Okay you really got me going Kayla. I thought you would kill Xuan off. But why the cliff hanger. I could see this as just a book by itself. It was really good and I had no problems with it. It was slow in the beginning but it picked right up which I enjoyed.

When I read a new author, I find that I either really like them - or I find way too many problems. Ms. Cunningham has crafted a well-written book, with realistic characters and storylines. The characters are easy to picture in my mind and elicit strong emotions and likability (or dislike - for a couple of them)
For me, the test of a well-written book is whether or not it calls to me, "Come back. Pick me up. Read some more." I couldn't wait to continue reading to see what would happen next.
Another thing I liked about the story was the fact that Cassie and Xuan fell in love over a period of time. It wasn't one of those, "Boy and girl meet, instantly fall in love, live happily-ever-after" stories. Their love story develops and deepens through the book.
I look forward to Part II.

As an Asian woman, I cannot emphasize enough the power and beauty of "Fated to Love You" by Kayla Cunningham. This book has truly left an indelible mark on me and stands as one of the best cultural books I've had the pleasure of reading. It has earned a well-deserved 5-star rating from me. I started reading it a few days ago on my Kindle because I had heard from a Chinese friend about this book.

First I want to say that "Fated to Love You" is not your typical romance novel, and that's what makes it so extraordinary and amazing. It fearlessly delves into big issues and topics, shedding light on significant societal issues that often go unaddressed in the genre (like lack of representation of biracial couples, multicultural communities, and Asian mixed couples). But the power of this book is so much more than that. If you're seeking a romance wrapped in a neat little bow, I urge you to move on. But if you're open to exploring thought-provoking narratives, illness before the pandemic hit, racism, and other social issues then this book is a must-read. I love the fact that this romance is more that just a rom com. It's actually about something. It means something.

My understanding is that this book is meant to be a series. The first one tackled racism directed at the Asian community before the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019. It provides a raw and eye-opening exploration of the struggles faced by individuals of Asian descent. The author's ability to convey the emotional impact of these experiences is commendable, drawing attention to the importance of addressing racism in our society and I am excited to see what happens in book 2 during the pandemic years.

WARNING: The main couple comprises a white American female and a Chinese male, a coupling that sparks discussions and elicits diverse reactions. If you don't like seeing that than don't read this. Biracial couples: Black and whites and Hispanics and whites and becoming more and more common and accepted (which is awesome). But there are hardly any novels today that focus on a white female and an Asian male.

Furthermore, this book talks about illness and cancer. There is a timeline. The first part shows the couple and how they meet. It's a buildup with action. Then does a time jump to 3 years and they are official and engaged. Then the real story begins because the character Xuan has cancer.

While some may find this book challenging because it's not just your typical romance, it is precisely this courage to portray unconventional relationships that makes the book shine and talk about racism and somethings that "we" as in the Asian community, face. This book forces people to confront our biases and preconceived notions, leading to meaningful conversations about love, acceptance, and cultural diversity.

"Fated to Love You" is a testament to the author's boldness and their dedication to representing underrepresented voices. It showcases the resilience and strength of characters navigating through adversity while unraveling a heartwarming love story.

I cannot recommend this book enough to those who are willing to embrace a romance that transcends boundaries and tackles social issues head-on. Its thought-provoking narrative, powerful storytelling, and cultural significance make it an essential addition to any reader's collection.

So, if you're ready to dive into a romance that goes beyond the conventional, then read it. Let's embrace the complexity of love and ignite conversations that matter through books!

A heartbreaking story of two people destined to love each other. But despite the circumstances there remains a sense of hope and optimism. I was not prepared to cry....I totally cried and went through a whole freakin box of tissue!

After dreaming of visiting the Amazon Rainforest ever since she was a little girl, Cassie’s dream has finally become a reality. Newly single, the only thing on her mind is science and completing her research. The furthest thing from her mind is falling in love. But things have a funny way of working out when fate intervenes.

