This was better than I expected. Though not exactly a great romance and it could have used more depth to the romance and story, I still enjoyed reading it. There are not many new NA romances out these days so it's nice to find one I could actually read and like.

I read this book right after reading "Comanche Moon" by Catherine Anderson so maybe I was expecting too much. But I found it hard to like this book. Characterization was almost nonexistent. The plot was weak. Two innocent kids left alone. The bad guys want their farm. The kids, with more attitude than brains, fight the bad guys. Hero rides to the rescue. Good guys win. Hero falls in love with beautiful girl. Isn't this a Saturday morning cartoon or something?
The worst part was that I just didn't care. I never really got to "know" the characters. At one point the heroine throws herself at the hero and promises herself to him and then rides home the next day with hardly a tear. Supposedly, she must sacrifice her feelings to take of her brother and the farm. Not believable.
It was a fast read. It read like the outline of a story that needed fleshed out.
I really wanted to like this book.

This was a lovely story in which the Comanche and the Blackfoot tribes are shown to be honourable and kind. It shows the manipulative, destructive side of the white colonisers of the US and how the Native peoples were used as scapegoats to their misdeeds. I also liked how in the end Shiloh and her brother Luke go to live with the Indians until Luke is ready to take his place as a white man in college and then on the Texas holding that they own. I enjoy stories about the native people of the Americas and this was a nice romance with enough cultural flavour to make it worth reading.

I love Candace Camp. But sometimes the books are too similar to others she has written (i.e. Savage series). I'd recommend it simply because she is a good writer.

Okay, so, wow.
On one hand, it’s an easy read. Fairly short, I finished it in less than a day. It was mildly entertaining (I mean, I finished reading it!). That’s about it for the compliments, actually.
On the other (critical) hand, this book is poorly written. I was getting “middle school fanfiction” vibes the whole time. There were multiple places I highlighted and just wrote, “what?” The writing was not good.
For example, on page 27:
“Hernando had the gallant manners of his Spanish heritage, and his eyes lit up when he smiled.”
And then less than a full page later! Literally 2-3 paragraphs:
“When he smiled, his dark eyes sparkled.”
Constance, girl, you just said that! You don’t need to repeat something you just said on the same page.
The writing is sometimes so unbearable and makes absolutely no sense. Another example - “Shadowhawk’s words didn’t penetrate Shiloh’s consciousness because she was overcome with tender feelings for him”. What?!?! He is speaking to her face and she is so emotionally tender that she goes temporarily deaf?
There was one page where almost EVERY PARAGRAPH ended with the word “meat”. There was no campfire, couldn’t have roasted meat. Then Shiloh is forlorn and eats her dried meat. Then she lays down and thinks about stew with savory meat. Omg. Constance - please. I don’t care this much about the meat.
Other examples of this being like a young girl writing a fanfic:
“With a strangled groan, Shadowhawk pressed his mouth against hers” (198). A strangled groan?! Is he being stabbed on the battlefield or trying to have sex? Come on now.
“His hands moved over her body, his mouth plundered hers” (198). Let’s leave out the pirate language when talking about kissing.
“Tears gathered in her eyes as he gently caressed between her thighs” (199). Honestly I have no words for this one. Just…. why? The crying during sex for no reason reappears on page 207: “Tears were streaming down her face and he kissed them away”. Why does Shiloh keep randomly crying during sex?! Because she is so emotionally tender? Ladies, can anyone relate? I sure couldn’t!!!
Constance’s odd attitude towards sex rears itself yet again on page 209: “Shiloh was allowing a man’s body to conquer her…”. Sex is not being conquered! Maybe this is nit picky but I really did not like this.
On page 233, almost at the end, I wrote “I feel no tension from the conflicts in this book”. It took me a moment to discover why because the plot seems to be okay, there is conflict that makes sense, there are grievances that fall upon Shiloh and her brother. I think, however, since everything always turns out okay for Shiloh and she gets whatever she wants, I just felt 0 tension. The dad character being killed off so early made it so that seemingly tragic event didn’t actually elicit any emotional response from me as the reader. It was a good plot point to drive the story, but it did not serve the purpose of creating tension.
The characters were FLAT and so static it was crazy. Did not connect to any of them. MAYBE Shiloh a tiny little bit but Shadowhawk was like a total nothingburger. Luke could’ve been cut from the story and I probably wouldn’t have noticed. Stale, boring.
Another thing to note - this book is probably about as stereotypical and borderline racist (if not outright) you can get when writing a romance involving a Native American male lead. There was little if no research done into tribespeople, the portrayal of Shadowhawk and his people is like picture perfect stereotype. That was a huge turn off for me! Nothing like Ellen O’Connel’s “Dancing on Coals”, which I did actually enjoy as the characters were well rounded, had conflicts that weren’t immediately resolved, had motivations and desires outside of driving the main plot, and the native characters were not so dramatized that it was offensive.
Oh also, just for fun, I’ll point out that every single Native character who interacted with Shiloh at length can speak English. Shadowhawk, his mom, his sister, they’re all fluent. This is explained in the book but it threw me for a loop at first. There’s a scene where Shadowhawk is like “yes I speak broken English but it’ll take a little for it all to come back to me” and then like two pages later he’s speaking English like it’s been his first language his whole life. Again to compare to Ellen O’Connel’s “Dancing on Coals”, the main female lead actually learned the language of the tribe she was staying with instead of the native characters just magically knowing English. Again this is probably nit picky but it threw me off!
Overall I would NOT recommend this read unless you’re looking for something so bad that it’s mildly entertaining. This book would be great for getting drunk with friends and reading it out loud to make fun of it. Or play a drinking game, take a shot every time a character is reduced to a stereotype (ex Shiloh being ~oh so tender~ woman) or every time the writing makes you cringe! Although maybe I wouldn’t survive that game very long….

