I received a free copy of this book for an honest review.

LOVED,LOVED,LOVED!!! This is an awesome read. Katherine is a young, very obese girl who has even outgrown the large women's store. But on her 16th birthday everything changes with a wish.

Katherine is such a powerful character. I love how we see the world from her point of view. We really feel for her and see how it is to be her. And I loved her best friend Sarah who is chubby but not as obese as Kathy. She is so supportive and everything a best friend should be. I hope that we get to see more of her. Her mother is bitter and not supportive or forthcoming with answers to her only daughter. Its a relationship that is difficult to understand and you can see why her daughter has issues.

This book pulls you in from the very beginning. Its very well written and really hard to put down. I hated to find that I had come to the end. I love the intriguing mystery of what is really going on with Katherine, and who she really is. Loved this one and can't wait to continue this series.

Kevin Richey, Mr. Zombie Fairy Tales comes forth with his new inspiration series "The Unloved Ones" only this time we get the monthly prequels before the novel.

Katherine is fat, huge and looked down upon by everyone at school. Her only friend can fit it clothes that aren't cut out from a tent and still think she's fat. After a trip to the mall with sad news, Sarah (Katherine's only friend) gives her a birthday cupcake. With a forcing wish, you can only guess what Katherine wished for.

But getting thinner overnight has its down falls and its unanswered whys? and hows? A great read now on to the next prequel, Kevin Richey is doing it again get your hands on a copy.

This is an okay read. It is a quick read - of course it is a prequel. We met Katherine in the first prequel (there is going to be 6) of the unloved ones.

Katherine is overweight and unhappy with herself. Her best friend doesn't seem to notice this either. Her mother isn't much help with her feelings either - mother is a bit self-involved. Katherine makes a wish to be thin and thats when things start to get freaky. Will she be happy with the new her? What will her best friend and mom think? What does this mean for Katherine and what she really is....

Such a great prequel!!! The story kept me on edge the whole way through. Writing was flowing and easy to understand. The plot was engaging and I totally loved the suspense. The characters, on the other hand, could have been better with a little more background story. Again, it is a prequel, so I guess some details have been left out.

Interesting, but a bit too short for me to form a proper opinion. I'm hoping that the series is as good as the prequel!

interesting prequel. I'm not sure I'll continue the series since I think Kathy/Katherine's unstable mood swings and uncontrollable rage will irritate me.

Unpretty, we've all felt like that before. Either with weight, like our main gal, or with some other natural flaw, like mine. My flaw is acne, which is why some days I don't feel pretty (even though my boyfriend reminds me every day that I am). A couple years ago I got hit by the acne fairy and have been trying to find a cure ever since (so far extra virgin olive oil has done the trick, though it's still a WIP haha). So I feel for our main gal, Katherine.

She's overweight and she has a problem with over eating. She doesn't know why she does it, it's just a habit she fell into. Most of the time it happens in the middle of the night, when she can just eat and eat. Mr. Richey did an amazing job at describing this problem of hers, it felt completely real. That scene was absolutely disturbing to me (sorry) as I don't get how someone can do this to themselves. So this aspect was definitely compelling to me.

On Katherine’s birthday she makes a wish and surprise, her wish becomes true. Yeah, I'm sure we all wished that our birthday wishes have become true. She begins to lose weight and fast. In a matter of days she loses over a 100 pounds and there are a couple of hints later in the book to what's going on with her. Once I got to the end, I was even more intrigued than I already was. I can't wait to get more of Katherine’s story as this is a prequel.

Overall I was hooked from the very first page. I've got so much sympathy for her and I know that's what the author was going for, so bravo Mr. Richey. Well done. The storyline will grip you and the details will hold you in place till you reach the ending. And once you get to the ending you'll wish there was more. I can't wait to read the rest of the series, four bats for this one.

Zombie Fairy Tales is in my top 3 favourite books EVER! So I have been waiting for Kevin Richey’s news series the unloved ones desperately since it was first announced, and I wasn't disappointed.

Before the release of his first full length novel he is doing a set of prequels one for each of the vampire siblings (I can't wait for the twins turn, don’t know why I’ve just got a good feeling about them). And the first we meet is a very unhappy overweight Katherine. She isn't just a little chubby she is obese and its got to the point where she can’t even find any plus size clothing to fit her. Until on her 16th birthday her wish to be thin comes true!

Sounds perfect right, I mean can you imagine just after a week you've slimed down and toned up to become some kind of supermodel. Well she did have a few worries to go along with it. Not to mention her rather odd relationship with her selfish mother. She made me so mad, she acted the spoiled child while Katherine had to take a deep breath and deal with her outburst.

I felt so bad for Katherine from the start to the end of this book. She just wanted to be normal and feel comfortable in her everyday life but guess that's not going to happen!

