Demon Vampire

Rate this book
For fifty years, Zack has loved Kyli. Until one fateful day, she was gone. Their romance was everything a romance should be. They met, an attraction kept them together, they fought, they broke up, they longed, they reunited, and in time they married and were able to seek out all the joys life had to offer. Destiny bought them together and fate was cruel enough to tear them apart. Nothing could keep them away from each other. Not pain, distance, time, or blood. Especially when you aren't human. Even still, there is a regret in Zack's heart that remembers what happened on that day. It asks for the feelings Zack wishes he could let go. It offers him all the power in the world, if only to take hold of his soul. For Zack, the past is a fresh, wet, injury that he recalls every night. This is his memory. This is the story of the Demon Vampire.

I enjoy writing about the visceral vampires you remember from the nineties. The romance, the pain, the loss.

Lately I've enjoyed writing fantasy. The type of high magic that isn't just two wizards casting spells to try to kill each other. No, that's not enough. I say that when two wizards fight, they split mountains apart when not throwing meteors and opening gouts of fire from the elemental planes. That is what spellcasters do.

***Please Note***
This is an old ARC edition of the book. Please post your reviews to the correct edition of the book.
***Thank you***

Demon Vampire is a story about two people that find themselves at opposite ends of life when they meet. One is naive and the other is seemingly in the know. This book marries an in depth description of each character as they come along and in time, delivers a powerful narrative that binds the entire cast in a love story that is both captivating and tragic.

The book jumps between two perspectives. The first, Zack Giver, a young guy with no clue about what he wants to be in life. And the second, Demetrious Del Marin, a world famous musician. Their lives are connected in many ways. And they share a meeting that will forever alter Zack's understanding of what it means to be human.

This book can be slow at times. It delves into heavy description and paints every scene thoroughly before moving on. This can be to a fault for some readers that enjoy fast paced, low descriptive storyline. But what makes this book shine is how it all comes together. If you are able to think of this book as an introduction to the characters and plot lines within, it will grant you a satisfying climax that will put you into a wonderful yearning for the next book, Bloodlines.

I hope this review helps as many readers as it can. I know this book isn't for the lighthearted, passive reader. And I don't want to mislead anyone picking it up that might think so. This is no Twilight. The characters don't brood over their choices for chapters, or even books. They make mistakes and live with them. They can be rash, bold, and ultimately powerful and very moving. Although I am not one to compare myself to other authors directly, I believe that if you enjoy a story the builds on the experiences of the cast, like what Anne Rice did with The Vampire Chronicles, then you should enjoy the progression of The Redgold Series and its introduction, Demon Vampire.

Sincerely,

Virgil Allen Moore

I absolutely loved this book! The flow of the book has changed dramatically from the last version. It reads so well now it's almost like a paranormal romance thriller. I just got this book yesterday and read it in one sitting! Loved it!

If you are a vampire fan girl, I recommend this is the book for you. The Demon Vampire in it is nothing like anything other excuse for a vampire you have ever read. He is handsome, tall, and outright insanely powerful. The characters are so well done that I found myself crying for the main demon vampire when I read what was actually happening in the prologue. No spoilers, but trust me, you will enjoy all the subtle foreshadowing this book has to offer.

***Disclaimer: I was given this book by the author in exchange for an honest review of his work. I have also read the previous versions of this book, and I can say by far this is the best yet. He has actually taken all of his reviews to heart and changed what needed to be fixed in the story. I have never seen anyone else do that before. I recommend this book for anyone that loves Trueblood, but misses the old Anne Rice vampires.***

I found this to be a very well written different approach to the vampire genre. I enjoyed this book and the characters. I felt the author took time and developed them so we could become well invested in them. The book flowed smoothly and I was able to read it in one sitting. I am glad this book will be continued as I really enjoyed the characters and would like to see where he goes with them from here. I would highly recommend this book to my friends who read in the vampire genre, but I would also recommend it to anyone who wanted something a bit different. I was given a link to download this book for free and I must say thank you for that. This is one book I would have bought and may still (hard cover perhaps) to go in my collection. I found this book entertaining to my creature/horror senses as well as for a bit of romance and action. Thank you Virgil Allen Moore for such a wonderful read.

