I couldn’t help but wonder what my life would be like if we had never moved to the ho-dunk town of Spring Valley, Illinois. Sure the internet service is splotchy, there is nothing but miles of wheat fields, and I probably wouldn’t be faced with death at every corner.
My only neighbor in this god forsaken town is…well, there really is only one to describe him—hot as hell. With his sinful dark looks, unusually silver eyes, and kissable lips, there is something about him that is more than meets the eye.
Of course I am determined to find out.
Chase Winters might be drool-worthy, but he is also insufferable, arrogant and…in short a d-bag. Our relationship is anything but love at first sight. Not even close. There is something weird about the family living next door.
What I hadn’t expected to find is an underworld of trouble.
Chase and his cousins Lexi and Travis are Divisa—half-demon, half-human. Getting them angry is hardly in my best interest, not if I want to live.
As it turns out, that might be the least of my problems. I’ve been tagged by Hell.
Now every ugly, nasty being from hades is on my trail. I have suddenly became a magnet for demon disaster, and the only way I am getting out of this alive is by putting my life in the demon spawn’s hands.

I'm willing to bet anything that these were J.L Weil's thoughts when writing the book.
OMG, I just read Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout and it was amazing!!! Oh my gosh, I want to write a book like that! Maybe I'll write a fanfiction. But wait-- what if…what if I wrote my own book that was slightly similar instead of doing a fanfiction? OMG, I'm so smart!
So first off, let me start with Katy's character! I'll make her and-- But no-- what if people notice that I'm basically copying Obsidian? I can't have that happen! I know, I'll just change Katy's name to…to...Angel! Yes, that is perf! She'll be exactly like Katy in every other way, but she'll just look different. But wait- she can't be exactly the same! Umm……hmm…I know! Instead of blogging and reading like Katy does, Angel will be obsessed with video games and her X-Box! Oh yeah. I'm a genious.
Now Daemon. How will I ever make him as hot as JLA did? Umm…uhh……I don't know! Ugh, I---wait!!! I know! I'll just describe how incredibly hot he is on every page! Then people will SO find him incredibly hot and they will totes swoon over him! Yes. But I'll just change his name to Chase and make him look different, and instead of him being an alien, he'll be a half-demon! There will be NO aliens, only sexy half-demons!!!!!! These ideas just get better and better!
And I love the romance between Katy and Daemon…let me replicate it exactly with Chase and Angel! Chase can give Angel an adorable petname! Daemon called Katy 'Kitten', so Chase's nickname for Angel must be equally clever. OMG, I GOT IT! Angel Eyes!!! Chase will call her Angel Eyes! I am so smart.
Now for the rest of the characters…
Dee- God, I love her. She's so bubbly and nice and fun! I'll make her in my story but I'll call her Lexi, and make her blonde! But I love Dee too much to further change her character, so Lexi will be exactly the same.
Wait a minute…This…this is a little too similar to Obsidian…I'll have to change it up! I know! Instead of Chase being Lexi's brother like Daemon was Dee's brother, I'll make them cousins! Because that is sooo diff!
I really like Adam from Obsidian too…hmm…maybe I'll put him in my story too. He's really gorgeous with his blonde hair and blue eyes, so I'll keep him the same and just change his name to Travis! And just for a change, he'll be Lexi's brother. I am SO good at this! No one will EVER know that I totally ripped off JLA!
I don't like Andrew, so I won't include him, but I do like Ash, so I'll include her. She'll be a redhead instead of a blonde, and her name will be Sierra! Uh huh. I got this.
But, I'm not really good at writing…oh well, who cares! Everyone will be so obsessed with Chase that they won't realize that there are grammar mistakes on every page, and they won't notice that this is basically an Obsidian fanfiction. No one will ever know.
Painfully similar to Jennifer Armentrout's 'Obsidian'---the characters, the setting, the scenes, etc etc etc. Even the whole thing about Travis' girlfriend who disappeared, *ehem* Dawson and Beth *ehem*. I really wish the author would take a much different route in the next books of this series. She could've played with this story in a lot of ways that would not make it a replica of 'Obsidian', but there it is.
I LOVED IT! I loved Obsidian (Lux, #1)by Jennifer L. Armentrout, so when i read that there are similarities i knew this book is for me. So... There are some people who felt that this was a copy of obsidian I mean there are similarities but who gives a shit. I read so many similar books to the 50 Shades Of Grey or Twilight, so what they are all plagiarism? The "Typos" i don't care for that, english is not my native language. Back to the story..... Chase and Angel Their dialogue is so freaking funny and entertaining, They have a love / hate relationship (love those). I sat on the edge of my seat as i try hard to see if Chase and Angel will kiss or even more! Chase is super hot!!! Even though he can be The main character, Angel, was sarcastic, and witty. Lastly, the novel introduces a new type of supernatural creature, which was interesting. I would recommend this book if you are into the Lux Series , the Sweet Evil or Arcana series. The author did an excellent job and I can't wait until the next one comes out.
