Living Dead Love Story #3

Zombies Don't Surrender

Rate this book
As the final volume in the Living Dead Love Stories opens, Maddy, Dane, and Stamp are still together, though barely, nestled safely inside the walls of Sentinel City, a stronghold designed to keep Zerkers out—and zombies in.

Maddy trains night and day, hoping to join Vera as a Keeper. Dane has been given Sentinel Support in the form a busty blonde named Courtney. And what of Stamp? Although Maddy’s dad has worked hard to rehabilitate him after his Zerker bite, he’s still not all . . . there.

When Dr. Swift inadvertently allows the zombies’ archenemy, Val, to escape from Sentinel City, Maddy’s world turns upside down. She and Stamp are Vanished—expelled from the safety of Sentinel City, no better than common Zerkers. Dane, a Sentinel now, escapes punishment and is assigned to ensure that his old friends never return.

As Maddy and Stamp stray from the safety of Sentinel City, danger mounts . . . and not just for them. Val has taken up residence in a seaside town and enrolled in another Normal high school. To outwit her and save Seagull Shores from all-out zombie Armageddon, Maddy must face her archenemy once again.

Only this time, she’s all alone . . .

This is for the advanced review copy which I received. As with the previous book, Zombies Don't Forgive, there were a number of continuity errors which did not make sense. Ultimately the whole zombie hierarchal society concept just doesn't hold up very well. The ending battle was expected, but again fell short, and seemed to have been ended too neatly. Overall, after reading this and the previous 2 books, the series just wasn't very satisfying.

I was totally looking forward to this book, sadly, it was just not meant to be. Especially not with the ending. My God, that ending.

This is also the first book in this series that I didn't rate a 5 stars. I just felt like it lacked, especially with the anti-climatic fight, that should have been way better and the lack-luster and especially cop-out ending.

Most of the book was good, but around 3/4 of the book I started noticing that we probably won't get a good ending, there was just too much still going on that needed to be wrapped up and soon. The whole battle against the most evil of zombies (aka as Val) turned out to be utterly anti-climatic and boring. I just expected more of a arch nemesis as big as Val. I expected an epic battle between two zombies. Instead I got a pretty lame-ass battle/confrontation. And then the ending... Oh, I am still shaking my head at that one. So sad that instead of conclusive Mr. Fischer left it wide open, nothing conclusive. I won't spoil much, maybe other people will love the ending, but I didn't.

I did love the characters, and seeing them again. Poor Stamp, while better, he still is not the old Stamp I really used to like. He can barely do anything, needs help with a lot, and can't understand basic stuff. He is like a kid/baby.

I did love Maddie, and how she did her best to live and find a place for her and Stamp when they were Vanished. I loved how she tried her best, but I also hated her for her attitude/decisions, she could have saved that girl, but decided to watch. :\ I just felt sick when I read about that part.

And Val, urgh, Val. Really girl drop the whole revenge thing, it just gets old that you have to go after Maddie every time and destroy everything in your path.

Well all in all it was a good series, just a shame it had to end like this. I do hope Mr. Fischer will make a new zombie series though, and hopefully that one will have a good ending. :)

Ok so I read this book before I won it from goodreads, but I will still write a review. So I kind of had high hopes for this one. This series was never a "omg I need the next one right now!" Series for me, hut don't get me wrong I love the series, but it was more of a treat/snack read for me almost, I read it cajse I felt like I deserved a fun little series that wasn't really serious like all the other booka you can find. And that is what this book is, yes it drags me in, yes the characters are very relateable and like able, I do have to say stamp was never my favorite, albeit I loved him in the last one. So in every aspect I love this series except one little thing, but it didn't ruin it I just thought it was unlikely. So kind of a spoioer but I'm not going to go into detail, plus seriously if you don't see it coming I'm sorry but what books have you been reading?!?? Ok so the battle scene thing with Val, (still haven't decide if I thin k she is a strong villian or not) ok so this was just way way way toooooooooo EASY! like seriously you spent the last (as in the second one) book trying to fight her, take her down, kill her you choose, and they cant and then we get to this las t one and maybe 6 or 7 pages is the whole fight scenen like come one! She had a FLIPPIN ARMY OF ZERKERS, and she is taken down in 6 pages really? And none of her zerkers, ok one, was there to help her?!?! What the freaking flip was going through your head Rusty?

Ok but yes I LLove this book series as in L-O-V-E, go read it ititititititit

Well, I was right in my last review: things sure go to hell in a handbasket in this one. Unfortunately, in more ways than one. I've been reading and reviewing this series for three years now, thoroughly enjoying Mr. Fischer's upbeat, campy, B-movie style and humor. But all good things come to an end, it seems, and so I delve into the final installment in Maddy's Living Dead Love Story.

Read my full review at The Wolf's Den

Overall, I'm sure Zombies Don't Surrender is a must-read for fans of the series, for the sake of closure and all, but for me, I almost wish Maddy's story had ended on the hopeful note of the first book, or even the cheery note of the second. I'd still recommend the series for any who enjoy YA romance, zombies, or humorous horror, as that is definitely Fischer's forte. As always, the gore is kept mostly in low-detail, however the zombie violence and one nasty incident involving dogs has me suggesting readers be no younger than middle school, and probably safer in high school and up. I'm sorry to see Maddy and co. leave, but I suppose all good things must come to an end...unless, of course, you're a zombie.

It was kind of a rehash of the first two books. I did like the addition of Lucy as a sleeper....but there wasn't enough new going on for my tastes.
