AKA Michèle Ann Young (Goodreads Author)

An army brat born in England and now living in Canada, Ann grew up loving history, but majored in business, with history on the side. She has a husband and two lovely daughters and a Maltese Terrier called Teaser, who likes to sit on a chair beside the computer while she works.

Her love of the past and the stories in her imagination led her to write her first novel in 2000, a never-see-the-light-of-day-effort, and after having her first book published in 2006, she knew she'd found her niche.

She loves the Georgian era, and within that, the period known as the long Regency. She also adores happy endings.

You will find her books in bookstores in the month of issue, as well as on line at Mills and Boon or E-harlequin.

King George is visiting Scotland, whiskey is being smuggled, plots to end competition are afoot and there is attraction in the air. Logan Gilvey has been sent to negotiate a deal for his family’s whiskey. His young face makes people underestimate him. He has been running whiskey long enough and well enough that he is able to stay a bit ahead of the wily potential customer, Jack. Jack is using Charity to get information from Logan and does not treat her very nicely- bully is not strong enough for his behavior. Logan likes Charity from the beginning and his protective instincts frequently surface. His heart has been broken and he has built strong walls around it.

Charity West is beautiful, proud, courageous and resilient. She is trapped in a “partnership” with Jack as his distraction. Her job is to keep men that deal with Jack distracted while Jack fleeces them and to get information Jack can use against them for his gain. She is ensnared because she was ruined and abandoned by her family long ago. She has plans of her own that do not include jack in her long term future; she just needs to help him with this one last enterprise, if Jack keeps his word. She too has walls built around her heart, but finds Logan is chipping away at them. Charity sees the way her life should have been but tries to keep her heart and mind from straying toward thoughts like that. She starts to have attacks of conscience and tries to warn Logan off.

This is the third in the series and I was not aware of that until I finished and looked up the author. It is a great story with good tension, twists and turns, highs and lows and had me staying up to finish it. Even though I did not like Jack I liked what he brought to the story between Logan and Charity. The secondary characters, Lord Sanford, Growler and the other men that work for Logan are colorful and feisty. Now I am off to get the other books in the series to learn the back stories of the other Gilvry siblings.

I received an advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

So I've just finished reading Falling for the Highland Rogue by Ann Lethbridge , and it's been a very enjoyable book to read.
Again the author has written good characters in Logan and Charity , with this story there was more secrecy from both the characters and that made it more intriguing to read.
There's nothing like reading a Regency novel when there is a duel happening near the end of the story. That was a good suspense to the story and a bit more darkness than the previous book that I've just read by the author, and I liked that.

An okay read. Falling for the Highland Rogue was a sweet, steamy historical romance. Though I didn't love it, I did enjoy reading it.

Charity was a strong heroine. She's been through a lot and has been living a terrible life, but she survives through it all. I don't understand how she first got into the situation, though. It was never fully addressed, how a well born lady could end up working as, basically, a whore. And, while I understood why she acted reserved and cruel in her indifference, it started to annoy me after a while. I know she did it because she had no choice, but I don't get why she didn't try to fight. In everything else, she was a strong character, but she didn't try to change her situation until the very end. So, she wasn't my favorite heroine. But, overall, I was fine with her.

On the other hand, Logan was amazing. He was so sweet and wonderful and just adorable. And, he might be young (21, I believe), but it would be a mistake to underestimate him because of that. He was very clever and knew how to outsmart even the craftiest of criminals. He was perfect. I absolutely adored him.

The romance was sweet and steamy. I thought Charity and Logan were lovely together. Though I did get annoyed a few times, when Charity's stubbornness put a wrench in their relationship. But, I thought they were a sweet couple. And, the chemistry between them was crazy. There were certainly some steamy moments between these two.

The plot was well paced. I was kept interested the entire way through. But, I was never completely hooked. Regardless, I enjoyed the story and I thought the ending was lovely.

Falling for the Highland Rogue was a sweet historical romance. I didn't love it, but I did like it. It was an enjoyable read. If you're looking for a light book to pass the time, then you might want to check this one out.

I enjoyed it for what it was. The premise of the cold, cunning, less-than-honorable Charity falling for the whisky smuggling Logan is very cute. Their romantic pasts mirror each-other nicely, while both being unique from each others. Both betrayed by those they loved and putting up walls so it doesn't happen again. She's an ice queen to anyone who may get close and he gets his thrills through smuggling.

The constant trying to push Logan away by being cold and saying she never cared about him gets old quickly. It's her defence mechanism, but when in a scene she says she betrayed information to her holder and then a page later explains she hadn't it was another lacky it's, like, I'm getting whiplash here. Trying to push him away doesn't work when you explain a few pages later that you were lying. It's cliche. It's inconsistant. With first person narrative you're constantly in the know when it comes to what the characters are feeling. It would have been interesting to try and have her play him like she's supposed to only to find later on she has feeling. But from the get go it's clear that they like eachother. So we don't believe her when she's cold to him. He doesn't believe her. It just gets annoying.

The sequence of events are super linear. The final conflict is not what you would think it'd be. I'm still unsure whether it was satisfying or not, but overall it did feel rushed. Really, the fact that there are things about the story that bugged me just shows I liked it more than I realize.

