An excellent introduction to discourse analysis, providing a useful hands-on approach to conducting discourse analysis. There is some overlap with Gee's Introduction to Discourse Analysis, but this is a practical application of the theory/method focus that is in the other book. I highly recommend this to anybody doing discourse analysis. Gee's treatment of the subject is consistent with this qualitative research method as it is viewed and endorsed in the field.

A basic introduction to discourse analysis that does a solid job of modeling how to look at discourse in different ways. While the text is written for the newbie, there are recommended texts that go more deeply into each area at the end of each section. I have the kindle version and found it exceptionally easy to navigate. I recommend this format since you'll have the text available for those moments when you're hiding from your family in the coffee shop to get your data analysis done and you have a nagging feeling that you're missing something. An exceptionally practical resource.

At first, I thought that it would be hard to read this book. But in the end, I didn't regret it. At least, I had known about the discourse analysis. One of methods that used in social research. Gee tried to explain very well. He gave example for each tools. So, the reader wouldn't difficult to understand it.

Este libro es un recurso muy valioso y didáctico para todos los que estamos procurando cobrar habilidad en el Análisis Crítico del Discurso. Ojalá existiera una versión traducida al español.

A useful step-by-step guide to the process of analysing transcript data. A companion to his introduction to discourse analysis and containing much of the same material, this is more practical and provides guidance for researchers. Well recommended.