Just so horribly similar to Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout! I mean I would get if just the plot was alike, but all the scenes, background stories, dialogue, characters- basically everything was copied! I loved Obsidian, so it was kind if offensive reading the book that not only was just a replica of it but was also poorly was poorly written. I have read books that have been alike before, but this felt a bit like plagiarism. Too alike!!! The author should have been more creative!
I've realized that I sometimes have a habit of reading the synopsis of a book and buying it right away without much thought. This is yet another one of those books. I truly thought I was making a good decision. Turns out I was very very wrong.
Had I bothered to read the Goodreads reviews for this novel beforehand I wouldn't have started it in the first place. A large number of people kept mentioning how almost strangely similar this novel seemed to be to Jennifer Armentrout's Lux series. For full disclosure, I read a few books in the Lux series and really enjoyed them in the past. It's been quite a few years so it isn't fresh in my mind but overall I can't dispute the fact that the broad strokes of this story are too similar for comfort to the Lux series.
With that being said this novel read like a knock off Lux series with the writing being a little worse for wear and the character's not being all that likable. Enemies to friends, when done well, makes for a pretty cool story (though it's not a favorite of mine). This was not one of those.
The heroine felt like she was SO special because she wasn't like other girls. She was a gAm3R, she didn't like shopping, and don't even mention not having an internet connection for a full 24 hours or she's going to flip. She had such annoyances with her mother as well, even though she seemed like a stereotypical "cool mom". The hot and cold thing she had with the hero was very frustrating and started giving my whiplash at one point. She had quite a few too-stupid-to-live moments that could have been avoided had she bothered to tell someone where she was going.
The hero was a stereotypical alpha-hole except he was a wanna-be "alpha" and had random outbursts of anger towards the people in his life, particularly the heroine. What he needed was an anger management course and maybe some therapy (then again therapy is good for everyone). The way he ran hot and cold was incredibly annoying. The best part about it all? It was usually for no apparent reason. Is anyone out there a psychic so we can foresee when his next outburst is going to be so I can make myself be somewhere else?
The other two characters around his age that live with him (whose names I can't be bothered to remember at this point in time) were really interesting characters. I wish this story was focused on them instead of the douche and the special one.
By the end, I couldn't care less if I tried. I will not be picking up any future books in this series. I'm also on the fence about picking up books by this author in the future. I will say one last thing though, the book covers for this series are amazing!
The Audio Book:
The narration was okay. There were a few moments throughout the novel where the audio got fuzzy and corrected itself and maybe a random very faint noise here and there. Her voices were good and every character was discernable throughout the story.
I read in a chat room that this book was similar to Obsidian. It peaked my interest because, I mean, I loved Daemon Black and also I was curious. I mean how similar could they be? I thought this book would be similar enough to get my Daemon fix since I'm done with the Lux series so he is gone forever, while still being different enough to peak my interest and take me on a distinct adventure. So how similar are the books you ask? IDENTICAL. Imagine that. Boo to plagiarism. Now don't get me wrong, there are some differences. Katy has a book addiction in the Lux series. While Angel has an xbox addiction. Daemon is a hot alien that lives next door. Chase on the other hand is a hot half-demon that lives next door. Obsidian takes place in the middle-of-no-where town in West Virginia while Saving Angel takes place in the middle-of-no-where town of Spring Valley, Illinois. See where I am going with this? The books are not really different. I was actually amazed at how similar this books are. Like it seriously seems like J.L. Weil got a manuscript from J.L. Armentrout and started just crossing out and replacing stuff. "Oh instead of alien I will put half demon. Instead of making the main characters best friend have black hair, I will make her a blonde." Not only were the characters similar, the plot, the way the characters connect, the tiniest details were all the same. I had hope though. And right when I thought this book was taking me somewhere different I would roll my eyes as I noticed a detail that would foreshadow something and I would play this game of "let me see if I can guess what will happen next." I had a 95% win rate. That was disappointing. Now with that said, I do love Chase, the main male character because he is essentially Daemon. Go figure. So its hard not to like the story when it is basically a story that you already love. But wait, what is that? Typos. Oh yes. Too many typos. In every book I have ever read in my life I have probably found one typo tops. Most of them I have found none. In this book I easily found at least one per chapter. All kinds of typos. Tense. Spelling. It's not like I couldn't figure out what they meant but when you already think you're reading a rip off, you become even more disappointed when the rip off is of poor quality. And besides the typos, Weil just does not tell the story as well as Armentrout does. For goodness sake if you are going to steal someone's work, improve on it. Geez. So long story short, if you are thinking about reading this book, read the Lux series instead; its way better. If you have read the Lux series and are looking for another Lux series, read this book. No judgment here; after all that's why I read it. But at least you know what you are getting into. With that said, I will say that my interest is peeked and I will read the others because I am still hopeful the author will take this in another direction and I can love Chase for Chase and not love Chase because he is a Daemon replica. Sometimes I can be a bit naive. I call it optimism.
