Hitting on the Hooker by Mina Carter is a quick hot read, just the kind I love for my lunch breaks!!! I will admit I had to google what a "hooker" was cause I'm not familiar with rugby. The term is referenced several times in the book so I was curious but a knowledge of rugby is definitely not required to enjoy this extremely hot read.
Hitting on the Hooker features Fern Morgan who is stood up for a date and just when she is about to leave when hottie Tom Sexton approaches her. With instant chemistry, Fern decides to break her dry spell and head home with Tom. I enjoyed this novella, definitely a keeper!

I don't know what it is about this novel but I absolutely love it. So much I've read it several times over.
Talk about hot and sexy. The only thing is that it's too short. I mean really really short. I shouldn't complain since it was free but still, I wish it was longer. For a novella that's only 33 pages, my engines were revved up real quick.

This is a fast and dirty little story about a date that went bad and a one night stand that went well. Verrrrrrry well. Fern wasn't interested in scoring a rugby player until Tom had her locked in his sights. Then it was all smoldering looks and steamy moments.
Definitely short, but with enough heat to have you itching to check out a rugby game or two. Why? One word: Stamina.

I have to admit, I did not realise this was a series of novelettes when I agreed to read them, but that did not stop me from enjoying them.
It is hard to get a lot of information into a story that is only 33 pages long, but Mina Carter has managed it well.
Fern and Tom's attraction is instan, and a good dose of insta-lust has things heating up pretty darn quick (well, I guess it has to be in such a short story!)
What was different that I liked was that Tom was insecure with his looks. We are used to this in the female characters, but this was a fresh change.
There is only so much that can happen in a novelette, but I did enjoy what we got. Would love a full length story of the Strathstow Sharks

Fern is stood up for a date and just as she is to leave the hottie Tom approaches her. It was nice to see Tom have some insecurities about his physical appearance along with his leading lady. They are well matched and their chemistry is intense, which makes for some steamy hot sex. I will say I wish it was a full-length novel, but Ms. Carter knows how to write a novella that provides use with a story.

I have said it before and I'll say it again: Ms. Carter excels at writing a novelette that provides so much story in just a few pages that you don't feel cheated. Do I wish it were a full-length novel? Yes. I love her writing style and her characters are so endearing that I would love to spend more time with them. Hitting on the Hooker is no exception.
I appreciate the occasional male character who has some insecurities about his physical appearance, especially when his leading lady has similar concerns about herself. Tom and Fern are so well matched and their chemistry is intense, which makes for some really hot sex.
I picked Hitting on the Hooker up as a freebie after reviewing Playing with the Prop for our blog and I am so glad that I did. This is a definite reread for me and Ms. Carter has been added to my must read list. I cannot wait to start Seduced by the Scrum-Half.

Oh my! Alpha Male!!!
Fern and Tom were such an endearing couple. I really enjoyed getting points of view from both of the characters, which gave a greater depth to the story. "Hitting On The Hooker" had great characters, a great plot, and a great set-up for what could be an awesome series about ruggedly handsome rugby players....

I like these short sexy romps, they make great inbetweeners, something light to read just before I go to sleep or after a particularly heavy emotional book.
That said, the reason I only give them 3 stars is that while I enjoyed them, I would really have liked to see more of this story. Mina Carter has the talent to make some of these shorts into something amazing.

Short and hot. A great little novella about a girl stood up at a bar who, as she is leaving, meets a star rugby player and decides to chance a one night stand. I know nothing about rugby but I liked this steamy little book so much that I immediately bought another one by this same author.

I think I may be in the minority but I didn't find this little read hot and steamy. I actually felt disconnected and I felt it was all over the place. There was one good sex scene but for the most part it was a little boring.. 2 stars.

I guess I didn't read very carefully because this is just a very short story!
Fern is sitting at the bar finishing her drink alone as she got stood up. In walks Tom and his whole team to celebrate. Tom decides he wants Fern and they walk out together for a 1 night stand... That's it :)

Mina Carter always writes these short sexy stories really well and this one is no different. The characters had plenty of chemistry, I just wish we got to know them a little better.

