Edge #2

Shattered Edge (The Edge Series, Book 2, A Middleton Family Billionaire Romance Novel

Rate this book
This is a new edition with many changes, but the plot and story line remain the same.

Deception is often worse than the depths of hell.

Justin Middleton was one of Charleston’s most eligible bachelors.
He had his choice of any woman he wanted.
Yet, there was only one woman on his mind who happened to be me.
There was a huge problem with that.
I’d convinced myself he was nothing but a deceitful, cheating, heartbreaker, and swore I was done with him.
When he showed up uninvited at my house late one night, looking deliciously sexy and seductive, my resistance vanished like a puff of smoke.
Then I did something totally absurd.
I suggested a harebrained scheme for him to win me back … he had six short months to accomplish it.
If he couldn’t win my heart and gain my trust by then, we’d go our separate ways.
Justin eagerly accepted the challenge.
And what happened next?
My vow to withstand his charm crumbled and I gave in to the explosive passion between us.
Within weeks, we were deeply involved.
The fairy tale we were living took a disastrous turn when my brother, the ex con and drug addict, showed up, sending me down a dark and twisted path.
Would we make it through, or would our lives be destroyed forever?

Shattered Edge is a stand alone, spicy, enemies to lovers, second chances romance with a HUGE twist. It contains secrets, mystery, and a happy ever after. Don't miss out on this one!

Shattered Edge is the story of Terri and Justin. We met the two of them first in Edge of Disaster, though you do not have to read that book first in order to get this one (but I would suggest it, just because it's awesome and you'd be missing out). The two are stand-alone novels with repeating characters.

Terri is recovering from a car accident that left her seriously injured and scarred. She is an incredibly strong character who pushes on, though she cannot seem to let her infatuation with Justin go. Justin is pretty much your typical playboy. Women like him, and he knows it. Except now he cannot seem to get Terri out of his head, or the guilt that has been plaguing him since the car accident. The two had gone on a couple of dates before the accident, but things had dulled down with them afterwards.

When the two of them decide to give a try at a relationship, things get seriously hot! The chemistry between Terri and Justin is incredibly potent and they cannot stay away from each other. They are seemingly perfect for each other; Terri strong and independent, and Justin sweet and romantic. Life goes on, though, and often gets in the way. Terri goes through a series of mishaps in her personal life, one of which might just bring the end to their relationship. It takes everything they have to overcome the obstacles in their path, but it seems that sometimes love is just not enough.

At first the story was your typical love story, but then it's good when they involve drugs and a Mexican cartel. I'm glad Terri's and Justin's love doesn't die when Terri does.

•• I was given a copy of this book by the author in exchange for a fair and honest review ••

This is the third book I've read from author A.M. Hargrove and I must say that it get's better each time I pick one of her's up.

I didn't like the first I read, Dark Waltz and then the I had various mixed emotions about the first book in this series - Edge Of Disaster.

So, like I said, her writing and story-lines get better and better each time I read one of her novels.

Shattered Edge is the follow-up of Edge of Disaster, as you probably gathered from what I said above... but it takes us on a different route, following the life and relationship of Terry & Justin.

I must just say before I continue with my review of this book, that Lexi seriously irritated me in this book. She was such a double-standard, two-faced cow! I know it's harsh, but if you've read the first, you will understand what I mean. In her book, (Edge #1) she was a total mess and slept around all the time... in this book, she's all holier-than-tho... throwing her two cent's into Terry & Justin's relationship, all because of something that happens in the first book involving Justin & two face-less woman... I actually liked Lexi... but after this book, I can't stand her and I never want to read about her ever again! She's on my hit-list!

Anyway... back to the review at hand... Shattered Edge. I really enjoyed this book. I really did. I can't point out exactly what is was about the book that I loved... but it just made me all happy and girly when I read it.

I'll admit that I found Justin to be a bit immature at times... totally unrealistic for an educated hot male... but hey... how many male book hero's can honestly exist in the real world...?