HOLY FREAKING CRAP! Can I say AWESOME? I freaking loved "Saving Angel." If you have ever read and loved, or even liked the Lux Series by Jennifer L. Armentrout, then you will extremely enjoy this novel. The storyline was absolutely superb, and I can't even describe how awesome the characters were. I pretty much loved all of them, but especially Angel and Chase. Their dialogue is so freaking funny and entertaining. If you haven't already gathered from my review, I would seriously recommend this to EVERYONE! I'm so pumped to read "Hunting Angel" next! Did I use too many exclamations? I think not:)
This book is VERY similar to Jennifer Armentrout's Lux Series Obsidian but that wasn't necessarily a bad thing. I LOVE Jennifer Armentrout's Lux series. Some people may find annoying that Saving Angel was like Obsidian but I wasn't one of them. If you love Daemon then you'll love Chase. Another reason why I liked this book is because it has the potential to go in a different direction than the Lux series. I'm hoping the 2nd book will explore the realm of half-demons & the connention Angel now has with them more.
chase is amazing he is my type I don't care he's half demon yep you heard right HALF-DEMON.
*spoiler*
I was shocked that angle would met lexi first but it made it better I love playing angle is basically me I love playing xbox and watching YouTube.
I love that angle doesn't give a shit tjat he is half demon she was just asking questions like bella (from twilight) it was kinda weird how chase was rude on minute then after wanted to hang out with her.
I hated the girl that was always clinging to chase she needs to rather leave him alone or die so glad angle connected to chase maybe they might get together in the next book.
omg the sexual tension was driving everyone in the book crazy even lexi's brother had to make fun but then got he's ass kicked for doing it my favourite scene was the leafs I actually thought angle was going to die I was so shocked that chase begged death to bring her back and them be connected dam I think that will be interesting to find out what happens next.
Started this book and I'm thinking; "Woah, this is very similar to Obsidian... Maybe if I keep reading it won't seem as such."
WRONG WRONG WRONG - and I was SO glad when I read others reviews that I'm not the only one who noticed the blatant copying. I'm on chapter 3 and I had to stop. Seriously, how has she gotten away with basically re-writing another authors series? The differences are extremely minor that it's just plain embarrassing.
Blatant rip off of Jennifer Armentrout's 'Obsidian'. If it had just been similar plot it would have not been so bad. I don't know how J.L. Weil got away wiht this, i would suggest next time she does something like this to make sure she copy and past's the whole thing and then just change the names. That way she will get better ratings as this was a poor imitation.
Wow what an amazing story!!! I don't even know where to start! This story follows a half demon boy and his human next door neighbor. They have a love / hate relationship where you can tell they want to hate each other but cannot fight the love they feel. Because Chase is a half demon, he has inadvertently made Angel the target of lower demons to attack her to get to him. Angel is just your typical girl who likes to play xbox and doesn't get into the whole girlie crap that most girls love. She finds herself having feelings for Chase but at the same time cannot stand him because he is arrogant and drives her nuts. This was an amazing read because it had drama, angst, action, and supernatural elements. This story made me laugh and cry. I will be honest I could not put it down! A must read!