I liked the historical backdrop. The author has obviously gone to the trouble of being historically authentic. The story has all the elements needed for a good read, a lovable hero in Logan, a suitably bad villain, and a good moving adventurous plot. It falls short of a five star read as some matters are left unresolved. For example who was the force behind Jack, and the matter of his disappearing brother was left in the air. Probably the subject of another book, but it was left floating, somewhat.
Still a good book which I can recommend.

A fun romp, sort of reminds me of Gabaldon, but lighter. Sometimes it’s a bit repetitive and predictable, but I still enjoyed the journey with these two characters.

Ok, so I'm a Romanceland Snob

I've been reading romance for a l-o-n-g time and I have to admit that I have a prejudice against certain publishing houses. You see, when I was a wee baby I started reading what I considered romance books. They were books like Forever Amber, My Cousin Rachel, and Rebecca - not technically romance and none of them had too much of a HEA. I've never considered Mr. DeWinter someone a sane woman would want to spend the rest of her life with. Then one day I stumbled across a whole row of books at the library from an author by the name of Heyer and there was no turning back.

Now, I'm sure it was just coincidence and not some wish-fulfillment but around the time of my search for more book similar to Ms. Heyer's there was an explosion of paperback books. We now call those books traditional regency. I had a particular fondness for Fawcett and Signet books. I found many of my favorite authors among those. It was wonderful! But the best was yet to come because lurking in the wings was The Flame and the Flower. When that book burst onto the scene Romanceland was changed forever. Now, things have changed since then; we've seen many an author come and go. The style of writing has changed. I don't think I could make it through the pages of The Flame and the Flower without cringing now; however, I'm awfully glad it appeared on the scene.

So, where is this going, you ask. I'll tell you. Somewhere in all this joyous book reading I became a snob. For some reason, I never read too many Harlequin books. Don't know why, maybe it was because there was a plethora of Barbara Cartland books sitting right there beside them and I associated the two. Which leads me to Falling for the Highland Rogue, by Ann Lethbridge.

I've never read any of Ms. Lethbridge's books, so I'm new to this series - maybe I should have read the others, but I was able to grasp the plot-line without too much trouble. As I said before, I've read romance a long time, so I'm pretty familiar with the "formula." Right at the beginning, I had to double check to see if I was reading a Harlequin because I was presented with a totally unexpected hero and heroine. The hero, Logan Gilvry, is uncommonly handsome, ultra smart and extremely cagey... and young. That age was one of the things that would later irritate me. He's 21, however he must be some kind of savant because he seems to have almost super-hero abilities to read people and know just what their next move is going to be. Because of these abilities, I had a hard time remembering that he's just a babe in the woods. However, for most of the book he is a wonderful hero, even though through most of it he is manipulating those around him. Maybe he's so worldly wise because he's never had sex. Yep...he's white...ur...pure as the driven snow. He's never ventured into the valley of whankee-woo. Oh sure, he kissed a girl and somehow that kiss damaged him forever and ever - which isn't saying a lot since he's only 21 - not a very long forever.

So, then we have the other side of the coin - our heroine Charity - not so white. In fact, she was at one time employed in a brothel but she was such an awful strumpet she was purchased by a really nasty gangster, our villain, Jack. I have to say that Jack is a really impressive bad guy - there isn't any possibility that this guy is going to show up as a good guy in a later book. He is spine-chillingly creepy. The scenes that take place in the dark underworld that Charity inhabits are wonderfully vivid. There is a great sense of danger and for Charity there is a sense of hopelessness. The money she is squirreling away to get away from her sordid life is poignant, especially because we has the reader know she is never going to be able to leave her dark world behind. At least not in the manner she dreams of.

I would imagine that a number of readers will not find either Charity or Logan to be very likeable. There is a continual dance between these two as they try to outmaneuver each other. In fact, Charity is such a dark character I kept wondering how Ms. Lethbridge was going to rehabilitate her. And, this is where this book lost some of its punch. The first portion of the book was well-developed, with some exciting (even if they were unlikeable) characters. Then, in the last five or so chapters, things started to fall apart and I was face to face with my old Harlequin prejudice... except in this case it wasn't just a prejudice. The ending was weak - people who hated each other suddenly were dancing with the butterflies. There was just a very unsatisfying rush to a happy ending and no good explanation as to Charity's past and Logan turned from a super-know-it-all to a jump-to-the-wrong-conclusion guy. Bottom-line, I thought the first part of the book was a well-developed and exciting book. It just didn't hold up so well in the last part.

Our Review

Wow ! What a great story.A page turner from beginning to end full of love, adventure, mystery and attempted murder. This is a first time read for me by this author and I really enjoyed her story and her style of writing and will definitely look into her other novels. The cover of this book deserves thumbs up just love it it's awesome.

Really love the Gilvy family characters .There a bunch of crafty hot highlanders with a possessive and loving side to each and everyone of them and treat there women like gold. Can I have one please ? (LOL)I really enjoy the two main characters of this story Charity and Logan.Charity took a bit of warming up to as she ran hot and cold but, Logan I fell for the Hunky Highlander from the get go.I just love reading about those Highlanders so this story was just perfect for me.Call me a Highlander junkie if you will.