I loved Terri from the first book and until I started reading this one, I actually had no idea it was a spin-off from the first. I honestly thought it was a continuation and like I said, I had liked Lexi, so I didn't mind... but I did stop and consider if I should continue reading once I realised it wasn't about Lexi, but her side-kick Terri instead... BUT I'm glad I did continue because it's a much better read than the first in the series.

I wouldn't say you absolutely have to read the first to understand the second, but I guess it is important, since both Terry & Justin appear in the first book...and... things happen that you should know about because it pretty much just continues from that point into this point... so I'd say, read the first yes... but don't judge this second book based on how you feel about Edge of Disaster... it's nowhere near close to one-another as far as I'm concerned.

The writing style & storyline development, that author A.M. Hargrove seems to be improving on with each book she releases, if good. I really enjoyed the dialogue between the characters.

What improves in this book compared to the first?

The writing style for one. I really liked the way it followed easily in Shattered Edge.

The male lead (Justin), although still a little immature, was far better in my eye's than how Pearce turned out in Edge Of Disaster. I pretty much mapped the first book and his behavior out before it happened, whereas in Shattered Edge... Justin was a little (tiny-bit) more original in his character development.

In the first book - I got annoyed when Pearce moved too fast. Why? Because I had a premonition way, way before it occurred. I didn't with Justin. Essentially he too was a real sap for Terry, but he was a somewhat more realistic character. (I'm repeating myself - I know... but it's important to note - because it was a huge issue for me in Edge of Disaster)

Overall - I'm very glad I read Shattered Edge and I'm happy to praise this book and insist that you give it a go. If you didn't like the first... I can understand that... because I too had my ups and downs... but this book is a complete 360 compared to the first.

The only reason I'm giving it a 4.5 Stars is because... I don't want to say it's that I'm not going to remember it in a week from now... because I think I will... but I'll only be remembering snippets... not the entire book. Fragments of the book hit me and other parts were just blah... But still a great book and a very enjoyable read!

Author A.M Hargrove is developing a great skill in her storytelling ability and I just know that the fourth book I read of her's will be another huge jump up from this one :)

I hope you like your romance hot and steamy, cause that’s what you’re going to get in this book.

In the first Edge Novel, Edge of Disaster, the heart came first and the racy sex scenes came later.

Not so in Shattered Edge. Once Terri decides to give Justin another chance, it’s right to bed!

I have a fan attached to the top of my headboard for my bed and it came in handy. Not in the way you think! It put the flames out when the hot bedroom scenes set fire to my Kindle.

I felt so sad for Terri. Recovering from her car crash has taken a long time and she still has a ways to go. Her beautiful leg is so scarred and battered. It’s really knocked her for a loop. And then to have Justin do the dirty with two bimbos just shattered her.

Taking Justin back was a big risk, but I was so happy she did. I felt they belonged together, if they could just move on from the past and forgive.

Justin really screwed things up. He wallowed in self blame and did some stupid crap. Thank God Alexia let him have it and set him on the straight and narrow.

He’s now determined to win Terri back and goes to some really daring lengths to do so.

The author’s writing is so visual, I could see him sneaking into Terri’s house, tiptoeing to her bedroom and softly lying down beside her in the bed.

She bolted up into a sitting position and started yelling.

“Sshh, it’s me, Justin,” I said as I sat up and tried to assure her she was safe.

“No it’s not.”

She swung her fist and hooked me in the jaw. Damn that hurt too.

Good for her. He deserved it. He’s real lucky she didn’t have time to grab the pepper spray hidden under her pillow!

They talked, they haggled, and finally Terri proposed a six month trial period. Justin will have to prove himself or it ends. And with the many following pages, they made up for lost time.

When Terri’s brother, Preston, arrived on the scene, this story took a dark and scary turn. Weird things started happening and it became a mystery to me.

So, we have a hot and steamy romance, a chance to patch things up, and now, a mystery. This is a recipe for a thrilling, hold on to your boot straps, new chapter in The Edge Novels.

I’d hurry up and get your copy! It just released today and you can start reading it tonight! Just in time for Valentine’s Day.

