This isn't important to mention, but it's funny to me: I've had a bit of a rumbling in my tumtum all week, and I've been able to poo with some frequency, but there was always a feeling that I'm awaiting a much larger "movement." It finally arrived, in two waves, during which s(h)ittings I've read this whole omnibus. 💩

So, the Arrancar Arc continues, showing us some actual Arrancars who matter: Ulquiorra, Yammy, and Grimmjow. We get five other guys as well, but they're technically classified as Gillians, which are the weakest Menos, and therefore the weakest Arrancars. Doesn't really make sense, since it's explicitly stated earlier in this omnibus that all Gillians look the same and lack self-awareness, then Adjuchas are more unique, and Vasto Lordes are generally the most humanoid. But apparently if a Gillian becomes an Arrancar they end up looking like a person anyway, and have thoughts and feelings and speech. So why the distinction?

Bleach is a long manga, over seventy volumes in length. But there are only like five major story arcs. Coming (back) into the manga, intending to finally read the whole thing, I was curious as to how Kubo can stretch the arcs so long. I think with this omnibus I've found the answer: fights take prominence over narrative progress. The last chapters of the previous omnibus introduced the idea of Uryu regaining his power as a Quincy, and introduced Shinji's Visored faction. The last chapter here finally shows Uryu's training, and the last two pages show Ichigo coming to Shinji to learn how to balance Shinigami and Hollow powers. So almost three whole tankobon worth of chapters have passed without progress in those plotlines! But we get inconclusive fights against three Espadas, and five finished fights against Gillian-Arrancars (of varying length), filling up most of the page-count. The fights are cool, so it "works" as the real meat-and-potatoes of the manga. So whatever. Well, kind of. The Espada fights aren't really thorough at all, and mainly serve to set up the idea "Ichigo will have to reconcile with White for a future power-up." The remaining fights here have a weird balance because the two women Shinigami basically one-shot their foes while the three lads all struggle. In fact, the guys (Ikkaku, Toshiro, and Renji) all have to use Bankai, whereas the girls (Rukia, Rangiku) get away with Shikai. So it's funny because all of these Arrancars are Gillian-class, and there's no significance to their "number" relating to strength, so we can't say for certain Shawlong is necessarily stronger than D-Roy. But it's trickier still: Rukia and Ikkaku defeat their foes without needing Gentei Kaijyo. But, even releasing their restraints, Rangiku kills her enemy with just Shikai. So... Shawlong must be the strongest because he could withstand 20% of Toshiro's Bankai, and Toshiro has had Bankai for longer than Renji. D-Roy is the weakest because he dies to Rukia's Shikai, and Rukia isn't mentioned to be Captain-class (though she is noted to be worthy of an officer role). It should be fair to say Ilfort is second-strongest because he at least makes Renji use Bankai. It's a toss-up between Edorad and Nakeem. Edorad is killed by a Captain-level Ikkaku using a new-ish Bankai while still having his power restrained. Nakeem is killed by an Assistant Captain using Shikai after Gentai Kaijyo is approved. Renji seems to believe Ikkaku is strong enough to take over one of the empty Captain chairs, so we can assume he's stronger than Rangiku (never mind that he is a male in a shōnen manga, and therefore more likely to be able to do things of significance...). But perhaps Nakeem was very strong, even without releasing his Zanpakuto? Could Ikkaku have killed him without Bankai or while his power was restricted? We simply do not know. Guess it doesn't matter, anyway....

I believe I mentioned for an earlier volume how unfortunate it is for some of Ichigo's classmates that they get sidelined because they don't have supernatural powers. So it's funnier that Toshiro, Rangiku, Renji, Ikkaku, and Yumichika all show up at Ichigo's school. At least three of those characters are stronger than Ichigo's super-powered classmates (that is, we can assume Toshiro, Renji, and Ikkaku could probably beat Chad; Yumichika and Rangiku could probably both take Orihime as well; everyone can beat Uryu right now because he's depowered).

Somewhat similar to Rukia and Soi Fon, I always thought Hiyori was cute in like a "smol" way. But she's also a notable example of Kubo's artstyle "evolving" to make a lot of characters' eyes close together....

Was Ururu always that strong by the way!?

Slapping my "Nostalgiacore" tag on this volume because it's at least moderately relevant to mention I already owned one of the individual volumes collected here. The one with Ulquiorra, which I want to say is Volume 23 (my oldest manga in my collection are like "double-parked" in a bookshelf, and I don't feel like digging around to confirm).

