The fuck!!!
What kind of stupid ending is this?
They didn't even explain what happened to the mother ship, that was on its way to crash into earth,
there is no explanation whatsoever for tae chan and ayumo to be there when kei kurono and katou get out of the water!
I think the writer might have been in a hurry and didn't want to put one more chapter for the ending to be great fuck it man i didn't like this ending not even one bit.
(In Hindsight my impression of this series, great series with a few bad volumes, and a really really bad ending, but is it worth it? would i recommend it? and my answer is 100% yes, it's a land mark of manga in general, and one of the best action Manga ever created, and the writing style is great, maybe the third best writing in manga that i have read)

Rushed ending of the saga but is ok.
Matrix. Dead people turning alien hunters after death. Sex. Action.
Ultra-violence. Friendship. Sci-fi hi-tech. Horror. Great characters. Gore. Love. Suicides. References to manga/anime/movies/art (from Macross/Robotech Zentradi to Salvador Dalí!!!). Dinosaurs. Parents beating kids to death. Vampires. Sacrifice. Disturbing body horror. Students shooting classmates. Giant mechas. The end of the world.
All of this and more in an almost senseless story hiding a deep critic/analysis of modern japanese (and others) society, awesome art (so good that sometimes you forget about the story) and Kei Kurono is a great whiner turning hero main character in the best manga/anime tradition (Amuro Rei, Shinji Ikari, Simon the digger and so on).
Had a real blast reading this series and the 2 live action movies are nice too. Sooner or later I really have to check the anime series too.

Had potential but it didn't live up to my expectations. Feels unfinished. I wanted a better ending. The incessant use of breasts after every chapter end upto vol 23 (?) was a lot for me, made me super uncomfortable and some of the panels spent too much time on them ✋🏻😒 I get it he's a teenage boy but stop 🛑.

A juzgar por todas las malas opiniones que tiene el final me esperaba el peor final del mundo, pero resultó bastante bien.
En general Gantz fue una buena historia; el dibujo genial, adoré que el autor no necesitara de diálogos para dar a entender lo que pasaba; las peleas épicas; uno de los mejores desarrollos de protagonista que he leído; la relación amorosa se sintió natural y real, cosa que, desde mi punto de vista, en los mangas muy rara vez pasa.
Tuvo sus detalles malos, sucesos y personajes que al final no le aportaron nada a la trama, asuntos sin resolver, y definitivamente le sobraban pechos... muchos pechos. Pero a pesar de eso lo recomiendo.

Motherfathers, what a disappointing ending!!
In the last two volumes, the author tries to convey his views on atheism, telling the members of Gantz that they are just dust or matter, no more valuable than bugs.
In my opinion, volumes 19-20 represent the climax of the series and could have concluded the story. The subsequent volumes depict battles with unclear purposes.
It's hard for me to recommend this manga to anyone.

Solid ending to a great manga.

Bueno... final final de la serie. Este último arco creo que fue el peor de los tres, tiene sus cosas interesantes y sigue siendo tan adictivo como los otros, pero probablemente por la inercia de lo buenos que son los dos primeros tercios. El final realmente me decepcionó un poco, me pareció un poco cursi pero sobre todo bastante genérico. Más allá de esos defectos creo que es una excelente obra que vale la pena leer.

El manga fue bastante entretenido durante buena parte, mientras mantuvo esa mezcla de gore, cosas wtf y muertes inesperadas de los primeros volúmenes.
Lamentablemente el último arco me pareció muy meh y distinto a todo lo que venía siendo la historia. También los finales de la mayoría de los personajes me dejaron gusto a poco.

La batalla final por la humanidad con un cierre más optimista de lo que se podría esperar del autor, aunque leyendo la entrevista que le hacen pareciera que esa siempre fue su intención.

This manga had a lot of potential. I had high hopes for it. But the ending wrecked everything. The ending could have been much better. It felt hasty, incomplete and silly.

GantZ es uno de esos trabajos que se ven afectados por la cultura de explotación laboral japonesa. Cómo puede ser que una obra de 37 tomos termine así. Es un insulto que 10 capítulos antes del final invoquen a una raza alienígena desconocida para explicar el porqué de las cosas; y que también de repente te digan: en dos capítulos termina, osea, ¿cómo?
Independientemente del final, los personajes femeninos acartonados, el exceso de plot armor y los elementos randoms que se abandonaron a lo largo de la obra; la encuentro sumamente entretenida e interesante, aunque las cosas que la hacen así se lleguen a diluir entre tanta pelea.

