The Fallen King

It's very hard to review each episode from a series.
Now I've read 8 episodes, some I gave 5 stars, some 4 or even 3.

When I look back at all 8, I must give it 5 stars.
Especially this episode was awesome.

We go back to the mansion, I loved that.
It's a very sad episode, but it's ok...
It belongs to the story to make it complete.

Now we wait for the final season, can't wait.

Oh Rhiannon, how you love to torture us! Man, what a great addition to this amazing series. We follow Vanora while she is running away after what happened to her friend. She is now going back to visit her older siblings, Roman and Alisha. Unfortunately it is not going to be a friendly visit. Vanora had a vision that something bad will happen to Roman and it is up to her and Armando to convince him before it is too late.

This serial really started off with a bang. Armando is trying his best to save Vanora. Aeron is after her and some of his ex-minions are after her while she is on the road. Armando still loves Vanora even though she is clearly frightened of him. Vanora hates that she has feelings for Armando still after all that has happened. But she knows that she can't resist him. I love that Frater has given us more of Armando and that we see things from his side as well as Vanora. I loved that we got to see the connection again between Vanora and her siblings. They have such a strong bond still and it was nice seeing them reunite. I was even surprised with Carlotta who Roman is now engaged to. I didn't like her before, but it actually seems like she really does love him. It was really nice.

I won't give anything anyway, but the next serial is sure to be insane. I am both excited and scared. It is going to be epic. Vanora is really coming into her own and I love seeing her grow with each serial. I can't wait to see what Frater will do with her next. Frater never disappoints, but I was betting on tears this time around. I think she is out to torture us. That is the only explanation. Another great serial, book 9 can't get here fast enough.

Rhiannon Frater why must you always play with my emotions? This very short serial packs one heck of a punch as per Rhiannon Frater’s usual style. Every single episode has left me wanting more, but while this one has me wanting more it also has me wary of what may be happening in the future installment. Vanora has suffered so much throughout In Darkness We Must Abide, and I think that her suffering has quadrupled in the last few episodes alone. Tensions are rising, and I think the next episode, The Purge is going to be a heart stopper.

The In Darkness We Must Abide serial is a series of short serials that combine to form a continual story. The best part is that they are so short that they take only an hour sometimes two to read which in my busy schedule is perfect. Rhiannon Frater also manages to pack them with so much they have the feel of a full-length novel but in a smaller package. Episode 8 The Fallen King is a strong example of a powerful story in a short amount of pages. It is also getting harder and harder to talk about each episode without fear of revealing too much and spoiling it. If you have not started this series I highly recommend picking up the complete Season 1 with episodes 1-5 and jump on the bandwagon.

If you have not read the first season or previous episodes of In Darkness We Must Abide then this review may contain spoilers.

Rhiannon is the master of drawing you in, giving you what your hoping for, and then finding a way to crush you. As the danger approaches and the event we’ve been waiting for draws closer I’ve been all over the place. I want Vanora’s happiness…but at the same time if she had that then the story wouldn’t be nearly as good. So with everything that happens to her I find myself cringing and immediately looking for more.

I’m really anxious to see just how everything comes together and how everyone is going to deal with the oncoming darkness. Armando is as yummy as ever and with his loyalty to Vanora is has a lot of work cut out for him, more than normal. Carlotta makes me nervous with her lively and selfish personality, but I’m more than a little curious to see how she deals with everything coming up. We also get to see some friendly faces that we haven’t seen since Vanora left her home like adorable Miss Robins and Angel.

By the time I was done devouring all of this I was kind of aching for Vanora, that ending!! I’ll anxiously be waiting for the next episode even if it kills me.

What can I say about this installment of In Darkness We Must Abide? Heartbreaking, check. Scary, check. Sexy, check.

Vanora is headed down a dark path and I'm not sure where Rhiannon plans for her to end up. I only hope that, if she does make it, she still has her sanity. I'm not sure I would given everything that she has been through thus far.

The Fallen King says it all and I will stay away from spoilers. Vanora is back in Houston in her family home. But, trouble has found its' way to the Socoli mansion. I will say that I am surprised that I actually didn't hate Carlotta quite as much as I did in the past. While she's probably a psychopath, she does at least seem to truly love Roman. But, don't worry, there are plenty of other crazy vamps to take her place as one of the baddies.

5/5 stars for a great installment. Wishing for the next one soon so I can get this knot out of my stomach (maybe? please...Rhiannon?)

Thank you to the author for providing an e-book through the read-a-long.

I suppose the title could denote two possible scenarios, unfortunately what I feared most became a reality. Once we got beyond the recap of the trek home, the intensity flowed like crimson from a vampire bite. Vanora is finally back in the Socoli mansion, as we knew she would be, and much to her surprise she doesn’t fear her siblings as she once did. She wants to be there for them, save them from the imminent darkness. Her nightmares have become more vivid, her power more prominent. So many changes happening within her. Will she be the light to get them through the darkest days ahead? I have no idea what’s in store for Vanora, but I’m happy to know that Armando has vowed to be at her side, and I’m glad to see Vanora’s resolve weakening when it comes to the sexy, amber-eyed vampire. #TeamArmando! A battle is looming on the horizon and I foresee a great deal of bloodshed in our very near future.

As stated before, I think In Darkness We Must Abide is one of Ms. Frater's most character-driven stories and this episode is a great example of it. We get to see Armando's side of the events at the beginning and it's awesome. I can't describe how much I've grown to adore Armando in this serial. And Vanora...I grow closer and closer to her each episode.

Without giving the plot away, you'll both smile and cry with this episode. An number 9 can't come fast enough.

Simply awesome.

It took a little longer for this episode to pull me in compared to earlier episodes, but once it starts moving, hold on. It has one of the coolest staking scenes I've ever read, period. Once again, Frater manages to pull off an excellent balance of action, plot, and gut-wrenching drama. Vanora's powers are obviously evolving, but to what end? And what of Aeron? I'm almost dreading the next episode (but in a really good way)!