I liked Hitting on the Hooker, but I felt that it ended just as it was beginning. I wished that there was more about Fern and Tom’s developing relationship as I would have liked to spend more time with them.

This is another great story from Mina Carter. I know I am reading them out of order but hey, what can I say. At least I am reading them. Tom and the team go to the bar and when he gets everyone settled he sees someone at the bar that he wants to get to know in an intimate way. Fern is tired of being let down by men. So she thinks she will finish her drink and go home. that is until Tom sits beside her. They have this current flowing between them and neither wants to deny it. This series is steaming hot with sexy men. Makes me want to learn about Rugby. Another great fun read from Mina Carter and I loved it too. Would have liked to have a little more, it is only about 33 pages but a fun quick read.

First off, gotta love the title! Don’t worry though, he’s a Rugby player. This book marks the first of the Sharks Series, about a team of rugby players- delicious, yummy, muscular, rugby players. Fern was stood up for a date, and while she was ready to head out, the Shark team came in post game for some drinks. When Tom saw her, it was on.
This is a wonderful erotic story, without being erotica (if that makes sense). It doesn’t seem like much time is taken to develop the characters, yet both have a surprising depth. Their personal insecurities, even in the face of overwhelming attraction makes them realistic and more human.
This book is a hot, hot, hot read. I can not wait to get my hand on the next book in the series, but I’ll have to be patient. I would strongly recommend this book to anyone looking for a good story with a HAE.

Loved the play on words with the title. A very good erotic short story. Very short and to the point. I marked it as a 4 star rather than a 5 only because I was disappointed. I feel that this story would have been great as a full length novel. The writing and style were on target and the build up in characterization was wonderful.
I must admit when purchasing this and seeing the next two in the series were also short, I was not expecting much at all. I presumed, wrongly, that the author didn't have what it would take to write a full novel, hense the short stories. I'm glad I was wrong but am really hoping there is more about this couple in the next stories.
I recommend this story to 14+ and mature enough to know this is a story and not something that would be good to copy for themselves.

More of a short story than a novella, really...
Everything here happens very quickly. Fern's stood up by a guy from work and still sitting at the bar where they were supposed to meet when the local (and rowdy) rugby team shows up. She notices Tom (the "hooker") right away, and he notices her as well--approaching her, hitting on her, they kiss and leave together.
(I had to forget 2/3 of all the Forensic Files episodes I'd ever watched at this point...)
After a night of fantastic sex, they're both contemplating a future in the morning, and...story over. This story definitely could have been expanded into a longer work. I really liked both Fern and Tom, and what was here was enjoyable, but not quite enough.
Rating: 3 1/2 stars / C+

Hitting on the Hooker (Strathstow Sharks, #1) by Mina Carter is an Adult Erotic Romance Short. It takes a lot of talent to pack a punch in a short story, and this one is about 33 pages. Ms. Mina Carter has that amazing talent. You quickly get inside the characters heads and Ms. Carter waste no time nor words to wow you with ADULT action.
This wasn't my favorite of hers so far, BUT it more than entertained me and was more than worth the time and money to read it.
Mina Carter! You amaze me with your ability to make me love 'Serial Shorts'. Until you came into my Kindle, I was seriously thinking of never reading another one. You have changed my mind completely.

Tom and Fern's story. She is nursing a drink waiting for her date to show or not show. Once she realizes that she has been stood up AGAIN she switches to harder liquor and vows to never date again. Tom and his mates come into the bar after a match and are immediately surrounded by groupies. He is the player who watches out for everyone else and once they are settled he notices Fern and is smitten. Not the groupie type her subdued style peaks his interest and his libido. When he sees her start to leave he moves in like the "shark" he is and captures her attention and her presence in his bed for the night (and if he has his way for the rest of his nights). Great characters, great banter. Fun, fun read.