Zhang Xuan has been intrigued by Cassie since high school, but never made it known. Now that they find themselves in the Amazon rainforest together, he finally takes a chance. Despite Cassie’s unwillingness to get involved in a new relationship so soon, she quickly finds herself falling for him.

One tragic incident has Cassie reconsidering her reluctance to open her heart again, and it soon becomes clear that sometimes the stars align to end up with the one you’re fated to love.

I appreciated the note in the beginning regarding language and the use of certain grammar rules in other languages. I am a stickler for grammar, and without this note I likely would have questioned some things throughout the book. So I was thankful to have this information ahead of time and I loved the fact that the author decided to stick to rules and show respect to other cultures. That's awesome.

As for the story itself, the beginning kind of got off to a slow start. And science was never my favorite topic, so I worried that the book would lose my interest with too much focus on it. But as soon as the incident in Columbia took place, I was hooked and couldn’t stop reading. I realized there would be a lot more to the story than just science and the cliche love story.

Cassie is mature for her age, and I love that she didn’t want to rush into any with Xuan because she knew she needed to give herself time - she was looking out for herself. She also had strong ambitions and wasn’t willing to give those up just for the idea of love.

Xuan is sweet, romantic and patient. He doesn’t try to push Cassie to jump into anything. Not only does he respect her goals, he is actually drawn to her more because of them.

Each time that Cassie and Xuan are faced with impossible challenges, they handle it in stride and with grace. While the circumstances are heartbreaking, the way they face these challenges together demonstrates the definition of unconditional love.

This book made my heart ache, and I may have shed a few tears. But I also couldn’t help but feel a sense of hope and optimism. I also felt comfort that knowing whatever the outcome may be, Xuan and Cassie would be okay.

The plot unfolds with a perfect blend of tension, heartache, and joy, making it difficult to put the book down. It is a testament to Cunningham's storytelling skills that she can create such an engaging narrative while also incorporating cultural aspects seamlessly.

I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking a captivating romance that embraces the beauty of diverse cultures. Prepare to be swept away by the enchanting love story and the depth of cultural richness it encompasses.

Incredible book! I couldn't be more impressed. The characters were well written and sympathetic. Cunningham's writing is captivating and drew me in from the start. The characters are believable and had me rooting for them the entire time. There were plenty of twists and Cunningham managed to build tension in the best way possible. This is a masterclass in storytelling.

After I was finished reading this one I found myself pondering the deeper themes and meanings, which in my opinion is a sign of a great writer and a great story. Cunningham doesn't just give a story about two people falling in love-instead she presents and challenges the idea of fate and soulmates. Everything from the setting to the atmosphere was perfectly crafted in this thrill ride.

Overall I would recommend this book to anyone that is a fan of romance or even just great storytelling. I don't always go for romance novels but this one sucked me in quickly. I'll be on the lookout for what Kayla Cunningham comes up with next.

This is more than just another romantic novel, it is packed with knowledge and adventure. The book is well-written and elaborate. I think this masterpiece puts in perspective the cutting of Amazon forests and depicting in detail the consequences of air pollution. The author has seamlessly written of cultural and racism problems nowadays. In the end only the love can save the world, literally. I thank the author for the awesome read and recommend the book to everyone with socially and environmentally conscious mindset.

A sweet, descriptive read

This book started out with such rich description that it immediately pulled me in. I love the characters, Cassie and Xuan. I even love the side characters. I love books that have me ask questions or to feel in this book definitely does that. Without giving anything away it is a book about love through all types of obstacles and fate and soulmates. I recommend this to anyone who wants a descriptive sweet romantic read that explores emotions.

