Room 103 #3

Denying Heaven

Rate this book
The third book in the Room 103 series--Bulk’s story

Love triangles… nasty things!
Especially if one of the trio is dead.

Bulk fell in love at sixteen. Shona was his heart, his soul, the meaning of his life.
Then she was killed… suddenly, horrifically and brutally.
He never had the chance to say goodbye, never had the chance to tell her how much he loved her. How much he breathed for her and how much her pregnancy with his child energized his life to the point of a motivation he had never experienced before.

Seven long, lonely, painful and comatose years later, Spirit, a guitarist for River’s Ink, takes Bulk’s shit, wraps it up and sucks it dry.
She takes his grief and kicks it to the curb.
She fights against him, with him and for him.
She wants him; she needs him and God, if he doesn’t need her right the hell back.
She’s everything Shona was; fun, full of live and so utterly breath taking she steals his breath with every smile, every word that leaves her pretty lips and each naughty twinkle in her eye.
But is Spirit what he actually needs to revive his life?

When Spirit’s secrets, a face from her past and her uncontrollable addiction to drugs and alcohol show their ugly heads, will Bulk shake his head and declare a final ‘No’ to life, or will he hold her tight, pull her close and fight her demons with her?

Will their fight for each other resurrect their deceased souls or will it invite the Devil to finally, once and for all, swallow them whole?

Out of suffering have emerged the strongest souls;
the most massive characters are sealed with scars. Khalil Gibran

This book contains explicit sex scenes, strong language, violence and substance abuse… oh, and one hell of an alpha male.
It is recommended that tissues are on stand-by and a shoulder is available to cry on.

Oh my God! This book still has me an emotional mess. Like I ugly cried while reading this book. Think Jack dying in titanic ugly crying and you'll get what I mean! It literally blew me away. The emotions from both the main characters is raw and heart breaking.

Bulk as you know from reading the first two previous room 103 books is in the band Room 103. This is his heart breaking story to tell now. He has went threw something g no one should have to. Loss so hard I'm still an emotional mess thinking it. I won't say what a U don't want to ruin it. But everyone who read the last book would have got a little sneak peek of what I'm on about.

Anyways the book then goes forward many years later and he is still struggling with this loss. It has him literally by the balls and he doesn't know how to get free. He's broken. But no one is broken beyond repair. And all of a sudden his life has a spark In it again. A heart that hasn't beating in seven years comes to life again and the reason why is Spirit.

No that's not code for a ghost. But this little spit fire of a women. Just as broken and shattered a he is. Finding solace in the bottom of a bottle or a bag stuff she shouldn't be taking. But anything that will numb the pain is a must for spirit. But can two broken and I mean utterly shattered people make each other whole again? Can you save someone when you yourself need saving? You can try,but but you need to save yourself. People can help and offer if constantly but it's up to you to fight and drag yourself from the darkness. This story will make you cry a mix of happy and sad tears. You will love Bulk and Spirit so much. But you will wanna slap them repeatedly for making you cry :-) Note to readers. Have tissues and alcohol at the ready you will Need it ;-)

Oh my freaking god! Yes, that’s how I would state my feelings for Denying Heaven. DH Sidebottom has done me in again, with the third installment in the Room 103 series. I heart the hell out of these boys, and this time around is no different. The characters are epic, and bring out such raw emotion; I’m in need of a box of Kleenex after every damn book!

This is Chase aka Bulk’s story, and what a tear your heart out, beyond emotional mess it is! This man has been through utter hell and back, but with the help of his band mates/best friends, he seems to keep it together. Little do most people know, he’s dying a slow agonizing death on the inside. Going through a tragic loss years before, he guards his heart and life by any means necessary.

While on tour with his band, Room 103, Bulk feeds his need for comfort with random women and alcohol. He later attracts the attention of Spirit, a member of River’s Ink, their opening act. Little does he know there is a whole lot more to her than some fun in between the sheets. They could be the death of each other, or a prayer in disguise! They are the epitome of two lost souls searching for their mates, and it’s bound to be the most challenging road they will face.

I have to say; my kindle almost got thrown a few times reading this emotionally draining story, but what a story it is! I love the no holds barred support Bulk has from his band mates. They’re like a huge family, guarding each other with everything they have. People tend to think bad boy, tatted rockers with no cares in the world, but what you get from these guys is love, understanding, and total support. I absolutely love this series, and DH Sidebottom is a rock star in her own right!

