A soldier home from hell. A furry, lost friend. A last request.
When you’re at war, there’s always the risk of never making it home. Of losing friends and team mates. For Graham Knowles, losing his brother to one last mission is the ultimate loss. But instead of drowning in grief, there’s a last request. Find Jake.
Being the accountant for his uncle’s no kill shelter, Wyatt Daniels has seen more than his fair share of animals processed and placed in new homes. But when a beautiful German Shepard with soulful eyes and more smarts than most people comes through, well, he can’t resist. He takes the sweet boy home.
Finally tracking down Jake, Graham gets more than his furry friend back. He meets the man of his dreams. Wyatt feels the connection too. However, his track record with men is rocky at best. Undaunted, Graham promises to go slow despite wanting Wyatt so bad, his teeth ache.
Unfortunately, not all are happy that Wyatt and Graham are dating. And when Wyatt is kidnapped, Graham has to use every skill at his disposal to get him back. Even at the risk of losing his new job working for Uncle Sam.
Hmm, about me... Well, not too much to tell. I was a reader before I ever became a writer. I live in a small town in North Carolina with my extremely spoiled German shepard. My son is grown, out on his own, and starting a family of his own. Still don't feel like a grandma. I write erotica, paranormal, futuristic, comtemporary, and m/m. I'm slowly but surely building up my library with new stories and interesting characters. Who knows what I'll come up with next. But to get what's already out, you can purchase them here - www.allromanceebooks.comwww.amazon.com & B&N. I'm on FB and Twitter. Stop by and drop me a line. I love hearing from fans and readers.
I got this one as a freebie on amazon….so I feel a bit bad about my review, but only a little bit.
What can be said in favor of the story is that I finished reading it. I was close to DNF when at the last 20% the story took a surprise turn away from pages of sappiness to a bit more thrilling development.
Okay, I’m sure there are readers who enjoyed this book and I actually would recommend it to everybody who has no problems with guys who act emotionally all the time, instalove and humanized dog behavior. If you love romance where the MCs declare their love to each other all the time and think about how their life has improved since they met the other one – go for it.
For those readers who have had enough of the stereotyped characters and the sappy dialogues – stay away. You’ll get bored. I did. Example: “Having you with me today, it made me realize how empty I’ve been all these years. Even with JJ, I felt something missing, a hole that nothing seemed to fill. And after his death, it became worse. I felt like a hollow shell.” “Graham,” Wyatt whispered, tears starting to gather. “Finding Jake gave me a goal, a purpose to go on. But finding you.” He took Wyatt’s hand and kissed his palm. “Finding you has filled that emptiness, Wyatt. Made me whole for the first time in my life. I never thought I could ever be this happy.” When the first tear spilled down Wyatt’s cheek, he leaned over and gave Graham a loving kiss. “I feel like I was born for you, Graham.”
This is a good example on what to expect. You’ll either love it or you run screaming ;)
After 4/5 emotional story with man, man and dog, loss and love, in the last fifth of the book we suddenly get a sudden turn of events that actually tries to reconnect Graham with his badass Special Forces side when he has to rescue Wyatt. I think the book is the built-up to some kind of secret-ops series but in that case it failed. A heap of new (seems to be mostly gay) characters are cramped into this last part. Not feeling the tough guy vibe at all.
So…I’ve finished it but I’m not tempted to look for another book of this author. I feel kind of sorry. Thus said, there are enough enthusiastic reviews out there.
The story is sometimes jumbled (first chapter has two sections and the first section is two weeks after the second (confusing much?), it's also filled with purple prose, insta-love on steroids, and switches from uber-fluffy loving romance to suspense thriller with the kidnapping of Wyatt late in the final quarter.
Even with all of that, the so-so editing, the obvious plot, and everything else...I enjoyed it. Enough that I just might check out the next book in the series.
Goodreads, you frickin' suck. I'm so tired of writing an online review on to have the website hang and lose what I might have spent an appreciable amount of time writing.