Keep a fan nearby:)

Disaster strikes for Terri Mitchell and Justin Middleton near the end of the Edge of Disaster before they even got a chance to try to have the love they deserve. Shattered Edge is the story of Justin and Terri's attempt at making their own love story.

I'm so glad AM continued this story for Justin and Terri! They just couldn't catch a break in Edge of Disaster and you couldn't help but root for them. The chemistry between them has always been strong but Oh my goodness in Shattered Edge you can cut the passion in the room with a knife. The time they were apart between the two books only made their connection stronger and you just couldn't help telling the characters to just go for it and that they deserved each others love.

Solid 4.5 Stars on this one! I'm definitely between ratings because the fact that I couldn't put this book down makes me want to give it 5, but a few times I wanted the characters to get out of bed some for a little expansion on the plot so I just settled with 4.5!

Anyway back to those characters not being able to get out of bed...this book was HOT SEXY STEAMY. Sometimes I just wanted to be like Oh my gawd please come get into my bed! Can I please get a Middleton brother of my very own?! AM did you hear that? Okay just checking.

BIG KABOOOM close to the end. Like seriously didn't see that one coming at all. I kinda had a feeling things were going too smoothly for too long, but I didn't think there would be such a game changer so close to the end! I can't even begin to describe this one to you so I guess you got to read it to find out!

If HOT STEAMY and some sweaty romance is your kind of book, then you will love it!

My rating is mix between a 3 & 4 on this. I loved the first 80% or so. I was head over hills for Justin. Easily. Terri was a strong female lead that you loved as well. She took little BS and had a good head on her shoulders. There were moments were I could have gotten a sugar high from the two of them, well actually more from Justin. He was a reformed man-whore but you learned little of his whoring ways. So it was hard to really see him like that at all. He was uber sweet - uber fast. But I could deal with that. You only have so many pages to fall in love - and if the characters can display intense love it works.

But here is where it get's interesting....that twist. I wanted his POV to tear me to absolute shreds. It made me sad - but I held it together. I really wanted to fall apart. I am undecided on the last 20% - well not the full end. sort of 81%-94% or so. I think the loop I was thrown through has really put me off a bit. I am not sure how I feel about that at all. Which I guess is not a bad thing. It will ensure this sticks with me a bit. I am not sure if I really need another story of 'Terri' and Justin or if maybe something with Ava or Preston...

Shit. I really wish I could figure out what my reaction to this damn twist is. I did really enjoy this book but I feel like I am still so undecided because I can wrap my mind around if I liked or disliked that twist. I guess I will just allow it to roll around in my head for a bit longer.

I have a new favorite author, and her name is A.M. Hargrove. Shattered Edge is an adult contemporary romance that has all of the key elements that keep me drawn into a story. Some may consider the relationship between Terri and Justin to be an "insta-love" type of thing (which there is nothing wrong with that...I like that scenario) but their bond develops so fast because of tragic circumstances. I love that Terri is a "physically" damaged heroine and that the gorgeous, steamy, orthopedic surgeon, Justin, can see past her physical scars. He finds her sexy as hell and is hell bent on having her. These two were meant to be together, and I cannot give away a spoiler, but something happens toward the end of the book that I was not expecting and that actually caused my heart to break for this couple. I thought I would die. Not to worry, any good romance has an HEA but boy does it put you through the ringer getting there. Now, let's talk about Miss Hargrove. Her writing style is amazing. It's fluid and engaging. I read too many books where I find myself skipping paragraphs of extraneous fluff. Not so here. I found myself needing to absorb every word she wrote. I will also say that her sex scenes are off the charts hot! I also read the next book in this series, Kissing Fire, which was amazing. They are stand alone books though so you don't have to read the entire series. But you'd be crazy not to! Love, love, love!

From Facebook review:

Just read 'Shattered Edge' by A.M. Hargrove. To be totally honest I never thought the ending will be like this. Holy shit it caught me off guard.