I give Denying Heaven 5 A-MA-ZING stars

*4.5* Exhausting, angsty stars. Gosh, this book just ripped me to shreds. This is dark, gritty and the ping pong of emotions just exhausted me, exhausted me. I normally don't like books like this, but oh well I got drawn in. Bulk and Spirit were broken as broken can be. The blurb really says it all, Bulk can't seem to move on from his first love and his mixed signals was just making Spirit more broken. Both of them really needed to heal before moving on. I think Bulk was doing more bad than good to Spirit, and I wished he would man up already…God! This would be a 5 stars for me if Bulk didn't pussy-foot so much with his feelings. Let me explain why.

Anyway, I rate this book for putting me through so much emotions and my jaw hurts from gritting my teeth, even if Bulk really is just 3 stars for me. I really loved Spirit more than Bulk. And there was even a point in this book where I wished Spirit ended up with someone else.

I honestly don’t know how I feel about this book, which is really disappointing given my love for the rest of the series. There was just something off about the entire thing. Almost as if entire paragraphs were missing or deleted. I found myself looking back trying to piece together large sections, never really understanding how things transpired. And quite frankly, Bulk turned out to be a major asshole. I understand his grief and his need to come to terms with loving another woman after his wife and child’s brutal murder. But I expected more maturity and integrity from his character. I have to say I’m pretty bummed.

Holy heart-tugging! That was an emotional beating if I've ever had one! So much angst... so much push and pull! Oh, Bulk... you truly broke my heart over and over, but it was Spirit who did me in. This story truly crushed me!

While I understand that both Spirit and Bulk are tortured souls, I'm not sure that the writing style had to be quite so disjointed. At times, I almost got too frustrated and gave up. I'm glad that Bulk finally got what he deserved, however.

Bulk´s story is sad, in the entire book is always a cloud of grief.
Bulk returns home after having a few drinks with Boss to find that his 7-month-old pregnant wife has been murdered.
7 years has passed and his heartache has not diminished, his heart still mourns the loss of his wife and son. And one night he decides to have sex with Spirit, a member of River’s Ink, band who supports Room 103 in some tours. The sex is amazing, so much that Bulk can’t take it out of his head. But Spirit is also a tortured soul, drowning his sorrows in Jack Daniels and coke.
“two broken souls didn’t make a whole one-it made chaos.”

And both begin a super intense sexual relationship but at the minimum sign of emotional intimacy, each flee in their own way.
“From now on, every single orgasm you have belongs to me. Mine to feel, mine to watch, mine to taste and definitely mine to deliver. Touch yourself again without my permission and you’ll pay the price. How much do you think a quick cop of your pussy is worth, baby? Ten spanks? Twelve? Even fifteen?”
“His heart rebelled at opening up, letting someone break the chain and rip down its defences. I took God’s wrath on me because I knew it was deserved. But Bulk was just ruined; tortured and broken.”
“I’m falling for you, so hard and… and… the guilt of that is tearing me in half. I promised Shona, as they… at her funeral that I would never utter the words ‘I love you’ again.”

Bulk has to fight with the guilt he feels for loving Spirit, and when she gets pregnant the thing gets worse. Bulk wants to leave the band and go to America to put distance between them.
On the other hand,Spirit will have to fight against her addictions, face errors of her past, and her first love that returns to her life to make things more difficult for her.
These characters spend the entire book with a constant tug of war between their guilt and their love.

I'm broken

Bulk broke me.
My heart has been torn in two by this book.
DH Sidebottom said his story would make me cry, but I had no idea it would rip me into tiny little pieces.
I love Boss. He is my guy. In 'Thrilling Heaven', Bulk showed his strength and I couldn't wait to read his story.
I have put off reading this book for so long, because I couldn't face reading his heartbreaking story.
I was now ready to face whatever DH Sidebottom put him through. The story is raw emotion, sheer heartbreak, terrifying and oh so beautiful at the same time.
Boss will always own my heart, but Bulk has managed to capture a piece all for himself.
I really, really liked this story!

Skimmed through this book to avoid having another DNF during this reading slump I’m in.

Both of these characters are genuinely horrifying people and the amount of angry, “using her” kind of sex happening during difficult and emotional moments is incredibly frustrating .
Some paragraphs made literally no sense? And the crazy amount if grammatical errors was sooo annoying.

