Basierend auf dem Erfolgstitel "Das Anti-Hacker-Buch" beschreiben die Autoren in diesem Buch aktuelle Hacking-Szenarien, wie sie speziell auf Linux angewandt werden können. Sie gehen dabei von Schwachstellen aus, die Linux als offenes Betriebssystem bietet. Auf dieser Grundlage werden dann Methoden und Möglichkeiten aufgezeigt, um Linux und seine verschiedenen Komponenten zu "hacken". Dazu gehören neben dem Systemkern vor allem die integrierten Netzwerkprotokolle und -dienste und Linux-typische Anwendungsdienste wie z.B. Mail, Web oder FTP. Anschließend werden die Gegenmaßnahmen durchgespielt, mit den Sysads oder Power User, die Linux in ihrem Netz bzw. auf ihrem Rechner im Einsatz haben.

Bri Hatch is Chief Hacker at Onsight, Inc. where he is a Unix/Linux and network security consultant. His clients have ranged from major banks, pharmaceutical companies and educational institutions to major California web browser developers and dot-coms that haven't failed. He has taught various security, Unix, and programming classes for corporations through Onsight and as an adjunct instructor Northwestern University. He has been securing and breaking into systems since before he traded in his Apple II+ for his first Unix system. He is also co-maintainer of Stunnel, an Open Source secure SSL wrapper used around the world to encrypt cleartext protocols.

Le livre est un peu ancien, plus de 10 ans.
Il constitue, en son temps, un guide pratique pour sécuriser un système Linux.
Avec le recul, ce genre de livres anciens ne mérite pas une lecture minutieuse mais un survol très rapide. La preuve, j'ai pris 50 jours pour le finir !!!