Comanche Moon Rising by Constance O'Banyon
KU 260 pgs **** 3/31/21 Shadowhawk & Shiloh
4 stars. This was a much shorter book than I normally like but that didn’t take away the fact that this story was very good. I read it in nearly one sitting because I couldn’t put it down. I’d forgotten how much I love historical romances so I am in a bit of book heaven now finding Ms. O’Banyon’s writings. The flow was great, character building perfect, a little steam and sex which needed to be more and sooner, although the few sex scenes were passionate but not really hot but okay, the chemistry was good but most of the book it wasn’t acted on, the other characters were a big part of the story and I loved them all except for Tyree, I just wanted him dead! Both MC’s had emotional struggles with living the life they were born to and wanting another one but in the end the story all came together with a HEA and the epilogue brought a closure to this stand alone novel. It was very well worth the read and it will be on my to re-read list of books. I plan to move forward with more of this author’s writings until I get my fill of love for historical romance.

Cheesy, yes, and not really "exciting" so to speak since there was little to no risk factor or angst really involved, and the ending was kind of hokey in that the bad guys got their just rewards without any direct confrontations, yada yada,

Sometimes we need just plain "nice". Sometimes we need something cheesy make us smile. Sometimes we need those feelgood moments between Shadowhawk and Shiloh to bring us to a secret paradise.
And so, light though it was, I personally really enjoyed this read and like Constance O'Banyon's writing fine. I've read reviews in which some people say how they can't really get into it, but for myself, I really like it and will be looking into some of her other romances as well.

The heart wants what the heart wants!
I think this is the main theme of this story.
Silverhawk and Shiloh chose responsibility. Their hearts chose each other.
Surge has so much greed. His heart chose hatred, and more greed.
If you look back on how S & S 's love unfolded, along with Charlie and all the other characters whom became like family, they all had a lot of heart. Shiloh was quite beloved for her strength and huge heart.
This is my second book by this Author. Stories are similar. They are enjoyable. There is some violence, but not in depth. There are sex scenes, but they are pretty innocent. More like love scenes.

love it
This is my first time reading this author book and I have to say I love every bit of it and will definitely read more of her books. It had a little bit of everything in this book and the ending and the epilogue was really good. It had little violence, povs, little drama, jealousy, romance, i little steamy it was done in a tasteful way. If you had not read this book give it a try.

Great
Two people from two different worlds try to fight the feelings they have out of fear it would never work because of their differences. When they find away to be together they find peace in their hearts . Loved seeing these two come together. I recommend this book

Although in the beginning Shiloh annoyed me, ShadowHawk, made me keep reading! He was just a brooding, mysterious man. The more you understand him the more you love him. Willing to give up his happiness forever speaks volumes of his commitment. Good Read. And ShadowHawk a great character! ♥

4 stars I enjoyed this old school historical romance. Love me a western. This was my first book by Constance o’banyon.

This books it's that long. About 260 pages. It centers around shiloh, a red haired ranch woman who's father recently died and shadowhawk, the chief of the Comanche tribe. I really liked Shiloh, she was interesting to follow and I liked her backbone, which can be sometimes hard to fine in heroine. Shadowhawk, on the other hand, was kind of a flat character. I couldn't get a full sense on him except that he fell in love with Shiloh right away. The story started of at 4 and progressively got worse. The writing isn't stiller and the dialogue doesn't sound natural.
That being said, the book isn't HORRIBLE. I you want something quick and easy then go for it. If you're looking for a heartaching raunchy romance, skip it.

March 1, 2016Decent story of a Warrior who falls for a white girl. She helped his sister so he is obliged to repay her kindness. The relationship grows from disdain to love. Shiloh, the heroine, is also responsible for her young brother. So as the strory revolves around Shiloh and Shadowhawk it interweaves other family and friends from both cultures.
The love scenes are weak. There is good action based on the stealth of Shadowhawk against Shiloh's enemies.
It is a good book for someone new to the genre of historical romance

Shiloh lives on a ranch with her brother. Her father gets killed early in the book. There is a nearby rancher that wants her land and is willing to do anything to get it. During a very bad storm, Shadowhawk's sister comes to Shiloh's property. Shiloh gives her shelter and then Shadowhawk feels like he owes her. So he joins her fight to keep her land and ends up falling for her against all that they have against them being together.

How many romance covers has Paul Marron done? Has he out-covered Fabio yet?
This book was okay, nothing exceptional.
As another reviewer said, it was underwhelming.
I'm still a big O'Banyon fan and plan on eventually reading other books of hers.
This one just wasn't one of the best in the genre.

Finding love in the most unlikely place.
Great book stayed up longer to read couldn't put it down.The family was.sad about the death of love one's.The girl had a heart of kindness and goodness to give to others:.There is evil man wants there land and willing to anything to get it .Two people falling in love from two different worlds and pain from this.relationship .Well written

First time read 31 March 2011
Update - this was my second reading of Comanche Moon Rising and I enjoyed it as much as the first time. It is a simple story, nothing out of the extraordinary, but it was still an entertaining read.

I loved this book, it is a really sweet story. Shiloh and Shadowhawk, a young Commanche chief and a young woman struggling to save her ranch with her brother from a ruthless neighbour.
Shadowhawk is honorable and loyal. Shiloh is a strong lead heroine.