Idk I get the angsty, character heartbreak + development vision, but the execution was awful. 🙃

Let me start off by saying that the basics were obviously there. I won't discount her talent, as I have fallen in love with her many series. However, this particular installment didn't do it for me :(
The thing I like the most about this story, was the final song they sung together in the shower. That has always and will be my jam, so you can imagine I sung it instead of reading the lyrics :D

The reason this story fell off for me, might be the reason others fell in love with it, and that is fine. But I got annoyed. First, at trying to figure out what everyone was hiding. Second, at the back and forth between Bulk and Spirit. Third, at the constant presence of Sal and his goons. Fourth, the need for death in every installment. Fifth, the very weird and also inconclusive ending. And those are just to name a few.

I think the whole series is slowly tanking with each novel. Maybe a break and rejuvenation is needed for this one, because I am in no way interested to see Romeo the commitment phobe, and his on again off again relationship with treacle.

I expected more maturity and control from Bulk's and his story, all I got was an immature man shying away from his responsibilities. He was a douche! There is no going around it. He was like a mean drunk without actually being drunk. I felt nothing for him and that ending was just so unnecessary and eerie. What genre is this? Paranormal romance? x_x

I didn't pay much attention to Spirit before this novel, but I do know that I felt nothing for her either. This I think, is my main problem with these characters. I could not relate and they annoyed the ever loving Christ out of me! She is a druggie alcoholic and nothing changed that at the end of the day. None, and I mean none, of their main debilitating issues have been fixed.

If I was Spirit, I would go get some help and have more pride within myself, because I saw her as nothing more than an alcoholic coke whore. I mean to be harsh, but not mean. Still, that doesn't discount from the fact that these characters have some really bad habits, that are still that ... bad habits!

Irrespective of my dislike for the main characters, and my new found indifference to Boss and Jen as both individuals and a couple, I enjoyed getting updates on Jax and Eve. Funny how I wasn't their biggest fan when this series started, and it now turns out that they are the best couple so far in this series, and that's saying something o.O

All over the place, too many loose ends, to many inappropriate and just for fun sex that lacked conviction, passion and intensity. It was half done and not what I expect from a D.H. Sidebottom novel. If it's one thing, she always nails the sex!

I can say there were moments when I was warming to both main characters, but then they did it again and I just gave up on it all. There was too much of everything in this novel and ironically it ended with not much. Being the masochist that I am, I will wait around for Romeo to mess it all up with his time in the lime light.

Until then folks ...

We get a glimpse of Bulk in Thrilling Heaven and like Boss, he is a night and shining armor to woman in need. The book starts out with what happened to Bulk's wife. A horrendous and agonizing memory for Bulk. All a flashback while waiting for the birth of Jenn and Boss's twins. He needed to find strength to be there for his best friend, Jenn who wanted him in the delivery; A difficult and tormenting task as Bulk's wife was murdered while being pregnant with their son.

Not that current day life was debilitating for Bulk, it was sad and difficult, but seeing all his friends get married and start families sent him into a downward spiral of emotion. And there stands Spirit, who is a member of their opening act on tour. A train wreck with a cocaine, alcohol and sex addiction. I felt disgust, not because she has a problem per se as I would have been happy if Bulk befriended her to get help, but when it turned romantic the issues she has was the last thing he ever needed when he has so many demons. Plus sleeping with her unprotected knowing she has been around and has these drugs problems grossed me out. One she could have something and two why would you want that with someone who is so strung out. Bulk is so much better than that.

Of course you know that there has to be reasons for her downward spiral and they are somewhat justified. Bulk doesn't help the situation with his head games with her. All Sprit wants is to be able to trust someone and feel loved but that's the last thing she has had her entire life and the only way she can find comfort in what she has been dealt is with addiction - anything that takes her to another place.

One thing I have not understood in Thrilling and Denying Heaven is why Eve nor Jenn ever intervened. Sometimes talking to someone who has gone through something tragic or similar as you makes you feel not alone or gives ones strength. These girls just watched their best friends suffer and hurt instead of trying to help them and I just don't get that.

Out of all 3 books this one was a little more difficult to understand in regards to the British language and it was in scenes that were impactful or insightful. I also felt more irritated because Bulk grew up in a drug impacted family so to involve himself with Spirit and her drugs issues bewildered me. Again not because she needed help, but because of the romance. There is also a theme among all 3 books (and I'm believing a 4th based on potential for Romeo's and Zoe) that resides with all the girls. I'm not sure how to say it without telling you so I will at least say it's a little redundant but gave you insight.

