she has to offer, it would only be a bonus if she wrote something else that was so festive! A top read for the winter months.

This lovely tail we meet the lovely ladies and they relationship, once they lives are turned upside down.

We get to meet Rachael the workaholic by heart and is top of her game the design business but in a spilt second her world comes crushing down in a error of judgement for the next wanna be handbag .

Rachael is ordered to take a break which she is not happy about she can't remember the last time she took some time off.

While Rachael is having a meltdown for taking time of work her best friend is battling her own crisis , as her mother in law has become very sick and as to be seen by a London Hospital for tests, so she calls her best friend and asks for help which comes at the right time they need a place to stay while having hospital visits and Rachael needs to escape from London. Rachael is running from Jay , the man she fell in love and the relationship that would have never even worked and now she is living in the same building as him and for two whole weeks she is not at work that's means a number of run ins that she would like to avoid at all costs.

It was settled Laurie and children would move up with Bea to attend hospital visits, Aiden her husband would join them in a few days but his business could not afford him to be away for a minuet.

When Rachael jumps of the train in the middle of no where and just about finds the cottage that will be her home for the next two weeks at least, but on her first night she manages to smoke out the kitchen due to never using an arga before!!! She finally finds that instructions left by Laurie on how to survive in the cottage and village but the first job on her holiday was to paint the walls before Laurie got back. Mean while on the other end Laurie is trying to keep some balance in her stressful life right now and takes the children for a day out in London to see the sights has she feels they spend more time at the hospital than doing family things.

Also in this wonderful tail you have Laurie's 15 year old daughter Millie's strong entwine with theirs as she is growing older and has met a guy but cant talk to her mum about it so she goes to the next best person Auntie Rachael. and see the relationship between Millie and the guy involve and even thou Millie believes she is a lady deep down she is still a little girl...

Over time Rachael settles into her new way of life fine tuning her baking skills and attending village meetings with the locals and finds herself revamping the locals clothes for better items and even sets up a fashion show to raise money, but Laurie end can be far from Happy as the doctors have found a tumour in Bea brain, even thou Aiden is there he is working all the time and the stress and pressure is making her fell out control of her life. On a positive note she is making friends with Lily and Jay who live in Rachael's building. she becomes close to Jay and even goes to one of his gigs to find out that he is still in love Rachael if only she knew.

Through out the book each page unfolds , and you read how they deal with what life throws at them but will this make their relationship stronger or tear them apart. go grab and copy and find out you will not be disappointed.

Christmas is by far my favourite time of the year and as soon as Halloween is over with I allow myself to start getting a little bit excited for it! This means starting on my festive chick-lit books that I look forward to reading all year and at the very top of that pile this year was Meet Me Under The Mistletoe and so on November 1st I pulled this one down from the shelf and prepared myself for a heart-warming festive read and this book certainly delivered!

The book begins on November 20th with chapters alternating between Laurie and Rachel two very different leading ladies. Laurie and Rachel were best friends during high school but over the years have fallen out of touch as life has taken them down separate paths. Laurie is a city girl who works for a big fashion company in London and Rachel lives in the countryside and is a stay at home mum. But when things start going wrong in both women’s lives during the countdown to Christmas, life throws them back together again when they agree to do a house swap to take a break and get their affairs in order. Needless to say the plot has a similar feel to that of the Christmas movie The Holiday which is one of my all-time favourites and if you’re a fan of that film I think that you’ll enjoy this book’s theme too.

I love when books have more than one main character and I thought that it worked particularly well for this book. Prior to reading, in other reviews I read that you’re either a Laurie or a Rachel kind of gal and I’d definitely say that I’m a Laurie. That’s not to say that I disliked Rachel I just connected with Laurie more and enjoyed her chapters the most. I think that having two very different heroines works in this books favour because whether you’re single or have a family, are a city girl or a country bumpkin, there is a lovable heroine for all to relate to.

Meet Me Under The Mistletoe was the perfect book to get me in the festive mood and is a brilliant read for this time of year. The beginning starts off as pretty much your usual chick-lit and the Christmas spirit builds as the book goes on leading up to and finishing on Christmas day, but will the girls be home and have their problems sorted in time for Christmas?

I finished this book with a big grin on my face and it left me with a warm Christmassy glow long after I put it down. Meet Me Under The Mistletoe was the perfect book to kick off this year’s Christmas reading with, and what I enjoyed about it most was that unlike a lot of chick-lit novels I had no idea who either girl was going to end up kissing under the mistletoe! This was a sparkling, fun, Christmas story that fans of the genre won’t want to miss!

Rachel and Laurie are friends since school days but they grew apart as Laurie pursued a career as a fashion designer and Rachel founded a family with her husband Aidan in a romantic cottage in Yorkshire.
Both womens lifes are turned upside town when Laurie gets discharged from her job in London and Rachel‘s mother-in-law has to have medical treatments in London. And then there‘s Milly, Rachel‘s teenage daughter, who exchanges e-mails with a stranger ... The friends decide to swap homes. While Laurie finds herself in Yorkshire, discovering what she really needs in life, Rachel explores what strenght lies in herself - what leads her to making the choice of getting a job in the end.
The whole book is dominated by strong, independent women of all sort of ages. It starts with Rachel‘s mother-in-law and ends with Laurie‘s neighborhood girlfriends.
What stuck with me most, was that apart from all the Christmas-y feelings, the book really focused on the women’s development, even the side characters discovered some growth in confidence. The book shows beautifully how strenght can lay in ever woman, whether she is a housewife, a business woman, a grandmother, single, married or divorced. In every woman lays the capability to discover her own potential and to bring joy to the people around her with her special and unique gifts.

I had read a few of Abby's books before and enjoyed them therefore, I thought that this book would also be a good one. When I had first started the book, I was intrigued by the storyline of Rachel and Laurie, and their friendship over time. However, as the book went on, I became quite confused with all of the storylines that were taking place at once. From Bea's illness, to Aiden's work conflicts, to Milly's potential boyfriend, and Laurie's volunteer position. I felt that the plot kept shifting from one individual to the next, with little room for the reader to really grasp the storyline of one main character. I also felt that each of the storylines were rushed, which made it unenjoyable to read most of the time. I would have hoped that more information were to be given for each character, but, we were unfortunately, left in the dark through most of the book. I definitely wasn't a big fan of this book however, will see about reading a few other books of Abby's to see if they are like the first two that I had read.
