Rengeteg érdekes dolgot tudhat meg az is ebből a könyvből, akinek azért már mond valamit a dór, ión, korinthoszi oszlopfő, ráadásul nagyon könnyen emészthető formában. A rajzok jópofák és informatívak is, de a poénokat sokszor nem sikerült átültetni magyarra. Helyette viszont beraktak pár teljesen magyar vonatkozású épületet, ami engem nagyon kizökkentett olvasás közben, mivel tudom, hogy nem magyar a szerző. Voltak benne hibák, lehet, fordítás közben kerültek bele, nem tudom. És persze részben aktualitását vesztette (WTC és a legmagasabb épület).

Valamiért nem emlékeztem arra például, hogy a Colosseumnak volt vászonteteje, arról pedig nem is hallottam soha, hogy a munkások keze az Eiffel-toronyhoz fagyott (és levált a bőr a tenyerükről, amikor télen elvették a jéghideg acélváztól). Eddig az a tény is elkerült, hogy Gaudí valódi csecsemők holttestéről készített öntőformát a Sagrada Familia díszítéséhez. Magában is morbidnak tűnt a csecsemő mint dísz, de most már olyan gyomorforgató, hogy talán legközelebb sem állom ki a több órás sort. A sydney-i operaházhoz pedig elfelejtettek parkolót építeni? Hihi. Azt is megtudtam, hogy az Empire State Building építésén a legtöbb munkás mohawk indián volt, mert nem féltek a magasságtól.

A Neuschwanstein kastéllyal kapcsolatban nekem nagyon hiányzott az az érdekes tény, hogy Walt Disney erről modellezte Csipkerózsika/Hamupipőke kastélyát.

When I was growing up I loved reading this series. Saw it recently for 3€ and had to buy it. A miscellaneous collection of facts told in a funny (british) humorous way. This time it is about buildings and architecture. Through it I recognized some buildings, learned some facts and had fun. It is a great way to stimulate interest from younger readers.
PS: Didn´t know a lot of the facts described about the Eiffel Tower.
