Fear. Dr. Julia Bellows understood fear. Loss had made it as much a part of her as living and breathing. But that didn't mean she needed Dr. Malachi Brockman being an overprotective Galahad. She could take care of herself. Didn't need him interfering in her life—personal or professional.

Dr. Malachi Brockman was determined to keep an eye on the widowed Medical Examiner assigned to his unit in the PAVAD directorate of the FBI. She got under his skin, made him care...too much. Now she'd become a pawn in a deadly game. The Chessmaster's weapon against Malachi. And he'd protect her at all cost...even if that meant becoming the killer's next victim...

Who is Calle Jaye Brookes?

Calle Jaye is fun, playful, ironic, professional and sophisticated. She’s super-educated in the field of fiction and would spend most of her time walking around in “Book World” (or”eBook World”).

Does she have slight control freak tendencies? Yep. Why else would she chose to self-publish?

In her day job she gets to read romance novels. In her night job she gets to write them!

Her favorite color is bold purple. She likes rock like Kid Rock, Shinedown, and Nickelback. Add in a bit of Anastacia and Adelle, too.

She collects rocks. Watches crime dramas. Abhors Lifetime Movies and Titanic (especially Leo…) and refuses to read or write about sparkly teen vampires.

She’s married to a cop she strongly suspects is a vampire. They’ve made vampire babies, too.

They live in Indiana with their vampire relatives and their vampire dogs.

Hunting is book five in the PAVAD: FBI series by Calle Taylor. Dr Malachi Brockman and Medical Examiner Dr Julia Bellows have a love-hate relationship. However, Dr Malachi Brockman and Dr Julia Bellows need to bury the hatched and join forces to find the killer amongst them before more people die. The readers of Hunting will continue to follow Dr Malachi Brockman and Medical Examiner Dr Julia Bellows to discover what happens.

Hunting is a fantastic addition to this excellent series by Calle Taylor. Soon as I started to read Hunting, I engaged with her characters and the plot of this book, and I was unable to put the book down. I love Calle Taylor's portrayal of her characters and the way they intertwine with each other throughout this book. Hunting is well-written and researched by Calle Taylor. I like Calle Taylor's description of the Hunting setting, which allowed me to imagine being part of the book's plot.

The readers of Hunting will learn about children's issues when they become part of the foster system. Also, the readers of Hunting will learn about how grief and guilt can affect how they can move on with their lives after the death of a loved one.

I recommend this book.

It was ok. Took way too long to finish.
I feel like the balance between the investigation itself vs romance is a bit unbalanced so it wasn't up to my expectation.

Hunting (PAVAD: FBI Romantic Suspense, #5) by Calle J. Brookes

This is the fifth book in the PAVAD Series, Calle J. Brookes writing is easy to read and love the story lines and the characters in each book.

Great Romatic Suspense novel. I actually really enjoyed this book more then the others, but they all have been great reads so far.

I have rated Hunting 5 stars, and I will continue to read the rest of this series.

One of the best in the series

What a fast paced, well written thriller. Truly an enthralling novel from the get go. A definite hard to put down and a read straight through novel. With strong character development and an engaging storyline, "Hunting," has proven to be one of the best novels, thus far, in the PAVAD series.

I liked Jules in the previous books, but I didn't really want to read her book. It's dumb but I don't really like reading about heroines/heroes who have lost their wives/husbands/love of their life, etc. I prefer my fiction to have one true love of some sort instead. Not really all that realistic but that's how I roll.

That said, this wasn't a bad read. I was a bit fuzzy on previous details but I enjoyed how Jules and Malachi worked towards uncovering the villain and the romance was sweet if not fraught with loss and sadness. The sex scenes and assault were a bit more explicit than the previous books but not overly graphic or violent compared to some others.

Although we see a bit of the rest of the PAVAD I didn't feel we got the team support that was present in some of the other books. Malachi and Jules were sort of separate from the rest. Al's point of view helped a bit but it wasn't often or enough to include the PAVAD team.

Still the plot was interesting and I do love the PAVAD team. Plus Jules was a total badass with her 3 stars.