They relationship is almost perfect, things are doing great between them, the loved they felt grew strong each passing day, they trust and lean each other when some crazy shit happens. Above all I thought the happy ending I was looking forward to finally arrived but I was so wrong, it has an interesting twist at the end. It makes me mad as hell knowing my happy ending was way to far away to grasped it.

Knowing she ended up in mental hospital in 6 awful months and it surely did help her to deal with her shit but this things I never to consider to happen to her. It was a excruciating months for both of them, knowing Terry Mitchell is no longer exist.

Surely she has to changed her identity, get a tattoo, face lift and a lot more but I'm glad Justine knew it was her Terry after all.

At the end I'm glad I still have my happy ending to their story. Finally it was Dr. And Mrs. Justine Middleton. Woot woot!

Its looks like the upcoming last series will be Preston and Ava's story to tell. I can't truly wait.

Great job A.M. Hargrove!

I don't want to be rude but I just didn't like the book.
In the beginning, the whole story was so similar to Pearce and Lexi's story just switched a little bit. I was bored. But since it got so many good reviews and raved about the ending, I forced myself to continue. Then out of nowhere a twist so far fetched that I couldn't believe all the rave reviews. It was forced, rushed, so ridiculous that I still wanted to just ditch the book. I saw it to the end and still am not impressed.
At no point did I feel any emotional connection with the characters. It was so similar to the first book Edge of Disaster that I found myself contemplating the authors choice in writing the book at all. Then I understood why she did when she wrote the unrealistic twist. That was her way to make it unique after copying the original model.
The story felt choppy. Some things were never explained and I just plain didn't get it
Sorry A.M. Hargrove, but this one is a miss for me

When I was given this book just over a year ago, I was like I'll read that soon. I so wished I had read it earlier, cos I have no idea why IT TOOK ME SO LONG lol. I love Annie Hargrove's books and this 1 was no exception.

It carries on from book 1's story. It has Lexi, Pearce, the Middleton family. It brings with it a certain taste for more sex, more love and definitely more HOT characters. Terri and Justin used to date in book 1 but they had an accident. Well let's say that when these 2 get together there are going to be sparks flying left, right and centre. There is all the LOVE, ROMANCE, SEX in this book to make you read it from start to finish. It also has some conspiracy in the book too.

Now I am off to read the next installment to this wonderful series.

Although it shares some characters with Edge of Disaster, this is a different romance, a different story. It takes an even darker turn and spins the world on its head.

I was able to join in on the beta read for this book, and without giving away too much, I found against the direction this book took. I was pissed. I sent many an unhappy email, as A.M. can confirm. My re-read of the final allowed me to look at the story again without the 'newness' of the sting biting too badly.

More review to come...

I received a free copy of this book from A.M. Hargrove in exchange for an honest review. I did not receive any compensation; my thoughts are my own.

I don't know why but I felt the story is a bit wired and "forced". The last part of the story felt like a complete different story line and would legal enforcement kind of put their employee's in such a danger that their family members are no longer safe and need to give up their "life" as well? It kind of feel unrealistic.

Another hit by Mrs. Hargrove. There were a lot of familiar characters in this book that made it extra fun for me to read. The story was a touching love story with LOTS of heat. The Edge series is definitely a must read!

SHATTERED EDGE by A. M. Hargrove is book Two in the Edge Series. This is the story of Terri and Justin. This is a interconnecting series so it does add to your enjoyment if you have read the previous book. But, with that said this can be a standalone if you wanted it to be. Terri is recovering from a accident but at the same time she has been crushing on Justin. Justin is the playboy but now that Terri is in the picture. Enjoyed

Caution! Warning!
This book is dangerously sexy! Off the charts steamy and overflowing with sexiness! In fact I challenge you. I challenge you to pick this book up and read even a little bit without finding yourself in a seriously frisky mood.

I devoured this book and it devoured me in return. Not only do we get a seriously sexy story that leaves us drooling and fanning ourselves. We also get an amazing story line that is so jam packed full with surprises and twists, it's astounding!