I'd say out of the three in the series this was my least favorite but I did like it. The epilogue had me in tears. It was the sweetest, yet saddest thing I have read and truly hope that, that's the way all endings are in real life. :-0

Story is told from Spirit and Bulk's POV. Primarily this is Bulk's story but it became more about Spirit and her troubled past. Spirit is the guitarist for River's Ink. Bulk is touring with her band. Bulk lost his wife and unborn baby seven years ago. The only thing mentioned was that she was killed and Bulk made a promise to her to never love again. Bulk cannot move forward in love with the ghost of Shona following him. When Bulk gets too close to Spirit he feels guilt and has to step back. This leaves Spirit feeling used and with her insecurities regarding her past Bulk has no idea he is pushing all her fears to surface. Spirit buries her pain in drugs.
It took awhile to figure who all these characters were. One being Chase who is known as Bulk. Bulk pines for his dead wife Shona.
Bulk is demanding, sexy, and unavailable emotionally. Yet he craves Spirit. It took some time before Spirit opened up about her past which helped to make her more appealing and more human. The attachment was finally made to allow me to understand the drive Bulk had for her.
Even though they are on tour the story does not focus on that aspect. The focus is them sharing space in the form of a tour bus and hotel rooms. The tour has been an excuse to bring them together and help aid in Spirits addiction.
The book description depicts a great story about Spirit dealing with her substance abuse and Bulk's attachment for Shona's spirit. Two souls that reached out for each other to fill the void with sex to bring comfort for one another.
At times I'm lost in British jargon having no understanding as to what is being said. I enjoy the honest tender moments when Bulk is being sweet. The sex is explicit. Way too much oral sex.
An unconventional love story filled with turmoil, destruction, and secrets. It's a volatile arrangement. It was a challenging story to love. I did however like it in some aspects.
“I’m too hard now, too numb and too angry with life to be what you need and you need to learn to grieve and forgive yourself". Quote from Chase.

Diva's Review...another amazing 10+++++!!!! Reading Denying Heaven had my emotions on high alert as its pulling at my heart. D H Sidebottom has done it again and again.....another home run!! WOW... The WOW factor is off the charts. The boys of Room 103 have my heart and as they are family to each other I feel as I read each book that I'm a part of it. Once you start this series they captivate you one by one and steal your heart.....Each book has brought tears to my eyes but I'm telling you now you will need a full box for this installment.

This is Bulk's story and let me tell you it will rip your at your heart, make you want too yell and scream aw well as wishing you could jump in the book and kick Bulk's and heroines a$$ at times. Bulk lost the live of his love Shona and unborn son seven years ago and promised he wold never love again. He may seem strong but he has a ragging war going on inside of him. While in a bar trying to drown his sorrows Spirit a member of River's Ink catches his eye. OMG you think that Bulk's inner turmoil pulls your heart strings just wait until Spirit's are revealed. They are both beyond damaged and can either end up being the death of each other or be each other salvation. It's up to you to find out!! Will they accept the challenge or walk away....? But as they decide what path they are going to take the panty dropping, HOTTTTT steamy make your knees weak scenes make it just that much better...

I will admit that I caught myself panting, laughing, crying and yelling at my kindle at times. I LOVE this series and am truly amazed that DH Sidebottom one ups herself with every book. Cheers to you DH Sidebottom and Room 103!!!! :)

OMG how can a book about rock stars be so emotional you may ask. How can two people have so much heartache in their lives but still exist. Well Dawn H Sidebottom has excelled herself with this, the third book in the Room 103 series.
This book is about Bulk and Spirit who have had some truly devastating tragic events happens in their short life's. They both think they are not worthy of moving on and really they are living in the past. The prologue gives us an snapshot of why Bulk is the way he is and Spirits secrets just keep on popping up all through the book. I felt for them both tremendously, my heart ached for them, and just as you think they are at that crossroads, something else happens to pull them back under.
Superbly written as always, the story of these two broken souls kept me glued to each and every page. The angst, the anger, the hope, the sadness and devastation and all the love just poured out of every page of this amazing book.
The epilogue is breathtakingly beautiful to read, I cried and I cried hard and then went back and read the epilogue again. It was stunning to read, not expected at all and as Bulk and Spirit would say "I really really like you" well I REALLY REALLY loved this wonderful book. My favourite so far!!!

I'm giving this book a 4 rating, but its a very high 4.