Sinceridad ante todo.
Gantz al principio era increíble, la Trama que tenia era algo nuevo y misterioso dado que tu no sabias que era lo que pasaba, como es que volvían de la muerte, quienes dirijan Gantz, etc.
¿Saben cuando sentí que las cosas fueron bajando de perfección? Cuando Kurono fue libre, conoció a su novia y se fueron revelando quienes habían creado Gantz aunq no del todo.
Luego viene la dichosa invasión que para mí fue absurda (me refiero en cuanto trama) primero porque Kurono la mayor parte del time busco a su novia (gran lapso en el que no salva humanos ni combate al enemigo), derrota al boss de una manera tonta y se lleva toda la gloria cuando hubieron muchas personas que ayudaron a destruir aliens, mutantes e incluso ayudaron a Kurono a derrotar al boss, lamentablemente murieron en el intento... Entre ellos mi crush el peli blanco ese bello, hermoso y precioso... Ryuji, ese man se ganó mi corazón fren. Yo seguí leyendo Gantz por esa criatura porque ni ganas me daba de leer el último arco, ah pero que cosas de la vida.
Al final todo queda en plan... Okay bueno y entonces que paso pues....y la gente?... Y la promesa que le hicieron a la Alien de no destruir su raza se la pasaron por el ass... Todo quedo muy "mheeee"
Lo único positivo de esto es que revivieron a Ryuji, a Kato no le pasó nada y también revivieron al dude de la Katana que me caía bien.

Just copy-pasting series review in first and the last of this manga.
It was ok, had some highs, many lows.
First, idk, ~100 chapters the author felt like some horny kid, which reflected in the main character. Bit eyerolly. Still, I liked the concept of the storyline. Then it cleaned up for a while, where I assumed he got some better more specific contract to forced him to clean up his act. Did not last particularly long, though it was better than before. Later on he found a way to shoehorn in a lot more nudity again though. Also the author has a reeeaaally low opinion on women it seems.
From around the point they go to Osaka, the action got a bit too confusing to easily follow. I seem to have this problem a lot with action in manga though. Still, ruins things a bit for me. Plus not as much a fan of entire chapters with no dialogue and just things and people exploding.
Story could have done with more exposure. Suddenly there's vampires and people with psychic powers, what? Never explained, feels incredibly random.
Also for seemingly the entire second half everyone was either panting or crying buckets. Gets old pretty fast.
The ending felt rushed and silly too.
I liked the story idea originally, but pretty underwhelmed all in all.

This manga was fancinating and intringuing from volume 1. The art is superb, the storyline is very complex and the characters are relatable.
The grand finale, against the invaders, was very rich and the final battle itself was fascinating, albeit a bit too heroic (considering there was no reason for Kurono to be fighting the guy alone from the start).
Still, the actual ending, when Kurono returns home, was unsatisfying. How did they manage to survive in space? I guess the suit protected them while descending to earth but there's no mask in the suit so they wouldn't be able to breathe. Or did I miss something?
The final scene was as expected and I guess I'm really happy with that. Because after everything, Kurono and Katou deserved it.
All in all, a great manga, worth reading and appreciating.

يبدو ان العمليه بهوئت منه شويه فحاول فى النهاية انه يلمها
بس فكره الالحاد فى المانجا فجة اوى

the last chapter leaves you with a lot of small gaps but you could fill it your self with your imagination :)
the the total art in this manga is little bit confusing
the nudity is very high especially in the last volumes

Rushed ending aside, I had such a blast with this series. It was nonstop epicness from start to finish and I am just OBSESSED. This specific volume would get a 3.5/5. The series as a whole is 5 stars!