Back in Karakura Town, Ichigo encounters a new enemy - The Arrancars. Created by Sosuke Aizen, Ichigo arrived on time to save Chad and Orihime from being killed by Yammy and Ulquiorra. With the arrival of familiar faces from the Seireitei (Ikkaku, Rangiku, Yumichika, Renji and Captain Hitsugaya), life in Karakura Town got a little rowdier. Plus - the return of Rukia! Towards the end, a new group of Arrancars lead by Grimmjow create chaos in Karakura Town that leads Ichigo, when he was defeated, to be train by Shinji Harako and his gang of Visoreds.

And so begins a new arc that continues from the previous, I am curious where this is heading but how it is reveal seems to be interesting. Still, its the same formula and now, I realize how much more about a character losing starts to make me understand that in this series, winning is every thing. Although I have no complains on that part, what follows next will pick up its paced on what will happen that will change major characters lives forever.

D-d-dad?
Arrancars seem like proper villains and not just antagonist for a couple volumes.
To be honest I do not understand the power level some of this characters have.
It just keeps going up and up and Ichigo keeps training and training.
Grimmjow is so fing cool, even if he's a villain.
Hueco mundo seems like a cool place for battles but I wanted more of the soul society mixing with the real world.
Poor Orihime :c

Right after the last arc ended we are introduced to a roster of new characters, this is why I love this comic series.

I love the new allies and the Arrancar's who are so unique with their powers and looks, Grimmjow is bae. The storyline seems promising and really exciting. We seem to be going to dig deeper into Ichigo and the hallow living inside of him which was a story point I thought would get explored sooner. Lastly, this volume was so funny for some reason especially with the soul society characters visiting the real world. Hope we get to see Hueco Mundo on the next one.

3.5⭐

After the previous omnibus, this was disappointing. It was still good, and we got a lot of new information and characters. I'm interested in where the plot is going and the further growth of Ichigo. Plus, I love that the Soul Reapers are still a prominent part of the story, but I find it a bit boring when it focuses very heavily on just one (and mostly in the setting of a fight).

I do wish we got more Ichigo and Rukia, but I was happy with their scenes.

My favourite part of Bleach was when the arrancars showed up, and this volume has everything: Ulquiorra’s introduction, Grimmjow’s introduction, Ichigo is about to start his Visored training, we’re laying the groundwork for Ichihime (I mean, there were all ready hints, but here is where it really gets going)—it’s just great.

Return to the human world after saving Rukia. The hallow in Ichigo troubles him and a new student, Shinji, enters the school. Filled with mistrust Ichigo must learn to control his inner demons. The start of Hueco Mondo and secrets revealed of what Aizen may or not be upto.

I always enjoyed Grimmjow in the anime, and that stays the same in the manga. I also really like Kaname Tosen too. I do see why people critique Orihime as a character, but personally I find her relatable and I think she has more nuance than people give Tite Kubo credit for.

Vol. 22: Conquistadores - So here we have it! The beginning of a new story arc! The Arrancars want Ichigo to join them and they have come to persuade him and if persuasion won't work well then ... force it will have to be. Then a team of the soul reapers show up to help Ichigo, Chad and Orhime fight the Arrancars. A major character has been hurt and we haven't seen how bad yet. It's my favourite so I'm hoping they are going to be ok! Great start to the new plot! (5/5)

Vol. 23: iMala Suerte! - Total battle volume! My guy is ok from last volume. They aren't in this one much 'cause they are still recuperating but at least my guy is ok. Anyway, loved this volume! The Arrancars are strong and the battles are awesome. We meet the guy on the cover of this book whose name is Grimm Jow. We get to know all the characters pretty well here as the various battles and confrontations are going on. (4/5)

Vol. 24: Immanent God Blues - Full of surprises! We come to a turning point in the plot as things are semi-settled and heat-up at the same time. An old bad guy makes a reappearance and two of our main characters who haven't really been around for this whole book show up briefly so we can see what surprising things they are up to! And finally, Ichigo ends the volume with a exciting decision and new direction that makes us eager to continue the story! (5/5)

Love this series ! In this volume Ichigo works on controlling his inner Hollow unaware that his friend Orihime is in danger. The Arrancars who are the baddiedin this srcare really creppy! Kubo alwsysmansges to keep the stakes so high in his stories that you really become afraid for the characters.

I loved the action in this book and character development . On to the next volume!

I am running out of good things to say about this manga.

It's like the gift that keeps on giving.

Loved every minute that I get to spend in this world, with these characters and just when you think nothing could top the last battle, the next battle does. The world is so so vast and the story so amazing. Top tier entertainment.