Terri & Justin, whom we met in the first Edge Novel as Lexi's best friend and Pearce's brother, are dealing with a magnetic force that is shaking their world's right to the core. Their relationship is not without it's complications, believe me, but despite those giant bumps in the road they just cannot resist each other. They cannot be alone in a room for more than a few minutes without clothes flying and temperatures rising. But their relationship goes even deeper than that mind blowing-ly intensity. They have a love for each other that has overcome the craziest obstacles and seen them through some really rough times.

Now I've come to learn that Hargrove creates male characters like Picasso created art. She's a master, she really knows what she's doing! But I found what made Justin more special than the rest of them and made me love him even more was he was not your perfect dream guy. At least not until he met Terri. He had a rocky past with the female variety and he had done some pretty terrible things that were borderline unforgivable. But Terri made him want to change all of that. To become a better version of himself and to show her just what kind of man he could be for her. And wow, did he ever step up. So there I was, yet again, frothing at the mouth over another one of Hargrove's dream men.

This book was surprisingly heart wrenching. I did not expect my heart to break and mend repeatedly like it did. Then there were surprises that just came flying out of nowhere and slammed right into you. My jaw literally dropped on a few occasions and I was left turning pages relentlessly because how could I not find out what happened next?!

Yet another amazing story from the mind of Anne Hargrove. I don't know how she does it! She's a lean, mean, writing machine. Not that I am complaining because I just can't seem to get enough! Just when I think that this story is the best, I'm floored all over again when I pick up the next one.

You've got to read this. Seriously! You've got romance that will make you swoon, drama that will make your heart race, a guy that will make you melt and drool, and the sex......OH....MY..-EXPLETIVE-. All I can say is I am so glad that my husband was near by because I don't think I could have made it all the way through without blowing off some of that steam. Be prepared ladies to have your socks rocked right off!

Thank you again Anne for the wonderful, incredible story!
P.S. My husband thanks you too ;)

Justin and Terri have both carried feelings for each other ever since they ended a short lived relationship 6 months ago. But neither could find it in themselves to move on. So when they come face to face at a wedding, both decide to give it another go. Quickly things escalate between the two and as they say the rest is history. Or is it? Heck no! Pesky stalkers, drug head brothers, and a scandal among family make several appearances and try to wreak havoc on these love birds.

I absolutely loved SHATTERED EDGE. Like loved-loved. So much more than EDGE OF DISASTER, where a couple corny scenes had me rating it 4 out of 5 stars. But with this one? I am so giving it a 5 star rating!! No corny scenes what so ever. Now I admit I was a little scared there for a second that I was going to have to rate it lesser than 5 stars. It was that ending that Hargrove introduced and I was scared it would come off unbelievable. But oh no, Hargrove knows what she was doing and she had me flipping out. So good!

And yes, I so loved Terri and Justin. I thought they were great together and I am so glad they decided to try again after a horrific ending to a relationship that barely had a chance to start. They are so cute together. And the best part is they act like your average Joe when they hang out together. Lots of times you find them just hanging out at each other’s houses ordering in. Yeah Justin is beyond rich, but you would hardly know it. Now I didn’t say they would just sit around watching tv. Oh no, these two can’t keep their hands…or tongues…off each other. Whoo boy!

Looking for a hot romance? Look no further. SHATTERED EDGE is a great read that is sure to please. Be sure you check out book one in the series, EDGE OF DISASTER first so you can get a little background to Justin and Terri’s story.

After being introduced to one another by her best friend Lexi and his brother Pearce Terri Mitchell and Justin Middleton hit it off until one fateful car wreck that almost ends his life and she almost loses her leg.

Justin has so much guilt over the accident that he turns to alcohol and sex to help him cope with the accident that left Terri in so much misery and pain. Terri is frustrated with the way things have turned out and that Justin would hurt her so deeply with his confession.

At last Justin tries one last time to reach out to Terri...give him six months to prove that they belong together or he will leave her alone and never bother her again. It is a challenge that Terri's heart just can't refuse.

Terri and Justin end up on a world wind romance with obstacles such as the drug addict brother of Terri's that shows up at her house and a coniving nurse that will stop at nothing to get to Justin.