la nota es general para todo el manga de principio a fin. le pondría más porque sí que es brutal... pero hay tantas cosas que no se pueden tolerar y no tienen justificación alguna...
violaciones y abusos sexuales completamente gratuitos y expuestos como escenas que deberían excitar al público masculino; mujeres "protagonistas" como meros objetos con tetas gordas y dependencia emocional hacia hombres que han conocido hace cinco minutos y solo están para satisfacer sus necesidades sexuales y fantasías turbias (y qué cojones las de los lectores pajeros también qué asco dais). no es cool, es incómodo de cojones y, como mujer, dan ganas de ahorcarse. una verdadera lástima que un material tan apasionante se mezcle con un fan service putrefacto (como en evangelion y realmente casi cualquier maldito seinen).
haciendo un ejercicio TITÁNICO por pasar de largo ante cada imagen de una mujer en bolas a principio de capítulo (que por cierto, los penes no se ven casi eee, cabrones), sí puedo decir que gantz es una absoluta locura de obra. una maravilla narrativa y una bestialidad visual. no, no estoy de acuerdo con muchas opiniones que he leído de "gantz está de puta madre, pero cuando tienes 13 años" porque 1. no creo que este manga sea para un público tan joven, el nivel de gore es demencial y 2. me sorprendería que un pavo preadolescente pudiese apreciar al detalle las capas de análisis del comportamiento humano que presenta gantz.
sí, a primera vista cae en una millonada de clichés (protagonista heroico con fuerzas inhumanas, rodeado de mujeres que quieren casarse con él y dejar toda su vida de lado como reika que deja su puto trabajo de idol pfff, personajes masculinos que quieren ser como el prota...), pero!! quiero pensar que todo lleva su pincelada de parodia, como creo haber apreciado en Inuyashiki.
y ya pa callarme y quedarme a gusto solo me queda decir que con el final no me siento criticona. todo el manga es una ida de olla in crescendo a pasos agigantados, por supuesto que no me iba a decepcionar un final que parece una historia entera distinta! batallas epiquísimas hasta el final, grandes sacrificios para salvar a la humanidad y cada personaje en el sitio en el que merece estar!! no podía pedir nada mejor para cerrar esta lectura esquizofrénica <3

Le pongo un 3 a la serie entera, y siento estoy generoso después del final.
Está bastante guay hasta el final de la Fase 1, un poco lento el principio pero luego coge impulso y te pega duro. Hay personajes interesantes y entretenidos, y otros que sobran o no los desarrollan como es debido, lo típico.
Ahora, después de la Fase 1 es una ida de olla por el mal camino. Abandonan tramas, cambian cosas y reglas, y el final es una mierda. Todo el arco final lo leí con prisas porque no me resultaba ni interesante ni llamativo, encima parece que lo hicieron sin ganas porque ni se molestaron en dibujar nada excepto a los personajes (los escenarios eran fotos a las que se les puso un filtro de blanco y negro, y los bichos estaban hechos a ordenador, muy feo todo).
Otro buen manga que debería haber terminado en su momento más álgido, y la cagaron. Debería haber terminado en el arco de Osaka.
Y ya podrían haber puesto algún personaje femenino que hiciera otra cosa que enamorarse de uno de los protas, joder.

La verdad innecesaria, ya los aliens iban en retirada, los gantz regresando (aparte de repente se levanta la restricción de solo teletransportar de uno en uno)
Aparte con lo que pasa después se pierde el sentido de la promesa, may mul mal

En cuanto a la serie completa, me ha gustado todo lo de las misiones, el misterio al principio de que son las esferas, que onda con los aliens y así, algunas muy buenas peleas.

I was really invested. This manga was so long yet so worth it. Up until that very rushed ending! It took a huge dump on what could've been the greatest science fiction/ horror manga of all time but to me the ending just ruined it all. Still going to give it 3 stars because the joyrney was great. But oh my God am I so angry and disappointed.

Le pondré las 5 estrellas por el simple hecho que las últimas dos escenas me hicieron un nudo en la garganta (y porque puse música triste adhoc a la ocasión, lo cual influyó demasiado).
Ay Gantz, no sé qué decir. A pesar de que hay varias preguntas que sí fueron contestadas, siento que no me terminaron de satisfacer por completo, sin embargo en este último tomo, las cosas se vuelven más crudas ya que Kei debe enfrentarse con el líder de los aliens, pero sus compañeros lo terminan ayudando de tal manera que al parecer los únicos sobrevivientes de todo el alboroto fueron Kei y Kato (además de El señor musculoso y Takeshi, a quienes ya daba por perdidos en el más allá, pero los descubrí después de un rato).
Debo decir que en un principio Gantz no me gustaba y sólo lo continuaba con la esperanza de que se pusiera mejor (cosa que precisamente fue así), pero a la mitad de la historia sentía que las cosas sólo pasaban por pasar y hubo un momento donde en verdad ya me tenía harta eso de "regreso con Tae pero la matan, luego la reviven y me matan a mí, luego se pierde, luego me pierdo, me voy, nos reunimos" y así cien veces más; fácilmente puedo ver a Gantz como una de las historias de amor con más acción de por medio.
Si bien el tema de los aliens y demonios se resolvió de una manera pragmática, no me termina de convencer qué fue lo que pasó con todas las demás personas, con todas las esferas negras en Alemania, con otros aliens, el porqué Gantz comenzó a fallar mucho antes de que este "plot twist" fuera presentado, si en "el salón de la verdad" les dijeron que la Tierra fue escogida por fines prácticos ¿quién les asegura que la historia no se vuelva a repetir en un tiempo?
A decir verdad, cuando comencé a leer Gantz no tenía ni la menor idea de qué se trataba (creo que fue lo mejor porque si hubiera sabido probablemente no lo hubiera empezado), pero pensé que tomaría un rumbo distinto a como terminó. Me gustaban los toques de acción al principio y también me desvivía por las escenas de Kei con Tae, pero llegó un momento donde la acción era excesiva, y si bien están en batallas y guerras, creo que podría haber más de un diálogo cada diez páginas (igualmente sea probable que piense así porque jamás había leído un manga con tanta acción y estoy acostumbrada a otro tipo de historias).
Es decir, sí, me gustó Gantz aunque no siento que sea una historia profunda, ni la mejor historia del siglo, sin embargo si creo que Hiroya se creó este mundo impresionante con muchos factores en medio, armas, reglas y personajes que si bien no todos sobrevivieron, por lo menos mostraron la cruda realidad: no importa quién seas ni qué hagas, tarde o temprano vas a morir. Así que un minuto de silencio por esos personajes de los que ni siquiera me pude aprender sus nombres porque murieron casi enseguida.

