Spoiler, bitches.

Okay first of all, I hope Katsura Hoshino's health would be better now so that she can work faster with the next installment of D Gray-man. I know, it's kinda rude and tacky, but *shrugs*. Hope you're better, senpai.

Alright let's do this.

I think it's pretty obvious that I love this manga because I've been following it since 2012. Allen's journey, from finding his asshole of a Master at first, to uncovering the secrets of Noah's Ark became more demanding and intense.

Last chapter, we know that Allen was being confronted by the Earl and they have some major issues to resolve.

Then this thing happen.

description

I'm all like:

FUCK ME GENTLY, WHO IZ DAT AGAIN?!

And I was like , Oh yes. It's Howard Link aka BABE

Then this happened that put my panty in a twist:

description

OH MY GOD OH MY GOD I CAN'T BREATHE.

description

THEN THE CHAPTER ENDS AND I HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL WHO-KNOWS-WHEN TO READ THE NEXT CHAPTER.

I can't believe Katsura Hoshino hasn't released any new chapters in D.Gray-Man. I feel like abducting her just to find out what will happen next. I was surprised to realise that even though this was the third time reading these chapters, that I've missed a few things before. Now I am even more curious! But it's been two years now, I think, since the last chapter... Why are you killing us, Katsura?

I want more. I want more. I want more. I want more. I want more. I want more. I want more. I want more. I want more. I want more. I want more. I want more. I want more. I want more. I want more. I want more. I want more. I want more. I want more. I want more. I want more. I want more. I want more. I want more. I want more. I want more. I want more. I want more. I want more. I want more. I want more.

Second read: So this volume teases with some secrets about the Fourteenth, Nea, and his relation with the Millennium Earl as well as Mana. The slow drip of information is both great and extremely frustrating, especially considering the release schedule (see my earlier "I want more" lol)

This volume does have one translation that makes me raise an eyebrow, though.

Also, the having that sketchy quality to them was a nice touch.

Wow, Link is sure looking pretty in this volume! Like, Kanda-pretty. I like it!!!! ;-D I want this series to be continued so badly, but especially because I'd love to see Kanda as a . I think he'd be good at at; he has a sense of honor and duty to the Order, despite everything that's happened to him, unlike a certain that shall remain nameless! ;)

I read that this is the final installment for now, on various sites, though it's not technically an ending. Supposedly, the artist, Hoshino, is sick or has arthritis (sickness=arthritis, maybe?) and new material hasn't appeared in well over a year (in magazines, which is the content that later makes up these books, Volume 24 having been released in the US on 8/9/14). I really hope this isn't the end because I love these characters so much, but I guess that just means once I'm done with this volume, series reread!

3.5/5 Ugh the end of this volume makes my head hurt. Some bizarre reveals that ask more questions then they answer. That and this volume suffers from a infuriating lack of Lenalee. 2 volumes left until I’m caught up. I’m still preparing my self to be aggravated.

Seems Allen is pretty terrible at hiding. Shortly after Kanda and Johnny find him so does everyone else. Allen’s mental and physical capabilities are still being screwed up by Nea the ever awakening 14th Noah. Really the entire order seams to be running on empty.

It feels like there are more plots than characters in this manga but I must continue.

A nice cover featuring Link

Amazing, me encanta.

What’s inside Allen is getting the upper hand and his hunters are getting closer. Kanda tussles with one of those hunters, only to be offered an opportunity with the Order he never thought he’d get. A victim thought dead turns out to not only be alive and kicking, but to have abilities he’s kept hidden, and loyalties which are far more complex than anyone suspected. Not even Allen knows what side he’s on, if he’s still the person he was.

So much happened with so many revelations. Backstory unfurls at a speed to be quite dizzying, yet exciting. Readers are given time to breathe as the artwork becomes more beautiful than ever. Not to mention overwhelming. Once again I’m eager to find out what will happen next.

This is the arc in which I originally stopped reading due to lack of updates. It's great to get back into the series, since it was one of the shonen manga in which I genuinely liked the protagonist.
Rereading that I still hate Rouvelier and his delusions of grandeur urg.

I also remember how hyped I was when these flashbacks first appeared. Finally more lore and I hope that I'll finally find out more about the connection between Neah and Allen. And more of Mana too, I guess.

The chapters in this were really interesting, but for the most part it just feels like buildup...

