The Wingman books were originally published in their Men's Adventure category beginning in the '80s. They're consistent (and perhaps formulaic) in theme and content, and were among the best of the many such series that proliferated then. It's a love-it or hate-it series... the name of the genre doesn't lie. (But how can you not like a setting in which they rename St. Louis Football City and play nonstop?) Hawk Hunter has preserved civilization and American society several times by the time this volume opens, but when Nazis take over the Panama Canal he has to take to the air once again. The aerial battles are exciting (if improbable), as are the pilots and their crafts... all fun!