Upon the apparent suicide of Terri's father she finds out that her brother really is a DEA agent and that her father was murdered because of her brother Preston. She and her mother are put into witness protection upon their "death". Terri can't cope with the loss of Justin. After being institutionalized she realizes that she has to live for him. Justin is devastated by the loss of his fiancee. He can't deal and he can't cope.

Terri, now Caroline Cole, makes the decision that she must fight to get keep Justin and his family safe and alive. After 18 months of being "dead" the drug cartel that killed her father and ultimately her mom and herself has finally been eliminated.

Caroline has to let Justin and her past as Terri go. She goes to Charleston to tell him so that he can move on with his. She can never be Terri again.

Will Justin and Caroline have a second chance at love together or will it be "Shattered Edge" ?

Shattered Edge is definitely a great follow up to Edge of Disaster and much better!

Justin and Terri's story is amazing. I love how strong Terri is and the determination of Justin to win her over. It's definitely a battle of wills but love will always win.

Justin wants to help Terri overcome her accident but he also needs to deal with his issues of guilt. These two have obstacles to overcome and it won't be easy. But once they do - boy do things really heat up between them!

There is alot of passion and amazing heat between them - just be well prepared when reading this book. It's hot!

But not everything is always beautiful for these two. They have some other problems outside of their relationship that will cause some ripples in their lives. And the one huge twist - wow. I didn't see that coming at all - talk about keeping you at the edge of your seat!

Very well written and defintely recommended.

I don't think 5 stars is enough for this book! I am not sure there are enough words to do this justice. It's very hard to talk aout thus book without spoiling! This is a must read, but book 1 needs to be read first to understand everything. Justin was just as yummy as he was in book 1 before the accident. Terri was just as strong. There story is far from your typical romance. This had many intense momets. I couldn't put it down! Pulled an all nighter to finish in one sitting. It was well worth being tired and cranky the next day! I hope there is more. Ava needs a story and Steven too. I want more of Preston and Lexi and I feel like there is much more of Justin left!

During parts of this book I felt like I was reading the first book in the series all over again. There were so many similarities with the guy being a surgeon and having a woman basically obsessing over him trying to ruin his relationship with the female lead who also is having problems of her own with someone coming after her and needing to get an alarm system. Not to mention in both books it seems to take a couple of days to say I love you and not too much longer after that to be engaged... It just seemed repetitive to me and I am hoping the next book is not the same way. I also wish I would have had a counter for the number of times the word "panties" was used.

I really thought the story was gonna continue on with Lex and Pearce. We,, as long as it has another Middleton in it. Justin was living with guilt because he was driving when him and Terri got in a wreck that cause her permanent leg damage. He finally got the courage to speck up and tell her at his brother's wedding. He wants to make it up to Terri. Terri keeps on having bad things happening to her and Justin is always there for her to lean on. Crazy ending. But beautiful.

I enjoyed reading about Terri and Justin. Very good love story and I liked how Terri wasn't a dramatic annoying heroine. Justin was a sweetheart also despite his past, which in my opinion was that bad. The last 30 pages, I did not expect that to happen. I was blown with that twist. I just wish it could have been a little longer. I felt everything was rushed. But I did enjoy this series. I hope there is more. I would like to read a book about Preston.

A great story! The story line was good but something happens towards the end that I found unbelievable and crazy at first but the way the author had written the ending was beautifully executed and makes me wished the ending had more to go on as I think it got a lot more exciting towards the end. Highly recommend! Now I need to read the first book in the series since I missed it lol

In this book about Terri and Justin, we find that Terri has mostly recovered from her injuries to her leg and it starts out at Lexi and Pearce's wedding. We see Lexi and Justin both decide that they want a relationship and then the book takes some plot twists and turns that are unexpected and change the entire story. It was an interesting read and I liked it.

I am conflicted about this book, it's like the author started one story and then two thirds in decided to change the story completely. Up until that point I liked the book, after the big turn of events it just got weird and completely unrealistic.
