My daughter is starting to read and picked this out at the library. She is 5 years old and loves Daniel, but she really didn't understand the story here. I thought it was missing too much to make a good level 1 reader. She ended up asking me to read, as She was so wrapped up in trying to figure out what "Thank You Day" and the reason for the tree. The story didn't flow as a reader. And I don't think she will pick it up again, so I just for that took a star away.
Daniel Tiger and his friends have a "Thank You" tree full of thank you cards. Not a whole lot of plot, but a great intro to getting kids thinking about who they are thankful for and why.
Since this is meant to be an early reader, I can forgive the stilted sound of some of the language and just improvise on the fly, making the text flow better as a group read aloud. A decent, but not outstanding, read aloud.
We love Daniel Tiger and his community! I picked out this book for my Grade 1 apprehensive reader (she’s improving so much!). We’re kicking off our month of thankfulness. A couple words tripped her up (i.e. rescue) but that comes along with growing more words to know, to sound out/ ask for help. She loves the characters within the story (Thank you, PBS!)! We loved the illustration!
Edited to add: the edition we used was digital without the recording
Once upon a time in a beautiful place far far away there was a family of tigers, a mommy and a daddy and a baby. It was so much fun. I had so much fun. This story is so fun. The end. 🇹🇯🇹🇬🇹🇹🇹🇰🇸🇷🇹🇬🇹🇴🇹🇿🇸🇷🇸🇿🇸🇿🇹🇼🇹🇳🇹🇿🇹🇿🇹🇯🇹🇲🇹🇳🇹🇭🇰🇳🇺🇦🇺🇾🇺🇾🇺🇸🇻🇺HOPE 4. A sweet story and so was hopes above
Daniel and his friends are writing thank-you notes to various people to put on a thank-you tree, but Daniel is having trouble deciding to whom he will write.
This book takes characters based off of the old Mr Rogers Neighborhood puppets. There is a PBS television show this book is from. This is a level 1 book so the text is basic wording but still tells a story. Several words are repetitive so a beginning reader could learn to read on their own helping encourage their self esteem. The children want to make thank you cards for people who have done various things for them. To let them know they appreciate just the 'little things' but Daniel Tiger can't figure out whom he needs to write his to until a special person does something for him and then he knows. A good book to help teach little ones the importance of letting others know thank you.
A sweet idea for a book, but not sure what young readers will take away from this book. Text is large and illustrations are good size for early readers.