Cowardice reluctant love and the chess master

This book was great on the suspense. I enjoyed putting the pieces to puzzle together. I was a little frustrated with Julia and Malachi. Simply because she would constantly push him away and Malachi would keep coming back. But then I recognized it for what it was Julia was cowardice by nature due to previously loss. Malachi was brave and strong because all he ever knew growing up was love. Eventually Julia redeemed herself worthy of Malachi and saved herself. Supporting characters were good and insight into the villain was both interesting and looney tunes. Although I could have done with a little less but I understood that it was for foreshadowing purposes. Requires a little editing.

The author has a predictable sequence to many of her books. The good news is that when you need the emotional tug, her books will provide it. Count on a romance between two people who don't seem to like each other much. That will be followed by a desperate situation throwing them together. The desperation comes due to acts of an extremely malicious person with a streak of vengeance a mile wide.

The recovery in the story reveals the author's ability to grab your emotions and pull them bringing you into the love or angst which is revealed to you at the moment. This is one of those books that hits a particular sweet spot, and hits it dead center.

Be still my heart!

Jules has one hurtful past, I have no clue how she has gotten over her past. Is she ready to start piecing things back together in her life? She almost doesn't have a choice. Ruthie is depending on her!

Mal has been chasing the serial killer for years now. He feels like a failure, what has he missed? Ding Ding Ding! Will he be able to save Jules and Ruthie?

Again, same as the other books....editing was not the best....but the read and story are truly amazing! I love Calle's style of writing!

A GREAT THRILLER AND ROMANCE

An intense drama and turmoil of hatred and revenge. Malachi has a stalker who appears to be some one very close to him. This evil person continues to kill leaving chess piece clues behind so everyone knows there is a game in play. As Malachi's feelings are intensified for a member of his medial team, the relationship strain between himself and Julia heat up. Many surprises before the identity of the true killer is revealed.

I really liked the "Suspense" part of the book and would definitely give it a 4stars. However, the "Romance" part of the story was annoying. While I've liked Julia in previous books, in this one, I found her interactions with Malachi annoying and obnoxious. Based on that I truly would rate the "Romance" part 2stars. Quite honestly, her only redeeming quality up to the last chapter was her adopting Ruthie. Overall, I'm giving this book 3stars

Good storyteller but...

The series started out really well. Brooks can tell a story well. It's morphed into more of a romance than a mystery tho. Someplace around books 2 and 3, the storyline became mostly the damaged heroin and he who must save her. The FBI would have rejected these emotionally damaged female candidates until they'd had significant healing. With each book, the mystery has decreased, and more content to romance.

Spelling mistakes and grammar errors aside, this is a really great series. Somewhere in the middle of Cozy Mystery and Mystery, these are easy reading but engrossing. Each book is a stand alone, but I would suggest reading them in order as there are background stories and characters throughout and reading in order helps to keep up with everyone and everything.

Wow that was intense! Poor Mal and Julia. A little sad Georgia wasn't in it that much. I kinda expected her to be in it more, like Jules was in hers, cuz they are best friends...but it was still really good. Longer review to come.

Wow

This one keeps you guessing who that bad guy is. But you also get to see healing both for Jules & Ruthie. I'm so glad she will be with someone who will care for her. Mal is always Galahad but he has one person in mind at the moment. Can't wait to read more.

Non-stop action

One of the best in the series so far, and I've enjoyed them all. The dynamics between Jules and Malachi runs from utter anger to reluctant passion and more. The suspense is so thick you can cut it with porcelain... Read this book!

Brookes does it again

Another book full of action, suspense, and romance. The plot twists and turns and the multiple points of views keep the reader totally engaged in the story. So good to see Jules and Malachi get the hard fought HEA. I highly recommend!

You will be left guessing who it could be the whole time you are reading. The twist you don’t see coming keeps you guessing. Mal & Jul leave you laughing & yelling out as they burn brightly or when Jul keeps running. You will definitely love this book & the team of men & women. Brilliant as always.

Worth the read!

Still loving this series. Have read abook or two prior but now have decided to read them in order. I'm glad I am. Each book is better than the last. The characters, the danger, the devotion, and the HEA's. Two thumbs up! On to book 6!

Malachi and Julia. I did enjoy this but found that the balance leaned towards the serial murders (but without a lot of detail) and Julia’s not wanting to be involved in a romance. I also fe,t that it could have been better edited. For me, a number of the sentences were not complete.

This one kept me on the edge of my seat. Wasn’t completely sure how it was going to turn out, but it was another satisfying conclusion.
