During the highly improbable zombie uprising of 2013, the fearless American bulldog Riley quickly discovered that it was up to her to keep the pack safe. Together with Yorkshire terrier Ben-Ben and former archenemy Patches the cat, Riley struggles to keep the zombies at bay while helping her favorite human, Jessie, as they travel cross-country, dodging pepper paint balls and taser blasts from the evil, misogynistic Icely and his band of thugs. Now this motley mishmash of mammals are running for their lives. The wicked Icely has picked up their scent and is now chasing them across the badlands of Colorado in hopes of seeking revenge—a painful one at that—on the dog that tried to kill him, as well as on the "bitches" who got away. Seen through the eyes of a random narrator and Riley, we have to will Icely and his men chase them down and zap them into oblivion, or will the zombies finally win and get the brains they desperately crave?
Riley, an American Bulldog, and her pack, consisting of Ben Ben, the Yorkie, Patches, the cat, and the two humans, Jessie and her baby brother, struggle to find safe haven from the zombies.
A huge surprise in the last book provided the pack with a secret weapon. I was skeptical about it at first, then rolled with the idea. But even that might not be enough as Icely is dogging their trail. He’s such a sick twist. Made me hate like the Governor did in The Walking Dead. I longed for him to die, horribly. So the race is on and there’s no guarantees who will still be standing once the dust settles.
Things are really getting dicey in this third book and I’m worried about the pack. I’ve become quite fond of these character’s and that attachment sure kept things edgy.
This is the most intense yet in the series and I can hardly wait to see how events unfold in the next book.
Sean continues to rise to the challenge of being the voice for all of these characters. Nice to hear him again.
Thanks so much to Tantor Audio and the author for the complimentary copy.
OMG can you get rid of Jess already??? She is the WORST?? How can a character get dumber as the books progress?? I want the animals to toss her to the zombies at this point. Ughhhh
Not as good as the first. Second installment on library hold, but I may cancel that.
The different points of view were not nearly as fun as everything from Riley's POV. (The American Bulldog protagonist.) First person narration has it's challenges, and one is how to tell the parts of the story that happen outside of the narrator's experience or view. Mark Tufo gives up and just starts telling it from everyone's point of view. Not a fan.
Also, the human teen is too dumb to live. She's only alive because her three pets have saved her life multiple times. Her fight-or-flight reflex seems to be missing. The cat solves every problem first (which is actually funny to me), and now the stupid bacon obsessed terrier is getting to the correct conclusion before the human. I need a secondary character who I actually WANT to survive. She hasn't seemed to learn anything from her experiences, but instead has grown more stupid. At the end of this installment, the zombies seem smarter than her.
I've officially talked myself out of continuing this series.
The Book Of Riley - A Zombie Tale is split between 5 volumes on audible:
The Book Of Riley 1: 2hrs 58mins The Book Of Riley 2: 2hrs 46mins The Book Of Riley 3: 2hrs 41mins The Book Of Riley 4: 3hrs 21mins The Book Of Riley 5: 2hrs 41mins
The series describes the journey from the start of the zombie apocalypse to the eventual reunification with the Talbot clan in Maine. Jess and her baby brother Zach travel with Riley, Ben Ben and Patches to find Justin Talbot who Jess dated for a couple years as she believes him to still be alive due to his dad's survivalist ideals.
It isn't an easy journey and they run into some truely despicable people and also some very kind ones. I loved the perspective from the animals and tbh, if I didn't already know from the main story Zach survived it would have been much more difficult reading about the baby's multiple close calls.
This is a great side story to the main Zombie Fallout series and a reprieve from the dark current situation.
In the third installment of what has quickly become my new favorite little series to binge read, the pack is on the road away from the crazy warlord of Las Vegas. But Icely is in hot pursuit.
If you’ve read the series to number three, this episode won’t disappoint. The kind stranger, Koala, gives the pack hope that of course inevitably comes into conflict with the marauders Icely is leading to track them down. Without spoiling anything, the pack’s stand against zombies and men is completely worth the price of admission.
In true Walking Dead fashion, episode three ends in a cliffhanger. And, of course, I’ve got episode four downloading even as I type this.