So, this book featured Wyatt, the classic "damsel in distress". Can't tell you how much I dislike that.
The writing was sophomoric at best. The dialog was so saccharine my teeth ached. I needed eye drops to sooth my constantly rolling eyes. Insta-love, another trope I dislike.
And the sex scenes. Just...no.
As a former dog breeder/exhibitor, I was very skeptical of the author's actual knowledge of police/war dogs, and of the German Shepherd breed in general. Yes, I know she has one or more GSDs, but that does not an expert make. Guess I'm just fussy about this stuff.
The plethora of misspellings, incorrect punctuation, and missing words was stunning.
So! Not my cuppa and last book I buy by this author.
True rating: 2.5 - this was just ... WHOA ... too insta-everything. Things moved so quickly I thought I'd be in danger of whiplash. I have no problem with the super sweet insta-love etc. books once in a while ... at times, especially after a difficult book, that's what you need. But man oh man, this was waaaaaay over the top. All I could do was sit there and go "uh, what?". This was too much :-/.
Can't say it better than Sunne Manello. Just want to add that most probably I would have loved it when I started reading M/M. But since then obviously my expectations have changed.
I’ll admit, the first scene in this book made me teary.
Graham has just received a letter his dead brother wrote to him immediately before leaving on a mission in Afghanistan. A mission he never returned from. In the letter his brother asks that, should he not return, Graham finds his dog, Jake, and give him a home. Which is easier said than done. Unfortunately, the old lady who was entrusted with dog sitting duties has died and Jake has been taken to a shelter and adopted.
Wyatt volunteers at a no-kill animal shelter run by his uncle and aunt. From the moment he sees Jake locked in a cage he feels a bond with the animal. There’s no question that he’ll be taking the dog home.
Graham finally manages to track down Jake, and Wyatt is forced to give up his new best friend. They arrange to meet at the shelter and Wyatt arrives just in time to see Graham walking towards them with a big smile. Queue the insta-love. And by instant, I mean instant. The word soul mate is thrown about within twenty-four hours of meeting.
Wyatt discovers Graham has just purchased a house that is practically right next-door, which makes dating simple. Or rather, it would make dating simple except Graham has a secret he can’t share with his new boyfriend.
This “secret”, which every man and his dog seemed to end up knowing, was a little hard to swallow. In my opinion the story’s sweet romance between the two main characters didn’t mesh with the parts to do with Graham’s secret life.
I also didn’t quite believe the romance between Graham and Wyatt. The lust, yes, but I wasn’t feeling the love. Maybe it was just that it all happened so fast. Honestly, the book began strong, the first scenes really hooked me in, but after the main characters got together I found myself struggling to pay attention in a few places.
Hands down, Jake was the best character in the book. That dog was the star of the show. Not only did Jake bring our main characters together but he was also pivotal in saving Wyatt at the end of the book. I did enjoy hearing about the damage he inflicted on the bad guy he attacked. Kimberly Hunter has a wicked sense of humor!
The best scene in the book also goes to Jake. There’s a touching moment in the cemetery when Jake seems to understand that the grave he’s standing on is where his old master is buried. Although, side note here. Can dogs cry? I don’t mean howling. And not teary eyes because they have grit in them. I mean crying tears because they’re sad. Because I was thrown when Jake starts crying. In fact, I had to stop reading to Google, can dogs cry? I didn’t get a definitive answer but I’m leaning towards a no.
What disappointed me most about this book were the abundant stereotypes when it came to most every character in the story. Graham and his “secret” friends are buff, tough and crazy good looking. The men who need rescuing are mostly smaller and cute. There are hints that all the tough men and all the cute men are gay. Then there are the bad guys, who include the mega rich abusive ex, the evil deputy sheriff and the fanatical bigot.
Having said all that, I didn’t dislike this book and I see that most readers enjoyed it more than I did. I’d definitely check out any future books about the secondary characters introduced in Rescued By Love. I’m assuming this will become the first book of a series.