I always try and pick a favorite character to rave about when I read a story and my pick would have to be Logan. He was a smart crafty kind hearted man who never judged people or put people down due to there circumstances. He either liked you or he didn't. I love it when a man goes after want he wants knowing his is going to be and up hill battle. But, what do you expect when two strong personalities come together.Neither wants to give an inch. The chemistry between Logan and Charity was great the two just needed to be near each other and the fire began and the flames roared to life especially for Logan..They made the perfect match but, as always love is never easy. People with money power stand between this couple. There whole courtship is surrounded by danger and deceit.

I did enjoy Charity character even though she ran hot and cold.I do understand why she did some of the things she did and why. But, there were times that I really hated her for what she was doing to Logan. She had that man tied up in knots more times that not and kept breaking his heart.Charity was a strong women left alone in the world to fend for herself when she disgraced herself and her family threw her out.She became hard and driven to do what she must do to survive which I applaud her for but, in doing so she was mixed up in a plot with a very dangerous man .Her life was in jeopardy more times that not and for Logan as well.

This was an awesome read so much always going on.What should have been a business deal that would be cut and dry turned out to be a dangerous game of cat and mouse. You never knew who to trust you always had to out smart or out whit your opponent. Danger lurked at every turn. Then combine that with falling in love for someone that may or not be good for you is another contender. Charity and Logan would make and awesome couple but, watching a relationship developed between these two you had some serious doubts if it would ever last to the bitter end.Logan fell head over heels.Charity on the other hand ran hot cold and secretive, crafty and unable to read if you could trust her motives or not . But, you never doubted that she had strong feelings for Logan even when she was constantly pushing him away. It broke my heart some of it was to prevent him from being in danger but, the other side of the coin it was that she just thought she was undeserving and not good enough for the love that Logan bore for her.

A recommended read to all. Enjoyable fast and intriguing read to keep you turning the pages.Looking forward to other books to read in this series and also other novels from this author as well.

Logan Gilvry is a whiskey runner who lives on the edge of danger, but his life is going to get even more complicated. He sees Lady Charity West in a gaming hell. She is beautiful beyond compare but her eyes tell of unimaginable pain. She is there with Jack O'Banyon, a very dangerous and treacherous man who delights in inflicting pain. She works for Jack. He wants information from Logan Gilvry. Charity is his spy. She may be disgraced and in danger, but she doesn't want to hurt Logan. He wants the lady. Will his desire harm both him and his family? Ann Lethbridge has done it again. This next story in the Gilvrys of Dunross is a wonderful book. It is filled with love, suspense and second chances. Logan is a commanding character. He is powerful, compelling and above all has a good heart. Charity is his equal. Her painful past drives her actions, but the desire for love is still there. The story pulls you in and keeps you enthralled. The other characters add to the suspense. The plot twists keep you off balance. You don't know who to trust. I love this book! It's going on my keeper shelf along with the other books in this set.

Falling for the Highland Rogue is book three in The Gilvrys of Dunress series. It's the story of the handsome Logan Gilvry who travels to Edinburgh to sell his family's whiskey. He meets up with the ice cold Charity West. He sees beyond her icicle nature to the hurt and sadness underneath her frozen exterior.

If the reader is unfamiliar with the Gilvry series, they can enjoy this story separate from the series. The book focuses nicely on Logan and Charity with brief glimpses at the other brothers. It doesn't give too much away from the previous stories either, so readers can go to the beginning and enjoy new tales. The steamy level has a couple scenes in the second half of the book. The minor characters also hold interesting personalities, but the author only shares glimpses. I wouldn't mind hearing more of Sanford's or Growler's story.

Time Period: Regency, 1822

Nice enough read. If it hadn't been part of a 3-book set, I might not have read it. I almost didn't finish it, but it did finally catch my attention. Nor am I sure I can explain why I couldn't get into it... A lot of the elements are things I have liked in the past-- the sadder but wiser heroine, the gallant Scottish hero-- Maybe it was the selection of scenes. There was a lot of stuff with King George IV visiting Edinburgh (whoopdedoo) and a lot of scenes with the bad guy... Not really my cup o tea.

I really enjoyed this story! Loved the bad girl heroine with a very dubious past. I'm also a sucker for "younger brother determined to prove themselves" heroes. Logan was just ::sigh:: dreamy. The story did begin to lose a little traction for me in the final chapters, but liked that the heroine didn't morph into a pod person to get to the happy ending.

The only reason it gets a star is because of Logan. The book starts off with Charity being a doxy. It gives no explanation as to why she's working for Jack or was previously in a brothel or why her father tossed her out. But nothing about her endears. Logan makes multiple attempts to be nice to her even so far as introducing his family to her. He's kind and respectable to her, treats her with respect, but even while she's having dinner with his family she's scheming to get information, right after a passionate encounter, she's scheming. She just doesn't give up. She's relentless in serving herself and is selfish. Any other guy would have tossed her for the blatant manipulation.
I didn't like the heroine at all. There was nothing to redeem her, sorry.