I can’t believe how much I love this series so far! I love how the author weaves in the animals with the humans seamlessly. Anthropomorphizing the animals to a point but not to the degree it becomes ridiculous, I find it’s perfectly balanced between the two. Plus it’s one of those rare occurrences where I can’t wait to get back into a series… I am notoriously bad at starting series and not finishing them. So for me that’s pretty high praise! Anyway, looking forward to reading 4 and 5 instalments of the Book of Riley.
Mr Tufo gives very detailed gross descriptions of his zombies, COOL. But not while laying bed in a dark apartment in NYC during a virus outbreak its like I'm looking for nightmares 😂.
Unfortunately I have no Riley, BenBen or Patches but my neighbors have pets so if they go down I'm adopting Gracie the pitbul, Chloe the cat like dog and Rockie the small but mighty sheep dog lol. I think one neighbor has a cat we'll see if she gets along with a new pack.
I enjoyed this story as much as the first 2 Books in the series., Very unique, as expected when Tufo weaves a tale. It is unlike any Zombie series I have ever read. Interesting, well developed character portrayal . I am continuing on to Book 4 in the series.

If I am ever in a Zombie Apocalypse, I want Riley, Patches and Talbott by my side. Entertaining, fun, quick and easy to read, Tufo provides a great story, great humor and just a bit of fun along with a scrap of terror and anxiety. LOVE it. The fact that the Book of Riley 1-5 is on Kindle Unlimited for free is even better...
The human girl is stupid, but the animals seem to keep her dumb butt alive longer than is thought possible. It’s an interesting short story. I do need to find out what happens to Riley though, so reading on. I mean, don’t we watch a horror movie like “kill the humans…but don’t you DARE touch that dog!!” 😂
I have been enjoying this series a lot and it’s fun to have it through the dog’s perspective. Trip/Ben-Ben is cute and Devereaux/Patches is perfect as a cat. (Not a lot of variety in persona’s I see). The one thing that stinks is how astoundingly slow Jessie is. Uff! Gets old pretty quickly.
Great installment. I was sad to see a couple new characters go!! It was nice that they met someone who was good. The use of grenades was hilarious overkill. I loved Koala’s truck driver comment! Small world. Small evil world. I love Riley! What a hero!
The pack is back at it and off to get to Mike and his family. Another great short with continued adventures and our pack meets up with an old friend. On to the next! Makes me sad to think it’s almost over.
I hate cliffhangers but happily have the next book ready to go. This series is told from a dogs pov and their is a dog ring fighting scene and animal death involved as well as misogyny and basic apocalyptic god complex assholidness.
They need help, they find help, they lose help. This stinks. UGH!!!! FYI you don't need a bunch of Zombie action scenes to have an awesome Zombie series. Ahem.
Audiobook Review: The Book of Riley, Part 3 ABR's full <a href="http://audiobookreviewer.com/reviews/... Book of Riley, Part 3 audiobook review can be found at ... Reviewer.I have enjoyed Mark Tufo’s books immensely – he has never disappointed. I was a bit skeptical at first about “seeing” the zombie apocalypse through an American bulldogs eyes, but I should have known that Tufo does NOT disappoint (I’m sure the word is NOT in his vocabulary!).This is part 3 in a series of novellas. Jess and Zack are humans struggling to reach Mike Talbott’s family (see Zombie Fallout Series to meet this fun and adventuresome family). Continuing her travels Jess, with the help of Riley, Patches (the cat) and BenBen (a Yorkshire Terrier pup), she has to make sure her less than 2 year old brother makes it there alive. In this part, they break free from the evil villain, Icely, and takes one of his brides to freedom. Along the way this strange pack encounters zombies and decent folks who try to help them. No one is really prepared to battle Icely and his thugs who are hunting them down. In Icely’s mind, no one gets away especially a “bitch.”Of course, Tufo wouldn’t be Tufo if he didn’t wring emotions out of his readers – you will laugh (and find yourself craving bacon), cheer, gasp, and cry all in sitting. He weaves his magic so that you become entrenched with his characters and his plot – there is no escaping his writing style! You will find yourself immersed in this horrifying zombie apocalypse where luck has fled and fighting alongside the pack until the end.Audiobook provided for review by the Author.
