Jewish-American actor, film director, poet, musician and photographer.
He was best known for playing the character of Spock on Star Trek, an American television series that ran for three seasons from 1966 to 1969, in addition to several movie sequels. 🖖
Amazing poetic journey with this iconic actor and humanitarian. Found this book at a library book sale - SIGNED BY NIMOY! Could not believe it! After I finished reading this book gave it to a friend of mine who is a Star Trek fan. Was truly amazed at how good the poems were; happy to have been exposed to this side of him (illogical and very poetic).
Such a beautiful collection -- no less so for its brevity. I certainly did not want it to end! I have to share my favorite lines: "I am not immortal. / Whatever I put off for later / May never be. / Whoever doesn't know now / That I love them / May never know." This man was such a treasure. 🖖
This brief collection of poems detailing love found and lost was something I could connect to in the moment. The poems themselves are rather simplistic, but that does not take away from the message it's sharing. I appreciated the likening of life through the four seasons and the ups and downs that come along with it. Specifically talking about finding your true love, seizing the moment, and remembering to appreciate the moment before it passes as all men are mortal.
Leonard Nimoy was more than an actor. He was a writer and photographer. This book features some very interesting photos but the poems are fairly basic. It is an easy read and a very artistic book but you can tell that Nimoy was still new at poetry. He was finding his voice and putting it on display as all poets need to do. If you’re a fan of his and want to see his artistic talent progressed then start here and check this book out!
The actual rating is probably closer to 3.5 stars. This is a short book of poetry (with photos) that was written by Leonard Nimoy (Spock of Star Trek). I'm a big fan of Star Trek so when I saw this, I decided to grab a copy. It is a quick read that is basically a poem about the love between two people.
'Mr. Spock' again shows his passion for poetry with this "very personal love story". Written in the form of a long epic free verse, the famous actor displays his "vigorous expressions of love...from out of a lifetime of thought and feeling".
This was my first taste of Nimoy's poetry. I'm not usually big on reading these kinds of books, but I rather enjoyed this. It was kind of a journey of the love between two people. It has some of Nimoy's photography mixed in. Quintessential 1970s, in my opinion.
I love Leonard Nimoy as an actor. But this book is a great example of what happens when people who are famous for doing something other than poetry publish a book of poetry in the early 1970s. The poems are vague, abstract, and expressivist without much real substance. The dominant themes are love, interconnectedness, loss, and New Age-y philosophy. Yes, it's a very hippie type book. https://youtu.be/p51POR4Vr78
Isn't there another word for "childlike" that Nimoy could've used besides using "childlike" so much? And what's the deal with "planting seeds to grow" and "snowcapped mountains" anyway? Yes, in nature exists many euphemisms for...blowing the royal load? Then there's something about echos and mirrors too. And the word "myriad" is used once.
Admittedly, I bought this at a used book sale because of the thought of Leonard Nimoy as a poet. It's not fantastic, it often falls into over-sentimentality and dowright schmaltziness, but there is a sweet and endearing quality to it. And hey, at least it's a quick read.