Cassandra Steele is a self-defined nerd. She loves science (she once dissected a cow's eyeball) and she loves to study, and we meet her at the beginning of her study abroad program in 'Medellin, Colombia. I was already in her fan club. Science? Facts? Curious mind? She had me from the beginning. Add to that, an almost beatific sense of justice, to the point of endangering herself and we have ourselves a true heroine. A near fatal accident, which is beautifully written and held me in suspense until the very last, unexpected moment, had me turning the pages. I couldn't stop until the event was resolved. No spoilers hers, so we move on and find her becoming fascinated with a young Chinese scientist named Zhang Xuan, who she vaguely knew back in school but didn't think about very much. She was intent on getting a scholarship, tending to her wounds from a bad breakup with her boyfriend, but now, in Colombia, at a nightclub where everyone is feeling alive and relaxed, she begins to see him in quite a different light.

And right there we have the crux of this engaging novel; how does love bloom? Why is he the one? Where is there love going to take them? All of the answers are in this winding, adventure-ridden tale of what happens when love is able to surmount almost every obstacle? What test of character, of life-long commitment twists and winds its way through this lovely book with a true heroine as she tries against all odds, to give her own life meaning, to find a way through the prejudices of her loved ones, and to grapple with the winds of fate that are fierce and seemingly insurmountable.
I highly recommend this book. In Cassie, or, as her mother calls her when she's annoyed with her, "Cassandra Temperance Steele" we see a young woman of principle, beauty and an uncanny ability to turn tragedy into blessing, crude and obnoxious people into more introspective ones, a truly engaging and important topic for these very fraught times. When I got to the end of the book, which again is written with an urgency and which keeps the reader constantly on their toes, my only thought was, 'When does the next intstallment come out?' A good read.

Not Your Typical Romance Novel – Fated to Love You by Kayla Cunningham

I must admit this is the first time that I have ever read a romance novel, but considering the usual cover of romance novels depicting some muscled, burly man holding a swooning woman in his arms, I would dare to say that this is very much unlike other romance novels. For one thing, both the protagonist (Cassandra) and her love interest (Xuan) are heroes in this story, and it is a story about genuine love rather than some fantasized embellishment of a woman being swept off her feet. It is a story about how love grows and matures with time, not just between the couple but with their families and friends. It is a story about “for better or worse.” So, don’t expect Christian Grey to be seducing the protagonist into overly sensualized sadomasochistic encounters. That is not going to happen in this book. By the way, I love the YouTube video of Gilbert Gottfried reading from FIFTY SHADES OF GREY, but. . .I digress.
The story begins with excitement from page one as Cassandra Steel, our protagonist, is caught in a life-threatening situation as a college student on a class assignment in Columbia. The author then backtracks to the events leading up to that situation and skillfully leads the reader into the book. Immediately, one wants to find out how that initial flash of destiny happened and how Cassandra survived. The book, as the title suggests, is about fate and how things seem to come together for certain events to occur. I’ve heard spiritual guides say that there are no accidents and fate draws people together even for a brief, or a life-long encounter. The concept of fate is contained within almost all cultures around the world, and in this book. From the first life-threatening experience of destiny to the developing story in the first few chapters, genuine love begins to build between Cassandra and Xuan.
This book navigates the interlocking relationships between families, friends, and a former lover leading to the evolving awareness of every character. This is Kayla Cunningham’s first book, and as such, it is easy to read with complex relationships between the various characters. As well, Ms. Cunningham paints her words into a vivid picture that allows the reader’s mind to see the story as it unfolds. This book is to be the first in the Chasing the Comet series. Therefore, this novel leads into the continuing story, and the ever-developing bond created with genuine and respectful love.
In addition to a compelling story, FATED TO LOVE YOU is an education in science as well as different cultures, and it emphasizes the importance of respect for other cultures. Ms. Cunningham has taken meticulous steps to verify that she is getting it right when describing science, medicine, and other cultures. She then weaves cultural differences and varying viewpoints into her writing. As well, she addresses racism, including racism within Cassandra’s own family and the impact it has on the feelings of those involved in the story. This is a book that I enjoyed reading and I look forward to further works by this author.