Well I guess that was it. I cannot believe I read through all 37 volumes in just 18 days.
This series is so fucking awesome but also really silly and weird and I don't even know what to think.
Objectively it is simply not really good, but it's just so much fun that I kind of love it regardless.

The final challenge: Kei Kurono vs Eeva Gund.
Both of them matching up with each other until Eeva got the advantage. The other Gantz members come to fight together. Most of them were lose and Kurono give his last powerful strike through Eeva's head. The aliens officially lose. The mothership is still in self-destruction mode. The remaining members escape by using the aircraft.
Humanity is preserved!

I think this is the best seinen manga I have ever read (so far). This is also the second time I read the manga and I probably more understand the storyline and what is Gantz actually. There are ups and downs in the storyline. The gore and violence are top notch. The art is soooooo beautiful. I know, Oku used some 3D modelling for most of the background design, but still it is so perfect (in my sight at least). A bit off when Oku used 3D modelling for the aliens' design (in the Invasion arc). Character development for most of the characters are good. Interconnection between storyline is also good.
In the Room of Truth, main philosophy thing that has been touched upon is about existentialism. "Human are just a mere thing made by a chemical reaction. Souls are just 21 grams of data that can be transferred from a person to another person when they die". This thing also touches about reincarnation.

Gantz is the story where people is brought back from the dead to kill some ugly aliens. Lots and lots of blood and death. And some adult scenes. The story is really good in the middle stretch but the romance subplot kind of drag the story down. Plus the ending is a bit unsatisfactory. Alas, this kind of story that starts really bizarre and becoming more so tend to be hard to be tied neatly at the end.
P/S: At first, I don't want to include manga as part of my gr challenge but at this point, I will never be able to complete the challenge. So I'll include those that I've read this year from the beginning till its end.

This is a review of the entire series.
Synopsis: Gantz tells the story of a teenager named Kei Kurono, among others, who die but find themselves brought back in perfectly healthy bodies and forced to participate in a "game" where they must hunt down and kill aliens.
Review: I almost gave up on Gantz several times, but now that I've read it all the way to the end, I'm glad I stuck with it. The beginning is dragged down by repulsive and unlikable characters, a messily paced story, unnecessary sexualization and gratuitous violence without much substance. As it progresses, however, the character development becomes pretty incredible and the growing threat of the enemies feels truly well done. Once the real enemies are revealed, it's mind-blowing how the series had been secretly foreshadowing their arrival from the very beginning.
Although it takes a while, some really good characters are introduced later on in the series and they're the ones that made me want to read to the end. Some characters that were absolutely unbearable in the beginning became polar opposites of their original selves and even made me sympathize with them quite a bit. The protagonist Kei for example, I hated him with all my heart for the first third of the series, he became progressively more likable in the second third of the story and then he evolved into one of the most memorable, unlikely heroes I've ever seen in this storytelling medium throughout the final third. The last third of the series is unbelievably terrifying with some of the most gruesome and disgusting battle/survival scenes in the history of fiction. It's much more bearable and intense in the final third because this time the violence and horror is happening to people we actually care about instead of a bunch of unlikable nobodies.
The final third of the story is what made me feel so glad that I didn't give up on this series. It had me on the edge of my seat more times than I can recall. There are a ton of chapters but they're very short and full of action which makes the series a quick read despite having almost 400 chapters. So even though the first third of the story was kinda bad in my opinion, it doesn't last for long and the payoff that comes after it's over truly impressed me. It's a flawed, thrilling and horrifying action series that takes a while to kick off. When it finally kicks off, however, it kicks off extremely hard.