I had issues with Bulk. I didn't warm to him like Jax and Boss and whilst I understood his predicament and I understand that he couldn't help doing some of the things he did to Spirit, I still wanted to slap him round the head a few times.

This book has a drug addiction storyline and I'm not totally sure that that has been dealt with along with some other things.

I also felt that a large portion of this book was took up by me not having a clue what was going on. There's a lot of cryptic conversations and its not until things are explained that it all comes together.

Basically the first 70% was ok, but boy did the final 30% make up for it and by the end I was crying with all the emotion pouring from this book.

Like with the previous books before this, love is not easy, but Bulk and Spirits journey was like a road to nowhere at times and I really didn't know if they had a future. Well after my initial doubt's about this book I'm happy to say that this is well worth a read if you want to know if Bulk and Shona get their HEA.

WOW WOW WOW WOW - this is how I felt after I finished Bulk's story. I was so emotionally wrecked with Bulk that I had to stop in between at times since my eyes would get blurry from being so teared eye. You are a freakin amazing author and I love love love this book. What a fuckin heartbreak to read about Bulk - seriously Im in love with him. What a freakin roller coaster ride it was to see Spirit and Bulk go through and the freakin sex with Bulk was the most intense and most awesome shit to read, it almost felt like I was in the book with him. I loved everything about him and the shit he went through was heartbreaking. The only downer for me was the Epilogue because you made it from a ghost POV I mean it was very emotional but I wanted to know more about Bulk and Spirit like did he stay or leave the band. Im sad to start the last book with Romeo bcuz it will be the end for Room 103 but I really do love the whole series with Jax, Boss, Bulk and now Romeo. 10 Stars in my eyes!!!

This is the third book of the series, because of that I understand that this author expects her characters to go through hell and back before they are happy. Because of this, I feel like I liked this book a little more than the two previous ones.

Bulk and Spirit are a seriously fucked up couple, there is really no other way to put it. Between her drug use and his dead wife it's a match made in dramaville. I love Bulk, I have since we got a good hard glimpse of his friendship with Jen, it made him out to be very sweet and I was excited about this book.

Well Bulk is sweet, but he is also an asshole. He also is constantly hot and cold, so much so that I have whiplash. but at the end of the day the book was fine. I felt as though I was skimming through the book at some parts because I don't know why they felt the need to make her use drugs over and over, I got the picture the first couple times.

I also want to say that the lack of birth control in this series in concerning, there have been way too many unplanned pregnancies. Use a condom, for real!

I love all these characters (which is the only reason I gave it 3 stars), but this book was just ok for me. I felt like i was reading about a totally different Bulk than we've met in teh previous books. What happened to the sensitive, considerate guy that tried to E why Jax is the way he is and the guy who comforted Jen thru all her drama with Boss. The guy in the 1st two books won't have been so inconsiderate and hurtful to Spirit. That guiy wouldn't have walked away from someone who cleared needed his help with her addiction and after he found she was pregnant. I felt myself being so frustrated with him. Of course in the end it all works out, but it seemed like the ending fell short and there should have been more int he Epilogue about them as a couple and the baby.
This books needs a 3.5 for closure.

That all being said, the author writes some amazing sex scenes that make the book totally worth it in the end :)

This book is an emotional rollercoaster. Like all Room 103 books there's massive highs and devastating...and i mean devastating lows. We get to meet Bulk in Denying Heaven and oh my what can i say about Bulk....He's sweet but troubled and the guilt this man carries is unbelievable. 7 years after losing the love of his life he meets Spirit. Now Spirit has troubles and the sparks fly between them. This book is so absolutely fantastic my review will never do it justice. It made me laugh...alot, cry....alot and get sooo mad with the characters. Please if you're debating getting this book just get it. I was lucky enough to get an ARC of this and it just blew me away. Brilliant book by an absolutely outstanding author.

So I decided to save my review until I had read the 3 available room 103 books so I could do a round up review.
I not sure I can find the words to describe just how gripping this series has been so far, each book in it's own way gets under your skin & works it's way into your mind & into your heart.
I found myself sharing the ups & downs of the characters, shouldering there burdens & living with there heart aches & joys.
This series is tremendously written, a true credit to D H Sidebottom along with her other amazing series, we are never left let down, always hungry for more of what she delivers to us so well.

Shocking Heaven-grabbed me,
Thrilling Heaven-made me fall,
&
Denying Heaven-has tugged at every string of my being!!