Oh, and one last mention. Serious props for the ThunderCats reference. Making your main character crush on Lion-O surely deserves some bonus points.
I was given this book for an Honest Review. Graham Knowles is home for good now after serving his country. He learns his big brother by 11 mnths died along with most of his team. As Graham opens the box containing his brother personal items , he finds a letter from his brother. His last request is that he finds his dog Jake and take care of him. This starts him on a quest were he meets Wyatt Daniels a lonely man who has been Jakes care taker after he had been brought in by the Sheriff to his Aunt and Uncles no-kill shelter.. The attraction is instantaneous between Graham and Wyatt. The takes things slowly as both have baggage they need to deal with. The friendship comes first and than the love. Jake plays a key role in bring these 2 men together for a lifetime of love. Others would do anything to stop this, including kidnapping.
I have read a many M/M books and this one is right up there with the best of M/M books. I fell in love with these men as I got to learn more about each. Jake the dog is such an important part of both these men and shows how much one can love a dog. The slowness these men take to get to know each other and seeing the bigotry of others really hits on romance and real life. The Arlington scenes had me bawling so much emotion in such wonderful wording. The sexual scenes are right on, lots of heat. The love the two come to have for each other is so moving. What a wonderful book, every scene in this book moves you to come to love all three of the characters. I Highly Recommended This Book to anyone wanting to read a very loving, sensual, emotional read!
Well..the idea of this story was pretty cute actually. A younger brother came home from war, wish to fulfill his older brother's last request, find his dog. Not only he's found the dog, he's also found the man of his dreams. Cute isn't it?
But, I have my pros and cons, off course.... PROS 1. The Dogs; bunch of adorable german shepherd ♥ 2. Graham's team; bunch of testosterone with skills working together... I cant breathe... 3. The cemetery scene; made me bawling...
CONS 1. Info dumps; felt like reading a wikipedia page rather than a story 2. Butt plug; JUST.NO
This was a great story! Had it on my TBr for the longest and so glad it went on Kindle freebie! It left me wanting so much more and hoping this will turn into a sdries! The secondary characters are almost as good as the MCs. This story was the ultimate in hurt/comfort military style. Graham's opening chapter was heartbreaking and total tear jerker. His spark with Wyatt was totally instant but who could deny that kind of fire! Very hot, kinda kinky between these two, sweet, Jake rocks, the team is awesome, and I totally need more of Vincent!,
This book really hit me hard. My uncle was in Vietnam and fought. My family and I just buried him in fort snelling cemetery in March of this year. He passes from a heart peobelem but just reading of the military funeral's brought it all back. Had me in tears. Never had a book that hit me like this. I loved it. May read it again when its not so hard but I really really loved it.
Oh my goodness! Is this going to be a series? It reminds me of Maya Bank's KGI series or Lora Leigh's Elite OPs series!! Loved this book and hopefully a series or a sequel to see what happens between Vincent and Anderson.
February 2018 / re-read I don't know why I gave this book a bad rating the first time I read it. Probably, because of the very strong insta-love. But reading it for a second time, I liked Rescued by Love more.
There are a lot of times that writers in the M/M genera write the same storyline over and over. One of the new SL of this type is the wounded Veteran coming home scarred from war to find true Love. And it is true, in the hands of a less talented writer this can get quite mundane. But in the hands of a truly gifted author it can be a heartwarming confirmation of the universal truth that a REAL MAN can love another Man, regardless of the scars he bears.
Kimberly Hunter’s book, ‘Rescued by Love’ was very safe in Ms. Hunter’s hands. In a touching story we are introduced to an exceptional soldier, on a mission to fulfill his now dead brother's final wish. The trail leads him to a small town, and a lost dog, being cared for a man even more lost. Together they face bigotry, ignorance, hate, malicious intended men and a woman who is a force of nature in her own self. Together they face each new battle head on, back to back, fighting for their love and their relationship with everything they had.