Demon Vampire: Revised Edition (Redgold, #1) by Virgil Allen Moore

Zack Giver meets a beautiful singer at a Goth club. Once he meets her his life changes forever. He learns the truth of what he is, and what his Mother was. As he comes to terms with the reality he also struggles with vivid dreams, dreams so real he is uncertain what they mean. His new friend is there to explain it all to him, no matter how he feels about the truth, he must accept it or his life will be in great danger.

An awesome vampire tale, unlike most I have read. The characters are mysterious, with secrets to unfold. Is anyone really safe with vampires all around?

Young Zack Giver is a less than typical teen, he isn’t as big, funny, athletic, smart or popular as his peers, actually, he doesn’t seem to fit anywhere, often lost in a daze, not picking up on the world around him. Short description off the top of my head? He’s a dork. Even his father seems to not give him any type of respect. So, when Zack ventures out to a popular club, why is the hottest girl in the place paying any attention to him? Who is she? Why is she so strong? Will her wildly reckless attitude bring a world of hurt down on Zack or is she merely his guide into a world filled with nightmare-worthy monsters?

Demetrious Del Marin is an ancient vampire, powerful, fierce and has the experiences of several lifetimes to draw upon. He is also feared by his “peers.” What could he possibly want with Zack? What is their connection? Does Marin know something about him that could change his life forever? Marin hasn't always been such a fearsome creature and his tolerance of Zack’s lack of proper protocol is actually rather "human" when others would have lost their lives behaving as he did.

A good novel is a work of art created by the words of the author that allow our minds to paint the pictures. Author Virgil Moore’s “canvas,” Demon Vampire is a work filled with strong, bold strokes, with decidedly dark and murky tones. His attention to the minutest detail, short of ominous organ music, creates a world that exists in the darkest corners, where even demons and vampires bow to those with the most power and often the least remains of humanity. These vamps are not pretty, they do not sparkle, and they will never be your best friend. I felt like I had to hide in the shadows to keep off their radar, just as I could almost feel the weight of their power when they entered a room.

Demon Vampire isn’t a quick read. It isn’t light and you MUST pay attention to the detail to fully appreciate this world and its characters. If you’ve read any of “the classics,” you’ll understand the intensity of Virgil Moore’s writing style, because although much of what is happening is in the present day, there is an old world flavor to it that fits the plot perfectly. Do I recommend reading this book? Definitely!

I’d like to thank Virgil Moore for allowing me the opportunity to read Demon Vampire

This is my second time reading this book. I was given a review copy of an earlier version by the author, and now this one. This book was great to read. I did have some issues with the first draft, and was amazed that the author actually listened to reviewers of the first draft and changed the book to make it more readable and more enjoyable while keeping the author's voice and story intact.

The story jumps through time, looking at the story of Zach Giver, Del Marin, and a black plated vampire demon remembering these stories. I enjoy Marin's story. I love how it is written, and while the confused vampire who does not want to kill is an overdone theme at this point, Marin's story is nicely done and I want to read more. A book following just Marin would be able to stand on it's own as a very readable story and I look forward to reading more. Having this spread throughout Zach and the black plated demon's stories compliment each and grow together making a vampire novel with very interesting and, in my readings, imaginative ideas withing the vampire genre.

This is just book one. I do not always like series books, especially those where the book is not self contained, but in this case, Demon Vampire is a satisfactory and highly enjoyable read that makes you want to read more. There are still a number of typos, a few synonyms and formatting issues, but those are few and far between. I look forward to the next chapter in these stories and want to know more about all of the characters and how they get from Marin's past story to the demon in the start of this book. I also hope to know more about the subtleties of the book, such as Yugo's story, and how the story moves to the girl against the tree.

There are not many books that I have found in recent years that I have wanted to read twice. While most of my interest in reading the revised edition was the idea that an independent author might actually listen to reviews and try to make a story more readable, I enjoyed the second read-through and want to read more. I believe that Virgil Allen Moore will be an author to watch and I will be particularly excited to see adult, instead of teen, protagonists.

This book was given to me by the author in exchange for a review.

I picked one of the worst times to try to read this book as my work had so many distractions keeping me away from it once I started. I was happy to find it didn't matter where I stopped, that I could pick it up again and quickly catch up again. A huge plus as a working mom of three.

I found myself liking the Marin character more than Zack the main character. Perhaps he was too young for me to like but the old spirit and storyline for Marin intrigued me and I hope we read more about him in the next book...assuming there will be one.

