Bonnie Vanak fell in love with romance novels during childhood. While cleaning a hall closet, she discovered her mother’s cache of paperbacks and started reading. Thus began a passion for romance and a lifelong dislike for housework.

After years of newspaper reporting, Bonnie became a writer for a major international charity. She travels to destitute countries such as Haiti to write about famine, disease and other issues affecting the poor. When the emotional strains of her job demanded a diversion, she turned to her childhood dream of writing romance novels.

She lives in Florida with her husband Frank and two dogs, where she happily writes books amid an ever-growing collection of dust bunnies.

Since Goodreads doesn't have the back blurb summary of the book, here it is:

"Warrior of the Wind: The map to the treasure-filled tomb that would ransom Lady Katherine's father was in the possession of a half-English "Khasmin" - a desert warrior renowned for tiger-like ferocity. Long ago, a tiger had scarred Katherine and taught her a lesson: Protect yourself from such powerful creatures, no matter how beautiful. The veil she wore would not be enough.

Seeker of Her Heart: Her foe was truly dangerous. His amber eyes were keener than his sword, his kisses too. They stripped away Katherine's defenses and made her forget her duties, her promises - why she'd hidden so much from his view. Then the warrior took Katherine where she wished to go. In the depths of his ancestor's tomb he made sweet love to her and she was his... and that very soon he would uncover everything she tried to hide."

My thoughts on this book:

The Tiger and the Tomb was an interesting read because it was full of adventure in exotic Egypt in the late 1890's. The heroine, Katherine, is a half-English, half-Egyptian young woman who was promised to Nazim, a man she had never met. Her father gets into trouble with some shady characters and she is forced to steal a map from a man she knows as Ramses. She meets Ramses (who is also known as Nazim, her promised husband) and they have an instant attraction to each other but Katherine still manages to steal the map from him. Ramses is upset and vows to track down the mystery lady who stole from him.

They meet again in the desert when she is sent by the bad guys to look for the tomb, otherwise her father will be killed. Ramses was in the desert meditating about vows for his future marriage to the English bride he doesn’t want when he comes up on her. Ramses is hurt by the men guarding Katherine, then they become closer as she nurses him back to health. Katherine, who hides behind a veil because she is self-conscious of the scar on her face that she got from a tiger when she was a kid, tells Ramses her name is Kalila so he doesn’t realize at first that the woman he has been intrigued with is actually his promised bride.

Most of the premise of the story is Katherine looking for the forbidden tomb filled with gold to save her father’s life, while Ramses is a warrior who has vowed to protect the tomb so he is trying to keep her away from the gold and figure out who is behind the search for the tomb. Ramses and Katherine/Kalila have an intense attraction to each other which complicates the issue as does both of them concealing their identities. I could see why Ramses kept his silence, but I will admit that Katherine’s refusal to trust Ramses with the truth about the man threatening her father was pretty frustrating because it went on for way too long. Other than that issue, I enjoyed the story because it was full of adventure and treasure hunting sort of like Indiana Jones. The romance was nice, Katherine and Ramses had great chemistry together as they fell in love. I liked The Falcon and the Dove a little better than this one but both books are good.

If you are looking for historical romances with an exotic setting and adventure, I would recommend both this book and its predecessor about Ramses/Nazim’s friend, The Falcon and the Dove.

I do not like the cover. Where's Katherine's scar? Where's Ramses' chest hair and beard?

Katherine is betrothed to a desert warrior. Unbeknownst to her, he becomes her protector. I really liked Ramses. He was the perfect hero.

Katherine was harder to like. Her father and cat's lives were threatened by an evil treasure hunter. She was forced to steal the map to a gold mine from her fiance and give up the location. Her refusal to tell Ramses the truth about her situation was frustrating and stupid.

Although I like some sex in my romance books these scenes just went on and on and on.

Liked the tomb raiding aspect, but feel the defeat of the bad guys was too quick.

The book's boring till the 200th page but I really loved the last 56 pages.

I especially love two scenes in the book. One is when the hero stands by his woman going against Jabari (the Sheikh) who is the Sheikh. She actually steals a cat pendant from their ancestor's tomb(It's safe guarded by the tribe) and the Sheikh finds out and is furious with the heroine and orders the hero to teach her a lesson.

Here's a little sneak peak :-

Show her what we do to tomb robbers." The sheikh's command filled her with terror.

Katherine backed away. She had seen the gentle Ramses, the lover who lavished tender kisses on her. The passionate Ramses whose teeth nipped her neck when they coupled like wildcats. Even the vengeful Ramses who cornered her in the Cairo alley.

Ramses stepped a few feet away from the circle and withdrew his scimitar. In a series of graceful moves, he twirled it into the air. Her frightened eyes followed every motion.

Ramses turned suddenly. He plucked a fig from the table and tossed it into the air. The blade descended with lightning speed, splitting the fruit into two.

"That is what we do to tomb robbers," Jabari remarked with satisfaction.

"No, Jabari," he said quietly, sheathing his blade. "This is what I will do to the one who threatens my beloved Katherine and forced her to commit this atrocious act of theft."

Now if that's not love I don't know what is!!

And the second is Epic scene of this book....the villain had the heroine buried alive inside a coffin on a mummy!!!

Here's an excerpt.

Katherine struggled to free herself, but they laid her in the coffin. She felt the mummy lying beneath her. Terror iced hysterics in her throat.

They were going to bury her alive with Rastau, Ramses' ancestor.

"No," she cried in a muffled voice through the choking gag. "Please, please don't do this!"

Scraping noises sounded as the lid descended toward her in a terrifying rush. The last pencil-thin beam of light faded as they adjusted the lid over the sarcophagus.
She was sealed in.

The musty smell of death and decay enveloped her. Katherine moaned. Tears trickled from her eyes. Her hands groped the coffin's smooth stone sides, then pressed against the heavy lid. She remembered the little girl's warning back in Cairo.

"Those who enter the tomb to seek its treasures will die." Now she would pay the ultimate price for her thievery.

So I give four stars because the first scene touched my heart and second scene scared the crap out of me.The book is boring otherwise.

I am so excited to read their daughter's and Tarik's book.

This book was a fun story. Ramses is one sexy, hunky, dominate male. My only complaint is about the heroine, Katherine. She drove me nuts because she would NOT tell Ramses the truth. I love the way he informs her...she is his betrothed and they will be married.

Not my cup of tea, but an ok read. If you do not like romance and have to read something for a challenge, this one at least had a good background story.
