When Kelly Donovan arrives by ferry on an isolated island in the middle of the Puget Sound, she only wants to paint the mural she has been commissioned to create for the daughter of world-renowned financier and entrepreneur Harrison St. John, and then move on.
But from Kelly's first night at the Manor, a mysterious woman in yellow begins to haunt her dreams urging Kelly to "find the truth." Petals from a gardenia, the signature flower of Elizabeth St. John who died tragically in a drowning accident two years earlier, show up on Kelly's pillow that night after night.
Like it or not, Kelly is swept into the maelstrom of emotion and intrigue that surround Elizabeth's death and Harrison's secret pain.
I admit it. I was taken by the setting of this one. A manor house on an island off the coast of the Pacific Northwest & some dark mystery with And so I endured the insta-love (way too deep feelings when Kelly hadn't even been at Hawk Manor for 48 hours) & the predictability of this book (Kendra... who didn't see that coming? & so many other things that I won't spoil here). I liked the relationship between Kelly & Betsy & that Kelly was an artist. In general, her character had a pretty good personality & decent dialog & good interaction with the other characters but since this is much more a romance, the relationship with Harrision figures in more heavily & he's predictably, a brooding jerk too. As believing & being swept away is a major part of making a romance enjoyable, I didn't much enjoy this one. It's hard to love it when you don't much like the object of the heroine's affection. The editing was well done & I saw no typos. It was simply ok as a weekend read but I'm glad that I finally got to it on my Kindle (it had been waiting in my TBR for months.
An artist, Kelly Drummond, is contracted to construct a wall mural in the bedroom of the daughter of Tycoon recluse, Harrison St John. There had been the death of Elizabeth St John, a couple of years earlier, which had sent her husband into his reclusive state. This new intruder is brass and outspoken, willing to stand up for herself and her friends. Immediately, there's magnetism between Harrison and Kelly. However, there's also strange forces at work, so as the story unfolds, you are left to ponder at their intent, whether good or evil. It is a suspenseful and dramatic tale, leaving you guessing 'Who Done it' and whether they will be found out in time.
Kelly arrives at Harrison's home to paint a mural for his daughter, Betsy. almost immediately, something is...about. Petals of a particular flowers, a woman in a yellow dress, and a blue light.
Harrison locked himself and his daughter away, 2 years ago, after his wife, Elizabeth, drowned. He hates his best friend and his wife, for there is evidence of an affair.
Elizabeth needs Harrison to understand, and goes to great pains to speak with him, including taking over Kelly.
not a bad tale, a decent length too. but I didn't much feel for Harrison. another reviewer hit the nail on the head "It's hard to love it when you don't much like the object of the heroine's affection."
I also didn't much care for Kendra, Harrison's assistant. But she plays a big role, and i'll not spoil it.
I would have been a bit disappointed, had I PAID for it, it was free and I've had it a while (august!)