This is an easy read with short chapters and tells a very interesting tale. I loved the morgue scene...I was hooked from that point on.

A great vampire read without the sparkly vampires. This is 100% original vampires, plus some. Grab this book if you are a lover of vampire books.

Well done, Moore!

First of all I would like to thank the author for the ARC copy of this book and the opportunity to read and review it.

This is a vampire novel that harks back to the days before vampires were the object of teenage girls' fantasies. The dark vampire that unapologetically does what he is meant to do.

Zack, a misfit teen is approached one night by a beautiful girl named Kyli. From that moment on, Zack's life is never the same. He finds out that he is a Vampeal- part vampire, part human. From Kyli he takes lessons on what the proper protocol is when one must survive as a vampeal- a creature that pure vampires loath.
I understood the concept the author was trying to convey, however the book was disjointed. One thread bled into another without full closure. The end is a shocker, so no matter what you will want to stick it out to end.

I agree with the author when it comes to vampire novels having evolved into sweet love stories and not portraying them as the monsters they really are. However, vampires have always had sex appeal. Even Dracula has elements of sex and is wrapped around a love story of sorts. I like both types of vampire novels and I do hope that we can see more of the darker side of vampires come back in novels.
This was a nice try on the author's part. The book does need some editing and proofreading. The author shows talent and is off on the right path. I wish him good luck with his future books in the series.

I like vampires. I have read a good amount of their stories and this one was one of yhe better ones. I imagine its hard to put bloodlust into words and be able to create a world that examines actual vampire feelings. This book made me believe in the fragilities of vampire kind, including adding a different slant on the existence of a subspecies. There are things I want to say but they could potentially spoil it. I will say, that I look forward to the next book and I will pay a little more attention to the world around me.

Thanks for the chance to read this!

This was pretty close to the old version of the book. A few things were changed, but it was just about the same book as the original. I'm glad the author decided to make changes based on the reviews from this edition to make the next version.

I seriously couldn't finish this novel. The switching between time periods was very rough and caused a great bit of confusion, along with facts and knowledge that doesn't fit with the older time period in general. The typos are abundant, again making the novel lose any luster that it could have had. I honestly don't understand how any editor would allow such mistakes to pass through.

The story itself had potential, I just think it was poorly brought to paper, as if the author was writing this in short spurts as the ideas came, which isn't the best way to go when you're writing a novel. Overall it just feels like it was very poorly planned out.

*There may be some spoilers in this review, but big ones will be marked*
Actual Rating: 2.5
Favourite Character: Del?

I must first off say that my kindle didn't seem to read the file correctly and I had some trouble getting to my kindle with all formatting in place. I did notice some errors that need editing, but most of the problem was my crappy formatting problems (which once again, was my kindle and not the story!)

I must say I was very excited to read this as I am a vampire fan and love to read the different ways that an Author can portray them. I think the blurb of this book should be changed as none of what happened in the story was the same as the blurb. I assume this was before "one fateful day, Kylie was gone" because this did not happen (which also spoils it for future books) I thought from reading the blurb I was going to get a big story of Zack's life. Also, this did not happen. As you can see from my not below, it states "I hope we get more of Zack's teen years" as a result of this.

When Zack meets Kylie...I was very disappointed. The story was going nowhere and really, it was very boring. Zack was asking the questions all over again and Kylie was just dismissive and abusive with the answers. Also, the author was very repetitive, e.g.:

"What about you? You're a vampeal. You shouldn't be here if it is dangerous." He was concerned about her. It is obvious that he's concerned about her. I've heard writers say "leave something to the reader’s imagination" and I never really understood them until now. And it's not just that passage, it is proven throughout the whole book.

(No spoilers below, just a few are examples of this that I have found.)
["The names' Bill Saunders." The sailor introduced himself. Yes, I’m aware that he introduced himself, as he told Marin his name.

Also, I didn't quite understand why Marin's POV was in there don't hear me wrong, I absolutely loved reading Marin's POV (one reason I continued reading and gave it 3* stars)But I just didn't find any use for it there.

I really think this could have been quite an excellent book with a few necessary changes. I really hope that the changes I think are necessary are introduced into the next review edition and then the final publication.