Master Zu imparted atuuda to inspector Link before he passed away, saving him. Inspector Link is working outside of the order for Inspector Rouvelier. Allen hurts Johnny in a relapse of turning into the fourteenth. Johnny is determined to help Allen no matter what and stay with him. Apocryphos finds Allen and defeats Yu, but spares him for now.

This was a volume of heavy things happening. Yet in this volume it showed Allen Walker at his most desperate as the battle he's having with the Fourteenth is just heartbreaking to watch. Yet I loved the slight moment of levity before things sank back into the horror only paid off by the revolution at the end.

The plot is getting deeper and the twist is just around the corner. I've lost faith in scanlation, moving to the official translated tankobon is the best choice I've made (except for Initial D). I just love the Noah's even more in this tankobon, not sure why though.

The story continues

Another manga down, I really enjoy this author's illustrations. It is still hard to estimate how much longer the series will be.

More of the same, although the earl has finally shown up. Maybe the Apocrypha will be dealt with due to him being there. Somehow, I'm doubting it.

At this point I really think the plot has gotten away from the mangaka and has become something of a convoluted mess. I didn't realize though, until I saw other goodread reviews that the manga is on indefinite hiatus due to the mangaka's illness. If this ever gets going again I'll have to reread from the beginning.

Even rereading the volume before this didn't really help with this one. SPoilers from here on in.

Link is alive and is suddenly pretty. Like very pretty. Granted I'm glad he's alive because I learned to like him. At this point Link is sort of gone rogue (on orders) which is bad for a Crow. Kanda is also walking that line along with Johnny and the stricken Allen who may no longer be Allen. He might be fully Noah at this point, as Johnny nearly dies finding out.

Lots of bad and confusing crap happens. Link's life came at a high cost. God only knows where Lenali and Lavi are. We haven't seen them in forever (ditto most of the other exorcists we actually knew by name). Kanda had a great fight scene (he looks so pretty doing it).

This is a terrible place for the manga to come to an end. It's hard to find an answer to this illness (I think it's arthritis but I'm not sure. All I know is that this is a second manga I've followed that's come to an abrupt pseud-ending because of the illnesses of the creators. How sad). Maybe we'll see more some day or at least enough to give this some sort of closure even if she's unable to continue the manga as she might have wanted to.

~3/5

I have not read any of the previous volumes in this series, nor have I seen any of the anime. So I was going into this volume pretty much blind, aside from the little recap at the beginning of the volume.

I was confused throughout this volume. Everything in the previous volumes is a mystery to me, including how their powers and politics work, and the relationships between everyone. Some of the powers, like the things that come out of people’s eyes, seemed gross to me. I’m pretty much confused by most of what happened in this volume—the entire plot didn’t make a lot of sense to me.

I was intrigued, though, particularly by the characters. Everyone has a history with each other, and I was interested in that, in how it came about. There are a lot of characters, too, and we only saw a handful of them in this volume, but I was interested in how they got to where they are now. And I’m glad that the confusing plot wasn’t so bad that it turned me off from the series.

I don’t know if I’ll pick up more volumes of the manga, since I’m already so far behind, but I might give the anime a try. It looks interesting enough for that.

A review copy (of both) was provided by the publisher, VIZ Media, and Erik Jansen from MediaLab PR. Thank you so, so much!

A great book, with a horrible cliffhanger. HOW IS MANA THE ROOT OF EVERYTHING? TELL US!!! I'm so glad Komui's discussion room has returned, especially with characters running it being ones that are so consequential in the story line. Their conversations are pure gold, like where did Hoshino come up with this? 'I'll just take these characters that are enemies, stick them into a discussion room, make them act civil towards each other, but still in character.' It's great. Wazurii (I think that's how to spelled.) is hilarious and is definitely on my top 5 character list. And the argument between the Exorcists and the Noah over the heroine being Lenalee or Road was ever funnier.
Some people say that D. Gray man is stupid, confusing, or a copy of Bleach or Blue Exorcist, but I wholeheartedly disagree and dare them to say that to my face. If they have the nerve to insult my favorite manga, they will not have a happy day.

Only got into this series very recently - continually gives thanks that I arrived after the hiatus! As for this instalment - am absolutely floored by how stunning the artwork is, and how emotive this volume is as a whole. (Plus the more Nea the better!)

Katsura Hoshino will forever be an inspiration.
