I don't remember where I saw this book. It's a historical/non fiction comic about Nicaragua's history. The author is sympathetic to Sandinistas and it was published in the mid 80s. I'm tempted buy it so I have it in my personal library. It's pretty short (maybe a 90 minute read) and it's in English

Patria libre o morir!
(a free country or death!)

"I'd prefer to die with the handful of men who came with me. It's better to die a rebel than to live as a slave"
— Sandino (p. 56)

___

Nicaraguans:

Your duty to your country is supreme
Finish off Somoza in the only way
which he inexorably imposed on you
And which you know so well.

Otherwise,
You will only languish in ignominy
You will not deserve to be a people
But only a herd of cattle.
— Rigoberto Lopez Perez

Anxiety:

I suffer for my country
In my veins a hero seeks liberation

The flowers of my time will always be withered
If the blood of the tyrant is in their veins

I seek the fruit of liberty
in the death of the tyrant
— Rigoberto Lopez Perez (Leon, Nicaragua 1956) ---(p. 83)

Great introduction to Nicaragua and the history behind it, I am a huge fan of Rius' stuff and this is a great book by him.

I love how it ends right after the rebels take power in the eighties, before the american intervention. So it ends on a high note. I only how that now that they are back in power today they can make the country a great place to live.