As a lot of people have already mentioned, this book is a lot like the Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout but I didn't mind too much because I've been going crazy while waiting for Opposition to be released. I liked Angel as a character. She loved Xbox, especially Call of Duty: MW3 and also reading. My kind of character! I also love how sarcastic she is, it's definitely a refreshing change to not be in the head of a whiney brat-like character *glares at Zoey Redbird* Always convenient when the main character's parent works a lot, keeps them nicely out the way until they're needed to embarrass their child infront of their attractive neighbour.. So if you enjoyed the Lux series and you don't mind reading the same plot again, then you'll love this book. The characters are pretty much identical, especially Lexi/Dee, Chase/Daemon, Hayden/Adam, Sierra/Ash and whoever Andrew's twin is (he was hardly mentioned) Travis seems more fun than Dawson (probably something to do with not being tortured in a government prison with his lover) Oh and the two girly friends who gawp over the Chase/Daemon and encourage Angel/Katy to be together while they're doing the love-hate flirt dance and explain the theory of why everyone in town reacts weirdly towards Angel/Katy's new neighbours. Anyway, overall enjoyable book. I'd recommend it. =^-^=
This book is so much like the Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout that it's almost laughable. However, I loved the Lux series, therefore I enjoyed this book because it was a friggin carbon copy. #plagiarism
Angel and her mom just moved to the middle of nowhere, Illinois to escape her alcoholic dad and get a new start. Angel isn't too worried because all she needs is her video games. CoD, Skyrim, etc. Until she meets her girlie girl next door neighbor Lexi who all but jumps on the chance to be friends with Angel. Which is kinda nice except for her "douchbag" cousin Chase who drives Angel crazy. They are literally at each other's throat at every opportunity. Too bad he's insanely sexy and has a nice butt.
Something isn't right though. Everyone in town avoids Lexi's family like the plague. Except for Angel. Something is afoot and Angel is determined to find out what.
Like I said, Twilight, but a lot more fun. Zane and Angel do have the whole "you're insanely fast and different. and dangerous. Your eyes change colors. - what are you. SAY IT" but it's just so much more damn fun. Their banter is great and there are many moments where I chuckled out loud. Angel isn't like Bella where's she's like "ooh i'm not scared. I love you." Angel is very rightly scared of what Zane is and the change he brings. RIGHTLY SO. I love that.
I also love that there is a girl side kick (Lexi) who is genuine, fun, and truly caring. Speaking of awesome girls, Angel makes two chearleader friends at school who are NOT bitches or shallow. Way to break that stupid YA high school stereotype J.L weil!!- Props. Chearleaders don't have to be the bitchy bad girls. They are capable of being nice.
This books is for a more mature young adult, maybe 16+, especially as the series goes on, for adult language and sexual themes.
If you're looking for a quick fun read with ample romance, this is your book.
chase is amazing he is my type I don't care he's half demon yep you heard right HALF-DEMON.

Before you start going off about how this book is a complete rip off of the Lux series it is not entirely the same. I've read the whole Divisa series and the whole Lux series and, in my honest opinion, I feel like JL Weil pulled it off better than Jennifer Armentrout.
Katy and Angel are similar in some ways but I feel like Angel is more outspoken than Katy and Angel connects with Travis more than Katy does with Dawson. Angel also has a closer relationship through out the series than Katy does with Dee at times. And even though Travis and Emma's situation is remarkably similar to Bethany and Dawson's JL Weil puts a spin on it in a way that I didn't feel with Bethany and Dawson.
Even though this book is very similar to Obsidian it's still a book that I have fallen in love with even after reading Obsidian and seeing all the similarities. Saving Angel captured me in a way that Obsidian didn't. I mean no offense to Lux lovers because I'm also in love with the Lux series.
This author is kind of a copycat. She copied a lot of things from Obsidian by J.L.Armentrout. She just changed some things, like names of characters and they are not aliens but half-demons and so on... But it gave me a good laugh because of it, so at least it was entertaining.
Angelina = Katy Chase = Daemon Lex = Dee Travis = Dawson Sierra = Ash Hayden = Adam Craig = Andrew Devin = Matthew Emma = Bethany Hunters = DOD Lower-demon = Arum
Too damn similar of Obsidian by JLR. I couldn't get past it sadly. DFN. Today, today live like you wanna, let yesterday burn and throw it in a fire. In a Fire. Live like a warrior! That's the song I was thinking of as reading this. Live like a warrior by Matisyahu. I just. Couldn't. Chase was hot though. ;(
I absolutely love this series and can NOT wait until Chasing Angel hits Amazon!I will be starting another one of your books within minutes.I searched here first to find out when I could finish Angel and Chases story. Daggummit. Lol.
Judging from the summary, I was really, really excited to read this book. It sounded pretty badass. But 65 pages in and...I just can't do it anymore. I was expecting some demonic action, maybe this chic gets possessed or chased by a demon or something. But...all it is is the MC, Angel, saying how much she hates Chase one minute...then oogling over him the next. I can deal with a little bit of bickering (and oogling), but 1/4 of the book is JUST that, when the author should be building up the plot. There is no plot-building whatsoever, just oogling. Gag me.
This book is definitely something you CAN'T judge from the summary. Seriously, don't. You'll probably be disappointed.
EDIT: OH, and how could I forget?? There are typos on every page! EVERY FREAKIN' PAGE. For the love of God, hire an editor.
