Dear Author, WTF! One minute I’m making dinner (for one), the next there’s some incessant banging on my door and the next, I’m on the floor with him on top of me, kissing, rubbing, grinding… something happened… something must have happened. I’ve never seen him look like that. I’ve never seen him look at ME like that! And never in a million years did I think he’d be kissing ME! What is going on!
Photo Description: Two shirtless men are writhing on top of one another on a hardwood floor. Personal effects seem scattered around in the men’s anxiousness to be with one another. The guy on the bottom has a massive tattoo spanning his rib cage and the guy on top seems to be in raptures.
This story was written as a part of the M/M Romance Group's "Love Has No Boundaries" event. Group members were asked to write a story prompt inspired by a photo of their choice. Authors of the group selected a photo and prompt that spoke to them and wrote a short story.
Born and raised on planet Earth, LL Bucknor is a reader first, writer second. She's a work in progress.
Not a huge fan of talking about herself, let's leave it at she likes short walks to the nearest comfortable surface, watching television, drinking coffee and figuring out how to work chocolate into some part of her day.
And she likes reading and writing about men loving men.
And she's caught the Sterek bug: you can catch her stuff here. The ex-fan fic writer is not so ex anymore.
Had to peek at this since I didn't remember why this was a DNF. Made it 33% but I didn't really need that long. The side characters are annoyingly sex obsessed and way too invested in Gabriel's sex life. Gabriel isn't really that into Javier but keeps dating him anyway to avoid explaining to his friends why he's not that into him - a terrible reason, and selfish. Javier has a cousin, Mateo, who Gabriel judges negatively immediately based on his tattoos and huge size (huge as in muscles, of course) instead of just realizing that Javier is shy. Given Gabriel's own background, I would have figured he'd cotton onto that pretty quickly. With the warning tag for cheating, it's pretty obvious where this is going and I can't say I particularly care to bother with all the drama that's no doubt to come.
The author goes to great lengths to really create zero chemistry between Gabe and Javier, so that when Mateo makes his move, readers aren't totally alienated. Nita and Lucas feature quite prominently in the initial stages of the story so I was somewhat disappointed to see their role fade away just as the action really ramped up.
I am glad we were given the full development of Javier's reaction to the situation and that lovely twisty hopefully happy HEA maybe....
I've conflicting feelings about this sort of love triangle. Someone's bound to get hurt, someone's ended up cheating or treading upon others' heart. Just like what happened between Gabriel, Javier and Mateo. You just knew right from the start whom Gabe would actually end up hooking up with, which of the Vargas cousins. But still... And so I really hope that, as from the author hint at the last conversation, the jilted Vargas cousin would meet his right partner (a certain cute young thing of Gabe's close circle, no less!).
I didn't so much mind the cheating, but the rest of the story was just kinda...meh?
That said, at the end Javier (the jilted boyfriend) was going to a Passion Party where Lucas (the best friend) would probably be the host/presenter...I think I'd still read that if it were its own story.
Warning cheating involved. But honestly I just loved this little shorty. You felt thru the story Gabriel and Javier just didn't mesh. SO the cheating which I was surprised with, didn't bother me which normally it would turn me off. I loved Lucas. I want his story please.
Ok…I don’t know how to rate this one. I HATE cheating! I absolutely hate it! It’s one thing when the couple is so wrong and the other guy is a horrific ass. At least then I can sort of justify why the cheating would happen or be sort of ok. But this, when the current boyfriend really isn’t a bad guy, well it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth, even if I do like the eventual couple.
Gabriel and Javier have only recently started dating. Gabriel doesn’t have much of a dating history and having someone as attractive as Javier pursue him is beyond flattering. Having only recently dropped a lot of weight Gabriel still struggles to view himself as attractive. While there’s no real incredible spark between them Gabriel’s sure it will develop. After all they get along in so many other ways. But the few times they’ve kissed it’s done nothing for Gabriel. Not like the tingling he gets looking at Javier’s cousin Mateo.
Mateo is the big, quiet, and intense quintessential bad boy tattoos and piercings in full effect. One look at his cousins boyfriend though and it’s all he can do to sit back and watch Javier have what he wants. Still he loves his cousin and doesn’t want to hurt him. But as time goes by it all becomes too much and when Javier heads out of town for work Mateo makes his move.
Again, I HATE CHEATING! I feel it bears repeating. It bugs me so much with this story. I liked Mateo and Gabriel together. Those tattoos and piercings…yummy, yum yum! But my whole body gets all grrrrrr-ish over the whole thing. If this had just been a story about the two of them I would have loved it. Now I struggle to even like it. It’s well written, but honestly I can’t get over the fact that you f*’d over a perfectly nice guy who was really into you with nary a thought. Sure Javier travelled a lot for work but there was no indication he was doing untold. He was just a good guy who got worked over by two people who were supposed to care about him for their own selfish gains.
Ok, rant over. I liked the writing style enough here that I would probably look to try something else by the writer. And frankly would love to read a story about Javier and the possibility of Lucas that was hinted at at the end of the story. Javier deserves his HEA!
Ok so I'm giving this 3 stars because I liked large parts of this story and frankly it's only my own personal dislikes that take this down from a 4 star read from me. I would actually personally rate this 2 stars I disliked the cheating so much.
I like going into books blind so I had to put this book aside for awhile because I had an inordinate amount of information about the story at the time of its release.