"Fated to Love You" is a beautiful tale of love and resilience, perfect for fans of "From Scratch." Cassie's journey into the heart of the Amazon Rainforest unfolds as an exploration of her passion for science and healing after a painful heartbreak. When Cassie crosses paths with fellow scientist Xuan in the lab the night before she returns to California, we see their relationship just starting to spark. A whirlwind night cascades into a nightmarish day when the pair are caught up in a horrific natural disaster, but that is just the beginning of the hardships this couple will face. The love story between Cassie and Xuan is filled with heartfelt moments and unexpected turns. Cunningham's writing style is engaging, drawing readers into a narrative that expertly balances tension, heartache, hope, and joy (have tissues handy). The narrative skillfully explores themes of destiny and the human condition, making the story not just compelling but also profoundly moving and relatable.

I love that part of this book is set in Colombia and has some Spanish. The author does a great job at bringing in culture. And I love that part of every sale goes to protecting the rainforest and aids kids in Latin America. This book is a journey worth taking. "Fated to Love You" is not just a romance novel; it's an exploration of the human heart and its capacity for love and resilience. Cunningham invites readers to experience the rollercoaster of emotions that come with falling in love, making mistakes, and ultimately finding one's path to happiness.

As the narrative unfolds, readers are drawn into Cassandra's world, where serendipitous events intertwine with the power of true love. Cunningham deftly crafts a story that reminds us that love often finds its way into our lives in the most unexpected and delightful ways. Through Cassandra's journey, the novel explores themes of self-discovery and the importance of staying true to one's passions and dreams. I liked that. I liked that it wasn't your typical get married and have kids kind of story. The characters are trying to achieve their educational goals and are driven. That was nice to see.

At first I wondered about the racism issue and if it took away from the love story, but then I realized...that that was part of the love story. It's hard to know what its like to face day to day life in a biracial relationship, especially with an Asian - American couple. I heard some terrible stories during the pandemic, and I know that's where this story is headed because the author says that's book 2. The love story takes place during the pandemic. So this is the slow build of their relationship journey and then bam...everything will hit in the next book. I can't wait until it comes out honestly.

If you're looking for a contemporary romance that will tug at your heartstrings and leave you with a renewed sense of hope, "Fated to Love You" is a must-read that will leave you eagerly awaiting Cunningham's next literary endeavor.

The vivid descriptions painted a picturesque backdrop for the characters' journey, from charming small surf town and redwood forest to breathtaking landscapes in Colombia. I felt like I was right there beside them, experiencing the sights, sounds, and sensations that infused each scene with life.

Furthermore, the themes explored in this novel resonated deeply with me. The author has a way with words that transported me into their world, making me feel like a witness to their incredible journey. Their connection is like a wildfire, fierce and unstoppable. The chemistry between them crackles and ignites, leaving me breathless and yearning for more.

What sets this book apart is its embrace of destiny. It weaves a spellbinding tale of how fate weaves its intricate threads, bringing two souls together in a cosmic dance of love. This book is an ode to the power of true love, reminding us of its transformative nature. It made me believe in the remarkable strength of the human heart and the profound impact that a soulmate can have on our lives. The story radiates warmth and tenderness, making it impossible not to fall head over heels for Cassandra and Xuan.

If you're in the mood for a captivating and heartfelt romance, "Fated to Love You" is an absolute must-read. It will whisk you away on a rollercoaster of emotions, leaving you with a lingering smile and a renewed faith in the remarkable power of love. Brace yourself for a journey of destiny and passion that will stay with you long after you've turned the final page.

"Fated to Love You" exceeded all my expectations. Kayla Cunningham's masterful storytelling, unforgettable characters, and poignant themes make this book an absolute gem. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking a heartfelt, immersive, and utterly satisfying reading experience. Prepare to be swept away by the magic of "Fated to Love You" and lose yourself in a world where love conquers all.