Also how Kevin knows so well how awkward and mislabel it can be to go into clothing stores as a self-conscious teenage girl I will never know! Some of the things that Katherine was thinking and feeling made my stomach twist because I'd felt that and I guess most girls have felt it too. So fat and sad been around all these tiny clothes you know are never going to fit into.

There is really a lot going on in such a short story and I enjoyed it very, very much. I'm so ready to meet the next unloved one, I can't wait!

Katherine starts as an unhappy overweight teen weighing almost 300 pounds. Her friend Sarah is excited to go out to the beach along with other teens from their year but Katherine dreads it. After a tearful breakdown Sarah takes her home from the mall and gives her a cupcake to wish her happy birthday. Katherine blows out the candle and wishes to be thin. This is when the real drama starts.

The world is different when you're thinner and Katherine learns both the good and the bad sides of her new look. Including doctor's appointments and a mood swinging mom. Katherine eventually realizes though that something is going on beyond just medical miracles and wishes. Something she just might not like.

I loved this novellette, a short read it doesn't shy away from the issues facing overweight teens or skimp on great writing. When I purchased it on Amazon I was confident I would get my money's worth on this ebook and I was not disappointed. Kevin had also written a previous horror series and he continues to draw in readers with captivating stories and great writing. My one gripe though is a disconnect with the storyline. Katherine wishes to be thin yet when supernatural elements come into play, they clearly have nothing to do with the wish. Especially when paternity becomes an issue. So why then did the wish start all of her changes? That was never answered and left a big hole in the story for me. I do highly recommend this book though and my storyline issue is the only reason this book doesn't get five stars. Kevin Richey is still a horror short story writing genius everyone should check out. I'm glad I read this book.

This was a good short story which introduces one of the characters that will be featured in the Unloved Ones books.

In this prequel we meet Katherine, aka: Kathy, who is unhappy with herself and her body. She is extremely overweight, at around 270 pounds in the first chapter. Katherine makes a birthday wish that she can become thin and he wish comes true...along with other things that happen to her. And being thin is not all its cracked up to be.

I like Katherine. I feel bad for her because she is so unhappy about her weight. Just her whole outlook on life it so sad. As she becomes thin she is still herself, the outside of her changes but her personality doesn't. When she becomes thin, she does want to show off her new body. I don't blame her for that because who wouldn't want to show off if you'd been fat your whole life? Katherine also finds out things about her past and her mother's past but she takes it in stride.

The ending was a cliffhanger and so far, just based on this prequel alone, I can't wait for the actual series.

This book is about a girl named Katherine Blythe. She has a best friend named Sarah that is the picture perfect cookie cutter girl. She has no worries and life seems to have been really good to her. She fits in all the right clothes and is overall adorably cute.

Katherine is the complete opposite. She is overweight. She is unhappy with her body and she isn't happy with herself. She struggles with her inability to ignore her desires to eat and eat when she knows she shouldn't.

On her birthday she makes a wish that changes everything. What would you do if you had the ability without knowing to make a wish that could change your entire life? Would you make such a wish? She made such a wish and then she had to learn to accept the wish that she made and the results of that wish.

The end of the book completely threw me. It was a "Did I really read that? Kind of ending. Overall this book is worth the read and I look forward to reading more in the series.

Characters
I liked Kathy, she was really genuine and smart. Though in the beginning she was a really troubled teen being so overweight she was still a good friend. Susan is a typical insecure girl, who probably hangs out with Kathy because she is so overweight. All the characters were portrayed in a very genuine way.

Plot
As it was a novella, it was extremely short and I felt like plot development was lacking majorly. It feels more like the backbone of the story rather than the actual story.

Ending
It made me want to find out more, I really hope the next books has answers! It did not leave off on a cliff hanger and we do find out why those things happened the Kathy.

Writing
The writing was addictive and I just wanted to keep reading on and on. It is definitely not the strongest writing by any means but it wasn't bad by an y means.

WOW. Just wow. Kevin Richey offers us a powerful insight from a first person perspective of the main character, Katherine who is struggling with her weight. The very first sentence grabbed my attention, and I couldn't stop reading.
You immediately empathize with Kathy and her plight of being the 'fat' girl as she returns a dress that no longer fits. Her binge the night after nearly had me in tears...her emotions ring out on the page. We follow her as she makes a wish and then discovers it has come true, much to the horror of those around her.
Of course, when she realizes she looks like a vampire, I frantically turned the page and realized that was the end of the book! Gaah!
Go and pick up this short but sweet book. Right now. Read it. Love it. And then, go and buy the next one.

Awesome - I loved the fairy tales series, and was very excited when I heard about these 3 prequels and this first one did not disappoint! Brilliant, clever, and sassy, these stories are modern twists on old tales - another winner of a series for Kevin Richey, who is now one of my favourite authors of dark fiction.

A compelling start. I really like how this looks at a common social stigma in modern day society (that of being fat or thin and how it relates to popularity). I'm definitely interested in reading the full book.