I wouldn't call this a "love triangle" per se because Gabriel really has no interest in Javier, the person that he has just begun dating. But he doesn't want to give Javier up either. He should like Javier. He should like Javier a lot. Javier is attractive, kind, established and, most importantly, he is extremely interested in Gabe. Gabe, who has self esteem issues and hasn't been with anyone for years, knows that he should be salivating over Javier but instead he finds himself attracted to someone else.
I liked that Javier wasn't demonized in this book and that there was no easy fix for the damage that was caused/created. I hate when a MC cheats and instead of the author making the MC own up to their behavior they make the person they cheated on an asshole so that the behavior is somehow excusable. 3.5 stars
Ohh.. Lucas! Javier is coming for you. Game on. O.O
I enjoyed this story. I was skeptical if I would this or not, since there was cheating. But it worked really well. Absolutely no chemistry between the original couple, but didn't hate either of them. We have one happy couple, hopefully another will soon follow.
Lucas, is my favorite. Hands down. Don't care if he was a side character. "no fucky-fucky or licky-licky?” Laughed so hard I snorted.
Mateo and Elton were the standouts in this novella for me. First, you can't go wrong when you have a cute, lovable pooch in the mix. I liked the mystery of Mateo. The way Mateo revealed his intentions was hot! Loved the "eeeerrrrhhh, wait a second, rewind" twist towards the end. That was funny.
Oh I really loved him with Mateo better than with Javier. I was hoping from the beginning he would pick Mateo. But I seriously want to know what happens when Javier goes to the passion party and meets Lucas.
I knock this is a kinda sorta cheating thing but I LOVED this! I think it hasn't rated higher stars because so many people have the cheating thing problem. Again, I will say, IT'S FICTION PEOPLE! So, if you want to read an, "Oh it's so good," hot, love story, don't pass this one up.
Gabriel's been dating Javier, they don't see each other all that often, since work keeps Javier on the road a lot, and honestly Gabriel isn't really feeling it. Javier lives with his cousin Mateo, now Mateo makes Gabriel's tummy do flip flops.... Oh and there is the cutest little pup named Elton. Brownie points for the fluffster! :))
I've read this story before, but it's just so sexy I couldn't resist reading it again. As it says in the warning, it does contain cheating, but if we're honest, it's pretty obvious from the very beginning where this story is going, plus the characters are genuinely remorseful for their actions and have to deal with the consequences. In other words, it's very realistic, and the steamy romance between Mateo and Gabriel is just yummy. Sweet and sexy is this story in a nutshell. I really want the author to get Lucas and Javier's story written, because I'm sure that's going to be a story to behold!
I'm typically not a fan of cheating in stories I read (I can only think of like 3 or 4 books where it really worked for me) but this kinda-sorta gets to the point where I am OK with the cheating, mostly since yeah, I could really see that Mateo was such a better match for Gabriel than Javier. And now that I see that Javier will get his own HEA, I don't feel nearly as bad haha. I really enjoyed your characters, and the build up to that super-hot gif for the prompt. Thank you for a great story!
Very cute short story. Gabe and Mateo were scorching hot together and I have fun reading about them. Hopefully the hint of a second book comes to reality sometime. I would really like to see what happens there.
I didn't mind the cheating. Don't know what that says about me as a reader, but oh well... I was routing for Mateo from the beginning. I was disappointed with the ending though, it seemed rushed. I'd have liked a bit more for the ending, but all in all a very nice and sexy tale!
2.5 Stars There's a cheating warning in this story so that part was not unexpected. I just found the set up hard to believe. Mateo has recently lost some weight and is getting back into the dating scene with the encouragement of his very pushy female friend ( a standard in an M/M book now). He goes out on several dates with Javier but feels absolutely zero attraction. There's no sexual chemistry and when he kisses him he again feels nothing. Yet he continues to date him. This is very illogical and doesn't fit the behavior pattern of men and dates. Without chemistry men bail a lot quicker than women and they certainly wouldn't be going on date #7 or whatever number this gets to. Because of this, the triangle set up between Mateo, Javier and Matteo's roommate Gabriel made little sense. If you're going to write a good triangle story your hero needs to have some kind of conflicted feelings of attraction for the two men. Now there could have been another conflict in the story since Javier and Matteo are cousins, but since we never get Matteo's point of view that issue wasn't explored.
My main issue with this though was the actual writing. The word that comes to mind is awkward especially in the writing for the sex scenes. I'm not going to get into it too much though as this is a free story for the LHNB program which showcases both amateur and professional writers. This had some good ideas that just needed some more work.
Usually not a fan of stories that involve cheating but this story really didn't have a cheating feel to it as it unfolds. Yes feeling are hurt and it will take time to heal but it saved two ill suited people from sticking together just because it was easy. Loved the build up. And I would love to read about Javier getting involved with a certain Passion Party host. That would make an awesome follow up. And poor Nita needs her some lovin too.
I know that a lot of people have issues with cheating, and if you're one of them, this book isn't for you. I don't mind cheating in books so it doesn't bother me here. Anyway, I hardly even see it as ”cheating” since Gabriel has only been on a few dates with Javier, and I didn't feel a connection between them. When Javier's cousin Mateo makes his move on Gabriel, that's when sparks starts to fly!
Damn this story was unexpected xD I was at first wondering whether Javier or Gabriel were the one on the bottom from the pic but then i found out it was Mateo and Gabriel xD It was a nice surprise~ And i am very much interested in reading about Javier and Lucas -,,- Pretty please~ *puppy eyes* Hahahah thank you!
I enjoyed this story, the characters and the romance. I felt bad for Javier in the end, but I was rooting for Mateo and Gabriel. Nice interpretation of the photo and the story letter. Thank you LL Bucknor for donating your story, your time and your talent.