I was given a free copy of this book on NetGalley for an honest review. First, I want to say that as an Asian woman, I cannot emphasize enough the power and beauty of "Fated to Love You" by Kayla Cunningham.

Warning: tear jerker! I don't know how this author did it but her book is a one of a kind, literary masterpiece! I first read about it in the Portland Book Reivew section online and decided to give it a try. If you love Ali Hazelwood, Helen Hoang, or Rebecca Yarros, you're going to love this one, with her distinctive writing style and set in the STEM world. The sizzling chemistry between Cassandra Steel and Zhang Xuan and the intense slow burn romance, it is UNPUTDOWNABLE!

United by the aftermath of a devastating mudslide, Cassie and Xuan, both college students, find themselves drawn together in a way that transcends mere coincidence. Instead, their connection appears to be a manifestation of a profound turn of destiny.

I seldom read indie authors that aren't well known, and I certainly don't ever grant books a five-star rating from the indie authors I've read, but "Fated to Love You" came strikingly close to earning that rare distinction. Describing the pure joy this book brought me is not easy. Kayla Cunningham has managed to make me appreciate romance novels in a way I never anticipated, while also making me feel for the struggle between Asians during recent events. I was determined to resist Xuan's charm, yet with Cunningham's narratives, I realized this book is precisely what I've been yearning for. A romance this isn't just a romance...but is about something more. Illness, love despite cultural barriers, racism....it's really a testament to the last few years in America.

Cassie and Xuan's intense attraction is evident from their first meeting. I loved the way the author narrates the evolution of the relationship, the tension is off the charts, the slow burn romance almost gave me instant combustion, their deep emotional connection is everything, and their clever and funny dialogues are in a league of their own. This is definetely a he falls first and he falls harder romance.

Cunningham adeptly captures the inner thoughts of her characters, making them relatable and endearing. The idiosyncrasies of her characters, such as their love for destiny, cats, sparkling details, sci-fi references, and countless other traits, feel remarkably genuine. These elements create a narrative that resonates with a deep sense of understanding, leaving the reader content with the conclusion.

In her writing, Cunningham adeptly addresses societal judgments faced by the Asian race, and biracial couples, particularly those within the context of romantic tales. She emphasizes that personal choices, like those involving religion and cultural differences. Regardless of one's typical reading preferences, Kayla Cunningham emerges as a remarkable figure—a brilliant author in the realm of romance. "Fated to Love You" offers a reading experience that is truly one-of-a-kind. I can't wait for the follow up book 2 in 2024.

Readers who appreciate the works of Nicholas Sparks and found resonance in John Green's 'The Fault in Our Stars,' should read this. TRIGGER WARNING: THIS ROMANCE DOES INVOLVE CANCER....

Addictive, captivating and so real, this is my new favorite book of this author that gave all the feelings, perfect for fans of
Slow burn
STEM Romance
Boy falls first
Witty banter

Okay, so anyone that likes Colleen Hoover or Nicholas Sparks or Korean drama should pick up this book. Kayla Cunningham is a new indie author, and if you're looking for a story that isn't just about love and sex, then this is the one. "Fated to Love You" is a captivating and emotionally charged novel that defies traditional romance tropes, delivering a unique and thought-provoking story. With its well-developed characters, bold themes, and powerful messages, it deserves a resounding five-star rating. Wait until you need a good cry to pick this one up. I can't wait for book 2! This was set up awesome. BUT it does have cancer and it does fight against racism and stereotypes, so if that's a trigger for you, then pick up something else like an Ali Hazelwood book.

The novel follows the love story of Cassie and Xuan, an American and Chinese couple whose relationship faces the challenges of cancer and instances of racism. Kayla Cunningham's skillful storytelling delves into the complexities of their love, navigating the hardships and triumphs that come with such profound circumstances.

One of the greatest strengths of "Fated to Love You" is its portrayal of real-life struggles and social issues. The novel fearlessly confronts the harsh realities of cancer and the impact of racism on relationships. It prompts readers to reflect on the power of love and the importance of standing strong in the face of adversity.