*I don't like re-reading books, so I think I'll pass for the August edition

And I'm so sorry to Virgil for taking so long to read this and for being patient while I worked through my kindle formatting problems. I hope your writing career goes well!!

With this novel Moore gives a big twist to the age old vampire story. The vampires in this book aren’t afraid to be vampires and do what vampires do. That said, they also don’t run around on massive killing rampages. They also don’t sparkle or risk their immortality over a high school crush. It’s a nice change from the current expectation of the genre.

Moore is a very descriptive writer. He lays everything out before his audience so that you’re never left guessing where something is or what it looks like. His detailed explanations are worked right into the storyline without breaking the story’s flow. Moore also writes with a muted intensity that allows his readers to flow though his work. For the most part, this novel was quite eloquently written. There were, however, times when the writing became somewhat choppy and a little disjointed. I also found that the author tended to rely too much on short sentences. They began to lose their impact after a while as that was all there was in the book.

Moore has developed a vast cast of characters. Many of them are quite well developed. Although extremely different from anyone you’ll ever meet, you do get to know and understand them. Some of the supporting cast is rather cardboard, but they fill their roles quite well anyways.

As a whole this was a unique and interesting read. Moore takes vampires, both old school and new, and melds them together to create this unique story.

Please note that I received this novel free of charge from the author in exchange for an honest review.

I was given an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. (It's my first review, so bear with me!) :)

I liked that the vampires are portrayed a bit differently than how they are in other books. (With the crazy multitude of vampire stories out there, I think it's a feat to be able to think of something out of the box) Of course, similarities are inevitable, but I still consider it a breath of fresh air.

My rating of 3 stars comes from the fact that I liked the ideas that the author came up with, I just didn't find myself completely enjoying the way they were delivered.
-The relationship between the protagonist Zack and his love interest Kyli is explained, but not shown. As a reader I didn't feel like there was a connection between them from their interactions, but I was told there was so I believed it. Hope that makes sense.
-There's a disconnect in the way the story is told. One moment you think that you're going to find out something pivotal to the plot, and the next you're reading about another character that was just introduced for the next few chapters. As soon as you begin to forget what the main story is as you're starting to get involved with the new character's story, you're thrown back to where you left off.
-The ending intrigued me. I want to find out what happens next. Hopefully my confusion will be cleared up when the next books come out.

Thanks again for the copy! I wish you the best on your next books.

This book was very difficult for me to follow. It seemed like one book and then halfway it turned into a whole other book and then went back to the first book after some time. One focused on a character named Zack and the other on Del. The only thing that had any meaning connecting the two is the red tie info we got as a background (another book within the book) story on Del that Zack wore. The Zack story seemed to move at a very slow pace and have no real direction. I enjoyed Del's story a lot. The book ended with no reasoning. I like the idea of this book but it was very choppy to me. I noticed it was part of another book/series? I also think it may make sense if I knew the whole story.

I was offered a copy of this book on my kindle in exchange for an honest review. I really liked the concept of the story. I love the darkness of vampires and really hate that current writers seem to want to stray from that but that was what their appeal has always been dark, sexy, evil and sometimes a hint of their humanity breaking through. I didn't really like the writing in parts it seemed like it was all over the place. Honestly, I enjoyed the few chapters about Marin more than I enjoyed the book overall. Maybe with a little rearranging or extra explanation in parts and editing it might flow better and make more sense.

This was a pretty good book. To me, it seemed the writing was a little choppy but wasn't to bad. It took me a little bit to get into the book, but once I was able to it was a interesting story and I was glad that I kept reading. This book is definitely something everyone who is into paranormal books should read. To me it seemed to have a little of everything, demons, vampires, an something new called a vampeal. I might have to go and pick up the next book so that I can see what happens next.

I received Demon Vampire in exchange for a review. I enjoyed the first half for some reason more than the second half. This story is an easy read & is about a teenaged boy who is becoming a vampire. The story follows Zack and his new girlfriend Kyli who is trying to reveal to Zack what he is becoming. With the help of musical artist Del Marin, they are learning about vampires and certain gifts that some vampires possess.

I'm suppose to give an honest review and to be well honest I'm still trying to decide. I really enjoyed the supernatural side of it the characters and well the story but it was confusing with the two different stories that took me a while to connect, the writing was a little off but well who am i to judge i'm not a writer. I think that reading more from this author is needed for me.
