Perri is a determined, resourceful young woman who witnesses the death of her mother and has to deal with watching her beloved stepfather change in front of her eyes. Her mother's last words were about a pendant that she forces Perri to take from her and keep safe…a mystery is attached that keeps the reader wondering. On top of all that, her brother goes missing in Mexico, and after a phone call that tells of a threat to her brother's life, she hops on a plane to come to his rescue. But so does her stepdad who's really an undercover CIA agent….but then so is her brother!! Then Perri meets sexy, clever Hugh, and you're left to wonder if he is the "guy", you know the romantic element? Of course she has no idea he's been sent by her father to protect her. See what I mean? It's constant action and I loved it. The tale flows from being created by an author who knows how to tell a good story. Treat yourself!

I received a free copy of this book from the author and voluntarily chose to review it.
The story starts with a bang. Perri’s mother crashes her car right in front of her daughter and dies in her arms, but not before giving her a pendant. Perri doesn’t realize that the crash was engineered to kill her stepfather, who is in the CIA. No one has told her that both her stepfather and stepbrother work undercover for the CIA.
She rushes off to Mazatlan to help her stepbrother, not realizing that she was manoeuvered into a trap to catch him. In Mexico, she’s used by both sides. There is Walt, her stepfather, and Hugo, the man he trusts, who are trying to keep her safe. The baddest of the baddies, known as the Scorpion, is also after her stepbrother and he is deadly. Perri doesn’t know who to trust.
The story was fine and it was well written. It’s just that I had a hard time believing that Hugo, the man she became closest to, could fool her so easily. No matter how the author lets us know his skill in changing appearance, posture and attitude (read voice and accent), anyone with half a brain could see he was always the same person. Of course at the end, he reveals himself and all is right again with the world.
I read this book under the title “Scorpion’s Trail”.

For the most part I enjoyed this story, and although some parts weren't realistic, I did still get caught up in the action and kept turning the pages. The story came to life through the scenery as well as the action, which is how I enjoy stories, to be able to see it come alive in front of me.
Disappointed with use of strong language at the end of the story. Advertised as a clean story when I bought it, it was disappointing to have the word included, and that is reflected in my rating of this story.

The Sisters of Spirit series involves several young women who attended Virginia Tech around the same time. The group was started by cousins Stormy and Perri and included mainly western girls. Jennel left the group to start her business before most of the others joined. Two of their friends, Mary and Alison, asked to be included.
Perri travels to Mazatlan to help her step-father and finds intrigue and romance. Hugo knows someone must do the dirty jobs or the world would be a terrible place.
Warning: Possible Spoilers
Wow. How to describe this book.
For me, the heroine's unbelievable actions alone would make this a bad read, but add in the lack of a feasible contemporary story line and it makes this an epic fail.