The character development in "Fated to Love You" is exceptional. Cassie and Xuan are multi-dimensional and relatable protagonists, each grappling with their own fears, dreams, and vulnerabilities. Their love story is not a cookie-cutter romance but a deeply authentic and heartfelt portrayal of two individuals finding solace and strength in each other.

Kayla Cunningham's writing style is evocative and powerful, conveying the depth of emotions and the complexities of the characters' experiences. The novel's prose is beautifully crafted, adding an emotional layer to the narrative. I think this author could be the next big hit, but people have to be ready for the ugly and the beautiful.

Moreover, "Fated to Love You" is a novel that goes beyond romance. It serves as a form of activism, shedding light on important social issues and challenging societal norms. The novel's exploration of cancer and racism sparks conversations and raises awareness, making it a poignant and impactful read.

In conclusion, "Fated to Love You" is a beautifully written and thought-provoking novel that defies convention and stands out as a unique and powerful work of fiction. Kayla Cunningham's compelling storytelling, well-drawn characters, and exploration of bold themes make it a standout read. For its fearless approach to addressing real-life struggles and its celebration of love's resilience, "Fated to Love You" undoubtedly deserves a resounding five-star rating. In my opinion, everyone should give this a chance if you like romance that's more than just a romance. It's talk of comets and fate are really beautiful and it's just well written. I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT RELEASE!!!

Netgalley gave me a free copy of this book "Fated to Love You," the first installment of the "Chasing the Comet" series by Kayla Cunningham, and boy am I glad it did!!!

Cassandra Steel, a passionate young scientist, finds herself in the midst of a life-altering study abroad program in the lush expanse of the Amazon Rainforest. Still reeling from a painful breakup, Cassie's heart is a fortress she's determined to keep locked. However, her resolve is put to the test when she crosses paths with Zhang Xuan, a fellow scientist whose charisma and mysterious charm manage to break down her defenses. As their love blossoms amidst the breathtaking beauty of the rainforest, they're faced with a cruel twist of fate – the devastating diagnosis of cancer.

The exploration of fate and chance is a central theme that adds depth to the story. The characters' journey is laced with moments that feel both serendipitous and inevitable, painting a picture of destiny at work. The emotional landscape of the novel is rich, carrying the weight of past heartbreaks while kindling the hope of a future full of possibilities.

Cunningham's portrayal of the cancer romance genre is both poignant and heartrending. She delves into the emotional nuances of Cassie and Zhang's relationship as they navigate the tumultuous waters of love, passion, and illness. The author's sensitive exploration of the impact of cancer on their lives adds a layer of depth to the story, creating a sense of authenticity that resonates with readers.

The tragic romance aspect of the novel amplifies the emotional intensity. The impending shadow of mortality casts a bittersweet hue over Cassie and Zhang's love story, infusing every moment they share with a poignant urgency. Cunningham skillfully captures the complex emotions that come with facing a terminal illness, allowing readers to connect deeply with the characters' struggles and aspirations.

"Fated to Love You" tugs at the heartstrings as it delves into themes of love, sacrifice, and the profound impact of fleeting moments. Cunningham's portrayal of Cassie and Zhang's relationship is heartfelt and genuine, reminding readers of the unpredictable beauty that can arise when two souls are brought together by fate. I don’t usually write reviews around young romance, but this book left such an impression I had to say something. Fated to Love You is part coming-of-age, part slow-burn romance, and part survival thriller — all wrapped in a sharp, heartfelt voice that feels completely authentic.

We follow Cassandra Steel, a brainy and socially awkward science major who’s more comfortable dissecting cow eyeballs than navigating a dance floor. Her story starts with a gripping prologue that teeters on the edge of life and death (literally), then rewinds to show us how she ended up in that life-altering moment. The pacing is masterfully done — the tension from the opening pages keeps you turning chapters, even when the story dips into more introspective, emotional territory.