I utterly fell in love with Graham and Wyatt and Jake. I found myself cheering them on, crying with them and feeling their pain and joy. There is a scene at the Arlington National Cemetery that took my breath away, leaving me crying like a babe and scaring the hell out of my husband, who feared I was losing my mind. With the holidays coming, cold weather moving in, do yourself and your heart a favor and get this book, a stiff drink and a warm blanket. Don’t forget the tissues.
I downloaded this book because I liked the cover and the blurb caught my attention. I have read only one other book (well novella) by Kimberly Hunter so I was intrigued.
Jake could easily be the star of the book. Lost dog, left stateside while owner & brothers: JJ and Graham are on tour overseas. Wyatt, a pet lover, works at his Uncle's no kill shelter. Both have to deal with their sorrows and heartaches before they can have their HEA.
But what I was NOT expecting was the emotional journal that Ms. Hunter was taking me on. I smiled, I laughed, I got mad, I smiled and giggled some more. Then a bawled like baby, smiled again and got seriously pissed off, only to cry again.
I don't how author Kimberly Hunter made it through writing Rescued by Love but to her, I am forever thankful for this story! I do realize it was published a few years ago but this is well worth the read. I hope to meet Graham, Wyatt and Jake again along with several of the secondary characters that are in "The Pit".
Thank you Kimberly Hunter *sigh* Thank you!
Before I go...THANK YOU to all the Men, Women, People and K-9's who serve and protect our country.
I really enjoyed this story. I liked both Graham and Wyatt, the two MCs. They meet under most unusual circumstances. While they are definitely attracted to each other right away, there are a lot of things that both of them bring to the relationship from their past experiences that encourage them to take their time. Graham has just gotten out of the military and lost his brother and best friend. Wyatt has not had good luck in the past in any relationship. He is not only shy but a bit skittish as well.
I appreciated that Graham took his time courting Wyatt :) I also liked that the author did not gloss over the grief that comes from losing someone so close. Graham's emotions are pretty raw as you would expect. I thought Wyatt was very understanding - have suffered through loss himself - and it brought them closer rather than pushing them apart.
I also like the supporting characters - particularly Wyatt's uncle, Vincent and Abigail. I really hope this turns into a series. There are so many stories that could be told here ;)
2.5 stars - A little too sappy at times and the scenes revolving the antagonists were a bit exaggerated, causing much eye rolling. Still, a decent read .
I wanted to like this read more than I did. Both the MCs were sympathetic, the dog was great, there were interesting supporting characters. I think Wyatt needs therapy. It was distressing to me that when the kidnapping happened, my reaction was "finally something is happening." There were a couple of times I checked my Kindle to see what percent of the story I had read because another Romance Novel Moment had come and gone....
Still, I liked a lot of the ideas in the book. I think if it were tightened up a bit I would have rated it higher. A reasonably good read.

I stumbled upon this book yesterday and I am so glad I did! This is an amazing story of loss, acceptance and love found. I couldn't put it down. The minute I met Graham , Wyatt and then Jake, that was it for me! A truly wonderful story. I am very grateful I found it and will be looking for more from this author. The secondary characters of Vincent and Abigail were wonderful to read. I am hoping Vincent gets his second chance at love. *fingers crossed*
Absolutely gut wrenching and so utterly beautiful! I laughed and cried so much throughout this entire story, it was an emotional story that was so worth the puffy eyes and runny nose. Graham and Wyatt were fated to meet and fall in love and that was an incredible journey to go along on. They were exceptional characters and I loved getting to know them. I do hope this will be a series because there were a lot of other amazing characters I'd like to get to know as well. GREAT BOOK!
What a beautiful love story!! There is some heart & gut wrenching parts In between, but mostly love. If you love heroes & dogs, you'll love this story :)For goodness sake.. Make sure to have plenty of tissues, you'll need them!! A TBR!! I' m hoping there will be more of Jake, Graham & Wyatt b/c I just love then & hopefully read more about the other guys as well.