Cassandra is a fully fleshed-out character — brilliant, endearing, sometimes painfully self-conscious, but always deeply human. Her chemistry with Xuan (a fellow science student with hidden depths of his own) feels natural, unforced, and quietly electric. Their connection builds slowly through shared labs, awkward conversations, and one unforgettable night at a salsa club that is as swoony as it is emotionally charged. Honestly, the Red Iguana chapter alone deserves a short story of its own.

What I appreciated most was how this book treated its themes with nuance. It’s about more than just falling in love. It’s about choosing to live, to connect, to risk something vulnerable for the chance at something extraordinary. And all of that is filtered through Cassandra’s scientific lens in a way that actually works — her metaphors, her observations, her inner world — they’re clever without ever being show-offy.

Yes, there are romantic tropes here (shy girl meets mysterious guy, opposites attract), but they’re handled with a freshness and emotional intelligence that makes the whole thing feel genuine. It’s as much a story about fate as it is about agency — how sometimes it takes a crisis to shake us loose from the predictable paths we think we’re supposed to follow.

If you like character-driven stories with heart, high emotional stakes, and a smart, introspective narrator you’ll root for, this one is a gem. I came for the science nerd girl in Colombia and stayed for the raw honesty, poetic writing, and unexpected depth.
Highly recommend.

I LOVE THE FACT YOUR COUPLE IS AMERICAN GIRL AND CHINESE/KOREAN MALE. Not enough writers do biracial couples -- Especially not Amreican and Chinese. In fact, it is not heard of. This book is unique because of this and it may be the first I read that covers this nationality of couple in college age. I can tell author did lot of research on Asian culture.

If you love Kpop and Korean drama or Asian drama, you'll love this novel! Fated to Love You by Kayla Cunningham is a breathtaking novel that beautifully portrays the unique blend of Asian and American cultures. This captivating story celebrates diversity and showcases the beauty of love that transcends borders and overcomes cultural differences.

One of the aspects that truly stood out for me was the representation of both Asian and American characters. It is not common to see such well-developed and authentic portrayals of these two cultures coming together in a seamless and meaningful way. Cunningham's careful attention to detail and deep understanding of these cultures shine through her characters, making them relatable, complex, and truly unforgettable. In my opinion, not enough writers do biracial couples --Amreican and Chinese. In fact, it is not heard of. That is sad. But this author's biracial couple is cute and endearing and you can tell the author did lot of research on Asian culture.

I've never quite experienced something like this book.

I enjoyed the idea of intermingling concepts of astrophysics and maths with feelings and love. The science bits actually taught me a few new things which I can always appreciate in a book, while the beautiful yet sad narrative provided excellent food for thought and reflections on the human condition. I believe it's also taught me interesting aspects about Chinese, Latin, and American culture.

Though it's by no means pleasant, I think being confronted with the painful reality (even through a work of fiction) can serve a healthy purpose-- that is learning patience and acceptance, and ultimately, appreciating the present, for it is all we have.

The chosen topics are extremely delicate, which just increased my respect for the author's courage and her sensitive yet passionate way of writing about them. Personally, I found solace following the characters' journey through hardships.

The author's incredible talent for description spans from turning the mundane into something memorable to believably depicting the extraordinary.

The dialogue was either heartfelt, or full of wit (I might just call my next cat Chairman Meow), either way-- full of personality.

Both protagonists were highly likeable, though while I usually tend to prefer the heroine, I found myself drawn to Xuan, the love interest, this time around. I also appreciated the message that 'people can change for the better' conveyed by some secondary characters, like Raylan and Cassie's father.

Of course, one can't assess an author's personality by their writing alone, still, upon finishing this specific story I couldn't help but feel like this author must indeed be a caring and kind person, just like the main cast of characters.

I'm beyond excited to see what a continuation of the series will bring.
